Opening - Queen of the Night / Desecration

Unaware it is Celeste who is threatening him, Mike gives her the security system code to Marlena's penthouse. Stefano uses it to roam Marlena's apartment. Stefano wakes Marlena up and she seems to be hypnotized. He is wearing a long black cloak and a mask on his face. Marlena does not recognize him.

Adventure One

Stefano takes Marlena through her bedroom closet's doors. They emerge into a ballroom, where Marlena is treated like royalty. She wakes up suddenly and it is uncertain if the adventure was real or a dream. Marlena remarks to Kate that the dream had a sense of evil to it. Stefano confides in Celeste that he has the penthouse next to Marlena's and it is clear that what happened was indeed real. Celeste warns Stefano that if he continues to visit Marlena, there will be evil, as the Death Card appears in her tarot cards. Marlena tells John of the "dream" she had. Stefano prepares for another nightly visit to Marlena.

Adventure Two

Stefano takes Marlena to a private box at the opera. Marlena still does not recognize him. There, Stefano asks Marlena to come live with him in his world. Marlena remarks there's evil in the air. Marlena again abruptly wakes up, wondering what the "dream" was about. She finds tinsel on her bed stand and in her purse (people at the opera threw it at her). Marlena shows first signs of unexplained immorality. A strong wind throws open the Pub's door and startles Marlena. Marlena feels a sense of evil surrounding her. A mysterious gloved hand torches the Salem Place Tom Horton Memorial Christmas Tree. Celeste warns Stefano again that evil is coming.

Adventure 3

Stefano takes Marlena to the piers. He again asks her to join him in his world. She wakes up in a startle in her room. She meets Caroline on the piers and acts strangely. The mysterious gloved hand torches the Christmas gifts the Horton Center was collecting. Stefano suspects Celeste torched the gifts. She tells him she knows who it was. Some scary items in a wooden box are delivered to Father Francis's office. Celeste prays God for protection from this evil that is lured into Salem.

Adventure 4

Stefano takes Marlena on another nightly adventure in a magical room. Sensing she trusts her masked man now, Stefano reveals his face to her. Marlena doesn't recognize him. Marlena wakes up from her "dream" wondering when she'll see her masked man again. Father Francis wonders why has the evil come to Salem. He tells John someone is in grave danger. He tells John that he wishes never to encounter Evil again. He later receives three ancient scrolls. Father Francis reads the scrolls and fearing what's written in them, he gets up to warn people, but falls to the floor, as his office becomes dark. Kristen finds Father Francis on the floor and he warns her the Devil is in Salem. The mysterious black wearing character knocks off the head of a saint statue in St. Luke's. Celeste keeps attempting to dissuade Stefano from his plans for Marlena, but he would not listen. Marlena tells John the masked man reminds her of Stefano and that she feels attracted to him. Marlena gives Bo a psychological profile of the mysterious person doing all the damage, now nicknamed "The Desecrator." The Desecrator hits Gina over the head at St. Luke's. John, Kristen and Caroline find the church has been desecrated and Gina passed out on the floor. The Desecrator tempers with the Salem Place Christmas Tree Lights' fuse box. The lights don't come on. After an advice from a strange homeless person, John manages to turn the lights on. He realizes the man's name is Gabe and that they met a year before. Shawn D. suggests he is an angel. The Desecrator prepares to desecrate St. Luke's again, as John arrives and jumps him. The Desecrator and John fight, but the Desecrator runs off. John finds grease on his hands. The Desecrator is revealed to be Marlena. All evidence lead to the Desecrator being connected to the Brady's. John comes to tell Marlena about the fight and she almost faints. John leaves Marlena with a St. Michael's Medallion, which she smashes to the floor after he leaves for Midnight Mass. John starts giving the Mass. Marlena's bed starts the rock from side to side. Celeste feels something awful is about to begin. Marlena's bed stops to rock, as she levitates above her bed.

Week One

Quote of the Week: Celeste: "Someone else wants this wedding stopped. Someone even more powerful..."

Marlena levitates again and doesn't remember it. The furniture in her room starts moving. John arrives and takes the passed out Marlena to UH. Kristen brings Father Francis a crucifix and it falls to the floor. Marlena tells John and Mike someone with red eyes and a gruffly laugh jumped through her, in her room. Mike sedates her and Marlena walks, to his amazement. At her home, Marlena's eyes firstly turn green and her voice changes. She makes some ominous threats against John. She almost stabs him with a pair of scissors, but doesn't. The black figure with red eyes firstly appears in Marlena's room. Desecrator Marlena arrives to the St. Luke's and loosens the nuts of the chandelier, as someone is telling her to do. Marlena finds nuts in her hand and doesn't understand where they came from, the next day. Stefano worries about stopping Bo and Billie's wedding, as Celeste is certain a greater power will stop it. The black figure attacks Father Francis at his hospital room. Holy water makes Marlena scream. Her eyes turn green again, as the wedding starts. The chandelier falls. No one is hurt. The wedding resumes. Father Francis's eyes turn green and he attacks Lexie. Jonah saves her and they wonder about his strength and his supernaturally green eyes. At the church, Alice stops the wedding and Marlena's eyes turn normal again and she wonders what's going on with her.

Week Two

Quote of the Week: Father Francis: "Not talking to you, Marlena. I'm talking to him (The Devil) Stop hiding behind her...I'm talking to you!"

Stefano gets ready to make Marlena his, as Celeste warns him Marlena has evil around her. He blames her of being jealous of Marlena. The tarot cards tell Celeste Marlena's evil and dangerous. Marlena is up when Stefano comes to her, and he wonders if things are wrong, like Celeste claims. Billie dreams of Curtis. John takes Marlena to the church. There, Abe tells them and Caroline the chandelier falling was vandalism. Marlena feels uneasy at the church. She lights a candle and it blows out instantly. Abe and John are determined to catch the evil Desecrator. Father Francis tries telling Lexie to save Marlena, but she doesn't understand. Marlena visits Father Francis. He says he sees the Devil behind her. Marlena doesn't understand and then, the Devil firstly enters her body and she laughs diabolically for the first time. He threatens the father not to talk about him (the Devil). Marlena suffocates the father with a pillow and he passes out. John enters the father's room and Marlena is normal. She wonders what was she doing at the father's room with a pillow in her hand. She turns to Laura for help, since she's having gaps in time. The Devil enters Marlena again and makes other threats against ecclesiastical John.

Week Three

Quote of the Week: The Devil: "Go, find John and Kristen together. Cause the biggest scandal this town has ever seen. Bring down that damn priest, and that way, no one will ever be able to bring me down!"

Marlena feels like a bad person, so Caroline suggests she'll go away on a religious retreat. Marlena declines. Gabe comes to see John again and warns him he needs his spiritual strength for a battle that is ahead. Gabe disappears again, before John completely understands what he meant. The Devil tells Marlena she has to get that priest, John Black, off his back. Kristen prays at St. Luke's. A possessed Marlena sneaks up behind her and chloroforms her. She paints pentagrams and other satanical symbols on her naked body. Then, cuffs her to the altar. John finds her there. At home, Tony tells Stefano he feels Kristen is taking birth control pills since she's seeing another man, John. Stefano tries to dissuade him from believing that. Marlena arrives after Stefano leaves and "let it slips" that she saw Kristen's car at the church. Since he doesn't know where Kristen is and is suspicious out of his mind, Tony hurries over. The Devil's pleased. John cleans the paint off of Kristen's back. Stefano sees the naked Kristen cuddling with John in God's house and is shocked, believing they are having an affair. Tony arrives at the scene, as Marlena lurks around.

Week Four

Quote of the Week: Stefano: "What's happening in Salem? It's almost as if I am...my power is being usurped from me. I feel I'm being manipulated like the people I have manipulated in the past. But who? Who? Who is pulling the strings...?"

Stefano intercepts Tony from entering the church. When he does enter it, John and Kristen are in a back room. The Devil is enraged. Kristen tells John about her taking birth control pills. Outside, Tony tells his father he'll replace Kristen's birth control pills with identical sugar-pills. The Devil leaves Marlena and she wonders how she got to St. Luke's. John finds her and brings her in to talk to Kristen. Marlena advises Kristen not to tell Tony of the attack. Stefano feels he is losing control of things. Stefano firstly reveals himself to Peter and asks for his help, but Peter refuses. The black figure pops up in Marlena's home again. Marlena meets with Laura and tells her of the time gaps and all. Laura asks her to be admitted to the hospital. Marlena agrees, only the Devil possesses her again, when Laura is getting the forms and Marlena leaves. Tony is still suspicious of Kristen and decides to spy on her. The Devil is out to destroy John. To do so, Marlena transforms to Kristen. She now looks identically like Kristen. The real Kristen's car breaks down, on her way home. The Devil leaves a message on Tony's machine, telling him to get over to John's loft. "Kristen" arrives at John's, wearing a little slip.

Week Five & Week Six

Quote of the Week(s): The Devil: "With your help I scored a victory tonight. Soon, you'll belong to me completely. You won't even know you're an instrument I use to destroy that priest and the people of Salem, forever!"
Stefano: "Even if it was the Devil himself, I would fight him to the death for those I love!"

"Kristen" undresses and comes on to John, real strong. John doesn't comply, though. He is bewildered by Kristen's strange behavior. Tony hears the message and hurries over to John's. Week Twenty

John spends the night on Marlena's couch. He has a sexy dream about Marlena. When he awakes, he tells Marlena of it, and the Devil takes advantage of the moment, as John and Marlena kiss. John pulls away and Marlena lets him get dressed. He gets into his priest's attire and when Marlena comes down she tells him she doesn't see him as a priest. With a sigh of anguish unheard by John, she pulls off his priest collar and they kiss. John withdraws and apologizes. He leaves. The Devil is pleased that John is tempted.

Stefano orders Celeste to bring Peter to him. Reluctantly, Peter comes and Stefano threatens him he will tell Jennifer about him gaslighting Laura if he doesn't help him get out of jail, when Peter refuses to help him just like that. Peter gets a lawyer to handle it. In a very suspiciously uncharacteristic moment, Tony lights a fire under the attorney Peter hired. As Stefano is the only one believing her, Kristen comes to see him and tells him of everything that happened with Marlena. When she tells him the holy water not burning Marlena, he suggests the Devil in her switched it with river water. He tells her to be on guard. Kristen decides to go check things out. While John prays, Marlena thrashes about her bed. That's why she doesn't hear Kristen when she comes knocking on her door. Kristen gets John and they find the thrashing Marlena. John and Kristen call Mike, who gives her a sedative which has no effect as Marlena comes downstairs where Mike, John, and Kristen are talking about her. Mike wants to admit her to the hospital for more tests since he can't find anything obviously wrong with her. Marlena attributes her convulsions to residual effects of Stefano's drugs. She refuses to go back into the hospital again. Hearing Kristen recommends that she go to a psychiatric hospital, Marlena plays the innocent victim to John, who falls for the act. He asks Kristen to leave, not before reminding her Stefano is to blame for Marlena's condition. Kristen gets a glimpse of the evil within Marlena, as she sneers at her. She hurries to Stefano's and demands he swears he didn't drug Marlena. Stefano remains adamant Marlena is possessed. After consulting her cards, Celeste hurries to Stefano and tells him and Kristen a horrible history-altering event is about to happen and that three men of faith will arrive to help.

Abe and Lexie find three religious scholars next to Father Francis's bed. They are asking the father to tell them about the evil. They tell Abe and Lexie they came to translate the ancient scrolls Father Francis received. Abe takes them to police HQ, where the remains of the scrolls are kept, and after translating them, they gather a terrible evil will be unleashed in Salem. Kristen is acquainted to the three outside Father Francis's room. To her request, they tell her the scrolls depict the events leading up to the 'Great Battle': chaos, strange weather, people acting strangely, desecration, which will begin when the stars fall from the sky and the moon disappears. Recalling Celeste's words and realizing there is to be a lunar eclipse the next day, Kristen freaks saying it will happen tomorrow. The Devil prepares to unleash his wrath on Salem the next day. Kristen tries to tell John about the prophecy but he dismisses her words.

At a party for Austin and Carrie, Kristen watches as Marlena spends time with John. Marlena gets John to be alone with her in the garden and again tempts him, but Kristen, who is watching Marlena's every move, interrupts them. The Devil realizes that she must get rid of Kristen if she is to have John. John leaves to call the baby sitter, and Kristen confronts Marlena again about her belief that she is controlled by evil. Marlena gives Kristen a very harsh evil stare and warns her that she will fight her if she tries to resist her. Kristen is called to the study for a phone call, where she is frightened by a deadly looking snake courtesy Marlena. As she screams to John for help, the snake suddenly evaporates. John tells Kristen she must have imagined the snake, when she accuses Marlena of sending it. Marlena enters the room and Kristen prays out loud. John finds it crazy and Marlena asks him to take her home. He doesn't see Marlena's scraped palm, as she clenched her hand while Kristen was reciting. Marlena tries to entice John in his car, but he doesn't give in. She shows up in his apartment, when he returns home, but John refuses to sleep with her. The Devil becomes enraged and instead of revealing himself to John, he decides to harm the ones John loves- he arranges for a swarm of killer bees to take over the Kiriakis Mansion, where Austin and Carrie's party is held. The Devil promises this is only the beginning.

Week Twenty-One

The swarm of bees attacks Shawn and he is unconscious. He is taken to the hospital. Mike attends to him and Caroline is relieved to hear he'll be OK. The Devil turns Marlena's body into a black panther. Still unable to believe that the evil is within Marlena, Kristen takes John to see the three religious scholars. Kristen talks to the three scholars about being attacked in the church. They tell John that it is entirely possible that Marlena is possessed, but John still maintains that she's very ill and perhaps emotionally unbalanced, but not possessed. The three scholars are in the park with their telescope watching the upcoming lunar eclipse and trying to decipher what is going to happen. The black panther (Marlena) appears. It is sent away when the cross is shown, but when one of the scholars drops his cross, the panther jumps him. The other two drive the panther away again and rush to UH. Kristen runs into them there and decides to put an end to it. She heads for Marlena's. Kristen faces Marlena and spots blood under her nails. Marlena tries to choke Kristen, but is punched in the face, causing one of her contacts to fall out. Kristen then notices Marlena's green eye. Shooting stars begin appearing in the sky, as Father Francis awakens and prays for help. Kristen tells Marlena her green eye is a sign that she is possessed. The Devil reveals himself to Kristen and boasts it is too late to help Marlena, or anyone else in Salem. Kristen tries to leave, but Marlena blocks her way. She knocks her out cold and ties her hands. While John is considering Kristen's claims to be true, he gets a phone call from her. It is really Marlena speaking in Kristen's voice. "Kristen" tells John she realizes she was wrong about Marlena. John finds it odd. He later learns from one of the scholars about the panther attack and about Kristen going to see Marlena. He hurries over and arriving there, Marlena acts normal, telling him Kristen was not over there. On his way down, the building super tells him he did see Kristen entering the building and adds a tenant has complained about noises on the roof. John hurries to the roof and finds Kristen unconscious and tied. While on the roof, he notices the shooting stars and seeing Kristen in her condition, realizes she might be right about Marlena. The Devil prepares to make himself known to all of Salem. Kristen comes to and tells him about Marlena's voice and eyes. They go down to her apartment and Marlena again denies everything. When John asks her to let him see her eyes, she gets angry with him and throws him out of her apartment. She also announces he will never see their daughter again. John finally believes Marlena is possessed, as Marlena would never deny him seeing their daughter. Stefano is released from jail (out on bail). He arrives at Marlena's and tells Kristen and John Marlena must be helped. John and he start arguing, as John accuses him of Marlena's condition. They are distracted by noises upstairs. They go up to her bedroom and are amazed to see Marlena levitating. Father Francis again miraculously regains his strength and appears at Marlena's. Tony arrives, too. Father Francis manages to bring Marlena down from the air by prayer and holy water. She awakens and attempts to suffocate John. Father Francis tells John Marlena is possessed and that they must act quickly before the Devil will claim Marlena's soul completely. Tony asks his father to leave the scene. Everyone is shocked to hear the Devil speaking from Marlena's throat. Father Francis warns John that the Devil is after his soul.

An unsuspecting Caroline arrives to Marlena's to find her bound. Marlena claims to have been robbed. She releases Marlena and then finds the knocked out Mike aside. Marlena levitates in front of them and the two are petrified especially after Caroline notices Marlena's green eyes. John tells Bishop Andrews he will be responsible for the shattered blood if he does not give them permission to exorcise Marlena. The Devil knocks Mike out and ties Caroline up. John and Father Francis take Bishop Andrews to Marlena's, where they find Marlena hovering about the room and find Mike and Caroline in their condition. Mike comes to and everyone is petrified seeing Marlena in her current state. John distracts the Devil and Mike shoots Marlena in the leg with a sedative. She is brought down and restrained to the bed. The Bishop gives permission for an exorcism to be performed. Father Francis says he will do it, as he has experience in the area. John agrees to assist. He gets another visit from his angel, Gabe, and asks him for strength. Father Francis warns the exorcism is a harshly excruciating procedure that might kill Marlena. Kristen feels faint. Father Francis asks her to be part of the exorcism. Worried, Tony and John object, but Kristen insists, adding it will help atone some of her family's sins. Father Francis tells Kristen she has to be in perfect shape. She doesn't tell him of the dizzy-spells she's been having. Stefano demands to be part of the exorcism, but John tells him he will never see Marlena again.

Week Twenty-three

John, Father Francis, Caroline and Kristen prepare to begin the exorcism. Father Francis warns them the Devil is capable of tremendous deceit. The Devil tells Caroline he has arranged for the bees to attack Shawn and adds she will lose him sooner than she thinks. Caroline loses her temper and attacks Marlena, but John arrives in time to stop her and Father Francis explains what just happened is an example to how the Devil operates. A strong wind blows through Marlena's room and prevents John from entering it. After a group prayer, the wind stops. Everyone is amazed to see the room was not trashed by the wind. Carrie comes to see Marlena, but John turns her away. John, Father Francis and Kristen begin the exorcism. They pray and hold crucifixes above Marlena. A thing that agitates the Devil gravely. Marlena's blood pressure is very high and Mike suggests they stop. John has set up a tape recorder to document the procedure. The Devil has a surprise in store for John on the tape. Kristen and John hear it and Kristen swears she hears a woman's voice on the tape saying, "I love you, Karo." John becomes very emotional when he realizes it's Isabella's voice. She used to call him Karo. The Devil rocks the chair Caroline sits on, but by power of prayer, the chair stops rocking, but Caroline needs a break. John arrives and releases her. The Devil taunts John with memories of Isabella and tells him she is with him, in hell. John doesn't believe that and tells the Devil Isabella was good and honest. John is about to leave, but the Devil orders him to turn around. An image of Isabella is standing in the room. John becomes even more emotional.
