Yahoo! Chat with Alison Sweeney (Sami)
March 25, 1999

Alison: Hi everybody! I'm so glad you could come chat with me today.

alison772 asks: Alison - your performance in the episode that aired today was heartwrenching when Sami was telling Will goodbye. Since you aren't a mother in real life what do you draw on to identify with those emotions?
Alison: To be honest, the twins I work with who play Will -- Shawn and Taylor are their names -- they are so sweet and wonderful little boys that I just work with them. They draw out the emotion. They make me feel what it must be like to love a little boy that much.
Alison: And thank you!
Alison: After that scene, the twin, Shawn, who was in the scene, was really upset because he knows we laugh and joke, but they don't fully understand that crying is just pretend, so he was really scared that I was really upset and being taken away, so I had to go give him a hug.
Alison: And then he was mad at me for pretending.

cofdrocks asks: Hi Ali! Will Sally Kirkland get a long-term contract? I think she's great and she's said in interviews how much she loves being on DAYS and working with all of you!
Alison: I honestly don't know what their plan is for hat character. She is fun to work with, and there's a lot we could do with her I think, but I don't know what they have in mind.

LS31SW asks: I've really enjoyed your work with Austin, how soon will Sami and Austin be getting together as a family?
Alison: We don't know for sure that that's what's in the future, but there will definitely be some time Sami spends in jail

JustinsChick99 asks: Hey, I just wanted to know what its like being known as a trouble making girl on the show?
Alison: I love my character. It is so fun playing a villain. It's always something new and exciting and different that I get to.

emerald48 asks: Are you close to anyone in particular on DOOL?? If so who or whom?
Alison: Bryan and I have been working together for years, and we are very close. Also Jensen, who plays my twin brother -- Jensen and I are very close as well. And everyone on the cast is pretty close. We have fun.

happy_girl_222 asks: Do you think that Sami is a redemable character?
Alison: I think Sami has a lot of redeeming qualities, especially when it comes to the true love she has for her son
Alison: But she is never going to change when it comes to actively going after what she wants.

JAMES_BONDPA asks: Where do you want to see happened with Sami and what director is she heading in as of being mootherhood, love, how she acts with family like Carrie, and her schemes? Are the schemes over? What will happen to her I am real concerned you might be leaving and I want Carrie to go with Mike no matter what? What is your take on other chacter developments besides your own?
Alison: That question I just answered kind of answers that :)

shemarmoorefan asks: what was going thru your mind everytime you won at the soap opera awards?
Alison: I can't believe it!
Alison: It's such an honor and a thrill for me. I love my character, I love playing a villain, and I feel so honored by support of my character and how much they love to hate Sami
Alison: It's a thrill and a surprise. I certainly don't expect it. It's so fun and thrilling to be nominated by the editors of such a great magazine, and on top of that to win, to know that the fans put the effort into voting, is thrilling

espy_66 asks: Do you feel awful after you've "acted evil" all day? Does it affect your real life?
Alison: That was the first thing I learned how to control, to not let it affect me, to let my work stay at the studio. I have fun playing a villain, and sometimes I feel like it gets out all my evil thoughts, so I don't even worry about it
Alison: I just try to not be very melodramatic on private time. I really go out of my way to not be dramatic and soap opera like. I spend so much time doing that at work, I find I'm much more calm and even-tempered at home as a result
Alison: So I go out of my way to make sure I keep the two separate

robinhood_16020 asks: What is your most favorite story line you have done as Sami?
Alison: Hmm... that's hard! My favorite storyline of Sami being a villain was the New Year's Eve when she set the clocks back and staged this whole situation where she was dragging Lucas and Carrie into bed together and Austin caught them
Alison: That was the most fun kind of evil thing I did, to be in the background with a celphone
Alison: My scenes with Deidre and Jensen recently, in terms of being challenging, were great. I really enjoy working with them - they really push me as an actress.

GoddessofEvercrest asks: Are you planning to do any movies, or any other acting that doesn't involve days?
Alison: They keep me pretty busy at Days.
Alison: I certainly want to try everything - I don't want to limit myself.

SLIM_SHADY_GIRL_4_U asks: WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES?
Alison: Knowing that my character isn't boring, she's really fun
Alison: And there's always something different for me to do. It's not the same thing over and over - it's always something different and fun. I'm constantly being challenged by the writers.

Krystal_25 asks: CAN U ALSO TELL ME WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK WITH AUSTIN PECK????HE IS SO FINE!!!!
Alison: He is a handsome guy, and he's quite a personality too. He's a total jokester. It's always funny to work with him because he's always making jokes and having a good time and laughing. We have a lot of fun together.

Hollykaye0 asks: Did you personally, really think that Sami Brady could outwit the mob??
Alison: I think Sami doesn't give up, and in her world she's just not going to let anybody get the better of her
Alison: Not necessarily when it comes to the mob, her beating the mob, but she's going to do anything she can to protect her son
Alison: She doesn't care if it's risky, if that's what her goal is.

terraschae asks: Is it hard for people to understand that you are not sami, and your just playing a part?
Alison: Sometimes it is. It's very funny -- my friends tell me that when they tell people they're friends of mine often they refuse to believe I'm a nice person
Alison: When they meet me, they say, you can't be evil, you're such a nice girl. I have fun playing against who I really am

Krystal_25 asks: HI ALLISON I JUST LOVE U AS SAMI BRADY!!!CAN U MAYBE GIVE US A LITTLE CLUE AS TO WHAT'S TO BECOME OF SAMI ON DEATH ROW!!!!
Alison: I wish I knew! I'm in the dark as much as you are.

pottym asks: Allison, are you happy with the attitude change or did you perfer the nastey sami?
Alison: I like the way Sami learns from her mistakes. I don't think Sami will ever completely become some goody two shoes, but at the same time I think it's great she's learned some control over her actions and she's not completely self-centered
Alison: Now there's conflict and a little different angle as to why she continues to do what she does. So you never know.

ANGELN90 asks: ARE YOU ASOAP FAN YOURSELF? IF SO WHAT DO YOU WATCH?
Alison: I'm usually working during the day, but I try to catch Another World. That's a great show.

skewbs asks: Allison (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) , where did you get that awsome dress that you wore at the awards show? it was sooooooo fabulous.
Alison: Well, thank you very much! Richard Bloore, the costume designer for Days, picked it out for me. I loved it too.

mouse818 asks: Was it pretty hard to get ready for today's episode? It was a tear jerker!
Alison: Thank you for saying that. It was difficult in the moment, but I have such great coworkers who help me get in the scene, and the dialog and the way it's written is very inspiring
Alison: It all flows together, the way it's written

PyschoChick35 asks: Do you ever start blushing working with such a babe as Jensen Ackles??
Alison: Well, he's such a great guy that he's so exciting to work with. I really enjoy it.
Alison: It's so much fun playing a twin because we have a great time finishing each other's thoughts and stuff. We have a lot of fun playing the twin role.
Alison: He is kind of a brother, but I don't know that any woman can help being in love with him a little bit. He's so charming

snlfan_14 asks: Do u plan to go on a talk show anytime soon??
Alison: I don't know. I don't think so.

mindalia asks: Do you see yourself moving on in your career in the future to other projects then Days?
Alison: Eventually I plan to try film and prime time, but I love my job right now and I'm so happy with my character and it's so exciting and interesting that I'm still constantly enjoying my work.
Alison: I certainly wouldn't want to give it up now.

WNNZelda asks: Are you going to be at the Days Fan Club luncheon in June?
Alison: I absolutely am!
Alison: It's June 5 at the Universal City Hilton

cofdrocks asks: Ali, you're such a good actress! I know you were a DAYS fan prior to 1993 when you started, so what was your favorite storylien from the past? Mine, and mostly everyone else's on the internet, is the Cruise of Deception. Did you enjoy it too?
Alison: Actually, I really loved the Cruise of Deception and Jack and Jennifer on the island

one_with_no_name asks: WHEN YOU GO OUT IN PUBLIC DO PEOPLE CALL YOU BY YOUR REAL NAME OR SAMI?
Alison: Combination of both
Alison: Usually I get Sami. Sometimes it's confusing when people call me Alison or Ali and I think they know me, and they know me from the show. It's funny.

Darkrose_1 asks: AREN'T U GONNA TALK TO US ABOUT YOUR RECENT ENGAGMENT?? WE'RE SOO EXCITED AND HAPPY FOR U
Alison: Thank you! I am very excited as well. My fiancÈ and I are thrilled and having so much fun doing all the preparations for a wedding. It's very exciting and different in real life from the show
Alison: It's different when it's your own.
Alison: We're getting married next summer.

cherise_renee asks: do you play sports? i saw you were in a basketball tournament?
Alison: I love playing sports
Alison: I really enjoy basketball, volleyball - anything that is fun and that I can pick up, that I don't do all the time.

brandon_can asks: Are you disappointed that you weren't nominated for an emmy?
Alison: To be honest, yes, but I'm still thrilled to have a great job. You move on.

mandalynn002 asks: YOU AND (LUCAS)ARE SUCH GOO FRIENDS I HEAR, DO YOU BOTH ENJOY PLAYING AGAINST EACH OTHER ON SCREEN?
Alison: Absolutely. He is thrilling to work with. Of course, I love everyone I work with.

johnm_49738 asks: Would you ever consider possibly playing a nice person?
Alison: I love playing a villain, but I would be happy to play a nice person too. I enjoy any character who has depth and personality. As long as they're interesting, it's fun for me whether they're nice or evil.

CW_39 asks: Will Sami ever get off of death row?
Alison: Who knows?

Hidden____Empire asks: ALISON I THINK ITS GREAT THAT YOU GOT BEST VILLINEST OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR , BUT HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS YEARS SOAP AWARDS
Alison: I really enjoyed winning this year too! Thank you very much.

one_with_no_name asks: WHAT'S THE MOST EMBARRISING THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED ON THE SET?
Alison: Bryan Datillo is hysterical. He always plays April Fool's pranks on everybody. He always does embarrassing things like putting gel in my telephone and vaseline on my doorknob and stuff. It's really funny

AKerchner asks: What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
Alison: I love English and History

Niikkie asks: How far ahead do you get your script to see what is happening?
Alison: We get for when we film it.

MissHurley asks: Have you enjyed watching the twins who play Will growing up?
Alison: I love watching those two little boys - I feel like they're my own, like I'm their aunt or something. It's been fun watching them grow. They're the same kids hired when they were 6 weeks old, and it's been so fun to watch them grown and change, and watch the development of personalities. They're so charming and loveable - I love those little boys.

Justice474 asks: I love your hair on Days It always looks perfect. Do you think of the different ways to fix it or does the hair dresser do that?
Alison: A combination of both. We come up with ideas and have fun trying different things. Sometimes we see things in magazines or movies we want to try.

SMOOTHICYHOT asks: What direction do you see Sami heading in? What are some of the things you want to see and don't what to see happen?
Alison: I definitely don't want Sami to get settle down with Austin like in a comfortable family situation -- she's always more interesting when she has something she wants that she can't have.
Alison: I love playing her adventurous side, her ambition. I would love to make sure they keep it interesting, keep her active, working towards a goal, whatever it might be.

mick013 asks: Does working with the twins make you want to have your own children sooner?
Alison: Working with Shawn and Taylor has definitely encouraged me to have children, but not necessarily sooner. I want to have kids one day, but I'm learning how much work goes into it and that I'm not prepared to deal with it at this point in my life.

dragon54b asks: What time in the morning does your day start for Days?
Alison: Anywhere between 630 and 8:30, usually. We have early calls so we can be prepared for the show to start taping at 9.

alison772 asks: Alison, someone on one of the bulletin boards said they read once that you had dated Bryan Datillo and/or Austin Peck in real life a few years ago. Any truth to that rumor?
Alison: I have never dated Austin -- we're friends -- and I've never dated Bryan. We've gone out to hang out and have fun, but we've never been romantically involved.

LadyLibra_26 asks: Allison, I am just wandering what are you like off camera. Are there any things that Sami and you actually have in common??
Alison: I have to say, I admire Sami's tenacity, and I admire her aggressive personality, that she goes after what she wants.
Alison: I find that when it comes to my work ethic and things I really want in terms of my career, I pursue it actively. I don't just wait for life to pass me by. I don't feel the world owes me something. So to a certain extent we're similar in that way.

crazymomof3kids asks: how is the cast handling the death of "shawn bradys" real daughter?
Alison: Everyone of course is very upset by the incident and how painful it must be for him. We're trying to be very supportive of such a tragic incident
Alison: In that way Days is much like a family - we try to unite and help each other through difficult times in people's lives

KristinaOwen asks: Alison, I think your beautiful. Any beauty tips?
Alison: Thank you very much! That's nice of you to say
Alison: I just really have a routine - I wear very little makeup privately because I wear so much on the set, and because I often see women who have too much makeup on, and in one on one situations it's very noticeable. Ss little as you can get away with is the right amount.
Alison: I really love the natural look anyway when it comes to hair and makeup. Simplicity is beauty.

DaYsFaN_15 asks: Will we get to see some close Sami/Marlena scenes soon?
Alison: Absolutely. I think this is when Sami's family is going to unite around her and come to support her. She does have some wonderful scenes coming up with Marlena, but definitely not enough. I love working with Deidre!

Hollykaye0 asks: Have you ever thought about cutting your hair and going with the trendy short look?
Alison: I cut my hair about a year ago, and that was so traumatic for me!
Alison: It was around my shoulders and that was the shortest I've ever had it.
Alison: (Dave says hi, everyone!)
Alison: So that's about as much as I'm ever willing to cut off. Speaking of Dave, he likes it long and I like it long, so it's a good excuse to keep it long.

Bubba_m46 asks: Do ya get to keep some of the outfits your wear on the show?
Alison: They do let me borrow them for events and talk shows, but I don't keep them myself.

TeacherPatty asks: is there person that has left the show that you wish would come back?
Alison: I have to say - please don't misunderstand, I love working with Josh, but I miss Wayne Northrup. So if we could have three Romans on the show...

smithad1976 asks: DO YA LIKE GOING TO DANCE CLUBS IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Alison: I don't like the hip hop or the rock clubs that play music too loud, but I really love the '40s swing dance thing happening in L.A.
Alison: I've been in it for a while, then Swingers came out and it got really crowded. Now it's calming down, and being the people who come there for the dancing. I like it a lot.

PALAMINO_DREAMS asks: WILL YOU AND CARRIE EVER PATCH THINGS UP ALISON?
Alison: Well, considering Carrie's behavior right now, probably not
Alison: Carrie continues to blame Sami for all the bad things that happened, and Sami stopped causing those problems a long time ago.

HES_THE_GREATEST_DANCER asks: What was the most influential moment of your career?
Alison: I guess getting this job!
Alison: I've been a professional actress since I was 4, doing commercials, working consistently, but I didn't have a job like this till Days - consistent, long job
Alison: I've learned so much working at Days with people like Deidre, who have been so instrumental in teaching me about acting, the industry, about being a professional
Alison: I think it's been the most informative and educational part of my whole life.

Hollykaye0 asks: Has work gotten easier now that you pretty much repeat the same lines each day?
Alison: Well, they have variations on how they phrase it... you still have to memorize things
Alison: It's that much harder to make it interesting for the audience when it's similar dialog.

PatienceGrasshopper asks: Ever thought about going Brunette? That disguise looked great!
Alison: Well, thank you very much! No, I've never thought about it before that. I suppose it would be fun to throw a wig on sometimes, but I would never want to risk my natural hair color by dying it brunette.

smithad1976 asks: Is it hard to handle popularity at such a young age? And do you ever wish the people would just leave you alone?
Alison: I only find it difficult when people are rude
Alison: Mostly fans are very nice and excited to meet me and want to talk about the show or say they enjoy it, and they go about their business
Alison: Occasionally you come across people who are intrusive and rude, especially to my fiance. They'll march up like they have the right to be rude to him, and occasionally that can be embarrassing for me.
Alison: Most of it doesn't bother me at all, but when people are rude I have a hard time with that.

cdaisy_99 asks: I like Austin alot but just don't feel he has chemistry with Sami. But It puzzled me as to why SSM fails to see the chemistry between you and Bryan!!!
Alison: I love working with Bryan and with Austin. I enjoy whatever twists and turns Sally puts into the mix. Who knows what she has in mind? I think she likes getting the audience in one spot and then reversing it... Who knows what the ultimate goal is?

Hollykaye0 asks: You looked really awesome at the Soap Opera Digest awards. Do you love getting dressed for those events?
Alison: I do. I love getting dressed up and having a good time.
Alison: But I also do it a lot at work. It's more fun getting dressed for events like that. At work you have to be in a dress for 3 weeks straight and it's sometimes hard to match the same hair
Alison: It is nice to have a nice evening of getting dressed up and have it end there.

GoddessofEvercrest asks: Where are you orginally from?
Alison: I'm originally from L.A. Born and raised!

Hollykaye0 asks: What do you think about the whole John Aniston issue? Do you want him back permanently?
Alison: I think John Aniston is an excellent cast member, and I would love to have him back on the show. He's a mainstay on Days, such a great villain to have around.

anthtoeknee asks: what do you think is the most far fetched storyline evver on Days?
Alison: You mean besides the Devil possession?

jrosenburg asks: Are you going to have a big wedding or a smaller one?
Alison: I don't know. I guess not too small, not too big. Picture Father of the Bride
Alison: My dad really is like Steve Martin, so I've been watching the movie, taking lessons

Blond978 asks: Do you have any Pets
Alison: We have two desert tortoises named Toby and Sebastian

tracylg asks: who are some of your biggest influences on days?
Alison: Absolutely Deidre. Definitely.

cdaisy_99 asks: I always see a certain necklace on you is that a gift from your boyfriend?
Alison: The heart necklace is a gift from my fiance. He gave it to me for Valentine's Day a year ago.

LadybugWCU asks: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT SUSAN LUCCI?
Alison: I refuse to answer that question! I have no opinion.

Anna_Peanut_33 asks: Was it hard getting in to acting?
Alison: I got the first commercial audition I ever went out on, so I guess that was a good omen
Alison: I've definitely had my weak periods growing up, but I have been very blessed in my career in general

LIMPBIZKET_RULEZ asks: HEY what was your fav. movie whos your fav. band?
Alison: My favorite movie of all time is Life is Beautiful. That has to be the best movie I have ever seen. I think Roberto Benigni is so cute - I love him.
Alison: I really think it should have won best film. Saving Private Ryan and Life is Beautiful probably split the vote. But I also loved Shakespeare in Love.
Alison: Favorite band... I like good old fashioned rock and roll.

HES_THE_GREATEST_DANCER asks: What job would you like to do if you weren`t a highly successful actress?
Alison: I love the industry. I plan to pursue directing, behind the scenes. I'm interested in directing, producing.

angel_1982_16 asks: What is your favorite type of food?
Alison: Wow! I really like Indian food right now. It's very healthy and it's so interesting. I just love it.

sheankbuffalow asks: alison is it hard 4 u 2 go out like to a mall?
Alison: It depends where I am, what time of day. It doesn't bother me when people recognize me, but at malls often times you get -- no offense to teens, but teenyboppers, girls who just chase me around the mall giggling behind their hands
Alison: It's kind of unnerving to have people follow you around the whole mall! I like it and I respect it when people come up, say hi, whatever they want, but younger teens tend to be embarrassed or entertained by following me around, and it makes me nervous.

GLITTER_GAL18 asks: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now??
Alison: Hmm... married... I'm really interested in pursuing a directing career, so I'd like to have made some significant steps towards that. But I would never give up acting - I love it

coolta25th asks: How long does it take to tape one episode
Alison: We do at least one episode a day, oftentimes six episodes in 5 days, or more
Alison: Sitcoms spend 5 days on one half hours how, primetime hours spend 7 to 10 working days on one hour's show, so we really do a lot of work in a day

Hollykaye0 asks: Is Sally Kirkland that eccentric in real life?
Alison: Yes, she's pretty outrageous. She's such a thrill to work with, so funny. She has a little Tracey in her.

Batgirl_Godzilla asks: HEY ALISON...I LOVE DAYS AND I JUST WANTED U TO KNOW THAT MY MOM NAMED ME AFTER UR CHACTER!! I LOVE UR WORK AND KEEP DOING GREAT!!BYE! SAMI,MN
Alison: Thank you! that's such an honor. I'm glad you enjoy the show

gem1873 asks: Is Will really related to someone on the show?
Alison: You mean the character? He's related to me and Lucas. In real life, they're just actors.

SMOOTHICYHOT asks: If you could do any movie what would be the name of it, what kind horror, action, etc.. and what would it be about?
Alison: I love trying different fields of acting, so I'd love to do different kinds. I'd be interested in doing romantic comedies. One of my favorite actresses right now is Meg Ryan.

aliciaL_77 asks: Is it hard getting used to new actors in long established roles? eg. carrie
Alison: Depends on the actor. Josh for example fit right in right away. I very much enjoy working with him, he's an excellent actor. He made himself very at home in the role right away and did an excellent job of fitting in.

diblasi_98 asks: What is you r favorite prime time show?
Alison: Law and Order. I love that show.

crisp1 asks: Do you agree with soap opera digest's claim that you're difficult to work with?
Alison: I know that Soap Opera Digest does not think that I am difficult to work with.
Alison: I have several good friends who work there, and we get along very well. I definitely try not to be difficult to work with in general

Tracee3694 asks: If you could have your choice of a special guest to play a scene on the show with you, who would it be?
Alison: Tom Cruise
Alison: I love that guy!

Flexible_Goat39 asks: What kind of books and any other literature do you like to read?
Alison: I love all sorts of books. I read everything from Shakespeare to trashy romancenovelss. I love literature - my favorite book of all time is Victor Hugo's Les Miserables

Wacky_Waffer asks: Which one of Eileen Davidson's character's did you like? Would you like to see her come back to the show?
Alison: I know Eileen is very excited about going to Y&R, but I miss working with her. She was an excellent actress. As Sami, I got to work with Sister Mary Moira a few times, and it washystericall. She has great comedic timing -- she's very funny

sexyterry_1998 asks: Allison, off camera are you a very head strong independant person?
Alison: Yeah. I like to do things for myself and I stick up for what I believe in, but I also am willing to listen to other opinions and I like to keep an open mind.

xstatix_143 asks: Who is the coolest person you have met so far in the business?
Alison: I met Ron Howard at the EdTV premiere. I think he's the most talented director. I love him!
Alison: Thank you so much for tuning in, everybody! I'm so glad youenjoyy Days
Alison: Keep watching because it's going to get more exciting
Alison: Check out my web site for more events that I'm going to be doing - www.alisonsweeney.com
Alison: I'll definitely be tuning in soon for more chats!
Alison: Bye!
