B&B Casts Ex-Days Hunk as New Rick Forrester

Whoa! CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful has cast Kyle Lowder (ex-Brady Black, Days of our Lives) as the new Rick Forrester. Lowder reported to work on the B&B set last week, and he first airs on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. And happily, he's on contract.

Rick is the son of fashionistas Eric Forrester and Brooke Logan (John McCook, Katherine Kelly Lang). The character has recently been away on business in Europe. Rick returns to L.A. to support his daddy's new fashion label, Forrester Originals.

Soaps Q&A: Louise Sorel (ex-Vivian, Days of our Lives)

In a recent TVGuide.com Soaps poll, It was asked: "Should NBC's Days of our Lives bring back Louise Sorel as Vivian Alamain?"

These were your answer options:

Yes. Junior deceivers like Sami and Chelsea are no match for Salem's wittiest wicked witch.

No. The NBC soap doesn't need another scheming villainess.

Guess what? A whopping 77 percent of respondents voted yes to bringing back Vivian! And here's another interesting tidbit of info for you:

TVGuide recently asked Days' new head writer, Hogan Sheffer, whether he'd ever consider bringing back Viv. "She is [missed]," Sheffer acknowledged to TVGuide.com. "You've just gotta give me some time. Right now, the top priority is trying to get people who are currently on the map into good, strong story. And then I can start thinking about who needs to come back. But she's definitely somebody that I've been thinking about. I get it."

Based on Sheffer's interest and your interest, suds fans,TV Guide rang up Louise Sorel in New York to catch up and ask if she's interested in coming back to Days. Read what Sorel had to say in my fresh, new Soaps Q&A.

Days of our Lives: EJ is Elvis!

Hey, Days of our Lives fans! I usually hate to say I told you so, but today it's my absolute pleasure. On today's Days, British baddie EJ Wells (James Scott) was officially revealed to be Elvis Jr., the bastard child of supervillain Stefano DiMera and trailer-trash crackpot Susan Banks.

There have been many changes to the writing staff in the last several weeks.

Additions to staff:

  • Frederick Wayne Johnson Jr.

  • Anne M. Schoettle, who returned to the "Days" writing staff on September 21, has left the series after three months with the show.
  • Renee Godelia
  • Rick Draughon

With these departues, there are now only 7 remaining writers from James E. Reilly's tenure with the show: Peter Brash, Jeanne Marie Grunwell Ford, Sofia Landon Geier, Susan Kirshenbaum, Bruce Neckels, Jodie Scholz and Michael Slade.

1 vs. 100

Bryan Dattilo (Lucas), Julie Pinson (Billie) and Alison Sweeney (Sami) appear on an upcoming episode of NBC's new game show "1 vs. 100", as part of the 100 mob members that takes on a contestant. Check to see how far the "Days" trio gets in answering questions that get more difficult in each round. "1 vs. 100" airs on NBC at 8PM ET/7PM CT in most markets. The episode was taped on December 8 and will air sometime in the near future.

Casting news

Shayna Rose (Stephanie) has announced that, while recently being taken off contract, she will be staying with "Days of Our Lives" on a recurring basis.

Noah G. Segan debuts as Bonnie's son, Connor Lockhart, on Monday, January 8. No word yet on how long the role will last. Connor was last seen as a young child in 2000 (played by Austin Wolff). Segan was born on October 5, 1983, so Connor will be aged about 15 years or so when Segan takes over.

Bill Hayes (Doug) and wife Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) return to "Days" for the annual hanging of the Horton Christmas ornaments on Tuesday, December 26. It marks their first appearance on the show since February 9. Susan will be doing double duty that week as she also wraps up her month-long stint reprising her role as Joanna Manning on "The Young and the Restless" on Wednesday, December 27.

Ava & Olivia White have been placed on contract, effective this week. The twins, who play Claire Kiriakis, are the youngest-ever actors on contract in the 41-year history of "Days." They were born on June 24, 2005 and turn one-and-a-half years old on Christmas Eve. They debuted in the role on January 27, 2006. The previous youngest contract actors were Paige and Ryanne Kettner, who were signed to contracts as Abigail Deveraux when they turned five years old in 1996. With the departure of Billy Warlock (Frankie) this week, "Days" now has 32 actors on contract.

Annie Burgstede (Willow) has been placed on contract, effective immediately. Burgstede joined the show on a recurring basis on October 3. Days of our Lives: The Old Philip is Back!

The charming and exquisitely handsome Jay Kenneth Johnson is reprising his old part as Philip Kiriakis on Days of our Lives.

The NBC sudser confirms to TVGuide.com that JKJ reports back to work at Days next week. His first airdate is Jan. 12, 2007.

FYI, JKJ left Days in 2002 to try his luck in prime-time TV and films. When Philip recast Kyle Brandt left Days at the end of his three-year contract this fall, many hoped JKJ would return to his signature soap role.

When TV Guide recently interviewed Days head writer Hogan Sheffer, Daniel Coleridge couldn't resist nudging him to bring back JKJ. "Jay will certainly be considered when the time comes [to recast Philip]," Sheffer agreed. "He's a great-looking guy, and everybody loved him on Days."

Days of our Lives: Name Hope's Baby!

As Days of our Lives viewers know, Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso) is pregnant with a baby girl. But who's her Daddy? Hope thinks it's the shady Patrick Lockhart (Brody Hutzler), but we all know the child was sired by Hope's husband, Bo Brady (Peter Reckell). It's only a matter of time before the truth comes out.

Meanwhile, NBC is offering Days fans the chance to select the poor baby's name!

From December 4-17, you can go to this site and pick from a pre-selected list of five girls' names: Bridget, Ciara, Cassidy, Darcy and Rori.

http://www.nbc.com/Days_of_our_Lives/features/hopes_baby/hopes_baby.shtml

The list will then be narrowed down to fans' three top picks. From December 18-31, you can go back to vote again for the final choice. The name of Hope's baby will be revealed on Days in January 2007.

P.S. This isn't the first time Days is letting fans name a soap baby. Most recently, the show's viewers voted online to choose the name of Belle Black Kiriakis's baby girl, Claire.

Veteran Soap-Opera Writer Dead at 82

Longtime TV serial writer Anne Howard Bailey died Friday of congestive heart failure in Rancho Mirage, Calif., per the Los Angeles Times. She was 82.

Back in the '80s, Bailey served as head writer of Santa Barbara, Days of our Lives and General Hospital. In fact, her team of SB scribes won the Daytime Emmy for outstanding drama series writing in 1989.

Also of note, Bailey created NBC's short-lived feminist sudser How to Survive a Marriage in 1974. Funny thing is, Bailey herself never married; she felt living solo was a key ingredient to her success as a writer.

Daytime Emmys Return to Hollywood in 2007

Next year, the Daytime Emmy Awards will once again be held at Oscar's home, the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Calif., CBS has announced.

"As the network with the No. 1 daytime lineup for more than 17 years, we are delighted to have the Daytime Emmy Awards on CBS [in 2007]," CBS Daytime chief Barbara Bloom said in a statement. "We're looking forward to honoring the genre and its contributors, as well as having some fun, as we celebrate a remarkable year for daytime drama."

"Following the huge success and rave reviews of last year's [show], an encore in Hollywood seems specially fitting," said Peter Price, President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. "We're looking forward to CBS's showcasing the best in daytime television programming from the renowned Kodak Theatre."

Back on Friday, April 28, ABC made an admirable effort to produce a fabulous, first-class kudofest, which included moving the Daytime Emmys from New York to Hollywood. Despite this, the 33rd annual ceremony attracted a pitiful 6.09 million total viewers.

Don't forget that 2006 was actually NBC's year to broadcast the Daytime Emmys. The Peacock passed, mostly because Days of our Lives and Passions were snubbed in the nominations as usual. Ultimately, NBC roundly beat ABC in the Nielsen ratings with an episode of Deal or No Deal.

The 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will broadcast live from the Kodak on Friday, June 15, 2007 from 9 to 11 pm/ET on CBS. With daytime soap-opera ratings in decline, it's very hard to draw viewership for a prime-time awards show that's mostly about the afternoon soaps and their stars. Especially when networks keep airing it on a Friday night in warm weather.

Days of our Lives Doctor Checking Out

Days of our Lives confirms that longtime castmember Renee Jones (Dr. Alexandra "Lexie" Carver) is being written off the NBC soap.

When is Lexie leaving the canvas and why, you ask?

"Renee is concentrating on her current storyline and is still taping here at Days," the show's rep told TVGuide.com. "Unfortunately, I do not have any further details to include at this moment."

The residents of Salem now know EJ Wells (James Scott) is a devious DiMera, thanks to Lexie's psychic mama Celeste (Tanya Boyd). Since Lexie is a reformed DiMera, I'm guessing she'll be a casualty of EJ's war on the town.

Since 1993, Lexie's been Salem's go-to lady doc for all medical needs. Lexie had a brief stint as an evildoer &emdash; remember the infamous Vampira gown? &emdash; and she's cheated on her cop husband, Abe Carver (James Reynolds), with lotsa hot guys!

It's not a plot by the new head writer, Hogan Sheffer, to eliminate Marlena. Far from it. Marlena's disappearance "was already plotted when I got here," Sheffer explains to Digest editor Stephanie Sloane in the new issue. "I used it as a way to activate John and Marlena more than anything else." So does that mean we'll see more of the couple? "You tell John and Marlena fans they're going to see so much of them, they're not going to believe it," assures Sheffer. Days of our Lives Casts New Shawn

Farah Fath, who plays Mimi Lockhart Brady, spilled more soap scoopage this week on her official website. Specifically, she named the hottie who will replace outgoing actor Jason Cook as Shawn Douglas Brady.

"I will be meeting up with Brandon Beemer (the new Shawn) and the Days acting coach next week to work on his first few episodes," Fath posted. "We're taping eight episodes the week back from break (and Brandon's first week, period) so we agreed we should go over it before walking out on set that Monday and going 'Hi, I'm Farah,' 'Hi, I'm Brandon,' now let's start crying and screaming at each other."

Beemer debuts as NuShawn on September 28. Check him out: http://www.brandonbeemer.com or imdb.com

By the way, you may recall hearing about that in-the-works reality show for Fath and Kirsten Storms (ex-Belle; now Maxie, General Hospital). It's not gonna happen. "We're taking a permanent break from Lil' Divas," Fath shared. "I've got other goals professionally that I must tend to at this stage in life... like finding new acting jobs."

Salem Shocker! Days of our Lives Axes Austin and Carrie

Yikes! TVGuide.com has learned that Austin Peck and Christie Clark are being let go by NBC's Days of our Lives. I'm hearing that the popular actors, who play star-crossed supercouple Austin Reed and Carrie Brady, will likely be written off the canvas by October or November.

Some industry scuttlebutt blames their firings on budget cuts at Days. However, it's especially important to remember that James E. Reilly's replacement, Hogan Sheffer, has just taken over as head writer and Days is in the midst of a major creative overhaul. When a new top scribe takes the reins of a soap, anything can happen!

"I know as much as anyone else does in this matter," Peck's manager, Michael Bruno, tells TVGuide.com. "I was told by my client, Austin, that he was pulled up to the office and told by a Days producer that he and Miss Clark would be leaving.

"As of this date, neither I nor Austin's agent have received written notification of his departure," Bruno adds. "I can tell you that Austin loves working at Days of our Lives, but also loves the daytime genre. So if it is indeed true, we hope that another show will see Austin's tremendous assets and fanbase and welcome him into their family."

By the way, NBC and Days had no comment for this story.

Days of our Lives: Who is the Gloved One?

TVGuide.com hears that Days planned to bring back Heather Lindell as loon-a-chick heiress Jan Spears. It would make sense if Jan were the Gloved One, since she is a scheming weirdo and bears grudges against Mimi and Sami.

However, the word is that Jan's return may not actually happen because the NBC soap is in the midst of creatively transitioning between outgoing head writer James E. Reilly and the new top scribe, Hogan Sheffer.

Here's the official word for now:

"We are thrilled that the gloved hand has piqued such interest with the viewers!" the Days spokesperson tells TVGuide.com. "All sorts of speculation is flying. Is it Stefano? Is it Tony? Jan is just the latest guess of the week. The fans will have to continue to watch the story unfold... and realize that we are on the verge of our new head writer's vision coming into focus."

Days of our Lives Drops Osama's Ex-Mistress

Kola Boof &emdash; the former mistress of Osama bin Laden &emdash; is no longer writing for Days of our Lives.

"She was hired to write two episodes and that was it," the NBC soap's spokesperson now tells TVGuide.com. "She has written the two and therefore, done."

Days of our Lives Cuts Matthew Ashford... Again

The word is out and, sadly, it comes as no surprise: Days of our Lives viewers will see the last of Matthew Ashford's Jack Devereaux in the early fall.

The writing was on the wall when Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) made it known that she will exit Days at the end of her contract in August. Although Ashford has told TVGuide.com that he'd prefer to see Jack stay on Days without Jennifer, it ain't gonna happen.

With Jennifer out of the picture, the Jack/Jennifer/Frankie love triangle is essentially finished. Recasting Reeves' role has not worked out well in the past, so it's unlikely that you'll see a new Jenn step into the wildly popular soap star's high heels. That means her story will have to be wrapped up.

Although Days and NBC are keeping mum about Ashford's ouster, I think it's quite clear what will happen. Viewers have already watched the noble Frankie (Billy Warlock) searching for a medical miracle that will save Jack's life. Jennifer and her daughter, Abigail (Ashley Benson), were also seen praying for his health like a pair of blonde angels this week.

INs--Elena Lyons appears on DAYS on July 26, 27 and 31 as Steve's wife Delia.

OUTs--DAYS' Matthew Ashford (Jack).

SOW even comments on it with this editorial...

From Editorial Assistant Mala Bhattacharjee: Much like other longtime viewers of DAYS, I'm bummed that both Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) and Matthew Ashford (Jack) are heading out of Salem this year. But does this mean Billy Warlock's (Frankie) DAYS are numbered, as well? I hope not. And I have a simple solution: It's all about Eve. Has anyone seen Charlotte Ross since NYPD BLUE went off the air? This could be the perfect time for the devious Ms. Donovan's return. New watchers think Chelsea is a schemer? Pfft!

Matt's departure is one of SOD's cover stories this week too. Here's their cover and teaser.

Philip immediately demands both women have an abortion, which ignites a serious fight with his pro-life wife...

It's Official! Days of our Lives Swaps Head Writers

Hey, Days fans! Word got out last month that NBC had approached former As the World Turns scribe Hogan Sheffer about replacing James E. Reilly as head writer of Days of our Lives. While the soap world waits for NBC's official confirmation that it's a done deal, Austin Peck - the outspoken hunk who plays Austin Reed - has gone ahead and confirmed the writer swap in his own personal blog!

"If you haven't heard, James Reilly has left the building," Peck wrote in his most recent blog posting. "The new writer starts in August, Hogan Sheffer. Very talented writer, so everyone is excited to see what he's going to do. A lot of changes coming. Oh man, I could go on and on but I will spare you. Short blog, sorry."

We can extrapolate from this that NBC is indeed exercising its option to renew Days. Although the Peacock's last official word was that Days was renewed through March 2007, it's highly doubtful that they'd bother with the behind-the-scenes drama of a writer swap if the soap wasn't continuing beyond that.

By the way, Stephen Nichols - who recently returned to Days as Steve "Patch" Johnson - also did some tattling in his own personal blog. "[Executive producer] Ken Corday invited all cast and crew to have lunch and hear the good news about the show being renewed and about the new head writer - five-time Emmy winner, Hogan Sheffer," Nichols wrote. "Our old friend Beth Millstein will be acting as interim head writer and will stay on staff when Sheffer arrives in July. We are hopeful that a new energy and commitment will blossom at DOOL."

Days of our Lives Hires Osama bin Laden's Ex-Mistress

TVGuide.com has learned that Kola Boof - the former mistress of Osama bin Laden - is writing for Days of our Lives.

The Sudanese-born novelist and poet wrote about her forced relationship with bin Laden in her recently published autobiography, Diary of a Lost Girl. She is apparently pursuing work in Hollywood as a screenwriter, and her literary pursuits now include a gig at Days of our Lives.

"Yes, Kola Boof has had writing assignments from Days since May," confirms Stephen Wyman, Days' coexecutive producer. "However, she does not hold a staff position with our writing team."

The NBC soap declined to offer any further specifics about Boof's work for the show.

(I got some info about this a couple of weeks ago, but had nothing to back it up. I guess it's fact. There was lots more info associated with this interesting development, but I'm still trying to verify it. Stay tuned...)

June 21, 2006

Several sources now seem to be confirming the rumblings about the Days renewal and headwriter change. Days has been renewed, although there are several unpublished terms to this renewal. (Word has it that budge cuts are a large part of it.) A new headwriter is also in place. Hogan Sheffer will take over Days in July (but chances are we won't see his stuff onscreen for quite some time). He's best known for his stint as the HW of ATWT from 2000-2005. In the interim, Beth Milstein, who has been working at Days for at least 20 years, will be headwriter. She has been both an associate producer and a member of the writing team. Stephen Nichols confirms these changes in his recent blog.

R.I.P. Soap Talk

SOAPnet has canceled Soap Talk after four fabulous seasons. Co-hosts Lisa Rinna (ex-Billie) and Ty Treadway and the show's staff were just informed yesterday. Word is, the news came as a total shock to all.

Unfortunately, while Soap Talk has brought lots of positive attention to SOAPnet, its ratings were considered too low to warrant renewal for a fifth season. It's telling that repeat episodes of the sudsy chatfest often do just as well in the Nielsens as fresh episodes.

"It's been a great run and all of us here at SOAPnet are very proud of Soap Talk, its 12 Daytime Emmy nominations and the incredible staff for their role in developing, creating and making this show work week after week," SOAPnet honcho Deborah Blackwell said in a statement. "We also thank our hosts, Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadway for their constant professionalism and charm. Soap Talk will remain a part of our schedule at 11 am, 4 pm and midnight and [Season 4's remaining 28] new episodes will continue to roll out through the fall."

In the latest SOD, Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) has announced that her last tape date will be Friday, August 18, 2006. That makes her final airdate as Jennifer sometime in mid-September. Reeves has also said that Jennifer is still in scripts after that, as it seems the writers weren't told of her leaving. That leaves a possibility of a recast, especially with news that Matthew Asford just recently re-upped his contract.

"Days" will be preempted on Thursday, July 6 and Friday, July 7 for NBC's annual coverage of Wimbledon Tennis. "Days" has been preempted annually for Wimbledon since 1986. (info from Jason 47)

Marilyn McIntyre is reprising her role as Jack & Steve's mother, Jo Johnson, beginning Tuesday, June 20. McIntyre debuted in the role on January 27, 1993, while Jo's original portrayor, Joy Garrett, was on medical leave. When Garrett passed away on February 15, 1993, McIntyre stayed with the show until Jack was written off in October, 1993. McIntyre briefly reprised her role in 2002 and 2003 for a few episodes, last airing on November 14, 2003. (info from Jason 47)

Arleen Sorkin (Calliope) has a book that just came out last month called "My Bad". It's 25 years of public apologies. It would make a great father's day gift for all the times you didn't tell him you were sorry.

from the New York Daily News...

Carolyn Hinsey (SOD editor) mentions that Jason Cook, who joined "Days" in September 1999 as the newly-aged Shawn Brady, may be leaving the series. His contract expires this fall, not next fall as was reported when he signed his last contract extension.

TV Guide asked about the summer absence of John and Marlena. "The John, Marlena and Alex story came to a conclusion," Days' spokesperson responds to TVGuide.com. "As always, certain stories play 'front burner' for awhile and then move 'back burner' as storytelling dictates. This is not unusual. John and Marlena are as important to our show as always!"

Days of our Lives has cast 22-year-old daytime newcomer Shayna Rose in the contract role of Stephanie Johnson, who is the teenage daughter of Salem supercouple Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Patch (Stephen Nichols). Rose first airs on Tuesday, July 4. The Colorado native has previously played small roles on shows like Commander in Chief and Gilmore Girls. You can find a pic of her at IMDB.com and her resume there as well.

TV Guide also did a Q&A with James Reynolds about Abe finding out about Lexie's affair.

Kayla is first seen on Monday. She's now a doctor. Mary Beth Evans believes Kayla hasn't come back to Salem because she didn't want to answer any questions. Real-Life Drama at Days of our Lives

Last week TVGuide.com was first to report that NBC has renewed Passions for another year, albeit with a much lower budget that required massive staff layoffs behind the scenes. But there's yet more drama afoot at NBC Daytime....

Variety all but confirms recent buzz that James E. Reilly is on his way out as head writer of Days of our Lives. The Hollywood trade mag says NBC has approached former As the World Turns head scribe Hogan Sheffer about writing Days in Reilly's stead. Variety further suggested that NBC &emdash; which does not own Days &emdash; is unlikely to renew the classic Corday sudser without another license-fee cut.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment when TVGuide.com asked for a reaction to Variety's report.

Meanwhile Days is currently contracted to stay on NBC through March 2007. I'm hearing that the Peacock has the contractual option to order additional seasons of Days, but has not yet decided whether to exercise that option.

With all due respect to James E. Reilly &emdash; 'cause I am a genuine fan of his work &emdash; it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if a fine talent like Sheffer took over as Days' head writer.

FYI, Sheffer did a splendid job as head writer of World Turns from 2000 to 2005. The CBS sudser claimed four Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team statuettes at the Daytime Emmys during his tenure. Not too shabby.

Reality TV Lures Days of our Lives Star

Back in January Arianne Zuker (ex-Nicole) quietly left her long-running gig on Days of our Lives to pursue other avenues in showbiz. So what's she been up to?

Well, for one thing, the blonde soap siren has gone brunette! Professionally, she did a guest spot on CSI: Miami in April and will appear in a celebrity-themed Fear Factor episode scheduled to air August 29 on NBC.

Patch and Kayla Return to Days of our Lives

The daytime soaps are suddenly addicted to retro '80s casting...

EXCLUSIVE: ARE MATT ASHFORD'S DAYS DONE?

Back in December, Matthew Ashford departed from the Days of our Lives canvas when his suicidal character, Jack Devereaux, drove his car off an icy bridge. Despite this, the NBC sudser insists that Ashford &emdash; who has "died" and returned to Days before &emdash; is still under contract. Here, TVGuide.com gets answers from the fan-fave himself.

TVGuide.com: Days says you're still under contract. True?

Matthew Ashford: Yes. I was back [on Jan. 26] shooting a scene where Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) finds a pair of Jack's cufflinks. It wasn't specified, but I think I'm not [there as] a ghost. I think I'm just a figment of Jen's imagination. I just say, "Jennifer, get on with it. If you want to give Frankie a kiss, go ahead, move on." It wasn't maudlin, it was very upbeat. [Editor's note: An NBC rep confirms that this scene will air Feb. 15.]

TVGuide.com: So you're presumed dead, but they'll bring you back alive like before?

Ashford: I imagine that's it. Because I said, "If it's going to be a Ghost and Mrs. Muir story line, tell me! I can come back and haunt Jen ad infinitum." [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Jack was already dying of an unspecified soap-opera illness when your car plunged into the river. That's like double death! What if Days decides to leave Jack in a watery grave?

Ashford: I feel like I've done very good work and it hasn't ensured that I'd stay in the past. I've been on and off the show, and I cannot let that rule my life. So I'm going to continue to do the best work I can do and hope for the best. If it turned out that I was not going to be back, that would have been a sad farewell to the character, my castmates and the audience. But I don't see that happening. I don't think that's the case.

TVGuide.com: Your name went missing from the show's credits in some recent episodes.

Ashford: Oh, I see. I wasn't aware of that. It's a very funny television world we're living in right now where these kind of things are going on. The show had eight or nine actors leave [during the serial-killer story] and then come back, and then said those actors were never really gone. They were gone. You kind of can't tell the audience the same thing twice.

TVGuide.com: What do you say to soap fans who are truly worried about you?

Ashford: They always ask, "Are you dead? Are you off the show?" I say, "Well, not really." You're not seeing me on screen very much, so it's really hard to give the audience a clear answer. I just want to thank all the fans for their support. They have been incredible. I also want to ask them to hang on a bit longer and hope for a juicy story, because that's what I've been asked to do.

TVGuide.com: Maybe Days will get Jen cooking with Frankie, then have Jack return healthy and regret pushing them together so hard.

Ashford: I check in with Missy Reeves and Billy Warlock (Frankie), and they're saying [their characters are] getting a chance to get a little closer. Billy's concern is that this couple are given a real shot at moving on with their lives. All I can say is stay tuned. Hopefully, we're going to have a really nice payoff at the end of this. My only hope is that the stakes are really high.

TVGuide.com: You deserve better than that depressing stuff you played toward the end. Was that hard?

Ashford: It was. For months, I was playing one note: "I'm getting out of here. I'm dying." That was hard for me as an actor. But I applaud the Days writers and producers for the story line about Zack's death. Kristian [Alfonso, Hope] and Peter [Reckell, Bo] have been doing great work. That's got to get our show some attention next year, around Emmy time. I'm hoping [my costars and I] will also have something like that.

Days of our Lives hustler Brody Hutzler (Patrick) will report to the set of NBC's Las Vegas on Monday to tape a guest gig. His role? A sexy masseur who oils up and rubs down Ms. Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda, General Hospital) in the March 10 episode.

Arianne Zuker has announced that she is exiting Days. "Arianne has decided to take this opportunity to venture out and explore new projects," a DAYS spokesperson said in a statement. "The cast and crew of DAYS know that she is an extraordinary talent and although she will be dearly missed, we wish her every success! " According to reports, she makes her final appearance on February 10th. However, on her website she says, "I wanted to clarify that my last airdate is not Feb. 10th. I know it's confusing, but that is the last date of my contract. I will be shooting what I believe is my last show this coming Friday the 20th. I am not sure when that airs." According to NBC, "There are no immediate plans to recast the role of Nicole."

 Soaps Unite for Africa

In a rare show of daytime unity, stars from ABC, NBC and CBS have joined together to spread the word about the health and poverty crisis surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. On Tuesday, October 25 we'll be doing our part in Salem.

Jennifer: "When I said "a little here, a little there, it all adds up," it hit me. One dollar from you, one dollar from me -- it could mean so much help for people who desperately need it."

So said Jennifer to her cousin Hope during their day out together.

A little here, a little there. Like what you might save if you skipped the trip to Starbuck's, just once a week. It does add up, and there are people suffering, all over the world, you can use our help.

As of last year, there are 12 million children in Africa whose parents have died of AIDS. Two generations are being affected, the parents, who are dying through misinformation about how the HIV/AIDS is spread and ignorance of how and where to get the medicine that could keep them alive, and the children. These children often go without enough food to eat and are ostracized due to the stigma that AIDS carries in the region. Some of these kids have seen their parents murdered in front of their eyes, just for being infected.

Hope: "A little here, a little there?"

Jennifer: "Right. Abby's leftover allowance and birthday money. And she's got Jack and me taking the change out of our pockets every night. She took an old won ton soup container and put a label on it -- "Money for Africa." Little by little we're filling it."

That's all it takes to help save someone's life, to make it better, to give them hope. It doesn't seem like a lot, but every little dop in the bucket helps.

October 12th - (SoapOperaNetwork.com) - SOAPnet will be pulling out all of the stops this November to celebrate NBC daytime's 40 year old soap opera, 'Days of Our Lives!' Having premiered in 1965, 'DAYS' will be marking its 40th anniversary on November 8th.

SOAPnet will kick off the celebration with a special episode of 'Soap Talk' that will feature original castmember, Frances Reid (Alice), as well as Suzanne Rogers (Maggie), Deidre Hall (Marlena), Charles Shaughnessy (ex-Shane), Stephen Nichols (ex- Steve "Patch" Johnson), Drake Hogestyn (John), Peter Reckell (Bo), Kristian Alfonso (Hope), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), and executive producer, Ken Corday. The special episode, hosted by Soap Talk regulars, Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadyway, will air on November 7th.

On Tuesday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m., SOAPnet will premiere the very first two episodes of 'Days Of Our Lives!' The two episodes originally aired on November 8th and 9th 1965 and are a half an hour in duration.

Continuing the celebration later in the month, the network will air "Bo & Hope: Through the Years." It will premiere on Friday, November 25th at 8:00 p.m. The saga will include milestone events in the lives of Bo and Hope, one of the most popular and beloved couples in the show's rich history.

The six episodes will include: an episode from 1984 in which Hope's father, Doug Williams, has a heart attack at the sight of Bo and Hope almost making love; another episode from 1984 in which Bo stops Hope's wedding to Larry Welch; Bo and Hope's extravagant and unforgettable first wedding in England in 1985; the birth of Shawn Douglas Brady in 1987; Hope's heartbreaking and tearjerking goodbye to Bo and her subsequent "death" at the hands of Ernesto Toscano in 1990; and 2002's announcement that Bo is actually Zack's true father on the day of his Christening.

Rolling Stones link with Days

BURBANK, Calif. -ˆ October 11, 2005 -- NBC's "Days of our Lives" and The Rolling Stones have partnered to embark on a four-month unprecedented and multi-faceted deal, it was announced today by Sheraton Kalouria, Senior Vice President, NBC Daytime Programs.

Forty years ago, as the Rolling Stones began their tours, "Days of our Lives" began its run on NBC. On October 18, the two worlds will partner as "Days of our Lives" airs the world premiere of the Stones' "Streets of Love" video in its entirety (1 p.m. in most time zones; check local listings for times). For another four weeks after the video premiere, viewers of "Days" and fans of the Rolling Stones will continue to hear the song as it underscores the song's themes of love and loss that will be brought to life by the storylines on "Days of our Lives."

"I can't imagine a more exciting way to celebrate the 40th landmark year of 'Days of our Lives' than with the Rolling Stones," said Sheraton Kalouria, Senior Vice President, NBC Daytime. "It is truly a reflection on the show's connection with pop culture and a testament to its continued popularity after 40 years on television."

Randy Miller, Virgin Records' Executive Vice President, Marketing, noted, "with 'Days of our Lives' also celebrating its 40th anniversary and its continued popularity as the #1 daytime drama amongst women 18-34, the show was the perfect vehicle for promoting the Rolling Stones and their latest single 'Streets of Love.'"

"This unique alliance is one that's both exciting and ground-breaking for all of us. 'Days of Our Lives' instantly came to mind as the only show that could deliver the high impact results they were looking for," added, Gregg Hamerschlag, CEO of ShiftDirection Media, the firm that helped develop and introduce the concept to NBC Universal.

Days' 40th anniversary

SOD will feature a 40th anniversary section for DAYS, which will be in the issue on sale November 8. SOAPnet is planning an anniversary tribute as well. During the anniversary week, fans can see the first two episodes of the show, which provide a good indication that DAYS was going to make it. See Macdonald Carey's Tom counsel troublemaking granddaughter Julie &emdash; and Marie plan her doomed wedding to Tony &emdash; on November 8, the show's actual anniversary. The other treat is a "Bo and Hope: Through The Years," marathon, which will air November 25. The episodes capture the highlights from the '80s: Doug has a heart attack after catching the duo about to make love for the first time, Bo rescuing Hope from her wedding to Larry, Bo and Hope's lavish nups in England, as well the birth of Shawn Douglas in 1987 and the vat of acid in 1990. But besides the Bradys, the episodes provide fabulous peeks into Salem past with Leann Hunley (ex-Anna), Quinn Redeker (ex-Alex), Gloria Loring (ex-Liz), Lisa Trusel (ex-Melissa), Michael Leon (ex-Pete) and Don Diamont (Brad, Y&R; ex-Carlo) in his first daytime role. Trust me: This is one Friday night you'll want to stay home.

NEW LOVE FOR LUCAS ON DAYS

Bad news for "Lumi" fans: In the wake of their wrecked wedding, Lucas and Sami are drifting toward other lovers on Days of our Lives.

Sami (Alison Sweeney) will grow closer to her entrepreneurial ex, Austin, as they become roommates and coworkers at his new cosmetics company. Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) will be their fierce business rival after Titan honcho Victor Kiriakis offers him the executive job Austin declined. "All of this kills Lucas," Dattilo tells TVGuide.com. "Lucas wants to bury his brother and show Sami who the real man in town is."

Sami is sure to notice the new looker in Lucas' life. Days has cast daytime rookie Sung Hi Lee as Sophie, a sexy new waitress at Alice's restaurant. "Lucas meets Sophie when he's covering for Shawn as the bartender &emdash; as every alcoholic should do," Dattilo laughs. "I guess he's spending time on the other side of the bar for a change. Anyway, this girl brings out his inner fire. There's sexual tension and, next thing you know, they're laying [kisses] on each other. I make sure to do as many takes as necessary for those kissing scenes!"

FYI, the Korean-born Lee is a former Playboy Playmate who has added va-va-voom to such TV shows as V.I.P., Mortal Kombat and The King of Queens. She also had a small role in Renee Zellweger's black comedy Nurse Betty, about a widow's delusional obsession with a soap star. She first airs on Days on Oct. 18.

Susan and Bill Hayes write a book

You should write a book. People often say that; other people too often listen. But not everyone should really write a book. Then you have Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes. They'd been told they should write a book and, in fact, they should. And lucky for all of us, they did. They have an amazing tale to tell, full of Hollywood history, Salem history and their own rich and wonderful love story. They're Salem's first super-couple and town royalty who even graced the cover of Time magazine, January 12, 1976.

To celebrate the publication of the book, Like Sands Through the Hourglass, which hit the racks October 4, 2005, Ken Corday threw them an on-set party, complete with a yummy cake and many of their co-cast members wishing them well. Ken gave a gracious speech and Bill and Susan spoke, as well. Read their story at SoapCity to find out more and help their bookhit the best-seller list.

Trump to appear on Days

NEW YORK (AP) -- Donald Trump, soon to premiere the fourth season of "The Apprentice," will make his daytime soap opera debut on NBC's "Days of Our Lives."

Trump was to tape his appearance Friday for an episode set to air Oct. 24, the network said.

"I'm thrilled that Donald Trump will be guest starring on `Days of Our Lives,"' Sheraton Kalouria, senior vice president, NBC Daytime, said in a statement Wednesday.

"(Trump) intimately knows drama from his many business ventures to his weekly boardrooms on `The Apprentice.' Little does he know that the drama on `Days of Our Lives' is often more intense!"

The new season of "The Apprentice," in which candidates compete for a job with the real estate mogul, premieres Sept. 22.

NEW HOME FOR DAYTIME EMMYS

In April 2006 the 33rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from Oscar's home base, the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It's the first time in the awards show's history that soap stars and talk-show hosts won't gather in New York City to accept trophies, pretend to lose graciously and stifle laughter at the usual presenter gaffes and delirious acceptance speeches. You'll hear no complaints from this reporter, since the Kodak is conveniently located across the street from TV Guide's Hollywood headquarters. Let Susan Lucci come to me for a change!

Soap City has an interview with Wayne Northrop, talking about his return to Days

from TVGuide.com...

Passions fans, get ready for a substitute Sheridan. Former Savannah star Shannon Sturges will be seen filling in for an ailing McKenzie Westmore in seven episodes of the NBC sudser, beginning Aug. 26 and ending Sept. 15. By way of explanation, Westmore recently posted this on her official website: "I have an acute inner-ear infection that is causing terrible vertigo. Basically, every time I stand up, I get sick and the room spins, so I am off for a bit until my ears drain." Ewww! That's a little TMI, Mac. A simple "I'm out sick" would have sufficed.

Looks like Days of our Lives beauty Nadia Bjorlin has put ex-beau Bruce Willis behind her but good. On Saturday night the costar of UPN's upcoming Sex, Love & Secrets hit Hollywood's ultraexclusive Cabana Club to attend Maxim and SKYY Vodka's party feting fall TV's hottest new faces. Although Bjorlin posed solo for red-carpet shutterbugs, she spent the entire soirée attached to her Sex cast mate James Stevenson. Based on the perpetual grin on her face and how closely the duo held each other all evening, it was clear to this TVGuide.com busybody that Bjorlin and Stevenson are much more than mere colleagues.

DAYS STUD: WILL HE RETURN?

Our long wait is over! Soap heartthrob Austin Peck finally returns to Days of our Lives as Austin Reed on Sept. 26. The former object of Sami's obsession turns up in Salem just as she is about to marry his half brother, Lucas. And get this: In a stroke of NBC-Bravo corporate synergy, Austin will be chauffeured home by a man-hungry limousine driver &emdash; played by none other than D-List diva Kathy Griffin.

As for the constant "when will he return questions... "Don't worry, he's still coming back," Peck's rep reassures TVGuide.com. "Days had about three stories to wrap up first. Kate had to get her comeuppance for framing Sami; Tony DiMera has to be defeated; and Brady and Chloe have to be married off.

In the meantime, Mr. Pecs has been keeping his ab-licious self busy with various gigs, including a guest role on this week's Strong Medicine &emdash; he plays a policeman who's mistaken for a birthday-party stripper by Rosa Blasi. Look for this arresting development in Peck's career to air Sunday at 9 pm/ET on Lifetime. He also stars in the indie romantic comedy Dating Games People Play, which is currently making its rounds on the film-festival circuit.

 from tvguide.com...

You think Days of our Lives heroine Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) is confused about her love life now? Just wait until August 1, when Days vet Wayne Northrop rejoins the NBC sudser. Yes, you read that right.

But there's a catch... Spoiler alert! Stop reading if you don't wish to know more. Although he was the original Roman Brady, Northrop will be playing a brand-new character called Dr. Alex North. He's a world-renowned psychiatrist who's brought in to treat Marlena when she's stricken with amnesia. (Just how she loses her memory is a plot point I'll have to keep under wraps.)

Why isn't Northrop reprising the role of Roman? "Because Josh Taylor plays Roman Brady," the show's rep laughs. "Josh is not going anywhere, nor is Drake Hogestyn (John). This is unprecedented! The three men who have portrayed Roman Brady will all be on the screen at the same time.

"Wayne Northrop is a tremendous actor," the rep adds. "We know there are fans who know and love Wayne as Roman, but we also have a lot of fans who have no idea who Wayne is or was. He left the show 11 years ago."

Naturally, the die-hard Days fans will question whether Alex North must somehow turn out to be the real Roman. The show has played musical identities with this character before. "That's what makes the dynamic that much more intriguing and fun," teases the rep. "How could the fans not go there? Will he turn out to be Roman? For now, that's not the plan. But it's a soap!"

True confession time: I'm one of the aforementioned fans who are too young to have watched Northrop's original run. But considering how much fun he was during his late-'90s stint on Port Charles &emdash; he played the deliciously evil Rex Stanton opposite his real-life wife Lynn Herring (Lucy; ex-Lisanne, Days) &emdash; I can still highly recommend his entertainment value.

So will our Wayne be wicked this time around? Responds Days exec producer Ken Corday: "Whether the Dr. Alex North character's intentions are good or evil... this remains to be played out! Needless to say, we are thrilled to have Wayne back on board. The chemistry he has with the cast, especially with Deidre Hall, will become very important to Marlena's story. The rooting intention, however, will remain the John and Marlena love story."

June 27, 2005

The most recent TV Guide is reporting that on August 1, Wayne Northrop will return to Days. Of course Josh Taylor now plays his former role, Roman Brady. "This is not going in the direction fans might assume," vows headwriter James Reilly. "Wayne will be playing a character named Alex North--but his familiar face is really going to throw Marlena." Reilly also hints that J&M fans will eventually see their faves reunited. "But until then they're going to hate me," he says. "They'll be throwing their baloney sandwiches at the screen."

from tvguide.com...
Recently, Days viewers learned that Marine POW Philip Kiriakis (Kyle Brandt) has had his right leg amputated below the knee, thanks to an unfortunate land-mine accident in the desert. (Thus, Belle's flight to visit her husband in a German military hospital is an extension of the looong guilt trip she's already been on for secretly loving her ex-boyfriend, Shawn.) Heather Mills McCartney, wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney guest stars to counsel Philip in upcoming episodes. McCartney is an amputee as a result of a 1993 car accident and has spent 11 years counseling amputees and their families, as well as doing advocacy work for Adopt-A-Minefield. She airs on June 29 and July 4. It was her impromptu meeting with Executive producer Ken Corday last year at an event that led to the Philip storyline. NBC apparently had to be sold on the storyline, as they'd never had a character who had a permanent disability such as this. But, the tie to the landmine cause was a positive one they decided.

Undoubtedly bored with his lack of story line and eager to try his luck in prime-time TV and films, Eric Winter taped his last scenes as Rex Brady on June 24. Predictably enough, Sexy Rexy finally learns the truth about Mimi's secret abortion, dumps Meems and skips town at the end of July.... Since both their contracts end this summer, Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe) and Kyle Lowder (Brady) will very likely exit Salem together in the not-too-distant future....

Billy Warlock (ex-A.J., GH) returns as Frankie Brady on June 27. Here's an interview with him at Soap City.

Darin Brooks first aired as Frankie's younger brother, race-car driver Max Brady, on June 22. You can read an interview with him at Soap City.

Charlie's Hallmark Channel movie "Mystery Woman: Vision of Murder" should premiere sometime in June. His character is Dr. Drummonds.  You can see photos of the movie at this link and read a synopsis at this link

Charlie's episode "Secrets of the Father" of Young Blades is showing in reruns on PAX TV and there is also a day change for that show.  It is moving to 8 pm on Thursdays, and his episode is scheduled to repeat on Thursday, 21 April, but check the PAX website and your local listings to be sure when it is playing.  It will be airing in Canada, but it looks like they have pushed that back until sometime in June.

A message from Kyle Brandt (Philip), as posted on his official site (www.kylebrandt.com)...

Droogie Nation-

I've been a big slacker, as far as my attendance here goes. It's just that when you spend about 20 consecutive hours working on your deck, it's tough to come here and put on a happy face. You dig?

Anyway, to make up for it- I'm long, long overdue for a DAYS journal. So sound the alert, let all of your friends on other message boards and DAYS sites know- I'm asking for DAYS related questions. Give 'em to me. If you are a DAYS fan and you have always wanted to know something, or there's something that's going on that you don't understand, or you want some dirt on a particular character- now's your chance. I will promise to deliver. But BE SPECIFIC. I don't want things like, "Kyle- tell us a funny k-story from the k-set!"

You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down. You've got a few days. I'm ready to rock.

K

So, head on over to his board and ask him a Q...

Kirsten Storms (Belle #5) is headed to General Hospital in the role of Maxie Jones. Below is the info from two confirmed sources.

From SoapsInDepth.com...
Kirsten Storms, a Young Artist Award winner during her five-year run as DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Belle, has been cast on GENERAL HOSPITAL in the role of Maxie Jones, daughter of Felicia/step-daughter of Mac, and older sister to Georgie). "I am and have always been a huge fan of GH," the actress says in a statement. "I'm thrilled to be working on a show with a great cast and quality writing, especially for the younger characters. I am very excited to join all of these amazing people during this next chapter in my career." Maxie most recently was played by Robyn Richards, who first joined GH in 1993.

When Storms makes her GH debut in late May, Maxie will find herself in a situation with implications that will affect her family as well as her friends Dillon, Brook Lynn and Diego.

From TVGuide.com...
She's not going back to Days of our Lives, and here's the proof: Kirsten Storms has joined the cast of General Hospital to play Maxie Jones, TVGuide.com has learned. She'll assume the role from departing actress Robyn Richards, who's appeared as Felicia and Frisco's oldest daughter since 1993. As Maxie delves back into the Port Charles teen scene, she'll face a dilemma that has a great impact on her family and friends. Storms, who launched her daytime career playing Belle Black on Days, was last seen in the short-lived prime-time series Clubhouse. Look for the actress to debut on GH in late May.

Peck returns to Days

Looks like you can go home again! Shooting down our theories about Austin Peck jumping to General Hospital, Days of our Lives has announced that the actor will return to the show some time this summer. Peck was last seen in Salem in 2002 as Austin Reed, Billie's bro who left a lying and scheming Sami at the altar. No word yet if Peck's back in his signature role, but we've got to ask, could Christie Clark's Carrie be far behind? In other returns, Alexis Thorpe will reprise her role as Cassie, Rex's twin sister, for a couple of episodes in April.
