Sami's Bulimia Story
1993

Sami was away at school with her twin brother Eric. She returned home and met a guy in her sister Carrie's apartment building. The guy was Austin. Sami had no idea he was her sister's boyfriend and she developed a major crush on him.

She desperately tried to lose weight in order to be more attractive to Austin, but she developed very dangerous behavior. Sami's desire to win Austin is not the only reason she became bulimic. She lived with a devastating secret that's tearing her apart. She saw Marlena and John making love the night of the Titan opening. It was that same night that Sami realized the guy she had a crush on was her sister's boyfriend. Also that night, Carrie was hit in the face by acid, as a result of her involvement with Austin. Sami was mad at her mother and jealous of her sister and then it started.

Sami: I can't believe I just ate four plates of food, I can't let her do this to me, I can't let her make me lose control. No matter how much of a mess my life is in, I'm going to get Austin. I'm going to be thin like Brandy, like Brandy. That is the only way. I've got to make my self throw up.

After a while, Marlena did a pregnant test and found out she's pregnant. Marlena and John did a blood test to see if it's John's baby, but neither John or Marlena knew that Sami had seen them making love. Sami was protective of her father and she decided no matter what the blood test showed, she was going to make sure that Roman would think the baby is his. She changed the blood test results after learning a bit about hematology.

The first one who found about Sami's bulimia was Jamie. It was at Lucas' 18th birthday party:

Jamie: Well, it looks like the party is over.

Sami: Really, yeah

Jamie: We have to go anyway. We have to get back to the hospital.

Sami: Why, what happened?

Jamie: Well, Jody and Chrissy took our shift, so now we have to take their shift.

Sami: That's a crummy deal, Jamie

Jamie: Hey, it was the best I can do on such short notice, come on

Sami: All right

Jamie: Are you O.K.? You look sick. It must be all that food you were stuffing down your mouth before. You can't starve yourself for days and then binge like that

Sami: Don't worry about me. I just got hot dancing.

Jamie: You haven't danced in a while. In fact the last time I saw you, you were on your way to the bathroom, and you came out of the bathroom eating breath mints. I can't believe you, Sami!

Sami: What's wrong with you?

Jamie: Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you. How long have you been doing this?

Sami: Doing what?

Jamie: Don't play dumb with me, No wonder you've been pigging out. You're going to throw up after you pig out like stupid skinny Brandy. It's crazy Sami, you know it's crazy. No guy is worth that, not even Austin.

Sami: Butt out Jamie, I know what I'm doing!

After the party Jamie tried to convince Sami that bulimia is a very dangerous thing. She caught her eating doughnuts in the hospital.

Jamie: You ate eleven plates of food at the party and you're not going to have one doughnut. You'll eat every doughnut and then make yourself sick
Sami: Look, I don't want to talk about this right now

Jamie: You've got to stop lying to me and to yourself. You're bulimic and we both know it
Sami: Right, I sometimes make myself sick because I ate too much, but I can make myself stop whenever I want
Jamie: Listen to yourself. you sound like that kid from school who's on drugs: "Hey it's not me, man. I can stop any time I want". the guy overdosed Sami
Sami: I'm not a doper, Jamie

Jamie: But what you're doing is just as bad. I know Sami, I know because somebody close to me have this problem, my sister Sami: Heather? I had no idea!

Jamie: I'm telling you this because I don't want to see you go through the same thing. Heather wanted to get thin so she could impress a guy, just like you want to impress Austin. at list that was her excuse, but her problems were a lot deeper than that. She was under a lot of pressure and she couldn't handle it. She lost control. She was about doomed. Look, I'm not being dramatic here. She almost died

Sami: I'm not going to die Jamie. Look, I'll swear to you, all right? No more food! I'll prove to you how much will power I really have, all right?

Jamie: You've been trying to prove that for the last month, but now I know what you really been doing

Sami: I am not like your sister, Jamie

Jamie: You have some pretty serious pressures, Sami, and you can't deal with this stuff by yourself

Sami: I'll be all right

Jamie: You won't begin to be all right until you admit you have a problem. When my sister finally admitted it, she needed two more people to help her through it: a therapist and mom. You're lucky, your mom is a shrink so talk to her

Sami: Now you are the one who needs help, Jamie. What do you want me to do? You want me to go "Oh, mom, I'm having a little problem dealing with the fact that you betrayed dad and slept with John. Would you help me make me feel better with it?", is that what you want me to say to her?

Jamie: Look, even though you're mad at her now, you still love her and you miss being close to her

Sami: My mother and I can never be close again. I can never forgive her for betraying my father

Jamie: you can't fix the problem if you don't even admit you have one

Sami: Stop hassling me about this, all right?

Jamie: No! I'm your friend and I don't want to see you hurting yourself. I want you to get help and your mother can give that to you

Sami: She can't give me anything, not anymore

Jamie: Come on, give her a break and give yourself a break too. Stop denying all the love you feel for her. Just go up to her and put your arm around her. Look, I'm not saying everything will be O.K. right away, but I promise you it will be O.K. eventually

Sami: Forget it! I can handle my problems on my own

Meanwhile Sami tried to stay away from her mom, a thing that was difficult for Marlena. Roman who saw that Marlena is suffering, asked Sami to try to get close to Marlena. In her diary Sami wrote "Jamie was right about one thing. I still love mom. I felt it tonight, even when I tried to fight it, and I guess I'll always love her. But it's so hard to forget what she did, and I don't think I can even forgive her. Maybe if I didn't have to be around her so much it might be easier. but I promised dad I'll get close to her again. It's so important to him and I don't want to disappoint him. But it will be so hard, because I keep thinking about mom and John. Oh, man, I wish I could forget about them, but I can't. I just can't get it out of my mind, no matter how hard I try. I don't know how I'm going to make it through this, I just don't know".

In the morning, Carrie and Caroline organized a baby shower for Marlena. Sami tried to get away from the party, but Carrie convinced her to stay. Sami tried not to disappoint her father. She stayed at the party but then an unexpected guest arrived - John. Then Sami took a plate full with food. Jamie, who just arrived saw her

Jamie: how you'll lose weight if you'll eat all this? No, Sami, you can't do this!

Sami: It's not a big deal.

Jamie: Killing yourself is not a big deal? I disagree, Sami. You really need help

Sami: I'm fine, all right? It's not like I have to do this

Jamie: Then don't! Stop it! Stop it right now!

But Sami is too late, she can't control herself and she rushes to eat and then go right away to the bathroom. Jamie sees her and she's all worried about Sami's health. She is determined to tell Marlena the truth about Sami's illness, but Sami tells her that telling the truth could only make things worst. At home Marlena tries to talk to Sami. she tries to find out what is bothering Sami so much. But Sami can't talk with her about it, there is something that's stops her

A new Day starts. Sami and Jamie are going out for shopping. After losing 6 pounds, Sami buys a suit in order to impress Austin. She took her mom's advice about boys and she decided to tell Austin about her feelings for him. It comes out that Marlena's advice doesn't work for Sami and Austin turns her down. He claims that she's too young and that he likes her as a friend. after that Jamie arrived to the hospital and she finds Sami crying.

 Jamie: What happened?

Sami: I told Austin how I felt about him. He told me to fly a kite

 Jamie: Sami...

Sami: Somebody should have got it on video - Sami Brady - The most humiliating moment in her life

Jamie: Sami, I thought you weren't going to admit your feelings to Austin

Sami: I wasn't till my brilliant shrink of a mother changed my mind. she told me to be honest about feelings. Since we all know she believes in honesty herself

Jamie: Come on, Sami, this kind of talking aren't going to help

Sami: Why did I listened to her? How could I have been that gullible? I feel so ugly, so stupid, so ashamed

Jamie: No! Don't feel like that! It's not good! This is just the kind of things that could send you off on some crazy binge

Sami: I don't want to talk about that. What I eat and what I don't eat is nobody's business but mine!

Jamie: It's not my business if I care about you?

Sami: If you care about me, you'll shut up about about this

Jamie: You couldn't handle it before, and now this thing with Austin, it just worries me. I think you should get help, talk to someone

Sami: Never! It's bad enough that you have to know something so disgusting about me. If anyone else had found out I would die. Don't you understand? No one can know about this, ever!

Meanwhile at home Marlena put on new sheets on Sami's bed and clean up the room for her. When she opens the closet to put Sami's clothes, she find a box with food and laxatives. Marlena goes down to the living room and she waits for Sami. When Sami arrive the two have an argument

Marlena: I was wondering where you were

Sami: Yeah, well here I am

Marlena: Stay right there!

Sami: I want to be alone, all right?

Marlena: No! It's not all right. you wait right here, Samantha, we have to talk

Sami: No, we don't, in fact we never need to talk again, mom. You maybe help your patients, but all you do for me is screw things up

Marlena: I've had enough of this from you, I'm done now!

Sami: Let go of me!

Marlena: You don't run this house Samantha, You don't run it! When I say we talk, we talk! Do you understand?

Sami: What do you want to talk about?

Marlena: These (she shows her the laxatives), I found these in your room along with a life time supply of junk food

Sami: I can't believe you! You were snooping around my room!

Marlena: Samantha!

Sami: What else did you find there, ha mom? Maybe you found my diary, how about some personal letters to throw in? I bet you had a real full day in there, didn't you?

Marlena: I wasn't snooping in your room! I was putting a new sheet on your bed and cleaning after you

Sami: Who do you trying to kid here, ha mom?

Marlena: Look, I know you are angry, but it isn't the issue here. The issue is what I found in your room

Sami: So you found some junk food, big deal

Marlena: And some laxatives

Sami: So? Haven't you ever had too much junk food and taken a laxative? You are looking at me like I'm some kind of psycho or something

Marlena: Samantha, I've dealt with people with eating disorders before. I know the symptoms. You are obsessed with your weight, diets aren't helping you so now you are bingeing and purging, aren't you?

Sami: This is so disgusting, how can you even accuse me of that?

Marlena: I'm not accusing you, I know exactly what you're doing. I want to help you deal with all of this

Sami: There is nothing to deal with, I'm perfectly healthy

Marlena: You maybe healthy now, but you won;t be very soon. Bulimia is very serious. It's not a diet, it's a disease. It will leave you sick emotionally and physically. Samantha, I'm your mother. I will not let that happen to you. I will get you some help

Sami: You are the one who needs help! Making up this lies about me! I am not bulimic!

Marlena: Samantha!

Sami: You are just looking for an excuse to make me feel bed, that is all you want. And you are the one who deserve to feel bad. When do you start worrying about your own problems for a change and leave mine alone? In fact, leave me alone! Sami is goes up to her room and Marlena comes right after her

Marlena: Sami, open the door! Sami, I'm not going until you'll open this door! Sami opens the door

Sami: We have nothing to discuss!

Marlena: I'm not going to criticize you. I want to help you understand what drove you to self destructive behavior

Sami: I lost some weight. I look better, I feel better. What is so destructive about that?

Marlena: You are making yourself throw up, don't you know how dangerous that is? Look, I'm your mother, I love you, I care about you, I am worrying sick about you. I know something is been bothering you for months. Tell me what it is, let me help you deal with that, please let me help you. Honey, just tell me what happened? Why are you so upset? Just tell me!

Sami: If you keep pushing me I will tell you, and believe me when I say you'll be sorry. Sami slams the door

Marlena: You said something that I want explain. Now open the door and talk to me! Sami opens the door

Sami: You don't want to talk. all you want to do is accuse me of horrible things.

Marlena: I can't ignore the evidence

Sami: Evidence? evidence? This is great! You found some food and laxatives in my room and all of a sudden you accuse me of being some kind of weirdo! If you found the same stuff in Carrie's room you would not think she was a psycho!

Marlena: If Carrie had been behaving like you have the last few months, I would come to the same conclusion about her

Sami: Well, then you'd be wrong about her too!

Marlena: Lets start from the beginning, shall we? You said that if I found out what is bothering you I would be very upset. What does that mean exactly?

Sami: Nothing. I was just trying to sound off, get you of my back

Marlena: I don't believe you

Sami: Fine, I'm a psycho and a liar. I don't have to listen to this anymore

Marlena: oh, you will!! Sami, you are not just lying to me here. You are lying to yourself. Now, you've got some serious problem and you'd better start dealing with this right away. This is tearing you apart. Now, once and for all, let me help you with it! Samantha, when I'm upset I lose my appetite, but some people eat because it makes them feel safe. they feel comfort from food and that is what happened to you. It's O.K. as long as the eating doesn't get out of control. But I think that you'd become to eat to feel comfort and then you feel guilty that you over eating already

Sami: You are talking to me about control? When do you learn to control yourself! I don't need to listen to your shrink talk!

Marlena: Let me help you with this

Sami: Like you helped me this afternoon? I listened to you and it was probably the stupid thing I could have done

Marlena: Why? What happened today?

Sami: you told me not to worry about boys, that they will be interested in me. That I should just be honest about my feelings. Well it was the worst thing I could have done!

Marlena: why?

Sami: He practically laughed in my face! It was the most humiliating moment of my life

Marlena: Oh, Sami, I'm sorry

Sami: It was my own stupid fault for believing you. I had it all working out, you know? I was going to get him interested in me and it would work too. As ever I listened to you and now I've blown it. I have no chance of getting close to him now .

Marlena: Maybe he is not the young man for you, Sami. If he doesn't return your feelings then...you'll have lots of young men in your life, and you will find the right one

Sami: I found him and now I lost him thanks to you

Marlena: Oh, Sami. I know how much this hurts you

Sami: How could you possibly know? When have you ever had a guy turned you down? Never, you can have any guy you ant because you are perfect

Marlena: I'm not perfect, nobody is

Sami: Come here, come here! Take a look at yourself in that mirror. Tell me one thing that is not perfect about you

Marlena: Is that what this is all about? Do you feel that you have got to be somebody's idea of what perfect is?

Sami: All I did was lose some baby fat

Marlena: No! you have a problem that you can't cope and that is why you are doing this for yourself

Sami: I am not doing anything

Marlena: Yes you are, Sami denying will only make it worst. Honey, I am your mother, I can't stand by and watch you hurt yourself

Sami: What do you think you're doing? Is it O.K. for you to hurt people now?

Marlena: No, I would never do anything to hurt or embarrass you, don't you know that? You are the most important person in the world to me. You and this family. Honey, I wouldn't even hound you if you tell me the truth about what's happening

Sami: You want the truth, I'll tell you the truth. The laxatives aren't mine! I'm keeping them for someone else

Marlena: For whom?

Sami: I can't tell you, I promised I'd keep it a secret

Marlena: Keeping a secret does nobody any good. It's just make things worst

Sami: I knew you 'd find a way to blame me

Marlena: I'm not blaming you for this. Bulimia is a very serious disorder. It needs to be treated like a broken bone needs to be treated

Sami: I'll pass the information along

Marlena: If it were for a friend

Sami: You don't believe me, do you? You just assume that everything I'm going to tell you is a lie

Marlena: I never said that

Sami: It's what you meant. You just think that I'm making up this story so you'll get off my back

Marlena: If you were I wouldn't be angry at all. All I want to do is help you

Sami: I don't need your help. That's Jamie's laxatives, all right? Just drop it, I'll tell Jamie she needs help and she'll get it. I'll tell her I can't keep this stuff for her anymore

Marlena: I want to talk to her mother

Sami: You can't do that!

Marlena: Oh really? why can't I do that, Samantha? Why can't I?

Sami: Because I told her that she needs help and she may get it. But if you'll tell her mother all you are going to do is make things worst for her

Marlena: Alright, but I will talk to Jamie herself

Sami: Why are you keep trying to interfere in my life? I can handle it

Marlena: Are you sure those pills don't belong to you? If they do, there is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed. I am here to help you with the problem. I am here for you

Sami: That is what I keep telling Jamie

Marlena: Who's food did I find in your room?

Sami: Jamie's

Marlena: And she comes here to eat? Is that it?

Sami: Yes, you can throw it away if you want Marlena takes a piece of paper and she write a telephone number

Marlena: I want you to give this number to Jamie. It's a very good clinic. It will help her with her problem. Now, I hope you know that if you ever have a problem, that you can come to me. Sami, nothing is more important than being honest with the people that love you, and being honest with yourself. Marlena leaves Sami's room

Sami: What do you know about honesty, Mom?

After the big argument Sami had with Marlena, Jamie came over. She was really mad at Sami when she found out that Sami told Marlena that the laxatives aren't hers and their Jamie's

Sami: Not only that I humiliate myself by asking Austin out, now this...

Jamie: Now what?

Sami: My mom found my stash of food and laxatives

Jamie: Oh, no. Did she freak out?

Sami: Yeah, she practically gave me the third degree

Jamie: Oh god, it must have been horrible

Sami: It was. And I'm not going through this again. That is why I called you over here as soon as she left. We've got to get our stories straight

Jamie: What stories?

Sami: About the food and the laxatives. I couldn't admit they were mine

Jamie: you didn't admit it? Than what did you tell her?

Sami: I told her that I was keeping them for somebody else

Jamie: who did you say you were keeping them for?

Sami: you

Jamie: Me? You didn't! I can't believe you did that to me, we've been best friends forever! How could you do that to me?

Sami: Jamie, I'm sorry. But don't worry about it, it's not big deal, O.K.?

Jamie: It's not big deal? Now every time I'll come over here your mom is going to be looking at me like I'm some kind of alien!

Sami: No, it's O.K., I told her that you were getting help, that you aren't doing it anymore

Jamie: She'll still look at me like I'm some kind of weirdo

Sami: You think I want her looking at me like that?

Jamie: Well, It's your problem, not mine! Why did you have to blame me?

Sami: She just kept pushing me and pushing me. You should watch the look on her face. she was talking about what a serious eating disorder Bulimia is. She was looking at me like I was dirt

Jamie: Well, that is how she is going to look at me now

Sami: It's not big deal, just stay away from her and she'll forget about it

Jamie: Do you really think that you convinced her that you protecting me and not yourself?

Sami: Yes, I'm sure. If you will help me...will you help me Jamie? Please!

After Jamie left, Marlena came back from the Horton Center. Marlena noticed that Sami doesn't look so good. Sami entered her room and Marlena is talking to her from outside the room

Marlena: Honey, Sami, are you O.K.? You don't O.K. so good

Sami: Mom, I'm gonna be fine. I just don't feel good after what happened today and I'm gonna go to bed

Marlena: Honey, open the door, I want to talk to you

Sami: There is nothing to talk about, I'm gonna go to sleep

Marlena: Samantha, I want to trust you and I want to respect your privacy, but this is far too important. Honey, we have to talk Meanwhile in her room, Sami is trying to hide all the snack's covers that she ate when Marlena was in the Horton Center. Marlena opens the door and she see Sami and what she's doing

Marlena: You lied to me. It's not Jamie, it's you! You're bulimic!

Sami: Well, you are wrong, it's not what you think

Marlena: Who ate all this food if you didn't?

Sami: I can explain

Marlena: You don't have to try, don't denial it! You have to face the truth - you are bulimic

Sami: It's not true, I didn't eat this stuff! It's not even mine, I told you already it's Jamie's! Some friends of mine came over after you left and they brought a new CD, they ate everything

Marlena: Sami, stop it! I should have seen this coming a long time ago, I should have seen this happening. I can't believe I missed this, but Sami, you've got a very serious problem

Sami: No! There is no problem!

Marlena: There is a problem! You are too smart to pretend you don't know anything about Bulimia

Sami: Of course I know what it is, but it's not me mom, I swear that!

Marlena: Don't say that,Sami, don't say that to me. the long you denial this, the longer it will take to get this thing fixed

Sami: Alright, fine, have it your way. I'm diseased all right? Now, just go away and leave me alone

Marlena: There is a reason you are out of control. Find the reason and then get help fixing it!

Sami: Here we go again with the shrink talk

Marlena: A lot of people have been helped by therapy, but they have to admit they have a problem first. Now frankly, I feel responsible for this

Sami: You should feel responsible!

Marlena: Really, why?

Sami: Never mind

Marlena: What upset you, Sami? Tell me what upset you so much

Sami: Nothing

Marlena: I won't be angry at you. I promise I won't be angry

Sami: there is nothing to tell

Marlena: Alright, fine. you won't talk to me, maybe you'll talk to a therapist

Sami: Therapist> I'm not gonna see a therapist!

Marlena: I will not stay by and watch you destroy your body, I won't do it! And neither will your father, he'll be home very soon

Sami: You can't tell dad! Dad can not know ever! you really hate me, don't you? You just can't wait to tell dad all this horrible things about me so you could embarrass and humiliate me so that dad will hate me too and he'll never want to see me again! And they're all lies anyway!

Marlena: I could never hate you, neither could your father. Sami, you have a serious problem. You have to admit that and deal with that. Maybe your father can convince you of that

Sami: You can not tell him!

Marlena: Don't be afraid to have your father know. He is a loving, understanding man. He won't judge you, Sami, he'll understand you Sami: You don't have to tell me about how good man dad is, I already know. He is the most wonderful man on the planet and I will do everything to keep him from being hurt, and I have

Marlena: Really? What have you done?

Sami: Nothing

Marlena: Tell me what is going on, tell me the truth. Samantha, do you have the paper that I gave you with the number of the disorder clinic?

Sami: It's around here somewhere

Marlena: Never mind, I've changed my mind. I'll make you an appointment myself

Sami: Don't you trust me to do it?

Marlena: No, I don't! You won't even admit you have a problem. How can you understand how much danger you are in? The phone rings. It's Roman on the phone and he tells Marlena he's on his way home

Marlena: Well, you heard, your father is coming home

Sami: If you tell dad I won't go to that clinic! I won't get help anywhere!

Marlena: Samantha Gene! You are trying to blackmail me and that won't work! I am still your mother. You are still 15 years old. When I say you' go to therapy, you go to therapy!

Sami: You would force me...Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was blackmailing you. It's just that dad will be so upset. He would be so disappointed of me. I couldn't stand that. I'd rather die that having him know what's go around

Marlena: Sami, your daddy loves you. He would do anything to help you

Sami: Mom, I'll do what ever you say. I will cooperate, just please don't tell him

Marlena: I think it's very bad idea to keep your father in the dark

Sami: I know it's wrong to keep secrets from dad, but isn't it wrong to make him suffer from something I did? Mom, I'll get the help I need, please don't tell him!

Their conversation was interrupted by Carrie and Lucas who came for dinner

Marlena made an appointment for Sami, but Sami didn't arrive. Marlena wanted to tell Roman the truth because Sami broke her promise

Marlena: Samantha, come in here! Why didn't you get to your appointment with Dr. Michaels?

Sami: Can we talk about this when dad is not here?

Marlena: We can talk about this right now

Sami: It's kind of complicated

Marlena: we had a deal - you promised you would get help if I promise I wouldn't tell your father. You broke your promise, now I'm gonna tell him. Maybe he can convince you to get some help

Sami: No, mom! You can not do that! Please, you can not tell daddy ever. If you tell him, he'll think I'm crazy or something. I die of shame if you ever told him

Marlena: You have a disease, it is nothing to be ashamed of

Sami: It's gross and disgusting

Marlena: Well then get some help with it! Sami I will, I promise

Marlena: you made that promise once before to me
Sami: I couldn't help it. They needed me to work at "Titan", they had a lot of stuff for me to do and I couldn't tell Mary that I was gonna be late for an appointment with a shrink
Marlena: what will your excuse be next time? And the next time? You have a problem that you're not dealing with, so your father and I deal with it now, like it or not!
Sami: Mom, I'm getting better. I just made a big meal with daddy and it didn't bother me at all. I promise I'll eat and I promise I won't throw up
Marlena: You're dealing with the symptoms, not the illness
Sami: It's not an illness, will you stop saying that? I'm not sick!
Marlena: You have a serious eating disorder and it will never be cured until you will get to the underline cause of it
Sami: I don't need a shrink to tell me what the underlying cause is. I already know!
Marlena: So why do you deny it? Why don't you tell me about it?
Sami: I'm upset and angry

Marlena: I know you're angry. Tell me why you are angry, we can deal with that

Marlena: It was the boy I fell in love with. I thought that if I was thin enough for him he would be interested in me. It didn't work, but I'm O.K. now, I realize how stupid it was and I'm really O.K.

Marlena: I'm not sure it's all about this boy, but since you won't tell me, maybe you'll tell your father

Sami: Just give me one more chance. All I'm asking for is one more chance, mom. Their conversation ended here because Roman had to go out for a mission with his friend Richy, who later died in the mission. In the morning Carrie confronted her sister. Carrie told her that she should stop saying mean things about Marlena, that she's been doing it for the last couple of months and she's trying to find out what Sami have against Marlena

Carrie: I don't believe you, you've been saying mean things about Marlena for the last couple of months and I've tried to understand why, because I thought you are upset about some boy

Jamie: I better go

Sami: No, Jamie...

Jamie: I volunteer today in the hospital

Sami: So do I, I've actually got to go

Carrie: No, no, no, no, no, no! You are not going anywhere until you tell me the truth!

Sami: Carrie, just leave this alone

Carrie: no way, Sami! Not when you are treating Marlena like she is doing something terrible, like she's the enemy. Marlena is the world's best mother

Sami: Oh, really? That shows how much you know!

Carrie: See, there you go again, saying mean things about her. what do you have against Marlena?

Sami: It's not your business

Carrie: Sami, I'm still a part of this family too, so I'm making it my business. Marlena is pregnant, she is not supposed to be stress out. All she is doing is trying to reach out to you, and you just keep pushing her away

Sami: I have my reasons

Carrie: Well, what ever they are, you better fix it. You better talk to her and tell her what is bugging you so you can go back to normal. And look at dad right now. He is having a terrible time dealing with a death of one of his friends, but do you care? No! You're going on your selfish way, thinking about nobody else but yourself

Sami: I don't have to listen to this, I'm getting out of here

Carrie: No, you're not, Sami!

Sami: Let go of me! I have to get to the hospital!

Carrie: It's O.K. if you are a little late. Now, you are going to wait here for Marlena and you're going to be nice even if it will kill you

Sami: I can't, I'm gonna be late

Now Marlena and Roman are heading downstairs. Roman asks Sami to walk him to the car and Carrie stays with Marlena is the house

Carrie: Sometimes I could kill her. she obviously needs help. she won't let anybody help her, at list not me. And the way she treats you, it disgust me

Marlena: We will get to the bottom of this. Just be patient, O.K.?

Carrie: O.K., I'll try. do you want me to make you something to eat, some breakfast, anything?

Marlena: I would love one of your breakfast, thank you

Carrie: O.K.

While Carrie is in the kitchen, Marlena calls Dr. Dorman

Marlena: Yes hi, Dr. Dorman? This is Marlena Evans...yes, we are colleagues at the hospital....thank you, I heard a lot of good things about your work too Carrie comes out of the kitchen and Marlena doesn't see her so she keeps her conversation with Dr. Dorman

Marlena: No, I'm not calling about myself, I'm calling about my daughter. I just realize that she's bulimic Carrie is shocked and Marlena see that she heard their conversation so she tells Dr. Dorman she'll call him back

Carrie: Sami is bulimic?

Marlena: I know, what a shock. Hard to believe that our sweet, funny little girl has a problem like that, isn't it?

Carrie: I'm so sorry. I thought Sami was being obnoxious about some boy. I feel so terrible

Marlena: I know, so do I

Carrie: No wonder she was acting so weird

Marlena: Well, that explains part of her behavior, not all of it

Carrie: What do you mean?

Marlena: Your sister is very deeply upset about something and it has to do with me somehow Sami comes in

Carrie: Sami, I'm so sorry I've yelled at you. Why didn't;t you tell me? I had no idea you're going through this Bulimia

Sami: you told her! How dare you? I can't believe you did this mother! And it is not true anyway. I am not bulimic, she is making a big deal out of nothing

Carrie: Sami, she didn't tell me, I over heard it. And it is a big deal, it is something very serious

Sami: Over heard it? Who was she telling?

Marlena: A therapist, someone I want you to go and see

Sami: Why won't you just leave me alone?

Marlena: Samantha, you and I had a agreement. I wouldn't tell your father about the problem if you will get some help with the eating disorder clinic, while you didn't go. You broke your promise so I don't have to keep it in my heart anymore

Sami: Please don't tell dad

Marlena: Sami, if we can't help you maybe your father can. He loves you. You have a very special bond. He will do anything for you

Sami: You are just trying to brake that bond. You want him to hate me. Believe me, if you'll tell him you'll be sorry, I won't be the only one disappointing him

Carrie: Sami, listen to me O.K.? You don't have to go through this alone, alright? We are the Brady girls and we can stick together, alright? I promise I'm gonna be there for you, I promise

Marlena: Carrie, didn't you volunteer to help the Hortons today?

Carrie: Yeah, Mrs. Horton is at the hospital with Jennifer and Abby and I said I'll volunteer

Marlena: I think you better go now

Carrie: O.K., Sami, it's O.K., alright? It's gonna be O.K. Carrie gives Sami a kiss and leave, while Sami start crying

Marlena: Sami, what is it? Just tell me what it is. Samantha, I know you're very angry and if you'll tell me why I could explain what happened or at list I can apologize to you. Just tell me why you are angry

Sami: I can't, I just can't

Marlena: Honey, remember when you were a little girl and you fell down and you hurt yourself? And I would pick you up and I kissed the scratch and make the hurt go away, remember that? Well, that is all I want to do now. All in the world I want to do is make the hurt go away. If I said something to you or have I did something to you that hurt you, please, please, please let me fix it for you. And Sami, if you're worried that what will you say might upset me or hurt me, I can promise that nothing, nothing you could say in the world would ever hurt me as much as seeing you this upset

Sami: I can't, I can't tell you mom. This is not possible

Marlena: Alright, O.K., just tell me how can I help you, I will do anything

Sami: Anything?

Marlena: You're my girl. Yes, I will do anything

Sami: Mom, you've got to give me another chance. Just one more chance. If you don't tell dad, I promise I'll go to therapy and I promise I'll try to get better, just please don't tell dad. Just give me one more chance

Marlena: Alright. It's all set. The doctor's name is Matthew Dorman. He is a specialist in eating disorders and he will see you at the hospital

Sami: O.K. mom, I swear I won't miss this appointment. You won't tell dad, will you?

Marlena: Honey, your whole family should be there for you. Look, your daddy loves you. He would never judge you

Sami: But the deal was that I'll go to therapy and you don't tell dad, right?

Marlena: I'm not telling your father mostly because he is so upset about Richy right now

Sami: Maybe I'll get better so fast that you won't ever have to tell him

Marlena: Maybe. Samantha, O.K., O.K., listen to me. I would promise that I won't tell your father without telling you

Sami: Thank you. and I will mom I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna get better O.K.?

Marlena: Honey, lets take it one step in a time, O.K.? Sami; What about the doctor, won't people notice if I'm gonna see a doctor who is specialist in this stuff?

Marlena: No, you'll be seeing him in my office, that way nobody will know

Sami: O.K.

Marlena: Sami, there is nothing to be ashamed of here. Do you know, if your father knew about what you were doing, he would be so proud of you. Just as proud as I am. I am proud of you not just because you're helping yourself, but because you're helping this family too

Sami: You don't know the half of what I've done for this family

Marlena: Oh sweat girl, I know, and I know how scary it is for you to go to therapy, but I know that you can do it. And the only thing that will make this work is for you to be honest with the therapist. You've got to tell him everything that's bothering you. Now, I'm gonna go to the office and talk to Dr. Dorman and fill him in first Marlena leaves and Sami stays alone and she whispers

Sami: How can I tell him everything that is bothering me? Sami went to her appointments, but in the middle of one of them she noticed that she forgot her diary at home. She was desperate to get back home before someone will read it. Meanwhile at home Marlena started to read the first page but she didn't read the rest and now Sami comes in. She yells at Marlena without knowing that Marlena read only the first page

Sami: I hope you're happy! I hope you're satisfied that you know everything! You couldn't stay out of it, could you? You were so worried about me, so determent to find out what was bothering me, so now you know!

Marlena: Samantha....

Sami: Now you know my only problem is with you!

Marlena: What is that mean?

Sami: Don't play dumb with me, you know what I'm talking about. You mess it up for all of us

Marlena: I don't know why you're angry

Sami: You read my diary, of course you know!

Marlena: No, I've began to read it because I was so worried about you. I thought that if I'll find out why you're so angry, but I couldn't do it. I couldn't betray your privacy like that

Sami: So you didn't read any of it?

Marlena: I wanted to, I tried to. All I read was the first page of it

Sami: you don't know then?

Marlena: I don't know, but I want to know. I want to know right now. what is bothering you? Why are you so angry at me? Samantha, tell me what have I done to drive you to Bulimia

Sami: Nothing

Marlena: Don't do that to me! don't shut me out! Just tell me right now!

Sami: I can't mom

Marlena: Yes you can, but maybe you misinterpret something I did or that I said

Sami: I did not misinterpret anything, I know exactly what you did

Marlena: Well, then tell me what it is before I go crazy, tell me!

Sami: Mom! Mom! You better stop, I mean what about the baby?

Marlena: The baby is fine, I'm fine, you're not fine and we're not fine. Don't you pull away from me like this, don't you do it!

Sami: Mom, I can not talk about this! Just leave me alone!

Marlena: Samantha! Don't go out. Please don't go out

Sami: Mom, I have to go back to the hospital

Marlena: No, you don't, not until we talk about this

Sami: Mom, I don't want to talk about it!

Marlena: Alright, fine, then you leave me no choice. I will call Dr. Dorman and demand family session - you, me and your father

Sami: No! You promised you wouldn't tell him

Marlena: I've promised you I wouldn't tell him unless I told you first. I'm telling you first now. It's gone too far, your father has to know about this

Sami: Mom, I'll get better. I'll tell Dr. Dorman everything

Marlena: Samantha...

Sami: But mom, you got to..you got to give me a chance to get over this Bulimia

Marlena: I mean it

Sami heads back to the hospital and tells Jamie about what just happened

Jamie: So..you got there on time before she read the diary?

Sami: She said she only read a page or two

Jamie: well do you believe her?

Sami: Yeah, I practically told her I knew she slept with John. She didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Sami asks Jamie to buy her a candy from the machine because she's afraid Dr. Dorman will see her near the machine. Eventually Jamie goes over to the machine. Sami stays alone in the room and she's beginning to feel dizziness and then she faint. After seeing this, Jamie knows exactly what she have to do. She have to tell Roman

Roman: Hi, Jai...

Jamie: I tried to do the right thing, I really tried to help. I tried so hard, but I can't do it by myself. I feel like a total traitor but I didn't know who else to turn

Roman: Woah, woah, woah, calm down...what are you talking about?

Jamie: Sami, she's in a big trouble

We don't see the scene where Jamie tells him about the Bulimia, but we just see what happened after she told him the truth

Jamie: Captain Brady I'm so sorry

Roman: Are you sure that you know what you're talking about Jamie? I mean, bulimia is very serious disorder and Sami...I can't believe it

Jamie: I wish it weren't true. I wish I could help her on my own so you wouldn't have to know, but there is no way. You're like this major hero to her so I figured maybe..maybe you could help her. She'll kill me for telling you, I'm sure of that, but I just can't watch her hurt herself anymore

Roman: Jamie, you know Sami's mom is a psychiatrist

Jamie: Yeah, but even she can't help Sami. I mean she's really trying, but Sami just won't listen to anyone

Roman: Are you telling me that Marlena knows about this?

Jamie: Yeah, she got Sami to go to a shrink, but Sami just keeps denying anything is wrong. God, you probably hate me too, but I didn't know what else to do

Roman: You did the right thing Jamie

Roman is very angry with Marlena right now because she kept Sami's bulimia from him when she knows how much honesty means to him

Marlena: I wanted her to admit she has bulimia and then dealing with that

Roman: I could have gotten her to go to a doctor

Marlena: No, she was too embarrassed, too ashamed. Roman, she doesn't want you to know about this. Many of them feels the same about their father, this is very common

Roman: You know how I felt when you kept Carrie's problems from me, and here you are, you are doing it again. You know how much honesty means to me. I mean, the thought that you could betray me like that, you could betray our relationship

Marlena: I was so desperate to help her

Roman: She is my daughter too, we could have help her together

Marlena: Maybe, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you

Roman: Well, you sure did a pretty good job of it Sami arrives home

Roman: Sami, come here

Sami: Hi daddy

Roman: Hey, hey, hey...everything is gonna be O.K. alright? Daddy is going to make everything alright again

Sami: What happened? Carrie hurt or Eric?

Roman: It's not Carrie, it's not Eric. Listen, I know about everything. Now, you don't have to pretend anymore. I know the truth, I know about the Bulimia

Sami: Dad, there is no way I could do anything that gross or disgusting

Roman: Sami, Bulimia is serious. I know that a lot of girls at your age suffer from it

Sami: there is no way, there is no way dad. It's not me, I swear it's not me

Roman: It's nothing to be ashamed of. Bulimia is an illness, but it's an illness that can be treated. I'm just sorry that I didn't pick up on the morning sides when you became obsess with this dieting thing. But listen, I know about it now and now we can deal with it together

Sami: I just want you to leave me alone

Roman: Sami, sweetheart, I....

Marlena: Roman, let me talk to her alone. Oh, please let me try to handle this

Roman: Oh, I'll let you handle it. I just can't believe you didn't tell me. I can't believe you betrayed me this way Roman leaves and Marlena sits near Sami

Marlena: Sami, lets talk about this sweaty

Sami: I wouldn't talk to you if you were the last person on earth

Marlena: Just let me explain what happened

Sami: Why did you broke your promise? You've broke your promise like every other promises you ever made. Maybe I have to start telling you a few things and then you'll be the one who is sorry

Marlena: What is that mean? What are you saying?

Sami: You figure it out!

Marlena: Oh, no you don't! You are not walking out of me again. You have spent weeks blaming me for your Bulimia. well, now I want to know why. I want to know the truth and I want it now!

Sami: You don't believe how much I want to tell you the truth

Marlena: Well, then tell me, I'd love to hear it

Sami: I want to know why you broke your word and told dad

Marlena: I never told your father

Sami: You're lying

Marlena: No, I'm not. I've always been honest with you

Sami: You? Honest? I know that is what you want everybody to believe, but I know it's not true. I know you're not the perfect wife and mother everybody thinks you are

Marlena: What are you implying now?

Sami: I know what you did!

Marlena: Well, tell me! Tell me, just tell me!

Sami: I know you made love to John, I saw you!

Marlena: How could you know?

Sami: I saw you! In the night of the "Titan" party

Marlena: What do you mean you saw us?

Sami: In the conference room! You didn't even care that dad was in the same building, that he could have seen you instead of me!

Marlena: Oh my god...

Sami: You can't denial it! I saw you! I saw you!

Marlena: Sami...

Sami: Do you know what it feels like to think about that night? To think about you and john together like that. How could you do that? How could you do that to dad? He's your husband! You went behind his back and you cheated on him! And then you smile at him and look him in the face and you hug him and you sleep next to him knowing what you did? I used to look up to you. I used to think you are just the most perfect person in the world. You're just a slut!

Marlena is crying and she's in shock from the things that Sami said

Sami: are you shocked that I called you a slut? Cause it's true! You have no moral at all! You didn't even care where you did it! You didn't even lock the door, you and John were so anxious to get up one another!

Marlena: Sami...

Sami: You didn't think about your family for a minute! Is John more important to you than us?

Marlena: No, no, I love my family

Sami: Then how could you do this? Not once but twice! The day of your anniversary mom, remember? I heard you and John talking about it! Why? You got to tell me, I gotta' know! You know, all this time I've been thinking that maybe you had a reason. Maybe John forced you or maybe you had too much to drink and it just happened, but that is not true, is it?

Marlena: No, honey, it is over. I swear it's over

Sami: What difference does that make? You did it! Dad loves you so much. He will do anything for you...anything, but you betrayed him

Marlena: Sami, listen to me. I can't justify what happened, I can't. It was wrong, but I love your daddy and I love this family and I love you

Sami: I don't want to hear it! You're a liar! You're just a liar!

Marlena: Oh my god, Sami, All you've been through, all your suffering and this Bulimia. Oh god, it's all my fault. Oh, honey, honey, it's O.K., I'll make it better. Look, no more lies. I'll tell your daddy everything. I'll tell him about this all

Sami: What? You can't do that!

Marlena: No, this is cost you enough already. You see, if your father knows then we will work this on as a family

Sami: we won't be a family if you'll tell him. He'll hate you for what you did and he'll hate me for telling you

Marlena: No, no, no, he will never hate you They hear a car arrives

Sami: It's dad, you can't say anything to him

Marlena: Sami, it's better if he knows. It cost you, you suffered enough

Sami: so why is dad have to suffer too? He'll be here in a second, promise me you won't say anything

Marlena: Look, this is made you bulimic, don't you want to get better?

Sami: I don't care about me, I only care about dad. I can't stand seeing him suffer. I'll eat more, I'll get myself sick

Marlena: No, oh Sami, don't. This is too dangerous, don't do that!

Sami: I fainted today at the hospital

Marlena: Oh my god...

Sami: I went right down the floor

Marlena: Oh honey, Oh god!

Sami: I know, it's because of my eating problem

Roman and Carrie enters the house

Sami: (Whisper) Don't tell him

Roman: Sami, come here sweetheart. Everything is gonna be O.K. I want to tell you, your sister and I, we just had a nice long talk and this problem you have, well, we gonna help you work through it. The whole family is gonna stay behind you on this because we love you, and I love you very much

Sami: I love you too daddy

Roman: I have to say I was a bit amazed when Jamie told me about this eating problem of yours

Sami: Jamie told you?

Roman: Yes, she did. But I don't want you to be mad at her, cause she's your friend and she was just worried about you Roman gives Sami a big hug

Roman: (to Marlena) And you...give me a hug. I am sorry that I got so angry at you. Do you forgive me?

Marlena: there is nothing to forgive. I am sorry, I never should have kept that from you. I should have told you the truth from the very first beginning

Roman: Well, the important thing is that this all behind us now, no more secrets, ah? We'll forget about it and we move on. Are you O.K.? you look kind of pale

Marlena: Oh yeah, I'm O.K.

Roman: I could kick myself for yelling at you the way I did when you are carrying our baby and all

Marlena: We're alright. The baby and I are both fine

Roman: I'm gonna make sure that the baby stays healthy. I will make sure all my kids are healthy, that's mean you too peanut (to Sami)

Sami: Dad...

Roman: Hey, hey, listen to me. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I know you didn't want to tell me about your problem, but you'll see it always better to keep thins thing out in the open. It is not good to keep secrets from the people you love

Carrie: We'll all help you Sami

Roman: we'll all help you, O.K.?

Marlena sits

Roman: Hey, are you O.K.?

Marlena: I'm fine

Sami: Dad, I'm really sorry. I just didn't want to see you get hurt. I mean, I'd rather do anything than to hurt you

Roman: Oh, come her, listen to me, don't worry about me, O.K.? You just start thinking about your own health, understand?

Marlena: Sami, you know, it has become a long day and you've been through a lot, why don't you go into bed?

Sami: I'm not tired

Carrie: Come on Sami, I'll go up with you. I want to spend some time with you before I leave

Though Sami recovered from the Bulimia in 1993, it was not a fully recovering. Sami showed Bulimia signs again in 1994. It was in the time that Marlena was Stefano's prisoner in Maison Blanche. Sami didn't know Stefano is keeping Marlena in a dungeon, she thought her mom and John are having a wonderful time together in New Orleans. Sami needed Marlena so much, because she was a victim of date-rape. Sleazy Alan Harris raped her. It wasn't a big storyline like it was when she first had the Bulimia.

Thanks to Yael Tsell for witing thise storyline and for the pics.
