BACKSTORY: Shortly after Roman remarried Marlena, Marlena was kidnapped by the ISA, hoping to goad Roman into finding the treasury bonds for them in exchange for his wife. This adventure went on for two months. It formed the foundation of Steve and Kayla becoming a supercouple, and portrayed Victor Kiriakis as being an evil, evil man. The three parties involved in competition for finding the bonds are as follows:

1. The ISA, including Roman trying to get Marlena back

2. Victor and his henchman, plus Orpheus as the main man

LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!

(The story is divided into episodes as they aired in 1986.)

Episode 1: On the joyful day that Roman (John) is supposed to remarry Marlena in August of 1986, on the way out the door to the church with Shawn, Roman receives a phone call from the airport, from a man named Gregory Landers, who is an associate to help Roman figure out his past. Roman noted that Gregory had arrived a day early, but Gregory, disregarding the fact that Roman is supposed to marry Marlena that day, asks to see Roman anyway and have him pick him up at the airport. Roman says no, he's late for his wedding, but offers Gregory some police protection as he arrives in downtown Salem. Gregory declines, and hurriedly says he'll be in touch. He hangs up the phone and heads for the luggage pickup area. Roman was left wondering what was going on, but thinking that he would indeed see Gregory the next day, shrugged off his suspicions, and headed out the door, tuxedo in hand. Immediately after Gregory hung up the phone and departed, a mysterious blonde woman is at the pay phone next to his. She slowly turns around and we see that it is Britta Englund, dressed in a shawl and a pair of sunglasses. She leaves, following him.

After their wedding, in the limousine, Roman tells Marlena about the conversation he had with Gregory earlier. Both agree that the circumstances surrounding his arrival sound fishy. During their conversation, down on the pier, Steve and Britta spot a man floating in the river and fish him out. They are stunned to see that it is Gregory. They notice that he has been shot and is not breathing. Back up in the limousine, there is a sudden jolt. Roman asks the driver what's going on. The driver replies that he needed to stop because there were police cars all around the waterfront/pier area. Marlena spies Patch down on the pier and mentions it to Roman. Roman and Marlena decide to get out of the car and go down to the pier to check out whatever is going on. Hand in hand, still in their wedding apparel, they walk down the steps to the pier to discover a slew of cops, plus Britta, Patch and a body. (Since Roman didn't know what Gregory looked like, he didn't know that the body WAS Gregory.) Roman asks Britta and Patch how they found the body and possibly how they know him.(Roman has his hands on his hips, like he usually does, even today as John.) They respond that he is a friend of theirs from Stockholm and his name is Gregory. Roman slaps his forehead in frustration; one dead end after another. Marlena comforts him about the death of his informant. But Roman doesn't stay frustrated for long; he gets ANGRY. Steve and Britta inform him that he was shot through the heart. Then the questions start. Roman and Steve have very argumentative rapport with each other and sometimes even get into fistfights with each other because they don't agree on ANYTHING. Roman thinks Steve is a troublemaker and likes to lie. In turn, Steve thinks that Roman taunts him with his authority way too much and acts like he's so much better than he is. It's clear these two don't like each other AT ALL. Roman turns to Steve and demands to know who killed Gregory. Patch responds he doesn't know. Roman gets even more ticked off and yells that he wants the truth. Patch yells right back, saying that he didn't even know why Gregory was in Salem in the first place. Roman turns his attention to Britta and sternly asks what she knows, but Britta calmly answers that she can't help him. As Roman and Marlena are starting to leave the pier, Roman spots a letter floating in the river. Hoping to get some clues as to why Gregory came to see him, he dives in, in his tux, to retrieve it. He does winding up getting it, but since the ink is smudged, he can't read a word of it. He is MAD. He and Marlena head back to the limousine to go to Blondie's for their wedding reception.

EPISODE 2: Roman explains to the guests why they are late and why he's soaking wet. Roman and Marlena head back to their house so Roman can change clothes. While they're kissing, Shane calls. The ballistics report came in, and per Roman's request, Shane called to let them know what he found out: The bullet removed from Gregory's body is from the same gun used to kill Billings. (Billings was another informant that Roman was supposed to meet, but he got killed before they could meet. Billings happened to be carrying a letter that said to get in touch with Gregory if anything ever happened to him. Sadly, Gregory got shot and now that letter he was carrying with him may be useless now.) So it becomes crystal clear that the same person probably killed both of them. Roman takes a shower, and when he comes out, he and Marlena get passionate and decide to call Blondie's to tell them they won't be coming to their own wedding reception: they have more "important" issues at hand, like their wedding night. Dave the Bartender says that everyone is having a great time, with or with out them there. Roman and Marlena enjoy a time of passion and love. Afterwards, Roman re-examines the letter, and not being able to read a word, decides to give the letter to Shane to bring down to the ISA forensics lab, hoping that they will be able to figure out what it says. While Roman and Marlena enjoy strawberries and whipped cream, Marlena says in a serious tone that she is changing their honeymoon destination from Mazatlan to West Virginia. She has the idea that if they recheck the cabin where the KGB kept all of their equipment, and where Roman found the Stockholm poster, it might be enough to jog his memory and help him figure out what exactly his past was in Stockholm.

EPISODE 3: The following morning, they head downstairs for breakfast. As Roman is discussing the case with Shane on the phone, Marlena goes outside to fetch the paper. Little does she know that there is a figure watching her from the shadows, from the bushes. As she heads back inside, she sees the bushes shake and asks if anyone is there. When no one answers, she gets that far-away look in her eyes, taps the newspaper in her hand, and goes back inside. Roman tells her that Shane is coming over to discuss Gregory's letter with him. He also mentions that he asked Shane to handle both the cases of Gregory and Billings' deaths while he is away on his honeymoon. And Shane, being the good chap that he is, said he would. When Shane arrives, he states that the goings-on in Stockholm are of great interest to the ISA, and the mystery may finally give him the chance to nail his sworn enemy, Victor Kiriakis. As they sit down, Roman tells Shane that one clue that Billings gave him was that his life in Stockholm had to do with "three knives." But Roman has no idea what that means. (He's still partially an amnesiac in that respect.) On a personal note, Shane tells Roman that he and Kim have called it quits. Roman insists it's just a lover's quarrel and that he was looking forward to having Shane as a brother-in-law, but Shane says no, it's over. After he leaves, Roman and Marlena gather their bags and go onto their honeymoon. A man follows them ....

As they drive, Roman hears a song on the radio and asks Marlena if she remembers that song; they once danced to it. Marlena gets a puzzled look on her face and says they NEVER danced to that song. Then Roman remembers they didn't; he danced to it with another woman and says that she really had it going on. Marlena swats him playfully, and says that he doesn't have to remember EVERYTHING. (A fun moment which reminds us why John and Marlena are a favorite couple today.) It's late at night, and they finally arrive at the campsite. But there's one problem: There's not a cabin there anymore. Roman thinks it has been moved to a secret location. (A true cop, huh?!) Since there's no cabin for them to stay in, they decide to get their sleeping bags out and camp out underneath the stars. (They always WERE a romantic couple.)

EPISODE 4: The next morning, Marlena awakens and doesn't see Roman. She gets frightened and shouts out for him. But Roman is nearby. He assures Marlena that he's fine. They awaken late in the morning, the sun is bright, the birds are chirping, and there is a light breeze...a perfect autumn day. While Roman is walking over leaves on the ground, he accidentally trips a land mine. (What a land mine is doing in a public forest I'll never know! It may be a little trick to ensure that the cabin never be found.) Shaken, he realizes it, and warns Marlena not to take another step. Marlena is nervous, but calmly asks Roman what she should do. Roman knows that if he moves, the land mine will explode, so he needs something that equals his weight to set on the land mine so he can walk away. They decide to fill the picnic basket with large rocks. Once they do that, they set it on the exact spot where Roman is standing. He starts to tentatively walk away towards Marlena, but it was not enough weight and it explodes. Roman grabs Marlena and dives for cover. They are all right, except they have leaves in their hair and black explosion marks on their face. They notice smoke arising from the spot where the land mine exploded, and go to see what is possibly under the ground. They are astonished to find that the cabin has been moved-UNDERGROUND! They both climb into the cabin.

EPISODE 5: The cabin looks the same as when they were last there. Roman starts to get angry and begins to have doubts about his identity. Marlena suggests that she try to hypnotize him. Roman balks at the idea at first, thinking it won't help. But then he sees how determined she is, so he decides to give it a shot. Once he goes under, his eyes closed, he begins to remember things. He remembers that something happened in Stockholm in 1979. Through flashbacks, he remembers a great deal. Here's what he remembers: There is going to be an exchange,a package from the KGB, which is very valuable. He flashes back to a blonde woman, it's Britta, wearing a knitted shawl. The exchange is taking place on a foggy pier. She has the package in her possession, and is giving it to...VICTOR KIRIAKIS! Roman comes to the conclusion that the KGB and Victor are connected, and he is not at all surprised. Hesitantly, Roman recalls that Britta double-crossed Victor and wound up giving the package to him. He gave protection to Britta because she was scared of the KGB. He gave her a whole new identity to keep her safe. He remembers he was on a pier with Britta and she handed him a large crate that said "U.S. Treasury." Britta gave Roman the key to open it and inside are United States Treasury engravings. He recalls that Billings helped him hide the engravings. Billings showed Roman the Stockholm poster and pointed to the dates on the poster, saying that Roman can always reach him at that number if he ever lost track of the engravings and needed help locating them again. Excited that he's making a breakthrough, Roman remembers that Britta was there with them on the docks, therefore she knows about the poster and the numbers. Roman took the poster home with him, then became trapped by the KGB. Knowing that the KGB could never get their hands on the poster, Roman hid it. ( The KGB could get the numbers off the poster, track down Billings, and use whatever means necessary to get the engravings, even murder.) Roman hung it on the wall in the cabin. But Roman can't remember where the engravings are. He gets very angry, and after the hypnotism session, Roman mutters that everyone who could lead him to them are dead now. Marlena calms him down, and assures him that they'll get to the bottom of it. They decide to get a hotel room for the night and rest, but as they walk to the ladder to get out of the cabin, they hear a noise above and realize someone is up there. ( A funny scene, Roman with his gun, climbs the steps and we see his head pop out of the ground!) He comes upon a hiker who it totally innocent, or so it seems. ( Another funny moment, he calls out to Marlena down there, saying, "Honey?" and her head pops out of the ground.) The hiker continues walking and as soon as Roman and Marlena are out of distance, a mysterious man comes up to the hiker and pays him $50, as promised.

EPISODE 6: When Roman and Marlena arrive at their hotel room, Roman decides to give Shane a call to see if they found out anything about Gregory's letter. But as he's dialing, he notices that Marlena is swaying a bit. He hangs up the phone, walks over to her, and she faint s in his arms. He carries her over to the bed and lies her down. She is conscious, but says she was just a little light-headed, she's just tired. Roman wants to take her to the hospital to make sure, but Marlena stops him, saying she doesn't want to go, she just wants him to hold her. Roman declares that seeing the stress the whole mystery of Stockholm has put them under, he's decided to forget about it and just concentrate on Marlena and the kids. He also tells her he's decided to resign from the ISA. Marlena is shocked. She asks him if he's sure, and he answers yes; Marlena and the kids are all that matters to him. (What a romantic!) Marlena gives him a kiss. Later, Marlena is in her pink, satin robe, looking out the window, and we can hear cars honking and engines sounding. She turns away from the window, and John comes up from behind her and kisses her on the neck. He says he made the right decision deciding to resign from the ISA. They declare their love for one another. Outside, a mystery man is on a pay phone, reporting that they are at a hotel.

EPISODE 7: Roman and Marlena are in the car again, the hood down, so they are enjoying the weather. Marlena is wearing sunglasses and Roman, his 80's trademark brown leather jacket. They both say they are very happy and that this is a new beginning for them. Roman sets up a surprise for Marlena: It's a picnic in the wood. Marlena starts talking about loving life, evolution, changes, and Roman looks at her as if to say, "What are you talking about????" He has a lopsided grin on his face. They set a blue and white plaid blanket on the ground and start to set up their picnic. They kiss, while a man in a park ranger hat watches them from the bushes. It is a park ranger and tells another man on his cellular phone, "Don't worry. I've got the Bradys in my sight. I won't lose them."

Roman and Marlena are snuggling and John has taken off his jacket to reveal his amazing upper-body in a black T-shirt. They take a lap around the pond. Then they begin to kiss as a song serenades them. It's "Nothing's Going to Change My Love For You." (Another scene which reminds us why they are one of DAYS's best couples.) Between kisses, they hear a noise in the bushes and realize that something is following them. They walk slowly and have a hunch that the person following them has to something to do with Stockholm. Roman catches the park ranger who was watching them, and after a little scuffle, Roman demands to know who this park ranger is working for and why he's following him and Marlena. The park ranger plays dumb, saying he doesn't know what Roman's talking about. Wanting to hopefully get the truth out of him, Roman takes him to the ground and dunks him head in the pond a few times. With a drenched head, the park ranger says that Roman is crazy. Roman responds, "OH, YEAH??" and dunks his head a couple more times. Finally, the man agrees to anything Roman says. Roman tells him to tell his boss that he's not involved anymore; game's over. The park ranger complies. Roman jerks him up to his feet and says that he's going to concentrate on his wife and kids now. He lets the park ranger go. Night falls and they start to pack up. The same park ranger is walking them from the bushes and says in response to the comment Roman made about not being involved anymore, "Dream on, Brady."

EPISODE 8: Roman and Marlena arrive back in Salem and head to Shenanigan's, where they are welcomed back by Kayla. Kayla is wearing a denim dress and looks very pretty. Roman and Marlena sit down because Roman is dying of hunger and wants some strawberry pancakes. He gets restless and wonders where Shane is, he wants to know what the ISA found out about Gregory's letter. Shane comes and asks Marlena how their honeymoon went. Marlena says it was a real adventure. Shane begins to share Roman's pancakes, as he is starving, too. Roman tells Shane he got his memory back. He says he always feared that whatever he did would be something he would be ashamed of. Roman asks Shane about the letter, and the ISA came up with a lot. The letter contained several letters and numbers, and Roman thinks it might be a code of some sort, but says it's not much help. Roman tells Shane he's resigning from the ISA and is going to give all the information he has on Stockholm to them and let them handle it. Roman and Marlena mention to Shane that they are going to fly to Washington D.C. to tell Chief Vaughn that Roman is resigning. Shane decides to accompany them, he needs to speak to Vaughn about a matter anyway. As they head out the door, Kayla walks in, holding Max's hand, with Frankie following them.

EPISODE 9: Roman, Marlena, and Shane arrive in D.C. and at Chief Vaughn's office. Vaughn tells Roman that he is anxious to hear about the new information on the Stockholm case. Vaughn reveals to Roman that the ISA knew to a certain extent what happened on the pier that foggy night in Stockholm in 1979. Roman is furious that the ISA would keep part of his memory from him, and this fact makes him even more gungho about resigning from "this Mickey Mouse club." ( Roman's words.") Roman yells at Vaughn that he's been under enormous stress, both he and his wife and was worried that whatever he did was illegal. Roman kicks the wastebasket and swears at Vaughn. Vaughn explains that the treasury engravings were just a cover for what was really in that box, which were $25 billion dollars worth of fake treasury bonds. He goes on to say that the real ones are going to be delivered to Roman and they need to recover the fake ones before the due date inscribed on the box, otherwise besides having the government come up with $25 billion dollars, they'll have to come up with $50 billion dollars. Vaughn states that in the meantime, the entire American economy will collapse, and when that happens, it won't be long before the World Market goes into a shambles. Roman, unimpressed, gives the file on Stockholm to Vaughn and says he's resigning. Roman declares that he has been jerked around by the ISA for the last time and he's getting out while the gettin's good. Vaughn shoots back that Roman is selfish and has an attitude problem. Vaughn then says that another party (Victor and Orpheus) is competing with them in the search for the bonds, and they desperately need Roman to help. Roman takes a deep breath and says that he is going to resign from the ISA and that's that. They leave the headquarters and fly back to Salem. In Vaughn's office, his assistant asks Vaughn why he let Roman go. Vaughn says it's obvious why Roman quit: it was Marlena and his children, but says that Roman's not out of it- not by a long shot. Vaughn decides to assign Shane to the case of getting those fake bonds. He also notes that Roman said he would only get involved if things were to affect him personally, which include his wife. They decide to enlist Marlena's help. Vaughn says this with a smirk on his face.......

EPISODE 10: At home, Roman is re-examining the Stockholm poster and when Marlena comes home, he hides it. He wanted her to stay at work so he could do some investigating into the Stockholm case. He is having second thoughts about resigning. While Marlena is hugging him, she notices the Stockholm poster on the side of the couch. Roman claims that looking at it and the numbers might trigger his memory, but no luck. Marlena says that Roman is still stuck on the case, but Roman denies it, saying he just wants to shut the door on the case. Roman says he'll give the poster to Shane and let the ISA figure it out. Roman departs with the poster to give to Shane. Roman returns a short while later, saying that all his ties to the Stockholm case are cut and he feels like a free man. As they're kissing, Carrie, Samantha, and Eric come out of the kitchen with a vanilla cake and says she made it. Roman scoops both Samantha and Eric in his arms. Roman jokingly asks where Marlena's chocolate cake is. Marlena berates him, one cake is enough. Carrie feigns surprise, says she forgot, goes into the kitchen, and returns with a chocolate cake. Roman and Marlena are stunned. They all hug.

EPISODE 11: Later, Roman invites Britta over and confronts her about the fact that she was on the pier that night, and knew about the whole thing, but never told Roman. Britta looks to the floor, while biting her lip. Roman goes on to say that Britta treated him like a fool, but now everything is out in the open. Britta tries to explain why she never told Roman, but Roman is tired of her excuses and offers her a fair warning: The guys dealing with this case are pretty nasty and that the "big boys" play rough, so he tells her to GET OUT NOW. Britta is obviously shaken by Roman's words and decides to heed his advice. She then leaves. Later, Roman, Marlena, Carrie, Eric, and Samantha enjoy family time.

A mysterious man tells someone on the phone that Roman Brady is not in the game anymore: It's Britta Englund now. He says that Britta knows more about the plan than she apparently should.....

EPISODE 12: The next day, Roman is doing some work at home, with his feet up on the desk when Marlena comes in. They both decide to take a bath together, but as they're heading up the stairs, the doorbell rings. It's Abe, who reports that a drug junkie is on the loose, escaped from the mental hospital. Little do they know he's at the Emergency Center, terrorizing Kayla with a knife, and hoping to get more drugs. knowing that the junkie may come to Kayla for drugs, Roman calls her to warn her. As Kayla is talking to Roman on the phone, she says everything is all right, but says it very scarily. Roman senses that something is wrong, and he and Abe decide to go over there. Max is with Kayla when the junkie is pressuring her to get the drug cabinet open. He runs to go get Steve. Steve arrives and belts the junkie in the stomach. In the process, Kayla accidentally gets stabbed. Roman and Abe arrive. Roman thanks Steve coolly for being in the right place at the right time. As Abe talks to Max about coming down to the station to get a lollipop, Steve and Kayla are lost in each other's eyes. (This is how supercouples are made, folks!)

Eugene and Calliope show up at Marlena's house to chat. The doorbell rings and it's Chief Vaughn, asking to speak with Roman. Vaughn decides to wait until Roman gets home, and Marlena introduces him to Eugene and Calliope. Vaughn talks to Roman about reconsidering helping the ISA, but Roman holds his ground, saying his decision is final. He wants nothing more to do with the ISA. Since Roman refused to help, Vaughn decides to kidnap Marlena to GET him to help.

EPISODE 13: The next morning, Vaughn shows up to see Roman and Marlena once again in a last-ditch effort to try to get Roman to help the ISA find the bonds. Roman says under his breath that he's getting on his nerves. Vaughn counters that Roman and his family are in a great deal of danger. (The ISA is getting closer to kidnapping Marlena.) Vaughn reports that one of the ISA's contacts was murdered that morning and the other party (Victor and Orpheus) has escalated their efforts to get the bonds. The other party knows about Roman and since Roman is the only one who can remember and know the location of the bonds, Vaughn is concerned about his safety. So, Vaughn assigns Roman high-priority protection 24 hours a day. Marlena is furious, saying it's ridiculous. Marlena doesn't want their lives turned upside-down, and she doesn't want her children under guards to protect them from shootings and other possible calamities. Roman assures her that if they want to be safe, they need protection. They are in anguish about this decision, but they decide it's for the best.

Next scene, the two guards are at the house, and it's obvious that Marlena is annoyed by their presence. When one of the men goes upstairs to make a call, Marlena secretly calls Roman and complains that with these men here, she feels like she's in jail. Roman tells her to hang in there. When Marlena goes into the kitchen to get something to eat, Carrie comes home unexpectedly, and one of the men draws a gun on her. She screams. Marlena hears and comes rushing to her. Carrie is crying uncontrollably and Marlena gently tries to explain the situation to her. The two men apologize, but Marlena will hear none of it. She kicks them out for good. She is mad! (Carrie looks so cute!) Roman comes home later, and Marlena reports that one of the guards drew a gun on Carrie. Roman is shocked. After they hug, Marlena leaves for the hospital to get some work done.

At the station, Shane comes to request Roman's help in the Stockholm case, but Roman refuses to get involved. Roman listens, though, to Shane. Shane says that the ISA knows that Britta and Kiriakis were involved. At home as Marlena goes into the kitchen someone mysterious unlocks the front door, dressed in black. As he's getting prepared to bug the phone, Marlena walks out and gasps, "Who are you?"

Roman insists to Shane that the ISA is going to have to figure out this mess on their own. As Roman leaves, he says that Marlena and his children take first priority in his life.

Marlena warns the intruder that her husband will be home soon, but another man dressed in black comes up from behind her and grabs her as she lets out a shriek. (I'll call them intruder #1 and intruder #2) Intruder #1 gets a handkerchief and fills it with ether to put over Marlena's mouth to knock her out, but she fights back, kicking him onto the couch, making a beeline for the door, but intruder #2 grabs her, puts the hanky over her mouth and she suddenly falls limp. They exit.

Roman arrives home, and the room is dark. He draws his gun and carefully searches the house. He yells out Marlena's name and when he has finished searching the main level, he heads upstairs, but then the phone rings. He cautiously goes to answer it and the person on the other end says in a muzzled tone, "We have your wife." The look on Roman's face is one of shock and disbelief. Roman then calmly asks, "Who is this?" The man doesn't answer, but tells him that his wife is safe. He also tells Roman to stay in the game: if he ever wants to see his wife again, he'll find those treasury bonds. Roman screams that he's not going to blackmail him, but the man answers, "Find the bonds and you'll get your wife back unharmed." Roman says under his breath, "When I get my hands on you, pal, you're dead meat." The man says that they'll be in touch and hangs up.

EPISODE 14: Roman slams down the phone in frustration. He then paces back and forth in the living room. Then, looking at the phone, he decides to call Abe and ask him to put out an APB on Marlena. Immediately after that, he calls Shane and reports that Marlena has been kidnapped. Shane is shocked, and says he'll be right over. Roman's reaction is a mixture of sadness, shock, and determination. Sadness, that he wasn't there when the kidnappers arrived and knocked Marlena out with ether. Shock, that whoever is behind this is willing to do something as desperate as to kidnap a loved one, just to get to Roman and have him find the treasury bonds. Determination, that he will go to the ends of the earth to get Marlena back unharmed, so he can resume his life with her and his children. Roman is sitting on the couch, his head in his hands, crying softly. (Tough guys CAN cry!)

Shane arrives at Roman's house and Shane is obviously upset as well. With his hands on his hips, Roman tells Shane that when he got home, the house was trashed, Marlena wasn't there, and then he got a phone call from the man who has Marlena. Roman is apparently trying to stay calm is now focusing on doing whatever he can to get Marlena back. Shane glances around the room, running his fingers through his hair. Roman says that he has a hunch that he's sure this whole kidnapping and Stockholm bit has to do with Kiriakis and Britta. Shane exclaims,"Ahhh, Britta!" He then reveals to Roman that Britta was in his house the other day snooping around looking for something, but he's not sure what. They both rush out the door, on their way to see Britta, hoping to find out what else she's kept from them and get to the bottom of this. Once they're out the door, and the lights are turned off, a suspicious man in black, wearing black gloves, sneaks into the house and goes into the living room. By the lamp, he leaves behind an envelope addressed to Roman. This is no doubt a message from Marlena's kidnappers.

EPISODE 15: After a while, Roman and Shane return to the house, frustrated that they weren't able to find Britta OR Patch. Roman remarks that it's ironic that whenever Shane or Roman need Patch, he's nowhere to be found, vanished into thin air. Then when they don't need him, he's always in your face, trying to get into an argument. (This is a funny scene.) Shane comments that he seems to have a talent for that. (In 1986, Steve is still pitted up against Shane and Roman, they don't become friends until much later.) Shane asks Roman to recall the conversation he had with the man earlier on the phone bit by bit. Roman relays every word they said. As Shane leaves, he assures Roman that they WILL find Marlena. Roman says he appreciates Shane helping him out. After Shane leaves, Roman gets restless, and as he's going upstairs, spots the envelope addressed to him. He goes over to the lamp, widens his eyes, and opens it hastily. The note says:"Your wife is safe for now, but time's running out. Get all the clues leading to Stockholm and find the bonds, or you'll never see your wife again." Roman crumples the note, stuffs it into his jacket, and leaves the house.

EPISODE 16: We see Marlena, in the same clothes she was kidnapped in, pacing around the hotel suite, with two men in the room; one dealing cards, and the other reading a magazine.( I'll call them Bad Guy no.1 and Bad Guy no. 2) Bad Guy no.1 asks her to take a load off her feet and sit down, but she adamantly refuses. The conversation between these two is argumentative:

Marlena: Why are you holding me hostage?
Bad Guy no.1: Why don't you shut up and sit down?
Marlena: I don't even know who you are!
Bad Guy no.1: Don't get on my nerves, lady!

Bad Guy no.1 leaves the room. He opens a secret compartment to the room so he can see Marlena through glass, but she can't see him. He gets on the phone and calls Chief Vaughn. He tells Vaughn that they captured Marlena and that she's not going anywhere. Just then, Roman bursts into Vaughn's office, intent on making Vaughn and the rest of the ISA do everything in their power to find Marlena. Roman tells Vaughn that Marlena has been kidnapped. Vaughn says he heard; maybe she should have kept her guards around. Roman is trying to stay calm, but it's very obvious that he's getting even more angrier. Vaughn plays dumb when he asks Roman who's got Marlena.(HE DOES!) Roman replies that he doesn't know; all he got was a phone call and a note. Roman walks back and forth in his office, saying he doesn't understand why they took Marlena, she has no connection to the bonds. Vaughn answers what is obvious: Roman is the key to finding those bonds and Marlena is his wife. Roman is shocked that they would use her to get to him. Roman asks Vaughn what the ISA plans to do to find Marlena. Vaughn says they'll put their top agents on the case. Roman says that's not good enough. Roman wants access to the ISA computer, but Vaughn says that's impossible, since Roman resigned. Then he brings up the fact that if Roman re-joins the ISA to find the bonds, then they'll get Marlena back. Roman refuses, saying he'll find Marlena on his own.

EPISODE 17: Marlena is trying to get out of her "holding cell", but the door remains locked. She looks under the fireplace, and as she's doing so, Bad Guy no.2 comes into the room, carrying a tray of tea and sandwiches, and telling her not to bother; there's no way out. Marlena decides she needs to eat, and a sensitive side to Bad Guy no. 2 emerges. She goes into a discussion about how her 3 children must be very scared and nervous. He mentions that he has 3 boys, and as he's getting out his wallet to show her pictures of them, Bad Guy no.1 storms into the room, and demands to know just what she thinks she's doing. She opens her mouth, trying to think of an answer.

Roman decides to re-join the ISA long enough to get Marlena back: he doesn't give a damn about those stupid treasury bonds. Vaughn restates that he wants to find Marlena, too, but Roman says that's a bunch of B.S. All he wants are those treasury bonds. Roman says he will find Marlena, with or without the ISA's help. As he departs, he bumps into Gillian Forrester and apologizes. he doesn't know her-yet. She goes into Vaughn's office to discuss the situation CONFIDENTIALLY.

Bad Guy no.1 says they will treat Marlena nicely if she behaves, and that she will be released when her husband decides to cooperate and hands over the bonds. Bad Guy no.2 (He's actually becoming a good guy) tells them to take it easy, and tells Marlena not to make things any harder on herself. Bad Guy no.1 orders her to sit down, which she does. The two men leave the room, and Good Guy no.2 (Formerly Bad Guy no.2, I'll call him Good Guy no.2 now) asks Bad Guy no. 1 why he had to barge in like that. Bad Guy no.1 says with a smirk that she looked a little TOO comfortable and it's better to keep her a little bit scared. Good Guy no. 2 says he doesn't think that's such a good idea. Back in the room, Marlena gets angry and throws a vase against the wall, shattering it to pieces. She is frustrated and angry. She says under her breath, "I've GOT to get out of here."

EPISODE 18: The next day, Roman is at the pier with Shawn, telling him how miserable he is over Marlena's kidnapping. Roman mentions that he went to the ISA headquarters in D.C. and that finding his wife isn't at the top of the ISA's priority list. Shawn gets angry, but Roman tells him not to worry; he'll find Marlena on his own. Shawn leaves and Roman says to himself, "I WILL find her."

Marlena is sleeping on the couch and dreaming that Roman has found her. They share a sweet reunion with plenty of kisses, until Bad Guy no.1 comes in, ready to take Marlena away. The dream turns into a nightmare. (This dream is very similar to the one Marlena had when she was in the secret room with Kristen before everything was revealed.) Good Guy no. 2 is there, trying to wake her up and assure her that she was having a nightmare.

Roman is still at the pier. As he throws a stone into the river, he keeps saying under his breath that he'll get Marlena back.

Back at his house, Abe, Shane, and Roman are there. Abe is on the phone, while Roman and Shane converse. Kayla and Patch were kidnapped as well. (I don't know how this ties into the storyline, they are just discussing it.) Abe reports that they found the car that took them away. He says he'll send a team to dust for fingerprints and hopefully they'll find something.

Marlena is still laying on the couch with a knitted blanket over her, groggier as ever. Good Guy no.2 comes in the room with breakfast. Marlena says she feels sick, and thinks she has a fever. So Good Guy no.2 goes for some help. A close-up shot shows that Marlena is sweaty.

EPISODE 19: Roman and Shane get into an argument about the ISA's loyalty and whether they give a damn about Marlena. Shane tries to convince Roman to use the ISA's resources to get Marlena back. Abe tells Roman that they put a tap on his phone so the next time the kidnappers call, they'll be prepared. But Shane counters that these guys aren't amateurs, they are professionals and will know how to handle any given situation. Roman crabs that his wife is in the middle of this mess.

A doctor comes in to check Marlena out. She claims that she is freezing, she hurts, she has a fever, etc. Good Guy no.2 nervously says he doesn't like the situation. She explains that she was in a coma prior to her wedding to Roman. Good Guy no.2 says they HAVE to get her to the hospital. He says to Marlena, "Don't worry, Mrs. Brady. We'll get help right away.

Roman is recalling his wedding day and the vows he and Marlena made to each other. He is quickly brought back to reality when he hears the doorbell ring. It's Frankie. (This is funny dialogue)

Roman: Frankie. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school?
Frankie: OK, fine, you don't need to know about the gun. (Starts to walk away)
Roman: Woooah, what gun?
Frankie: Oh, forget it. I don't want to be late for Home Ec class.
(Speaking sarcastically, starts to walk away again)
Roman: (Grabbing him by the top of his shirt) Hold on right there, Slick. Why don't you tell me about this gun. (Raising his eyebrows)

Marlena is trembling and gasping in her sleep. Outside the room, Vaughn, Gillian, the two men, and other ISA agents are discussing her situation. Vaughn asks Good Guy no.2 how long she's been sick. He answers that she seemed fine last night. A certified doctor walks in, introduces himself to Marlena, and tells her to relax. He takes her blood pressure as she turns over. He asks her questions, where is she? Who's the President of the United States? She answers ridiculously, in hopes that she'll be brought to the hospital so she can contact Roman. Outside, Vaughn declares that they have a problem on their hands. They can't afford to lose Marlena, not until they get the bonds. He orders Gillian to contact Shane over the secret phone for him. Back in Salem, in Shane's house, Shane is talking to Peachy. The phone rings, and Vaughn asks him if he had any luck convincing Roman to help the ISA. Shane disgustingly replies that Roman is having a rough time understanding what exactly the ISA's priorities are, and what they are doing, and quite frankly, Shane doesn't understand either. Vaughn thinks Shane is still crabby about Peachy being replaced as his partner. He says that decision was made in everyone's best interests. Shane scoffs to himself. After Shane makes it perfectly clear that Roman WON'T help the ISA, Vaughn hangs up and tells Gillian that Roman will need some more convincing. Maybe then he'll realize he has to help the ISA. Vaughn tells Gillian that Roman and Shane are friends and may be trading information. He says that they need someone on the inside who knows what they will be doing, so they can report back to him so they can stay one step ahead. Gillian catches on and agrees to be Shane's partner. She leaves to pack.

EPISODE 20: The doctor comes out of Marlena's room and discusses her situation with Vaughn, saying that she's extremely disoriented, has a temperature of 104, and her blood pressure is below average. Vaughn asks him to clarify what that means. The doctor says she may be having a relapse, related to the first coma that she was in a few weeks ago. Vaughn yells at the doctor not to let her die, the ISA needs her. He then glances at Marlena through the glass window.

Roman grabs Frankie by the arm and leads him inside. He asks to hear about the gun. Abe is also there, listening. Frankie replies that he's trying to do his civic duty and doesn't need lectures about skipping school. He gives the gun to Roman. Here's an inkling of some more tough-guy conversation:

Roman: Where'd you get this?
Frankie: Where I hang out.
Abe: Where's that?
Frankie: Down by the pier, say between Main and Water Street.
Roman: What were you doing down there? (suspiciously)
Frankie: WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? (getting angry)
Abe: Hey, Frankie, calm down. You're a little hot-headed, huh?
Frankie: Yeah, well. I found it down by the pier and thought you should have it.
Roman: Yeah, well, you thought right, Frankie. First important clue we have on the case so far. Done good, Frankie.
Frankie: Yeah, but will it help find Patch and Kayla?

Abe leaves to run ballistics tests on the gun. Roman is on the phone, and when he hangs up, Frankie is still there, looking at Roman and Marlena's wedding picture. Frankie says he's sorry about all that's happened, and under all the pressure, he thinks Roman is handling it pretty well. Roman asks Frankie, "Shouldn't you be back in school?" Frankie answers, "Yeah, tomorrow."

EPISODE 21: Marlena is in an ambulance, on a stretcher. No one is outside. She takes this opportunity to escape, she needs to get to Roman.

Abe comes to Roman's house with the results on the ballistics tests. The same gun was used on Britta, Gregory, and Billings. AND, it was registered in Britta's name. Roman raises his eyebrows and says that is interesting. After Abe leaves, Roman leans up against the door and mutters, "Too many unanswered questions." The phone rings. Roman hesitates to answer it, but finally does. It's Marlena. She found a pay phone after she escaped from the ambulance. Roman says they are tracing the call and that he'll get her home soon. Marlena tells him to hurry. The two men, Bad Guy no. 1 and Good Guy no.2, come up from behind, grab Marlena's mouth and Bad Guy no.1 tells Roman on the phone that his wife's "a little tied up." He laughs, and then hangs up. When it comes to Marlena's safety, Roman will do ANYTHING.

Roman calls Vaughn tells him Marlena called. Vaughn plays dumb and asks where she's being held. Roman answers he doesn't know. Roman says they traced the call and it was near Washington D.C. and he's going to check it out. Vaughn panics, but doesn't let on to Roman. Roman orders Vaughn to intercept the kidnappers and bring her home. Vaughn agrees, leaving his desk.

Vaughn later sees Marlena in the room through the window, and says to himself, with a chuckle,"Yes, Roman. I'll let you know when I find her." He also has an evil grin on his face.

Eugene comes home with Carrie and Roman gives her a hug, saying he missed her. Roman tells Eugene about the call he got from Marlena. Carrie starts to cry and say she wants Marlena back. Roman gives her a hug.

Marlena is in the same room. Marlena tries to convince Good Guy no.2 to help her, but he says he's got his orders, and if he doesn't obey them, harm will come to him and his family. Marlena calls him by name, his name is Clark. (Now I don't have to call him Good Guy no.2, I can call him by Clark) Marlena is obviously frightened. Outside, Vaughn says he'll call Roman to express his regret in not being able to locate Marlena, and that things couldn't be going better.

Roman is talking to Shane on the phone about his conversation with Marlena. Shane says to put a 50-mile radius around the phone booth that she called from. While Eugene and Carrie are talking, Roman receives a call from Vaughn, saying they weren't able to find her. Roman is furious. He tells Vaughn he'll find Marlena himself, and hangs up. Roman tells Carrie he'll be leaving town for a while.

EPISODE 22: Bad Guy no.1 brings in breakfast to Marlena and they have a little spat. He tells her to eat her breakfast and stop making so much noise. Marlena spits that she is tired of his instructions and kicks the tray in his face, splattering him with pancake syrup and orange juice. (Way to go, Marlena!) Bad Guy no. 1 goes outside the room to clean off, and Vaughn tells him and Clark that was a gutsy move for Marlena to make. He asks Clark to go in there to calm down Marlena. Bad Guy no.1 asks why he can't do that. Vaughn answers that Marlena seems to respond better to Clark and likes him better. Clark gives a little smile and heads into the room.

Roman goes to Shane's house and begs him to get some information from the ISA computer about these treasury bonds. He requests some aerial photographs, but Shane says they are classified and belong to the government. Seeing how desperate Roman is, Shane makes an exception and leads Roman to the ISA computer.

Roman sees Hope at Shenanigan's and sit at a table to discuss Marlena's situation. Roman tells Hope about the conversation he had with Marlena earlier. Hope listens intently. Roman tells Hope about a plan to go to Maryland to try and find the estate where Marlena is being held captive.

They'll pose as a young couple looking for a house and they'll check out some real estate agencies. They leave the restaurant. Gillian is eating at the next table and overheard their conversation. She goes to the pay phone to call Vaughn and tell him about Roman and Hope's plan. When Vaughn hangs up, he says to himself that he wishes Roman would put his energies into finding "those bloody treasury bonds" instead of hopelessly trying to find his wife.

EPISODE 23: Hope and Roman are in Maryland, consulting with a real estate agent. They are both wearing glasses and look very studious. They talk and act the part of a husband and a wife. They mention they are interested in estates in the area. They get a lead on a stone mansion in Virginia, so they make up an excuse, and hustle out of there to investigate.

Gillian is talking to Vaughn on the phone, and Vaughn insists that they move Marlena to a different location in order to stay one step ahead of Roman Brady.

Hope and Roman arrive at the estate and Roman picks the lock. Hope finds it odd that there are no security guards around if they are indeed holding Marlena there. They both whip out guns, open the door, and look around.

Clarke and Bad Guy no.1 are tying handkerchiefs around Marlena's eyes and mouth, preparing to move her. Her hands are also tied behind her back. Bad Guy no. 1 flips her over his shoulder and they leave to relocate her. She leaves behind a ring.

Roman and Hope arrive in the dark room, their guns drawn. Roman switches the light on. Roman looks around and they are about to leave when Roman notices Marlena's wedding ring. He says he'll find Marlena.

Later, Roman is in the hotel room, staring at her ring. he begins to cry, and says he'll get Marlena back, no matter the cost.

EPISODE 24: Marlena and Clarke are sitting in a car. Marlena continues to ask where she's going, how long she will be there, etc. Looking at a map, Clarke replies that they are taking her somewhere where she'll be safe and keep her there until Roman finds those treasury bonds. Marlena continues to complain and Clarke snaps at her that he doesn't make the rules; he just follows them. He points out that Marlena is a nice person, but he can't do anything to help her because if he disobeys orders, who knows what will happen to him and his family. Marlena demands that he let her go. Clarke says that's impossible. Marlena plays on the concept of family and them needing her. Clarke says the discussion is over; drop the matter entirely. Marlena is clearly frustrated by this situation. Suddenly, Clarke has a change of heart and says that he is going to give her an opportunity to escape, without him seeing her, so it'll look like she did it all on her own. As a ploy, he SAYS he's going to go check under the hood of the car and he won't be long, thus giving Marlena a chance to escape. As soon as he opens the hood, Marlena quietly climbs out of the car and goes to the bushes to hide. He is aware that she escaped, he hopes the ploy works. Marlena thanks Clarke under her breath for letting her escape. Now she just needs to find a phone. Clarke drives away.

Hope checks out the real estate records and drops by Roman's hotel room to tell him her findings: the house that was holding Marlena captive hasn't been rented or owned for the past ten years. Roman is puzzled. Roman is a true cop, wearing his shoulder holster, complete with a gun, true cop attire. Roman voices his suspicions to Hope of how Marlena's captors got into the house; if they had a key or if they broke in.

Next scene is at a gas station by the side of the road. A visitor is there, an elderly man wearing a cap, suspenders, and a flannel shirt. Marlena strikes up a conversation with him and asks if he has change so she can make a call to Abe or Roman. She calls Abe and asks if he can find Roman. She is puzzled when he says that Roman is in Maryland; he got a lead on her. Too much static enters the phone and Marlena can't hear a word that Abe is saying. But before she hangs up, she loudly gives Abe directions as to where she is and asks him to come get her, to please hurry. She hopes he heard.

Hope tells Roman to talk to the ISA to get some of his questions answered. Roman refuses, in an annoyed tone. Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. It's Vaughn. He tells Roman that Abe Carver contacted him, reporting that Marlena had contacted HIM. Roman is excited, but also calm, asking for details. Vaughn says that Marlena is fine and offers to take Roman to the scene of where she called from, but Roman opts to go with Hope. After Vaughn leaves, Roman puts on his leather jacket, Hope grabs her purse, and they leave.

The elderly man is going to stay with Marlena until her friends arrive.(Abe, Roman, whoever.) Marlena goes to the washroom to clean up. The man takes a sip of his cocoa and sees car headlights approaching. Bad Guy no.1 and Clarke get out of the car and question the man. He says that she's in the bathroom. (Clarke DID purposely let Marlena go, but to keep harm from coming to him or his family, he's making it look like she escaped on her own. Pretty clever, Clarke.) Bad Guy no. 1 gets tough and says they need to catch her because "she escaped from a mental hospital." Marlena comes out of the washroom and comes face to face with her captors. She mutters, "Oh, no." Bad Guy no. 1 grabs her and takes her to the car. She screams for help, but the elderly man, believing that she's actually from a mental hospital, just believes that she is having hallucinations, and does nothing. Later, in the car, Bad Guy no. 1 is sleeping in the back, while Clarke is driving and Marlena is in the front seat, with a handkerchief around her mouth. He removes it and apologizes to Marlena, he thought her escape would work. He sounds genuine. Marlena says she appreciates him giving her the opportunity. Marlena also asks what changed his mind to let her escape. He responds that they wanted to give her the chance to escape because she doesn't deserve to be in this position, but if Roman doesn't find those bonds, they're both in BIG trouble.

Roman and Hope reach the gas station, and a neighbor of the gas station agrees to answer any questions they may have. He says that Marlena was there, made a couple of calls, then two guys drove up and took her away. When Roman asked about Marlena, he said, "You mean that sick lady? I'm glad they took her back to the mental institution." Roman is confused, but then realizes that they made up a story to keep one step ahead of him. He gives the license plate number to Roman, because the scene looked pretty fishy, those two men coming to get her. Roman thanks the man for all his help, and both he and Hope leave.

EPISODE 25: Roman and Hope don their disguises as husband and wife and do a little bit more research. Wearing glasses, they knock on the door, and a short, stout man answers. They introduce themselves, using their aliases. They tracked down the house, using the license plate of the car, and are hoping to find Marlena. Hope goes to use the bathroom in their house, hoping to find a clue as to where Marlena is. The man and Roman go outside to check out the car. The man claims the car hasn't been used or moved in years. He heads back inside. Roman and Hope discuss how they could have been so wrong. Hope further explains that she searched the house fully and couldn't find ANYTHING. They decide to return to Salem and think of a new strategy.

Roman and Hope are on the plane, about to take off, and Roman voices his suspicion to her that he thinks he's being outmaneuvered at each turn, that someone knows every move that he's making. (Little does he know that Gillian is spying on him and reporting back to Vaughn.) He still is puzzled, but after looking at Marlena's wedding ring, says it's always smart to trust your instincts. Just then, a flight attendant delivers a mysterious envelope to Roman, and it says that "they still have Marlena and haven't harmed her yet, but if Roman doesn't find those bonds, Marlena will be harmed." Roman quickly leaves the plane to go see who left him this envelope, but comes back not knowing. He says to Hope that his suspicion is confirmed: Someone IS watching him. The plane takes off.

They arrive back at the loft, and as soon as they shut the door and turn around, they see Patch with a bag, obviously in a hurry, with his mouth open. The first words out of Roman's mouth are, "Where's Kayla? What'd you do with my sister?" Patch holds up his hands and says she's all right, really. Then Roman and Patch get into their usual brawl, with Patch throwing the first punch. Just then, Kayla arrives and asks what's going on. As soon as she enters, Roman stops fighting and just stares at her. Patch takes this opportunity to punch him in the gut. (Tsk, tsk) Kayla assures Roman that she is safe with Patch. Roman leaves, declaring that he doesn't think Kayla could EVER be safe with Patch.

Marlena is in another room, and Clarke enters. He opens the window. Marlena eyes it, but Clarke knows what she's up to and says that the window is rigged to only open a small amount so she can't escape. Marlena says that she would never crawl out. After he leaves, Marlena goes to the desk, grabs a pencil and a paper, writes a note for help, and drops the note out the window, hoping that someone will find it and help her. Later, Clarke comes back into the room and brings a phone. Clarke reveals that their security saw her drop that note out of the window and one of their men picked it up.

EPISODE 26: Roman is talking to Kayla at the police station and is questioning her involvement with Patch. She says he is her friend, but Roman suspects there is something more. Roman gets hostile with her, and Kayla storms out, saying she is going to help Patch no matter what. Roman apologizes, going after her, but then the phone rings. It's Marlena.

For caution, Clarke is holding a gun to Marlena while she speaks to Roman. Marlena tells Roman to get the bonds quick because she wants to come home. There's a knock at the door, Clarke leaves Marlena to answer it, and Marlena blurts out to Roman that Orpheus is the top man, he's behind this whole mess. Clarke then hangs up the phone and tells Marlena she fell into their trap; they wanted her to name Orpheus. Marlena is shocked and scared, and after Clarke leaves, throws a vase at the wall.

Roman slams down the phone, as Shane and Abe enter and inquire about his conversation with Marlena. He mentions Orpheus, and Shane is stunned. He says Orpheus was an ISA agent, but now is a hired assassin. Roman doesn't recall anyone by the name of Orpheus, but Shane says if he did remember him, he'd find those bonds FAST. Shane goes into an explanation, hoping to jog Roman's memory, saying that Roman and Orpheus were on a top-secret mission for the ISA in 1977, and Orpheus was successful in saving lives, but then something happened and he went bonkers, but they don't know WHAT happened. Roman is puzzled, but still can't remember who Orpheus is. Shane calls the ISA.

Clarke reports to Vaughn that Marlena fell into the trap, telling her husband that Orpheus is behind this whole mess.

Roman is still at the police station, reaches into his pocket, and pulls out Marlena's wedding ring. He recalls their wedding and their reciting of the poem, "This is the True Season of Love" by Goethe, and their vows. Marlena is thinking about the same thing, with tears streaming down her face. She lays down on the bed.

EPISODE 27: Clarke calls Roman and urges him to find those treasury bonds; he's spending too much time trying to find his wife. A new guy, Ralph (who later played Jericho, Shane's ISA "friend.") is holding a gun to Marlena while she talks to Roman on the phone. Clarke tells Roman to find those bonds. Marlena gets to talk to Roman, she says she loves him. Then the phone is taken away from her. Ralph tells Roman to meet them at the small strip where the airport is, where the helicopters land; he'll see Marlena then. He rushes out the door, but bumps into Gillian. She wishes him luck.

Roman is at Shane's house, thanking him for his help. He leaves for the airport.

With music playing, they show a rare "real" outdoors scene where they show both Roman driving to the airport and Marlena approaching the runway with her captor. Roman gets out of his car and sees a helicopter flying towards him, and knowing it has Marlena inside, his eyes get misty and he places his hands on his hips. As soon as he sees Marlena, he touches his wedding ring. When she sees that, she does the same. Roman rechecks his gun in his boot, just in case. The plane is shown landing on the runway. As soon as the plane stops, Marlena climbs out and exchanges meaningful glances with Roman. Roman is relieved to see that she is OK. Roman pops a breath mint, no doubt hoping for a kiss. He begins walking towards her, but Marlena warns him that her captors can hear every word they say to each other. As Roman tries to get a hug from Marlena, she cautions him to not step any closer, but he is puzzled. She explains that she is armed with explosives. Marlena slowly opens her vest to reveal a timer and six bombs waiting to detonate. It's strapped around her waist. ( Like that scene in "SPEED.") Roman can't believe that they would stoop THIS low. They declare their love for one another and carefully kiss. Roman secretly plants a bug on Marlena so he can track down where they are taking her. She goes back to the helicopter and climbs in.

EPISODE 28: The helicopter takes off. She questions the pilot, Clarke, where they are going. At Roman's house, he and Hope are listening to the monitor, hoping to find out where Marlena is going. But both he and Hope are stunned when Clarke reveals on the monitor that he KNOWS a bug was planted on Marlena. Another dead end. Roman is furious when Clarke compliments him on a real cute plan, it almost worked. Roman is near tears.

At the house later, Hope arrives with a blown-up picture of Bo's tattoo, the one he got with Steve and Britta in Stockholm. Roman found out a clue to finding the bonds and it involves the three tattoos. He gives a woman named Llana, who was Gregory's wife, a call. But she refuses to talk to him. Llana worked at the tattoo parlor where the three of them got tattoos. So they enlist Patch's help, and he's hanging out at the pier. Hope tells Patch that each time Roman tries to call llana, she says she doesn't want to talk to him; she holds him responsible for her husband's death. And she hangs up on him. Patch snidely remarks he can't imagine why. Hope begs him to help and he agrees.

At the loft, Patch got through to Llana. He explains his purpose for calling, to help him, Roman, and Hope get the treasury bonds. Patch instructs her to get the book out that displayed the tattoos that each of them received and to burn the photos because someone may come looking for them. Patch voices his concern for Llana, that he doesn't like the fact that she's alone there. He lastly tells her that they will arrive in Stockholm soon and will come to see her.

A man in a leather coat enters the tattoo parlor and demands the "three knives," which are pictures of the tattoos. Llana is frightened.

EPISODE 29: Roman is at Shane's house discussing his trip with Shane, and Shane says he's obligated to tell Chief Vaughn and Gillian about this trip. Shane questions why Bo isn't heavily involved. After all, he's a part of this. Roman says sarcastically that Bo's big on loyalty to his "goon daddy" Victor. Furthermore, Roman wants to pull off this mission on his own. (Fashion critique; Shane is wearing an awful plaid shirt with a tie, it makes him look rather dowdy.)

Roman is on the plane with Hope and Patch and says that the value of Marlena's life doesn't seem very important to the ISA. And he brings up the fact that he doesn't trust Bo at all.

Hope, Roman, and Patch arrive at the tattoo parlor in Stockholm. It's dark and foggy. There is a red neon light just outside the parlor that says "Tattoos." Roman tentatively knocks on the door, but no one answers. They decide to sneak in the back way. As they are picking the lock, they see a pool of blood, Llana has been murdered. Also, Roman's name has been spelt out in blood. Patch tries to convince Roman that they need to get out of there before the cops arrive and arrest THEM for the murder of Llana. But Roman isn't budging; he wants answers. Hope and Steve go over to a loose binder and realize it's the one that had the pics of the tattoos Bo, Britta, and Patch got. But the pages are ripped out. Someone beat them to it. (In plain language, this means that the other party, which is Victor and Orpheus, are getting closer to finding the bonds, and if Roman and the crew don't get them first, Roman will never see Marlena again.) Roman bets that this leads back to Orpheus. Patch raises his eyebrow and says,"Or someone else," meaning Kiriakis. Hope gets uncomfortable and insists that Bo would never tell Victor that they were coming so his men could get their hands on the tattoo drawings. They get into a heated argument, and Roman repeats that he doesn't trust Bo. Roman wants to wipe the blood up and make sure none of his fingerprints are on the weapon, but it's too late: the Swedish police arrive and ask no one to move, to put their hands up. The policeman gives Roman a chance to explain, and Roman says he's working with the ISA. The cop demands some I.D. The cop connects the I.D. with the name spelt out in blood on the floor. They are all taken to the police station; Roman arrested for murder and Hope and Patch for being accomplices. The cop searches all three for weapons and Patch takes the opportunity to punch him and he and Hope get away. they get as far as the outside of the parlor. Patch gets shot in the stomach. Roman stays inside and fights the officer, declaring that he's innocent. Another officer arrives and they take him to the jail.

Hope is helping Steve, who was seriously wounded. Hidden, they witness the police taking Roman to the police station.

EPISODE 30: Roman is in a cell. The guard lets in a man named Captain Patterson. Roman mutters that they're FINALLY getting someone involved with authority. Patterson doubts that Roman is a cop, much less a worker for the ISA since he didn't have his credentials with him. Roman explains, saying he tried to discuss that with one of the "Swedish bozos,"but of course, they wouldn't listen. The first question Patterson asks Roman is why he killed Llana. Roman tries to discuss the situation and the circumstances beforehand, but Patterson keeps cutting him off with more questions. It's a very frustrating conversation. Patterson is interrogating Roman, and Roman is getting angry, so Patterson leaves.

Hope sneaks into the cell. She gives Roman an update on Patch, saying he lost a lot of blood due to his gunshot wound. Kayla is taking care of him. Roman demands that Kayla be sent home; it's too dangerous here. Switching the topic, saying she can only deal with one Brady at a time, Hope asks why they are still holding Roman there. Roman says angrily that they still think he killed Llana, despite what really happened. Hope asks about the ISA, and Roman says he called Chief Vaughn and Shane and left a message, but he doubts they will help him get out. Roman says the ONLY way he can get out of that "hellhole" is if Shane can come and clear him, verifying that he actually does work for the ISA. As Hope leaves to call him, Roman warns her to be careful.

Hope calls Bo, fills him in on what happened in Sweden, Llana's death, and Roman's arrest. Since Victor is standing right by Bo while he's speaking to Hope, Bo talks as if the person on the other end is a business associate to keep everything top-secret. Hope instructs Bo to call Shane and send him over to get Roman out of this mess.

Roman meets with Patterson again, and they get into another argument. Patterson reports they have an eye-witness to prove that Roman killed Llana. Roman replies, "BULL!" It turns into a shouting match. Patterson leaves, and Shane arrives to get Roman out. (Don't you miss the days when John was all macho man and tough instead of these days, besides dealing with Stefano, he's just a softie, wanting to work out problems?)

EPISODE 31: Kayla, Patch, Hope, and Roman are still in Stockholm. They are in a dark room, developing pictures, hoping to recognize a person in a picture who might have killed Llana. Right off the bat, Roman and Patch get into one of their typical arguments. Patch is moving the pictures around in the fluid with tongs and Roman is watching anxiously. Hope and Kayla are watching, periodically looking at an instructional manual:

Roman: Are you sure you know what you're doing, Johnson?
Patch: Hey, dude, would you like to take over here? (in an aggravated tone)
Roman: That might not be such a bad idea, YEAH!
Hope: Stop it! Oh my gosh. Hold the paper still, please.
Kayla: And stop badgering each other, honestly.
Roman: I just don't want anything going wrong.
Patch: Neither do I.

Steve suddenly develops a picture of a bald man with a mustache, but it is no one they recognize.

Marlena is in her hotel room when a peasant woman comes in, delivering wood for the fire. Marlena begs for her help, asking either to talk to her husband or Clarke, but the woman is unresponsive. She leaves the room. Marlena walks over to the fireplace and spots a newspaper. She figures out that she is in Stockholm.

Patch removes the paper from the liquid, but the person with a mustache is unrecognizable because the picture starts to fade. The next photo does, too, the two pictures are blurry. Hope doesn't understand why they turned out that way; they have all the right supplies. Here's some more cheerful dialogue between the two macho men:

Roman: Well, obviously, someone screwed up something along the line.
Patch: (looking at Roman) You wouldn't be talking about me, would ya, dude? ( sarcastically)
Hope: Do you think maybe you weren't copying the negative onto the photograph paper correctly? Maybe you moved it around.
Patch: (Such a cute moment, that shows Steve and Kayla are head over heels for each other) Well, if that's true, it's because Sweetness here was breathing in my ear.
(Kayla's cheeks turn red in embarrassment, she bites her lip, and looks to the floor.)

They try to develop more pictures. Patch thinks whoever killed Llana is working for Kiriakis. Roman says he doesn't care who it is, as long as it leads him to Marlena.

Marlena is pacing back and forth, fingering the newspaper and looking off into space.(She still does this today!) She crumples the newspaper to throw into the fire and comes across a picture in the paper of the cops leading Roman to jail. Marlena realizes that Roman is also in Stockholm and vows to find HIM. As an escape plan, she crushes some of her medication, and puts in the tea cup and pours some tea. She invites the peasant woman for tea and gives her that tea cup. The woman passes out, and Marlena puts on her outfit and escapes.

EPISODE 32: Patch pulls more pictures from the water. They turn out clearly, and the four of them hang them up on a clothesline to see if anyone recognizes anyone. Roman is shocked when he reaches a picture. It's Orpheus. Roman says this is their man, this is the guy who killed Llana. They decide to pack everything up and head back to Salem.

Marlena is disguised as the peasant woman and leaves her own hotel room with a tray of food. The guard is falling asleep, nodding off, and doesn't even notice. Marlena hesitantly goes for it.

Bo and Hope are talking on the phone and realize that Orpheus may be working for Kiriakis. Bo decides to put a bug on Victor's phone so he can listen in on all of Victor's conversations. He hopes to solve this once and for all.

Marlena is at a pay phone, but doesn't understand a word of Swedish. She does manage to track down Roman's hotel room, but when she finally arrives there, the maid says he's left for the airport to go home. Marlena heads to the airport.

Roman senses that Marlena is nearby at the airport, but Hope says they'll miss their plane if they don't leave now. They go down the runway. Just then, Marlena appears, excited that she might see her husband, but Bad Guy no.1 sneaks up behind her, grabs her, and drags her away.

Orpheus calls Victor, and since Bo put a bug on his phone, he can hear every word, and concludes that Orpheus is indeed working for Victor. Victor says they HAVE to meet.

Marlena is back in her room, and Clarke comes through the door, saying he's going to take care of her. Clarke says gently that she'd better eat, but she refuses, tipping over a tray of carrots and broccoli. She is near tears. She wants to go home.

EPISODE 33: Gillian is having second thoughts about this whole kidnapping scheme and voices her opinion to Vaughn, who says they have no choice. Gillian says there HAS to be another way to get the bonds. Vaughn gets hostile with Gillian, and there is a loud argument. Just then, Roman arrives at his office. He shows Vaughn the photo of Orpheus, and Vaughn confirms that it IS Orpheus. Roman requests the file on Orpheus so he can get somewhat of an idea of what Orpheus's background was and look for a possible reason why he snapped. Vaughn says he cannot do that. It's against policy. Roman gets furious, grabs Vaughn by the collar, slams him up against the wall, and demands that he get the file-or else. Vaughn changes the subject and says he should put his efforts into getting the bonds. Then the phone rings; it's Clarke. He reports that Marlena STILL won't eat anything, but Vaughn says not to force-feed her. Since Roman is present, Vaughn has to cut him off.

While Clarke is in the hallway, Marlena tries to call Roman, but the phone isn't working. She is desperate and nothing is working! She finally gets a hold of Vaughn, and she tells him where she is and to get Roman to come and get her. Vaughn smirks and tells her to sit tight.

Vaughn tells Roman the files on Orpheus won't be of any help. Roman says he'll get the damn bonds and find Marlena himself.

Marlena tells Clarke that she is going to start cooperating, and Clarke says she made the right choice. Later, Clarke calls Vaughn to report that Marlena is going to cooperate.

EPISODE 34: Gillian flies back to Salem with Roman. She reassures him that she's sure that Marlena is fine. They discuss Orpheus a little bit, but Gillian says she didn't know him all that well. They decide that together they'll find the bonds.

Back in Salem, Roman and Shawn arrive at the fish market and Roman asks Hope what's up. She replies that Steve was beat up in the alley and that she has a hunch that it was Orpheus's men. Roman heads over to Steve's apartment, beneath Shenanigan's. He waltzes right in, and Patch yells at him to wipe his feet, but Roman doesn't answer, telling him to knock off the attitude. More macho men dialogue:

Roman: I want to know when you were going to tell me that you got your head kicked in by a couple of goons.
Patch: Gee, Roman, I didn't know you cared.

Patch says that no one got any information, no one saw anything. Roman demands to know from now on that when something like this happens, he wants to know about it. Patch insists that he can take care of himself, but Roman thinks Patch is way in over his head. He leaves.

Next stop on Roman's visits, Gillian's. He lets her know that Orpheus's men beat up Patch and they need to catch this Orpheus character PRONTO, because he's in Salem. Roman brought along all the clues he has relating to the bonds, and he and Gillian both sit down, hoping to make sense of them. But Roman thinks it's all mumbo jumbo. He gets angry that Marlena's life is on the line, and it's all because he can't remember. Gillian promises that sooner or later, his memories will come to him, but he doubts they will. After he leaves, Gillian calls Vaughn and gives him the rundown on Roman's visit. After she hangs up, she looks at pictures of the three tattoos.

Orpheus is in a swivel chair, fingering a photo of Patch. He remarks to himself that he'll do anything to get the clues, even if it means killing Steve Johnson.

EPISODE 35: When Roman arrives home from Gillian's, he finds Carrie sitting in a chair, with a wedding photo of her, Roman, and Marlena is her arms. She looks at him and has tears in her eyes. She has a small frown on her face. Carrie says she's scared and asks what will happen if Marlena never comes back. Roman assures her that they WILL find her and bring her home soon. They head over to the couch and Carrie says she wishes Roman didn't have a job that was so dangerous. Roman gives Carrie a hug and tells her he quit the ISA. (Carrie, you can have a mature conversation with) Roman says that when they get Marlena back, they'll be a family again. Then the doorbell rings. It's Chief Vaughn. Vaughn says that Carrie is a lovely little girl, but they need to discuss business, so Carrie goes upstairs. Vaughn reports that Marlena contacted him a week ago, and Roman is downright furious that they didn't tell him. But Vaughn changes the subject, saying that Orpheus is a clever one, and if they want to beat him at his own game, they need to be as cold, calculating, and unemotional as he is. Roman gets an idea and goes to Shane's.

He arrives at Shane's house, and Shane is with Gillian in the secret ISA room, where all the surveillance and computer equipment is. Roman reviews with them everything that they know so far and manages to hatch a plan. He says if they are going to nail this guy and have him lead them to Marlena, they need bait, and he suggests Patch Johnson. He tells Gillian to put the word out to the ISA that Patch Johnson is "available for business." Roman leaves for the pier to find Patch and get the ball rolling.

At the pier, Roman is there, looking for Patch, and suddenly, Patch emerges from the shadows, with a tough-guy look on his face. Roman discusses the plan with him, and Patch agrees to do it, he'll be the bait.

Roman: You're making the right move, Patch.
Patch: I said I'd do it, I didn't say I wanted to talk about it. Just tell me where you want me to be and when.

Roman says this whole thing will go down in an hour, at midnight on pier 17. Roman is confident that Orpheus will show, but Patch is skeptical. Roman says to himself that he will get his wife back tonight.

Kayla is knocking at the door of Steve's apartment, loudly asking if he is there. The door is unlocked, so she enters his room, scanning the place. As she walks down the steps, thinking that he is there, apologizes for something, and lets out a shriek when a hand appears out of nowhere, grabbing and covering her mouth.

Roman and Patch are still at the pier, but no one has shown. Patch questions Roman if he's sure this plan will work, if it's fool-proof. Roman insists it will, they just need to give Orpheus a little more time, he's GOT to show.

Kayla makes noise and moves away, getting a clear look at who is there with her. Kayla is shocked. (Exact dialogue)

Kayla: You're.......
Orpheus: That's right, I'm Orpheus. Well, it seems that both you and I are looking for your friend, Steve.
Kayla: He's not here.
Orpheus: (with a chuckle) Yes, I can see that. But I think I stumbled onto something better, and now I know the perfect way to get him.

Kayla gets uncomfortable and starts to leave, but Orpheus grabs her arm, and takes out a gun, saying that she's leaving all right, but she's leaving with an escort. They leave Steve's apartment.

Roman is getting hysterical, saying that Orpheus will come, he has to, and that Steve is the only thing standing in his way of getting Marlena back. He grabs Patch by the collar, saying that Patch doesn't give a damn about anyone besides himself. Patch tries to get him to face reality; he's not going to get Marlena back tonight, he didn't take the bait. Roman still refuses to believe that. Roman repeatedly keeps saying that Orpheus will come, so Patch says, fine, Roman can wait for him, because he's out of here. Roman and Patch get into a fistfight. Patch finally gets Roman in a shoulder-hold, and says again that Orpheus is not coming. Roman calms down and starts to cry. Patch says he'll do everything he can to get Marlena back, but they won't get her back tonight. Roman is left standing on the pier, while Patch leaves to head back to his apartment.

EPISODE 36: Shane and Gillian are on the pier and ask Roman, "What the bloody hell's going on?" Roman has a better grip on the situation and says that Orpheus isn't coming. Shane apologizes that he wasn't here earlier, and gives Gillian a cold stare, saying that he wasn't even informed that Patch had agreed to the plan. Shane and Gillian start to argue about their ISA duties. Shane asks where Patch is, and Roman says he split. Shane tells Roman to go talk to Patch to see if he'd ever consider doing something like this again. Roman agrees and heads to Patch's.

Roman arrives at Patch's apartment and wants to discuss what went wrong at the pier. Patch is wearing a brown button-down shirt, but it's hanging open. Patch visibly has been crying and still has tears in his eyes. Patch says he can't think about that, he has other things on his mind. Roman catches on and figures that Orpheus must have contacted him, and vows that together, they'll smoke this guy out. Patch is fed up and yells out, "We don't have to smoke him out, he's already out and he's got Kayla!" He starts to get tears in his eyes once again. Roman is shocked and Patch goes on to say that Orpheus indeed did contact him, but put Kayla on the phone first. Roman asks how he ever got his hands on Kayla. Patch explains that Orpheus was here, Kayla showed up, and he took off with her. Roman gets angry and asks why Kayla was here, and Patch shouts back,"I didn't invite her here, dude! If we'd spent a little less time on the pier, I might have been here when all this happened!" Roman and Patch argue about Orpheus wants him to do. (Roman = Pro, do it/ Patch = Con, don't do it) Patch declares he got her into this mess and he's going to get her out of this. Roman wants to help rescue Kayla and possibly Marlena, but Patch firmly says he works alone. Roman leaves, but says if anything happens to Kayla or Marlena, he's holding him responsible. It's obvious that Patch is trying to stay tough, but can't help show his sensitive side and cries when he thinks of Kayla with that evil man.

EPISODE 37: It's a new day, full of arguing and adventure. Roman shows up at Patch's early, and tells him that Hope found out where Orpheus is holding Kayla. Patch gets physical and demands to know where; A yacht in the harbor. Roman wants to help, but Patch, pointing his finger, says he works alone. Then the phone rings. Roman and Steve look at each other, and Steve answers it. It's Orpheus, taunting Steve with the fact that he has Kayla. Patch gets impatient, telling Orpheus that he wants to get his hands on him. Orpheus tells Patch that a man will be waiting for him on the pier. At Roman's urging, Patch asks where Marlena Brady is, but Orpheus hangs up. These two, Steve and Roman are terribly frustrated. Roman desperately wants to find Marlena, and Steve, Kayla. Roman says to meet this guy, but Patch refuses, getting out a map of the harbor. Steve then flips a switchblade and says that he's going to handle this HIS way.

Patch meets this guy on the pier, and gets checked for weapons, but as they leave, and they turn around, we see it's NOT Patch, it's Roman! Roman wants to get on the yacht and save Marlena, if she's there.

Meanwhile, Patch is in the river, swimming to the yacht where Kayla is being held captive. Roman and the man are in a boat and Roman asks where the yacht is. The two men get into a fistfight, and Roman is knocked out. The man then gets on a walkie-talkie with Orpheus, who orders him to get a snapshot of the tattoo, left chest, over the heart, then finish him off and dump him in the river. Kayla is scared, and jumps up in a panic, saying he can't do that. Orpheus shoves her, and tells her to sit down or she'll be next.

Patch is swimming closer to the yacht.

Roman recovers and starts to punch the man, and demands that he lead him to Marlena or the knife he has is going to go right in his ear. Roman restarts the boat, and they move. The man points to a yacht, and while Roman is looking, takes the opportunity to throw him overboard into the river, flips out a gun, and spray him with bullets.

Just then, Patch is with Kayla on the yacht, and he has his arms around her. Once they hear gunfire, panic that Roman has been shot. Kayla starts to cry, but Steve says they have to get out of there before Orpheus arrives. As they head for the door, Orpheus appears with a loaded gun, saying they're not going ANYWHERE. Steve punches Orpheus, and both he and Kayla escape, and jump into the river. But Orpheus recovers in time, and shoots at them. Roman is seen with a bloody nose, floating in the river.

Kayla starts crying, saying she can't swim because her side hurts. (She must have gotten wounded from Orpheus's gun.) Patch swims to her and grabs her, saying he won't leave her. She goes underwater a few times, and Patch begs her that she has to make it, she just has to. He is swimming backwards with Kayla facing the same way. She gets hysterical, splashing around, looking for any sight of Roman, and yelling out for him.

Kayla looks very exhausted, very close to passing out, and appears limp. (My guess is that she's losing a lot of blood.) But she does have enough strength to turn around to Patch and hug him, her eyes closed. (Such a cute moment, they are cheek to cheek. Boy, are their feelings evident here, very obvious!) They climb onto the pier, where they meet up with Shane and Gillian, and fill them in about their plan to get Steve's tattoo and Roman's quest to find Marlena. Kayla screams, spotting a man in the river who might be Roman. Shane dives into the river to bring him to safety. Kayla turns to Steve, and he hugs her tightly, running his fingers through her hair. He also gives her a kiss on the forehead. (sigh)

Shane swims to Roman and carries him to safety. Kayla notices that he is losing a lot of blood, and Gillian offers her handkerchief to help stop it. They take Roman to the hospital.

EPISODE 38: Marlena is looking out the window, and goes to sit on the bed. There she imagines that Roman is there with her and they kiss. In her dream, they both declare how good it is to hold each other again. But reality sets in when Clarke knocks on the door. Marlena tells Clarke that she contacted Chief Vaughn and asked him to come get her, but he hasn't. Marlena repeats that she is worried about her children and husband. She gets cranky. Marlena paces the room and says she was tricked, the ISA isn't coming to get her. Marlena praises Clarke for being someone decent to talk to. Clarke apologizes for what Marlena is going through. Marlena requests a phone call to make sure her children are all right, but Clarke says that's not possible. Marlena begs him, and Clarke scurries out the room, saying he'll see what he can do.

Clarke is talking to Chief Vaughn on the phone, saying that Marlena has a right to make that phone call. Vaughn reminds him of his authority and that HE'S the one that gives the orders. Vaughn hangs up on Clarke. Clarke goes back into the room to see Marlena, bringing her pictures of her family and of her and Roman. She is grateful, and Clarke tells her they can make one call to Roman at the pay phone outside because the phones are tapped. He opens the window, and he and Marlena climb out. Clarke asks if he can trust Marlena not to do anything stupid. Marlena says he can.

Marlena is trying to get a hold of Roman, but he's not there. Clarke gets nervous and says they need to get back in the room.

Marlena is in her robe, gazing at the pictures Clarke gave her earlier, and sits down by the fire. At the same time, Roman is on the pier, looking off into the distance, with a sad look on his face.

EPISODE 39: Kayla and Steve are at Shane's house, and Steve is sipping a cup of tea. They exchange some cute banter, and Roman and Hope enter. Hope gives Kayla a hug, and Roman does the same. The four of them are there to meet Shane to discuss the case.

Hope: Steve, Roman told me how you saved Kayla. I must say, it was pretty brave of you.
Steve: Yeah, well, I'm expecting a ticker-tape parade and a boulevard named after me. Unless you got a better idea, Sweet thing.
Hope: Has anyone told you how hopeless you really are?
Kayla: I tell him all the time, just makes him worse!
Roman: What you did was pretty brave, Patch, but I think you took a major risk out there.
Steve: Oh, come on! I saved your little sister, didn't I?
Roman: Yeah, well, what if you weren't so lucky? You could have blown everything! Now, from now on we're going to be working together, and I don't want to hear.......
Hope: Wait a minute, where's Shane? I thought we were meeting him here.
Steve: Well, he and Miss Crumpets (Gillian) went out earlier, said they'd be back soon.

Roman curses and bemoans the fact that Orpheus has Marlena and that he's probably a hundred miles away by now. While he and Hope bicker, Steve and Kayla look at each other, and it's obvious something has happened.

Steve says they may have gotten another clue, and flips out a plastic bag with a picture of a dagger tattoo in it. Roman picks it up and is shocked. There's also a picture of Steve's tattoo.

Roman: What's going on here, where'd you get these?
Steve: (Putting his feet up on the coffeetable) Tattoo fairy put them under my pillow!
Roman: Come on, knock it off!!!!!!!

Kayla explains how she and Steve got the that from Orpheus's safe while she was trapped on the yacht. Then, Shane enters with Gillian, and tells the four of them to calm down. Roman shows Shane the packet.

Roman: Look what our friend, Patch, here found on Orpheus's yacht.
Shane: That's Britta's tattoo!
Roman: The third clue.
Steve: Well, that's just great, just great. (Walks up to Roman, is seething)
Roman: What's your problem, Johnson?
Steve: Why don't you just put it on the six o' clock news?
Roman: You know, I've had it with your attitude, Johnson, these people here are trained ISA agents!
Steve: You know what I think of your ISA?
Roman: I don't care what you think righ now. You're just lucky I don't bust your head for holding out on me!
Steve: Oooooooooo.........

Roman sits down and looks at the pictures of the tattoos, hoping it'll trigger something, but it doesn't. Roman pounds his fist on the table in frustration, then gets a flashback. It's him, with a map of Stockholm, and copies of the three tattoos on see-through paper. Roman whispers, "I AM remembering something."

Shane tells him to take his time in remembering. In more flashbacks, it shows him placing the tattoo copies on the map, then it shows him spraying the map with adhesive and putting the Stockholm Theater poster on top of it, to hide it. He asks Shane to get the copy of that poster, their copy. He also asks Gillian to get some acetone. He sprays the corners of the poster and gently begins to tear the poster off, revealing the map underneath. Everyone is shocked and amazed. He mentions to Shane that the numbers that were in Gragory's letter may be the coordinates to where the bonds are located. And that when placed properly, the three knives point to the location where he hid those bonds. Gillian leaves to enter everything they know into the computer. Roman says once this is determined, he's on the first flight to Stockholm, and Steve says he'll go with him, since he has one of the tattoos. Gillian calls the crew into the equipment room and on the computer, the location is there: It's Olde Towne Stockholm.

Orpheus is looking at the same screen, and smiles that he now knows where the bonds are. He gives Victor a call to report that, and says he tapped into Shane Donovan's computer, and Victor concludes that if Shane knows, so does Roman. Orpheus declares it's a race for the bonds, and one that he'll win.

EPISODE 40: Roman and Patch are sitting on a plane to Stockholm. Roman mentions to Patch that he knows teamwork isn't exactly Patch's style, but he appreciates his help anyway. Patch assures him that he'll do his part to help Roman get Marlena back; then Roman will be a happy man. And if Patch catches this Orpheus "dude" and burns him, then Patch will be a happy man. But Roman reminds him that they don't have the bonds yet, and until they do, this thing is far from over. Patch turns his head and sighs heavily. Several seats behind them, we see Kayla is also on board, following them. (Hope is probably with her.)

Roman and Hope are on the plane and are discussing the case. Hope somehow found out that the Kiriakis maid, Janet, knows that Orpheus is also in Stockholm. Right now, Roman doesn't realize that Orpheus is working with Victor.

Marlena is in her room, and Ralph enters, telling her that she's going to call Roman and convince him to speed up the search for the bonds. Marlena is nervous, but also very excited that she will be speaking to her husband.

Roman, Patch, and Hope are in a cafe. Roman keeps saying that he needs to remember where he hid those bonds, and that he needs to figure out why Orpheus would take Marlena.

Orpheus is searching Roman's room when the phone rings, with Marlena on the other end. He cautiously answers it. Marlena asks for Roman, but he says nothing.

Roman and Hope are in a car. A thought just struck Roman: Orpheus didn't take Marlena because he wanted Marlena, he may want to get revenge on Roman, but Roman can't figure out what he did to Orpheus to make him want revenge.

Orpheus finally says something, but says he's WORKING with Roman. Marlena tells him to tell Roman to find the bonds so she can come home. Orpheus says he'll give Roman the message, but after he hangs up, smirks, and says, "Roman won't get your message, Marlena, but I'm sure glad I did."

EPISODE 41: It's a new day, and a note from Marlena is delivered to Roman's room. Hope reads it out loud, and it basically says that Marlena loves Roman forever and that Roman should find the bonds quick- or else it will be too late. Roman realizes that Orpheus was in his room.

Roman is checking his phone for a tap, and Hope enters the room once again. She re-reads Marlena's letter, at Roman's request, while Roman fiddles with the phone. Roman asks her if she got in touch with Steve and Kayla; she says she didn't, but left a message for them at the front desk. Roman concludes that the phone is not tapped, and the room is free of any listening or any other devices. Roman is still trying to figure out what Orpheus wants with him. Hope leaves to find the maid who was on duty that morning to find out who, if anyone, may have come to Roman's room that morning.

Hope returns and says the maid didn't see anything. Roman sadly says if he doesn't remember where he hid those bonds, Orpheus will kill Marlena, no doubt. Hope assures him that he WILL remember. Roman thanks her for his encouragement. Hope leaves to go back to her room to call Ma and Pop Brady, and asks if there's anything Roman would like her to say to them. Roman says yeah: Tell them that his baby brother (Bo) couldn't have picked a better wife. Roman turns off the light, and looks at Marlena's letter again.

EPISODE 42: Roman and Hope are walking along the streets of Stockholm, their eyes wandering, hoping to figure out where Roman hid those bonds. They head into an antique store and look around a bit. Roman suddenly remembers that he's been on that street before. He spots a sign covered with dust and stares at it intensely, while fingering it. He gets flashbacks of the sound of gunfire and a lady screaming, but he still can't figure out what it means. Roman goes outside to re-hang the sign and try to re-create the scene, hoping he'll remember more. On the sign are three knives. Roman remembers that he hid the bonds underneath the pavement. (Remember, the three knives would point to the location of the bonds.) Roman touches the pavement and tries to find a point of entry. He vows not to give up.

Roman is taking a nap, and is moving back and forth in his sleep, because he is remembering more. In his flashback, he is paving a section of that street in front of the antique store with cement, and suddenly, the location hits him. He wakes up, shouting, "That's it! That's where I hid the bonds!"

He goes to Steve and Kayla's room to talk to them about his memory breakthrough. He tells them he remembers where he hid the bonds, in the storm drain. Patch laughs that he hid a ton of money in a storm drain??????? It won't be that simple to go down and get them without attracting a lot of attention, so he needs Steve's help, he has a plan. Patch agrees to help. They leave, and Kayla tells them to be careful. Patch smiles and winks at her.

EPISODE 43:

Roman and Steve are driving a construction truck and are going to act as construction workers to get into the drain. They get out of the truck. They're wearing matching outfits with hard hats. They go to the back of the truck and get out a toolbox and a "Danger" easel. Orpheus is walking along the street and spots them. He goes to the "telefon" to call Victor. Patch and Roman start to unpave the bricks.

Back in Salem, Victor answers the phone, in a greek accent, as he always does, and says, "Victor Kiriakis......" Orpheus reports that he's on Bourgen Street, by an antique store in Olde Towne. He says Roman and Patch are also there, disguised as street maintenance workers, checking the ground for an entrance to a storm drain. Victor smiles and says that Roman's finally led them to the bonds. Bo is listening to their conversation, via a bug, in another room. Orpheus assures Victor that he'll get to the bonds before Roman and Steve do. After Victor hangs up, he unscrews the phone and is checking for a bug. Sure enough, he finds one.

A policeman, suspicious of Roman and Steve's motives, questions them as to why they are there. Patch makes up a bogus story, saying that they represent the US embassy and that there was a bomb threat phoned in and they are there to check it out. The cop asks if Roman has a permit. Roman stalls. Just then, Kayla and Hope are running on the streets, trying to locate the "boys." Hope spots them, but says they seem to have trouble getting into the drain, due to the cop. And the cop doesn't seem to be buying their story. So, she and Kayla decide to distract the police officer, by yelling out, "Help!" and that they have been robbed. This way, Patch and Roman can slip into the storm drain without getting hassled, while the cop talks to Hope and Kayla.

Steve climbs into the drain first, and Roman follows him. Once they get down there, Patch says they could host some parties down there. Roman orders Patch to check every crack in the wall.

Orpheus walks over to the storm drain, flips out a gun, and climbs in after them.

Kayla also followed them down into the drain and is looking around with a flashlight. Orpheus is hidden behind a wall and is watching Kayla's every move. Kayla heads the way where Steve is, but appears nervous, as she bites her lip. Steve is still concentrating on checking the cracks in the wall. Kayla stumbles upon him.

Kayla: Steve!
Steve: (Jumps back, nervous it's a cop, but once he sees it's Kayla, relaxes.) Listen, Baby, don't you ever listen to me? WHAT are you doing down here?
Kayla: Bo and Kiriakis.
Steve: Yeah, so?
Kayla: They're up on the street, they saw Hope.
Steve: (Looks around, and puts his hand on her shoulder) We gotta tell Roman. (He takes Kayla's hand.)

They decide to head down the tunnel, but don't realize they're heading into the drain area.

EPISODE 44: Meanwhile, up on the street, Bo and Hope are in an embrace. Hope tells him that Steve and Roman are down in the storm drain and Kayla went down to warn them about Victor being in Stockholm. Bo throws a fit when he learns that Kayla is here in Stockholm, but eventually calms down. He reports that Victor received a call from Orpheus because Orpheus spotted Roman on the street. And if Roman is in the drain, chances are that Orpheus followed him down there. Bo tells Hope to take off, while Bo goes down into the drain to warn Roman before Orpheus gets to him. They kiss. After Hope runs off, Bo slips into the drain, and we see Victor hang up a pay phone on the street adjacent. He and an associate leave for an appointment.

Hope comes out from behind a street truck, and she, stubborn as ever, and pregnant, decides to head into the drain as well.

Roman is sweating and trying to find the location of the bonds with a flashlight, while feeling the cracks in the wall. Suddenly, he finds an opening. He takes off his vest and excitedly tries to open it further. He finally opens the secret compartment and finds a small metal box. He opens it, and sure enough, the bonds are there and in tact. Orpheus emerges from the shadows silently, with his gun.

A section of the storm drain is flooding, and Steve and Kayla are in that section, running around in circles, drenched, and yelling out for help.

Roman smiles and mutters to himself that now he's found the bonds, he and Marlena can be together again. Orpheus overhears and says out loud, "I wouldn't be too sure of that, Roman." They both stare at each other with hatred in their eyes. Orpheus demands that Roman hand over the bonds, but Roman wants his wife back first. Orpheus repeats himself, but Roman isn't budging. Roman slowly tosses the bonds to Orpheus, hoping to overpower him and get away, but a struggle ensues. Meanwhile, Bo is looking for Roman in the storm drain, and suddenly hears a gunshot. Roman and Orpheus are still fighting, but Orpheus knocks Roman unconscious. Orpheus grabs the bonds and stuffs them into his coat. He says he doesn't have Marlena---not yet. Bo yells out to Roman, and comes face to face with Orpheus. As soon as Orpheus points his flashlight on Bo and sees who it is, he says, "Ahhhh, Bo Brady. This must be my lucky day. Two Bradys for the price of one."

Bo is hidden, and Orpheus is looking around for him with a flashlight. Opportunity knocks, and Bo tries to attack him, but Orpheus knocks him down temporarily. Orpheus takes off, and Bo goes to Roman to try and wake him up. When he can't, he takes Roman over his shoulder and carries him out of the drain.

EPISODE 45: Roman is in his hotel room alone the next day, nursing his head, due to the knockout Orpheus had given to him the night before. He spies a note on the desk, and opens it quickly. It says: "If you have the bonds, we're ready to make the exchange. We'll be in touch." Roman laments that Orpheus knows he doesn't have the bonds, and Roman tries to figure out what the hell's going on here. He comes to the conclusion that the note isn't from Orpheus, but WHO?????

Roman and Hope are once again walking on the street. Roman had shown the note to Hope, and she's just as puzzled as he is about it. They try to figure out who sent the note.

Patch meets up with Hope on the street. Patch has seen the note as well and wants to help. Patch tells Hope that Roman sent Kayla in his place to meet Bo on the docks. Roman wanted to meet with Bo, but was afraid he wouldn't show, so he sent Kayla in his place as a decoy, (Considering the tension between these two brothers back in those days, this is not surprising.)

On the Stockholm pier, Kayla meets Bo. Bo asks what Kayla wanted to talk about, and Roman comes along, saying she didn't want to talk to him, HE did. Roman fills Bo in on how he's been running in circles the past couple of weeks trying to find these "damn treasury bonds." And that there's going to be a trade, but Orpheus knows HE doesn't have the bonds. Roman is in desperation, and asks Bo to help him, to find out if Orpheus, who works for Kiriakis, has the bonds, but more importantly, if he has marlena. Bo says no, he can't betray his father. Roman loses all control and pops Bo in the kisser. He then storms off.

Roman is back in his hotel room, and sees someone slip something under the door. He runs to the door and catches the culprit. He drags him into his room, and while holding him against the wall, reads the note. It says that the exchange is to be made on pier 27 at midnight. Roman demands to know who sent this man, but the man says all the communication has been made by phone. Roman drags this man over to the phone and orders him to call his boss. This the man does. Roman compliments him, saying, "Good Boy." As soon as the man is done dialing, Roman grabs the phone and tells the person on the other end that he's got the bonds, but first wants to hear about his wife.

EPISODE 46: Back in Salem, at Shane's house, Shane has just discovered Gillian's duplicity. She's sitting on the couch, looking off into space, and Shane is pacing back and forth, berating her. He has discovered the part that Gillian has been spying on him for the ISA. Gillian can't answer any questions that Shane has, saying it would betray her ISA oath. But Shane doesn't let up. Shane reads Gillian the riot act and wants answers. She finally breaks down and confesses that the ISA has Marlena. Shane is shocked that a government agency that he works for which is supposed to protect people, have done THIS. Shane yells at Gillian for her involvement, and Gillian tells Shane that Marlena is in Stockholm.

In Stockholm, Hope and Roman are in his hotel room, when they hear a knock on the door. They draw their guns, but put them away when they hear that it's Bo. It seems that Bo has information. Bo tells Roman that Orpheus does not have Marlena, and that Victor doesn't know, either. Roman scoffs that he doesn't believe a word that comes out of that scum Kiriakis's mouth. Bo asks Roman to leave him and his father alone, but Roman refuses to do that. Bo says then the next time they have one of their little tiffs, Roman won't be the only one throwing punches. Before Bo leaves, he tells Roman that as of this afternoon, Orpheus and Victor are no longer working together; Orpheus has his own plans now. He'll use the bonds to get Marlena because he wants revenge on Roman.

Roman isn't sure that Bo was telling the truth and wonders if Bo was sent as part of some Kiriakis plan. Hope says he is telling the truth, and that Bo is giving them an advantage here by giving them information, and that they'd better not waste it. The phone rings. It's Marlena. She says she's all right and says she wants to come home, with tears in her eyes. She tells Roman that she has to give the phone back to the guard, Ralph, and that she just called to say she loves him. Ralph has a short conversation with Roman, then he hangs up.

Marlena asks for confirmation that once Roman hands over the bonds, she'll be returned to him. Ralph assures her that if everything goes according to plan, she should be with her husband by night's end. Marlena says a prayer.

EPISODE 47: On the pier 27, both Patch and Roman are waiting there with guns, in silence. Roman walks forward, with a briefcase, when he sees a man approaching. He demands to see his wife, but the man tells him to just hand over the bonds. Roman tosses the bonds to the ground. But hands off them, if he doesn't see his wife first, he says. Orpheus comes along and says that Roman's bonds are fake and he's got the real ones. A henchman is holding Gillian, to look like Marlena, and she's struggling. Roman sees Orpheus has a gun and yells out to Marlena, but a big struggle occurs. Gillian elbows the man who was holding her and just as Orpheus takes out a gun, Shane and Kayla come out of nowhere, and as Shane is pushing Gillian out of the way, Orpheus shoots Shane. This happens in slow motion, as he falls to the ground.

Marlena and Ralph are in the hotel room. Ralph assures Marlena that she'll see her husband soon. Marlena is excited. But then the phone rings. Ralph reports to Marlena that things didn't go as planned at the exchange and she won't be seeing her husband. He leaves the room, and Marlena is as confused as ever.

Roman, Hope, and Gillian are on the pier, the scene of the crime, and Hope tells Roman that Shane's condition is very serious, and that Patch and Kayla are riding with him in the ambulance. Gillian, obviously shook up, attempts to leave, but Roman stops her, saying he wants answers. Gillian confesses to Roman that the ISA has Marlena. He's shocked as well.

Marlena pesters Ralph to find out what went wrong at the exchange, but Ralph doesn't know. Marlena is going crazy, just sitting there and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. She tries to throw a lamp through the window, she's so frustrated, but Ralph stops her. Marlena says she's going to leave, and Ralph gets his gun out. Marlena encourages him to shoot her if he has to, but she's leaving. Ralph admits he's chicken, he can't shoot her. She firmly still says she's going to leave, but Ralph stops her. She agrees that she should stay and wait it out, and makes her way over to a crystal vase. She knocks ralph out and escapes.

EPISODE 48: Marlena is on the streets of Stockholm, yelling out for help. But it's late at night. She runs around. Orpheus walks up behind her, and since she doesn't know what he looks like, mistakes him for a kind civilian. She tells him she just escaped and needs to find her husband. Orpheus plays nice guy. Orpheus offers to help find "her husband." Marlena thanks him.

Roman's in Washington D.C., speaking with Vaughn, now that he knows that the ISA has Marlena. Roman orders Vaughn to take him to Marlena, so they leave.

Ralph has just become conscious, and has quite a bump on his head. Just then, Roman and Vaughn burst in, but no sign of Marlena. Ralph relays the events of the evening to Roman, saying he's got a feisty wife. Roman's angry that his wife wasn't there.

Orpheus goes to his yacht with Marlena and they make small talk. Marlena tells him that her husband is Roman Brady and they need to find him. Orpheus is obviously infatuated with Marlena. Orpheus reveals his identity to Marlena, and she's stunned. He also tells her that the ISA had been holding Marlena captive. Orpheus and Marlena make a joint call to Roman, with Orpheus saying now he DOES have Marlena. Marlena speaks to him on the phone. Orpheus tells Roman he wants him to pay, but Roman has no idea what he's talking about. They agree to meet. While looking out the window, Roman gets flashbacks of a woman running and gunfire. In this flashback, thinking he's defending himself from the KGB, accidentally shoots a woman, who comes out of nowhere. He remembers it was Orpheus's wife. There's a knock on the door, it's Orpheus. Orpheus plainly says that he wants Roman to suffer the same way he has, by seeing the only woman he's ever loved die at his feet. Orpheus leaves.

EPISODE 49: Hope and Roman are in the hotel room when Patch and Kayla arrive, reporting that Shane's condition is critical, but he's stable, and Kim is with him. Patch, Hope, and Kayla are unaware that Roman doesn't have Marlena back, so Roman tells her that Orpheus has her now.

Marlena is tied to a chair on Orpheus's yacht, when Orpheus arrives back. She wants to know what happened at the meeting with Roman, but Orpheus says it's not good to ask so many questions.

Orpheus is on the phone with Roman once again, and they agree to meet again, this time with Marlena, at midnight, in front of the same antique store. Roman wants to know what Orpheus is planning, but Orpheus says he has to experience it firsthand. He hangs up.

Roman is putting on his jacket, getting ready to see Marlena again. He sits down on the bed to say a prayer, to God, asking him to watch over Marlena and keep her safe. (John is SOOOOOOOO sweet, I wish I had a guy as devoted and true!)

Orpheus and Marlena leave the yacht to go see Roman. Orpheus says if Marlena follows his orders, he will let her go.

Roman is on the street, cautiously walking towards Orpheus, he doesn't trust this guy. Orpheus gives Marlena an order to run to Roman as fast as she can when he says so. He finally does, and Roman, knowing it's a trick, tries to stop her from running. Then, Orpheus shoots her. Roman yells out, "NOOOOOOOOO!" as she slumps to the ground. This scene is also shot in slow motion, accompanied by the noises Orpheus's wife made when she was shot. Quite an interesting scene.

EPISODE 50: Patch, Kayla, and Hope are down in the storm drain. Seems they have a plan to get Marlena back. Once Kayla hears gunfire, she says someone may be bleeding to death and she's not going to sit down there and let someone die, she needs to help them. But Patch stops her. They don't want her to blow the plan. Until they know otherwise, they're staying down there. Patch gives Kayla a hug.

Roman runs to Marlena and cradles her while Orpheus tells him about the misery he's suffered since his wife's death, because Roman killed her, even though they both know it was an accident. He wanted Roman to experience it, too. Roman feels a pulse on Marlena, and Orpheus explains he only shot her with a tranquilizer dart. Marlena comes to, and Roman helps her to her feet. Orpheus wants Marlena back, but then the grate to the storm drain flips open, due to Patch, and Roman punches Orpheus, and grabs Marlena and they both jump down into the drain. Patch shuts it. They meet up with Hope and Kayla, too. Orpheus gets back up and shoots into the drian. He climbs down into the drain and goes down one of the tunnels. Hope rushes to the control switches which shut the doors to the compartment where water floods in. (The same place Steve and Kayla were the first time around down in the storm drain.) Orpheus realizes he's trapped, and as water floods in, looks off into space.

Two policeman come into the drain to go to the compartment to arrest Orpheus. Roman and Marlena kiss.Roman, Marlena, Patch, Kayla, and Hope are in Roman's hotel room, celebrating Marlena's return with champagne. They make a few toasts, and the three of them decide to let Marlena and Roman have some time alone. They share a long-awaited reunion.

CONCLUSION:

The ISA ended up with the bonds.
