Days Questions (Without Answers) Pt. 2

Where is Salem?

I think Salem is located in the midwest, probably in Salem, Illinois. (For publicity purposes, Salem, Illinois was chosen as the official Salem in 1995, to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary, but this does not mean that the characters live in Illinois). The characters have gone to Chicago and Cleveland for many years, as if they are just a short distance away. The Chicago Cubs have also been referred to many times. Characters have gone to Cubs games, and even Bulls games I think. In August, 1997, when Carrie and Mike took a train from LA to Salem, Carrie slept through four states. If they went straight east, that put them in at least Missouri. If Carrie fell asleep after they had already gone through Nevada, that would put them in Illinois. They also made the trip overnight, so they couldn't have gone much farther than the midwest.

An update to the above statement...when Roark Critchlow appeared in Salem, Illinois at the 1997 Days Fest and Fanfare, he confirmed that Salem is supposed to be located in Illinois. He pointed out a recent situation where Jennifer drove from Chicago to Salem in the rain. I do wonder if this is just a conclusion he's drawn, or if the show is now admitting that their Salem is in Illinois.

I think that Salem is in Fairfield County Connecticut. Why? Well, 2 reasons.... 1) the 'tri-state area' thing... NY, NJ & CT are frequently referred to as the Tri-State Area. 2) around 9/95 when Bo was divorcing Hope so that he could marry Billie, there was a scene in a Post Office with a mail guy holding an envelope addressed to Bo or Hope and he said something like "Looks like someone else in Salem is getting another divorce...Isn't Santa Rosa where people go for those quickie divorces?" Anyway...the zip code on the envelope was 068-something which is the zip code starter for Fairfield County CT. (MintCure)

Salem is located somewhere in the midwest, according to NBC. It is located near a river and a lake, probably near one of the Great Lakes. The zip codes for Salem all begin with 066. The area code for Salem is (909). My best guess as to where Salem is in in Illinois, near the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan. (Jarrett Welsh)

I recently read that New Hampshire is the Green Mountain State. Could it be a coincidence that Carrie and Austin frequent the Green Mountain Lodge, or does this provide a clue to Salem's location? (Anca)

It seems to me that Salem may be Salem, Ohio. The size of the town would be just about right, and Salem, Ohio is not very far from the Penn border where it could hook up with the Ohio River. Lake Erie would be about 1.5 hours away. So would Cleveland. They mention Cleveland and Chicago a lot, and both are quite close. Salem, Ohio is also a rather green area that is near the Appalatian mountains (green mountain lodge) and has lots of country-type area around it. (Jennifer Evans)

Sami recently threatened to sell the blackmail pictures of Kate to "the Tribune." The newspaper in Chicago is the Chicago Tribune--could they be one in the same? (Jamie)

If Salem is in the midwest then how can they be so close to the Grand Canyon? And the mountains? And Chicago? (Squirt)

Tell me, how is it possible that Salem (according to NBC) is supposed to be the Salem in Illinois? Sure at one time or another there were references to the local paper, sports teams and whatnot. But people are constantly going to the Horton cabin on Smith Island. Can you explain that? I heard that the island is supposed to be in the middle of a lake, but whenever Hope, Bo, Billie, Franco or whoever went swimming, there seemed to be waves crashing LOUDLY on the shore. I always thought Salem would be somewhere on the east coast, like the one in New Jersey or Massachusetts. I mean it makes more sense--The Bradys had a fish market which then turned into a pub with the specialty being Brady chowder, and that sounds very much like a New England type thing to me. Also, Abe or Bo at one time made a refernece as Salem being near the tri-state area. I think NBC should change the official Salem to either Jersey or Mass. (JC)

Salem's area code is 909, which would make Salem be in Southern California just east of L.A., where there are no lakes and no rivers (unless you count the trickle that used to be the Santa Ana). This would definitely not be considered any sort of tristate area since Baja is closer than the closest neighboring state. I think it would be a neat trick to have a pier in the middle of the desert, but the writers should have done better than pick the area code of the neighboring area. (Jennifer)

If Salem is a "small town in the Midwest" how could the jungle crew get from the ocean to Salem by boat? They had to be in the ocean because John's cell phone wouldn't work because of salt water. (Jennifer S.)

I realize that Salem is a fictitious city - not even the writers know its location, but what about the following inconsistencies (what else is new?). Your site, and John, recently on the submarine, have referred to Salem as a "dinky midwestern town", but in the past scenes from the Penthouse Grill's balcony, we have seen Salem as a sizable city with tall buildings. If Salem is a midwestern city, how did Bo's boat, Fancy Face, before it was burned, have seemingly ready access to the ocean, and it was a relatively large boat. Also, two or three years ago, at the end of June, a couple of episodes showed a close-up of an envelope addressed to Det. Bo Brady, Salem Police Dept. (I think), Salem, (no state given), but with a ZIP Code. I don't have the entire ZIP code any more, but I remember that the first two digits were 06. Even if the 06 was fictious, the 0 would place Salem in the New England area in the eastern U.S., and this location would also be consistent for Bo's boat to have had ready access to the ocean. I would specifically name this location as Salem, Mass. But going back again in recent history when Carrie and Mike were attending a medical convention in Los Angeles (we know that's on the west coast!), and they had to return home suddenly but couldn't take a plane because of inclement weather, they came back by train which was a "5 hour trip", so it was said. Whoa now! Not even a nonstop Japanese "bullet train" could get from LA to the midwest or New England in five hours. Not even by plane, unless perhaps it was on an Air Force SR-71 Blackbird jet. Well, this is my tiny contribution about the show, and believe it or not, I'm trying to ignore the whole thing. (G. Robert McLean)

In May 2000, on the way to Green Mountain Lodge, Eric and Greta stopped at a diner and it was located in Louisana. So maybe Salem is in the midwest?? (Monica)

I believe Salem is located in the New England region, mabe Vermont, New Hampshire or Massachusetts. I remeber John saying something to Belle about all of the ice cream in Vermont making her feel better. And isn't Philip going to college in New York and Shawn and Belle in a state not to far from Salem? And how can Salem be in Illinois if Bo and Hope sail on the Fancy Face 2 off the pier in Salem where the waves crashing are oddly loud to be a lake??? And the jungle crew got to Salem by boat in the ocean. The reason John's cellphone wasn't working was because of the salt water. The Brady's also have a fish market. And Brandon, Nicole, Colin, and Jenn went to the Green Mountain Lodge, and isn't Vermont the Green Mountain State??? (Taylor)

On one of the shows, Chole's doctor talked about sending her to Salem, "a little town located in the Midwest". (Melissa)

The telephone numbers all have area code 909 which is a CA Area Code. What's up with that?? (Allen)

Forgotten/Unresolved Storylines

What were the deep dark secrets of Aremid that were supposed to destroy everyone's lives in Salem? All they found out was that Stephano was Lexie's father, and nobody cared much about that piece of news. And why did Rachel Blake write Jennifer's name on tombstones and try to murder her? (Nina9)

What about Benjamin's father and the beautiful baby contest? We never found out who his father was and why Wendy was dodging the subject. Just when Jonah and Wendy were appearing in Salem more than once every two weeks, the whole issue was dropped and the trio disappeared.

Why are the idiot writers now trying to make us like Franco? When he first came on the show he was supposed to be this incredibly evil character, takling about "the plan" on his cell phone every two minutes to his mystery boss. Have the writers forgotten? I mean, every time he's on now he's cavorting with Billie pining over their lost loves. HELLO, did everyone forget he killed Andre on that island? What ever hapened to THAT? (Carlos Torres)

What was it with the mysterious music and drawing of a lady that would hypnotize John. Who was that? It was never truly explained that this was the same person as the Lady in White. (Denise and Dean Lollis)

What about why Rachel called John, "Johnny?"

What happened with Vivian's interest in Titan? For months, she was trying to obtain the reins from Kate. When she finally got Kristen to vote for her at the Stockholder's meeting, she just up and dumped her responsibilities. (Robert)

Whatever happened to Sami's problem with bulimia? Was she magically cured without therapy? Isn't that a problem one faces for life? (Nora Kinkaid)

Remember when Stefano made all those Marlena clones and sent them around the country? Whatever happened to THAT storyline? They never resumed it. So right now, there are dozens of Marlenas, walking around, and living their lives, all around the country. (Meghan)

What happened to the tiara Jennifer found in the tunnel in Paris? (Laura Peterson)

Whatever happened to those memories Greta had when we still knew her as Swamp Girl? It was during the time Bo and her were in the bayou and Bo was still trying to get her to trust him. Everytime she heard the song "Tonight I celebrate my love", she used to have memories of dancing with someone (maybe Bo). The writers kind of lead us to believe that she could be Hope. Whatever happened to THAT? And isn't it weird that EVERY SINGLE TIME Bo turned on the radio, THAT song was playing? (Chadi Ghafari)

Mickey the Lawyer

What is the deal with Mickey? Is he like Mike and specializes in ALL kinds of law? If memory serves, he has defended just about everyone in Salem at one time or another. (Shannon Murray)

While Mickey has been hired to defend numerous Salemites, I don't think he's ever won a case the first time around. All of his clients end up going to jail, or don't get the annulments they are looking for, until he does a lot of legal maneuvering or the cops dig up some more info. Why do people keep going to him for help?

In a murder case, isn't there ALWAYS an autopsy done on the body? If they had done one on Peter, they would have discovered he was alive, or else they would have killed him by doing the autopsy on him. (I don't think anyone can survive an autopsy). If Mickey knows anything about the law, he should have brought this up at Jack's trial and the case probably would have been thrown out for a lack of evidence. (Allison Sinoski)

Why is Mickey so firm on the position that Sami and Austin's wedding cannot be annulled as long as Sami doesn't regain her memory? He is supposed to be the best lawyer in Salem (They must be really hard up there). Wasn't he the one who suggested to Julie that she just simply go to Mexico when she wanted a divorce from Doug. He has a pretty bad memory for a lawyer. (kollman)

In all the years of being the only lawyer in town, has Mickey Horton ever won a case? Sami is now going to jail. John went to jail and was almost put to death. Marlena almost went to jail (the DA dropped the charges, for shooting Stefano. I would not want him representing me in a legal case. (Joan Rogers)

See a list of Mickey's cases here

Salemites forgotten and remembered

Where in the hell are all of these characters that just disappear? And how many of them are there? (Linda DuBourg)

Why is it that past characters are forgotten until it's time for them to return to Salem? For example: Remember when Bo and Carly were so in love together? There was rarely a mention of Hope and certainly Bo did not feel guilty about being with Carly. Suddenly, when he and Billie were getting together, he visited Hope's memorial grave and he started having memories of her and guilty feelings. He and Billie even talked about it and she was scared of losing him to her memory. Then, *poof* appears Gina/Hope at Masion Blanche during the party being held there. Strange isn't it?? (Jenny)

Why is it that Jill just up and left without a word one day and no one seems to have missed her [not even Franco]? I'd think someone would've been curious as to what happened to her. (Cagney)

Whatever happened to Father Francis? Last we saw, he was in the hospital, recovering from a stroke and now no one mentions him. Only other priests are mentioned. Poor Fr. Francis!! He helped John and Doc and now they forgot him!! And how can they, when they are all in the hospital hanging out on a daily basis!! Couldn't they visit him? (Molly Green)

Whatever happended to Sami's friend Jamie? One day she was volunteering at the hospital as a candy striper, and then she was gone, never to be seen again. I thought a romance was brewing between her and Lucas. (Erin Manning)

If Vivian was so close to Lawrence when he was on the show, why didn't she leave him anything in her will? Also, when she thought she was dying, she could have called Lawence for help and given him power of attorney. (Choade1)

What happened to Taylor Walker? She was Nicole's sister until Brandon, their brother, showed up. Why isn't she at any of the family reunions? (711Tigger)

Good vs. Evil

Why is it that the only people who ever get what they want (even if only for a short time...) are evil, rotten, mean people? (ie: Kristen, Sami, & Vivian) Why is it that all the rest of them are spineless wimps? Look at Carrie. If I were her, I would have beaten Sami to a bloody pulp for all the nastiness that she has dealt out over the years. Marlena is just as bad. Problematic pregnancy or not, being a "doctor," she should know that with all of today's technological medical advances, that Kristen's "baby" could have been saved even if he were born prematurely. I would have narced Kristen off months ago!!! (Shannon Murray)

Why does Vivian insist that she and Victor had this great, long, passionate affair? I don't seem to remember them being involved for very long. (Molly Green)

I wonder how the Salemites can hate someone one minute and then embrace them the next. Characters like Victor and Celeste were so evil, but now they're loved. Doesn't anyone remember how Victor treated Kim or Carly, or even his own son, Bo? Have we forgotten that Jack once raped Kayla? We should all be so forgiving. (Aviva)

Why is it that as soon as Sami got her memory back she could suddenly walk? [She and Stefano were somehow struck by that magical electricity that cures both these ailments. Would our favorite hero or heroine ever be cured in this way? No, because only evil people are cured quickly, so they can get back to their evil ways.] (Amanda Summers with my additional questions)

Why can't the 'bad' characters move on? Such as Kristen, Sami, Lucas, and Stefano. I think one slap in the face is enough for me to forget someone, it seems neverending for these characters. (QANQAN)

What are we supposed to do with the Franco storyline about the beatings and rapes of women in Salem, followed by a dastardly murder of the guy on the island, and Jill running away, etc, etc, etc......... Are we supposed to believe that was all part of Kate's plan to get Bo and Hope separated? (Laura Peterson)

Love

Where do the Salemites get there definition of true love? John and Kristen, Sami and Austin, Viv and Vic, Peter and Jenn. The only couples that are actually in love that don't lie day in and day out to each other are the ones who are apart. John and Doc, Austin and Carrie, Bo and Hope. (D Somich)

How can Marlena tell Carrie to let Austin pretend to love Sami when she knows how much it hurts to be in love with a man you can't have? Why does Carrie, who has never done anything wrong, have to give up her life for her evil sister, who only does mean things, just because she can't remember anything? (Rachelle Bryant)

Does Kate realize she's a hypocrite? She keeps telling Lucas that Carrie should not be with him because he can't make her love him. Yet, on the other hand, she keeps telling Billie to hang on to Bo and that he will eventually forget Hope. (Carolyn Fallon)

Why is it that the men always gets to have two woman lust over them? (examples Hope/Bo/Billie, Sami/Austin/Carrie, Kristan/John/Marlena) Why can't woman get obsessed over? We are finally finding that Franco loves Hope, and Lucas Loves Carrie...I guess it is a start. (KGibler)

Why dosen't Carrie stand up for herself? She seems to think that Marlena is amazing because she told John about Kristen. Why can't she do the same to Sami about Austin. She should show a little spine/backbone! J/M/K is basically the same plot as A/C/S when you think about it. (Shelley Young)

People in Salem are always in love with someone. Some people can search their whole lives to find one true love but Salemites have many, many loves of their lives. Why is that? I'd love to have their good fortune!! (Kara117)

I'm tired of Austin and Carrie not talking to each other. Why do they insist on keeping them together when all they do is make assumptions about the other's feelings and pine away for the simple reason that they don't communicate at all? Mike and Carrie obviously have such a healthy relationship (geez, they're FRIENDS!! What a concept...)--is there some law in Salem against having a normal, caring relationship and some happiness in your life? (Chris)

What IF Billie Married Roman. She would be her ex-husband's sister-in-law for starters. She would be her brother's Mother-in-law and Carries' Sister-in-law and Mother-In-law And...step-mother. She would also be Sami's Step-mother. And since Will is her half-brother's child, as well as Roman's grandson he would be her Grandson as well as her nephew. I think maybe it might be wise NOT to pair, Roman and Billie. Roman and Kate? Not much better. Roman would be his daughter's father-in-law and Kate would be her son's Mother-in-law.. Kate would also be step-mama to Carrie and Sami and Eric. And Roman would be step-dad to Lucas and Billie and Will. This would make Carrie and Austin , Sami and Lucas and Eric and Billie step-Brothers and Sisters Will's Mom and dad would be his uncle and aunt and his grandparents would also be his step grandparents. Actually I think it would be better to find Roman a romance somewhere outside Salem. (Doris Riley)

Someone tell Billie to get a life! She wastes all her time worrying about Bo and how she hates Hope, because Bo always runs to her. So Billie blames Hope. Well, it seems to me that Bo has SELF-CONTROL. He decides what he wants to do, so why is Hope to blame for that? She is really turning into a nasty character. She should put more effort into her career at Titan. (Kate Campbell)

Weddings and Marriage

When Jennifer married Lawrence her marriage was legal even though she didn't use her real name (she used Carly's). When Marlena married John (even though he didn't use his real name) and Roman had already been declared dead, their marriage wasn't considered valid...why isn't it? (Lori)

What about John's marriage to Susan (as Kristen)...valid or invalid? I guess the writers just alter the law to favor whomever they want to.

What is the big deal about breaking marriage vows? If Kristen had not married John in the first place (and she promised not to) Marlena would have told him how she felt and he would not have made the vows in the first place. Besides, divorces are commonplace now. Roman divorced Marlena because of John, so why can't John divorce Kristen for Marlena? (CoffyScoop)

Why is Vivian considered Victor's wife? That priest told Marlena that if someone was decieved in the ceremony that would make the marriage invalid, and since Victor had no idea he was even getting married, isn't their marriage really nonexistent? (Sarah Swendsen)

John and Marlena are lying to Roman about them being engaged, but is Roman just plain stupid, or what? Doesn't he see the diamond engagement ring on her finger? He's crazy not to notice it! It's in plain sight. (Kristen)

This really bugs me. I don't understand why Bo and Hope didn't just get married. Here's the little scenario: Remember when Bo went down to Santa Rosa to surprise Hope while she was doing modeling with Franco? Well, he walked into her room, and Hope and Franco were in the same bed, and Hope looked like she was cuddling with him. Supposedly because a pipe burst in Franco's room. Bo walked in and didn't jump to any conclusions. He listened to Hope's explanations and he trusts her. So why can't Hope do the same for Bo? It was exactly the same scenario when Hope walked in on Smith Island to see Bo and Billie cuddling. Yet she didn't want to hear Bo's explanations. How unfair. I love Bo and Hope as a pair, but I think they are extremely juvenile in this manner. Billie wouldn't even be pregnant now if Hope had just married Bo! (Kate Campbell)

Why is is that every time Sami and Austin were getting remarried, she went shopping for a new dress? What was wrong with the first dress that she bought? I think the only person that was getting married for the second time and didn't get a new dress was Carrie. When she and Austin were finally getting married, she asked Kate to go home and pick up her dress and bring it to the church for her. Salemites must have high paying jobs to keep buying new wedding dresses. (S. Drover)

Why is an annulment appropriate at some times and a divorce appropriate at others? How do they decide? (Carly)

Salem Place

Why is it that everyone conducts their private business in broad daylight in the middle of Salem Place? Peter used to do it all the time and now Kristen does too. Maybe it's just a Blake thing (perpetuating the vicious circle of lies and deceit), although Franco has taken to it, and Kate, Sami and Lucas... You can bet that if I saw anyone in Salem talking on their cell phone in the mall, I'd be listening in! Yet no one does. Abe and Bo could catch every evil-doer in Salem if they just wised up. (Julie Smallwood)

Prison and the law

When Jenn visited Jack for the first time in jail, Jack said, "Jenn, what are you doing here, I didn't think I was ever going to see you again!" What, doesn't this jail have visting hours? Is Jack in solarity confinement? If he is such a bad guy that he can't have visitors, then why was he given so much lee-way in spending his "last night of freedom" at Jenn's house. AND, why was he just standing around in the jail not hand-cuffed, and why was Jenn able to walk right up to him to give him the pictures? (Kristin)

Jack always is using the phone in jail. He never uses any change or calls collect. Since when is it free to use the phone in jail? (Maka)

Salem has a pretty harsh justice system. Jack goes to jail for life and he never had a jury trial? I guess the Constitution is suspended in Salem. (Liberty Blend)

Is Jack an inmate at J. Crew Correctional Institution? I've never seen such good looking prisoners in such preppy little outfits. (Liberty Blend)

Jack was sentenced to life without parole. Obviously, he should be in a maximum security prison. Then why are the prisoners able to roam freely in and out of their cells and even share cell phones? (Anca)

How did Kristen go to the Carribbean to get Roman but didn't get arrested for violating her bail? Earlier they mentioned she could be denied her bail if she left the country. (Jennifer Syvertson)

Why is it that even after commiting criminal offenses against each other, the criminals and victims attend the same social functions? It appears that Kristen will never go to trial for kidnapping Marlena, and she still hangs around John and Marlena. I forgot, they live in the legal "twilight zone" of Salem (Jeff White)

When the whole town of Salem went to Aremid, the town was practically barren right? They all had to stay at the same inn, and there were no stores, restaurants, or buildings of any kind....so, why is it then that it all of a sudden had a gas chamber? (ann-marie) Laura visited Jack in prison and showed him her gun. Hello! Visitors are searched for concealed weapons. (From SOD)

How is is that Larry is able to sue Abe after all these years have gone by since the shooting? Hasn't Salem ever heard of the statute of limitations? In most personal injury cases, you only have one year from the date of the injury to sue someone for it! I guess Salem has an unlimited statute! Also, Brandon's case againt the Salem P.D. sure did come up for hearing awfully quick. In the real world, something like that takes 1, 2 or 3 years to settle or go to trial! (Robin)

Jack was a convicted murderer but was still given permission to attend his ex-wife's funeral. Peter - granted we don't really know what he's in jail for, but it's not murder - couldn't attend his only SISTER's funeral! What kind of laws do they have in Salem? (Zinnia)

I want to know why the killer was able to break into the house and torch materials the night Abe died. Why wasn't it still a crime scene since all the evidence had obviously not been processed, why were either CSIs not combing the interior or at least a police guard? How did Salem police not have someone on patrol outside and someone inside finishing processing the scene? (DeAnn)

Super Cops and Detectives

When the police are looking for a missing person don't they usually check at the local hospital for any JANE DOE'S?? (Renee Schrift)

Why didn't Bo put Jill's picture in the hospital or on the news or something? (Mary George)

Why doesn't Bo retrieve the phone records from Franco's cellular phone to find out who is boss is? Franco is always on the phone and being secretive when Bo catches him. (Kim Montgomery)

Why does everyone commit criminal acts and the law enforcement people ignore them? What about Vivian drugging that pilot that caused Kate's plane to crash? Isn't that attempted murder? Or what about when she and Ivan escaped from that French prison? Shouldn't someone have noticed that they are missing by now? Or are all the people in France as clueless as those in Salem? (Erik Marum)

At the John/Kristen wedding, the place was covered in cops who were supposed to watch out for Stephano. How did they let him get by, even when at least three of them talked to him up close and personal? Didn't super commander Abe brief them on who to look for? A big fat guy with a strong accent. Hard to miss. A thick beard would not have fooled smart cops. But the Salem PD is everything but smart. (anca)

Why is it that regular residents of Salem can act as police officers? John is always in on interrigations, even though he has never officially had any training and was stripped of his title when Roman (who is suddenly a cop again) came back. Also, Lexie is often in Abe's office when he is interrigating someone. She was actualy a cop, but left the force AND her title, but is still allowed in on official police buisness? (Kevin)

Here's the most obvious way to clear Sami of killing Franco: Do a Paraffin test on her hand for traces of gunpowder to see if she fired a gun that day...but the Salem P.D. would never think of that, would they? (CaasiL)

Do the people working for the Salem PD actually have to go to the Police Academy??? Because it occurs to me that in Monday's show (July 1, 2002) John described in detail how he broke into the mansion and stole something. Breaking and Entering, Theft, these are crimes they teach you about in the Academy. Why is it that John can get away with it just because it's the Dimera mansion?? (T-Pod)

Bo and Hope always talk about all the crimes Stefano's commited yet they don't see any problem with breaking into his house and stealing some of his personal property! For two cops (even if it is an ex.) wouldn't this be a huge deal? Couldn't they just have gotten a search warrant or something instead of intentionally BREAKING THE LAW!? (Zinnia)

Hair, Makeup and Wardrobe

Contact Days makeup & wardrobe!!! Stranded on an island? Don't worry, your hair always looks fabulous when you wake up.. It even changes perms, curls, straightens, and crimps by itself when there's no time. Trapped in an avalanche? Don't worry, lipstick never smudges, hair never loses that special bounce, and dark eyeshadow still looks great. Even in the hospital, one's nails always look perfect. A two-week long coma does nothing to the polish on them.(Kate Galbreath)

Who dreams up the outfits that some of these characters wear? (Laurie Rubin)

Why is it that the women of Salem (A few examples: Kate, Laura, Vivian, Doc) are always wearing business suits? We have already concluded that they never work. Don't they ever just sit around the house (drinking tea) in a sweat suit? (Sally Engelbrecht)

Do Salem people have an endless wardrobe? I have never seen anyone where anything twice. They always were the nicest clothes. I dont now about you but sometimes I just love my sweatpants. (Maka)

Has anyone noticed that Hope usually changes her clothes everytime she leaves the house, yet when Shawn-D. was shot she was in the hospital in that evening gown for about a week? And she's quite a wizard with her own hair. I've certainly never known anyone who could whip her hair up so quickly with such skill and in the very next scene have it down and perfectly coiffed again. (Liberty Blend)

As soon as couples wake up in the morning the first thing they do is kiss! Doesn't anybody care about morning breath? (Amanda Summers)

Why does Kate wear fur to every occasion, and just sit around the house in jewels and a fur? How many people spend days lurking outside a hospital room and can stand wearing the same fur coat? (Kevin McGinley)

When Hope was still Gina, and she still didn't even know who she was for sure, and didn't have a job, didn't have access to the "Hope trust money", because no one knew who she really was, and she's wore outfits that cost around $700!!!!! Even people with a dual income, couldn't afford that! But no! no! no! Penniless Gina/Hope can mope around in it! (Julie)

Why was it that when Billie and Hope showed up at the same store to buy dresses, they were different sizes, but when it came to the wedding dress, Billie wore the same dress that Hope wore at the shoot, with no mention of alterations? (Paula)

How in the world did Marlena get her hair in that ponytail in the secret room? Did she happen to have a thing in her pocket that made her hair longer? (KGibler)

Why is it that no matter what people are doing, whether it's sex or a coma, they always have this perfect make-up job? In the early mornings--not only do they have make-up on, but they just start making out...hello, morning breath? And by the way no one showers, they bathe. But seriously, how many showers have there been recently???? (Simona)

When Lawrence dug Carly up when she was buried alive, she was still as beautiful as always. Nobody could keep their hairstyle for days like that. Also, given that she she had been there for days (as well as from the time she "died" until the burial), wouldn't she smell by not having a bath in that length of time? And where did she go to the bathroom? (TMTSoapop)

This is what bugs me...Remember when Hope was kidnapped by Jude Sinclair? I don't remember not one stray eye brow growing back and needing to be plucked. How unbeleiveable is that???? (Lauren Grant)

Did you wonder how Swamp Girl, who hasn't brushed her wild curly hair in years, can cut it off and have it turn out perfectly straight? That bayou water and mud must be a great conditioner! (From SOD, fall 1998)

A number of Days Hair bloopers... Did anybody notice that Hope stopped at the hair salon in between her confrontation with Billie at the graveyard and going to tell Bo the truth? What about Carrie coloring her hair on the flight to Italy and John getting a hair cut between leaving the living room and going to his wedding (to Susan). The best one was when John..as Roman...and Diana Coleville went to Peru and Diana got locked in jail with straight hair. When John came to get her out the next day she had a new Perm...even he (Roman) commented on it. (Doris Riley)

Last week I woke up to find a pimple on my chin. It was no big deal really, but I had going around with a big red thing on my face. So I applied my make-up and did my best at covering it up. I am telling you right now, I wish that I had some of the Countess Wilhemina (sp?) products that Billie used on Greta in the Bayou because she covered that puffy red scar right up. You wouldn't have even known it was there. So why can't I cover up a tiny blemish??? Salem makeup must be magic.... (Hollykaye0)

I find it hard to believe that while Hope was "Gina" and under Stefano's control, that she had the blonde streak in her hair exactly where it is now. We're talking about, what, 5-6 years ago, and we're supposed to believe that she had hair like that with a skunk streak in it? Come on. What's even more ludicrous, is that neither Hope "Gina" or Stefano are made to look like it "was back in that time." The least they could do to Stefano would be to get him into his island attire or his usual attire, not a tux with a sash. And Hope in the flashbacks looks exactly like she does today. It'd be nice to see her hair tousled or something to make us see that that was what she looked like back in 1993 or so. And how did she get that streak out of her hair after she came back to Salem as "Gina?" So many questions...too bad DAYS isn't providing us with the answers. (Kate Campbell)

Sami is about a size 12 and the security guard that was outside her hospital room was about a size 2 and yet the guard's uniform fit her perfectly. Did the clothes magically grow? The uniform is baggy on Sami even? Also, how is it that Sami is on death row and can still get manicures done so that her nails look perfect? (Julie Eddy)

Does Kate have any casual clothing? That woman would wear a suit to have breakfast in her own house on a Saturday. And she always just "has" clothes available, like that dress to wear to the Salem High dance. Doesn't everyone have another wardrobe ready at work? (Carly)

How could Hope, having had her ankles handcuffed together by Jude up in the mountain cabin, manage to change her clothes and put jeans on, without removing the cuffs?? (Juz)

Sometimes it seems that the stylists are bored and/or have very short memory - why else would Lucas have worn the EXACT same wig and false goatee in 2001 that Peter wore in 1998!? (Zinnia)

Peter's disguise

Lucas' disguise

Why is it that all of the women in Salem have several winter coats that go with every outfit they own? I have one basic black wool coat & one other sports team logo jacket & that's it. And on the other hand all the poor men in Salem have one winter jacket that we've seen on them for years! (Mary Anne)

Why didn't I think of that? (also known as "Duh")

Why does JL King care whether Bo really loves Billie or Hope? If he really wants to get to Bo, why not just threaten to kill both of them and cover all the bases? (Liberty Blend)

Bo has to pretend to be in love with Billie to keep J.L. King from finding out he is working undercover but he is hurting Hope every time he pretends to be in love with Billie. Why doesn't he just "pretend" to break up with Billie. At least that would keep Hope from seeing them "in love". And If Hope is an ex-cop, couldnt Bo just explain to her whats going on, and the danger that exists if she gets involved. The only reason Hope is getting involved now is because she thinks Bo isn't doing anything about it. (Zeebo)

Why would J. L. King kill Bo if he found out he is with Hope? People are fickle, sometimes they break up with one person and get together with an ex. It doesn't seem to me that Bo's being with Hope would prove in anyway that he is working undercover for the cops. (Steve Aikens)

When Austin & Carrie first found out Sami was pregnant (she was 17 then!) why didn't Austin IMMEDIATELY demand a blood test? He should have right there in the church! Even though he's cute, he's still stupid... (MintCure)

Why does everyone in Salem think that Kristen is the sweetest person? Peter and Tony did not escape Stefano's evil. Why should she? (CoffyScoop)

Austin and Sami can't get an annulment until she remembers everything, correct? And Sami may or may not remember everything whether they tell her the truth or not....so I have a proposition: Tell her everything, and if it causes her to regress, forget the annulment. Get a DIVORCE! Are divorces legal in Salem? I mean, not that I encourage divorce, but it's not like these folks are of the highest moral quality, and I think in this case it's quite warranted. Of course, it's Duh-Austin and his pet rock, Carrie we're talking about here, so who'd expect a thought-out solution... (Missy)

Why doesn't Laura get some proof instead of ranting like a lunatic? If Jennifer wants to find some way to get Jack out of prison, why doesn't she use some of her investigative journalism skills to help Laura prove her point. Either Jennifer can prove to Laura she needs help or she gets Jack out. (Jeff White)

When Kristen found out she miscarried, why didn't she just get artifical imsemination? Then they could have dragged out the storyline even longer and she wouldn't have had that wacky Susan to worry about. All there 'd be to worry about is hoping it would look like John. (Frank)

Why, oh why, would Sami walk into a hospital when she's supposed to be paralyzed??? Especially if she used to be a Candy Striper there, her mom has an office there, her doctor works there (Mike Horton) who just happens to have a thing for her sister. People will obviously know who she is and it would get around that Sami is walking again. I would have at least thought she would disguise herself! Didn't she realize that Austin might notice she was gone? (Amanda Summers and Jenny Reid)

Just a thought about Sami going to change Will's blood type on the hospital computer (even though she didn't succeed). Doesn't she realize that if she changed it & he needed blood, they would give him the wrong blood type & probably KILL him??? She knows enough about blood types to know this. And this is supposed to be a loving Mother?? (Peggie)

Why...oh why don't Austin and Carrie learn to ignore Sami and not trust ANYTHING she does or says so they can be together? It always seems like Sami has the upper hand because Austin is so STUPID and believes everything he hears or sees. If I was Carrie I would slap some sense into him and move to another state. (QANQAN)

How is it that no one noticed that Aremid is actually DiMera spelled backwards? (Curtina Keen)

How come no body has been able to figure out that it's not really Susan that's married to Edmund. Susan has a tattoo of Elvis on her ankle, Kristen does not. It was such a big part of the storyline when Susan was pretending to be Kristen and trying to marry John. She tried to hide her ankle from John when he gave her the anklet. Do the people in Salem (including Edmund) think that tattoos can disappear, or did Susan conveniently has the tattoo removed by laser surgery! (Julie)

Re: Nicole and this "Jay" person-if she wants him to stay away from her-why doesn't she do what the rest of us would do and get a restraining order from the police? Any cop (and we all know there are plenty in Salem) would be willing to give her one. Also, I guess it hasn't occured to her to just NOT READ HIS E-MAILS. Nobody is forcing her to respond to him...Maybe if she ignores him, he'll go away... (Stephanie Allison)

Salem Homes

In 1986, Orpheus blew up Roman and Marlena's home, just after he kidnapped Marlena. The house was rebuilt, with a few modifications. There had been a bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs, which was taken out, leaving an opening, so one could see the living room when walking down the stairs. Amazingly, this seemed to be the only work the Brady home needed. In addition, the beloved possessions of Roman and Marlena survived the incident. The wine goblets, a box of Marlena's clothing, many pics of them and the family, Christmas tree ornaments, and Roman's fishing hat all were unharmed in the massive explosion.

How is it that the cute little cottage that Jack and Jennifer bought that was just right for a small family starting out is now large enough to have at least six bedrooms: Jennifer's, Jack's, Abby's, Mike's, Laura's and now Lynn's. I sure wish my house was like theirs. (Theresa Miller)

Why do Bo, Hope, and Shawn D. claim residency at the Fance Face when he is always "staying at the pub with Shawn and Caroline," and she is always sleeping at the Horton Center. Is it because it is such a small boat? (KMcGin)

What happened to the ever-subletted Loft apartment that housed so many Salemites? (KMcGin)

Why is Marlena always moving in and out of the penthouse? Doesn't she feel stupid paying rent and having a maid for a house she doesn't even live in? And how can John tell her to move into the DiMera mansion to be protected from Stefano when Stefano is always there? Where does she sleep anyway? We never saw Marlena's room or Susan's room. Anyway, if John wanted to protect Marlena from Stefano why wouldn't he just hire a guard to stay at the penthouse with her? (anca)

How is it that the outdoor pool at the Blake House was open in the middle of February? In a city that obviously gets very cold in the winter, one would expect that the pool would be winterized, with the water level drained to about half and a tarp of some kind being put over the entire pool. Maybe Kristen wouldn't have died if the pool had been closed.

Nicole's apartment when she first arrived in town. She calls it a dump. She should see mine. Hers looks freshly painted and pretty clean. No Bugs or anything. What's her problem? (CaasiL)

Did Bo's boat, The Fancy Face, actually have a bathroom? I mean, there's a tub that pops out of no where ONLY when Bo and Billie have a romantic night together and Billie decides to take a bath in a sweater and leggings. But is there actually a bathroom? And what about Shawn D? Where does he sleep? The boat looks awfully small to me and yet it's big enough to store an antique tub plus an extra bedroom for Shawn Douglas that is no where in sight. (Camie)

In the early 90s, Kayla came to the loft to see Bo. She told Carly she opened the door with her key, since she had lived in the loft at one time (more than 3 years earlier). If everyone who ever lived in the loft had a key, all of Salem could get into the place.

Rewriting History

Yet again, DAYS has made some big plotline loopholes. If Franco had a contract out on his life in Italy, then it surely must have been there from before he came to Salem. So why be a high-profile fashion model with your picture on magazines all over the world? And he didn't seem to be afraid of anyone when he and Sami were in Rome before. (Adam Kuhl)

Has anyone noticed besides me that they keep saying that Mike and Carrie have childhood memories together but when Carrie came to Salem for the first time when she was 4 years old, while Mike was a grown adult and had already been married. So Mike is alot older than her. According to the history that Days published themselves, Mike was born in 1968 and Carrie was born in 1978. That is 10 years difference but they don't show that in the show now. (FantaBlue)

OK, so approximately and technically, John is missing two years of his life, 1985 and early 1986, before he came to Salem as the Pawn. And over the years, there has been much speculation and possible confirmation as to what he was up to during those two years. Let's review. The first go-around, he was supposedly Roman Brady, but didn't know it. Next time, in 1988, he starts to go into trances that he was karate/martial arts trained by a kung fu master named Orion, and starts going in that mode, which makes us believe that Yes! OK, he was being kung fu trained and that's where he was! THEN, next time around, a woman named Danielle comes to town and tells him that he is Romulus, an international jewel theif who scoured all of Europe. And that they were romantically involved. OK, we think. So maybe he was able to do those two things during his two years. NOW, we find out that he was involved with Princess Gina and was Stefano's mercenary. Now, I have a little trouble believing that ALL of this happened during those two years. But then again, he could have been missing before 1985. After all, where was he? He was Forrest Alamain, and may have been Stefano's all along, which would be a good way to explain all of this, extending a bit of the time frame. But if the show is keeping it within a certain time frame, it's funny to think about all the transition he must have had to gone through during those two years. Man, he has a better life than I do! (Kate Campbell)

When exactly did Shawn take piano lessons?  And while we're on that subject...didn't Austin used to play?  (CaasiL)
