Don and Marlena became engaged on May 1, 1978 at the Gatehouse where she lived, and they enjoyed a pitcher of martinis to celebrate. The day before the wedding, a lingerie shower was held at the Horton home. Attendees to this special event included Marlena and Alice, Donna, Margo, Tom, Mike, Don and Amelia Craig.
The couple received a landslide of gifts, enough to virtually fill Don's apartment. The morning before the wedding, Don and Marlena were together at his apartment, with some of their clothing suggestively tossed around. Don proved himself a liberated, secure man; he cleaned up the place that day, vacuuming while wearing an apron.
The morning of the wedding, Marlena prepared at the Gatehouse. She had her hair up in rollers, then had to get a blow dryer while in the bride's room at the church to finish her beautification.
The wedding almost didn't take place. Marlena's car wouldn't start, so she had to take a taxi to get to the church. The taxi driver took her to the wrong church, but she finally arrived at the right place.
The Ceremony: While traditional organ music played, Marlena's father escorted her down the aisle. Attendees at the wedding included Maggie, Bill, Julie, Tom and Alice, Linda and Bob Patterson, Mike and Margo Horton, Chris Kositchek and his girlfriend Mary, Dr. Neil Curtis and Amelia Craig. Emotional Alice and Julie shared a large handkerchief. There were flashbacks to Mickey and Maggie's wedding and to Linda and Bob's nuptials. Doug sang "The Wedding Song" which was originally recorded by Captain and Tenille to open the ceremony.
Reception: The reception was held at Doug's Place. Everyone enjoyed a glass of champagne with their cake and Doug took pictures. Don had a garter in his pocket. After the reception, Julie and Doug &endash;who had caught the garter &endash; shared a bottle of champagne.
