Stella Lombard was a plain woman, who was grieving her son Dean's death. He had been killed after an explosion at the opening of the Salem Museum, where he had been a waiter. The family later filed suit against University Hospital's Trauma Center, claiming the doctors did not attend to their son following the explosion, resulting in his death.
Stella & her husband, Roger, an abusive alcoholic, were in therapy with Marlena, as part of the lawsuit settlement. Marlena really connected with the family, relating to their loss of a son, since she lost her son DJ 11 years earlier. One night, Roger was lushed out and decided to take a drive. He went to Salem Place mall, hit the pedal and Kimberly Brady was hit by the car. She fell to the ground and was bleeding badly, but Kayla rushed her to the hospital. Then Abe arrested Roger. Shane and Kayla were elated when they heard Kimberly would live.
Marlena sensed Stella wasn't done grieving. At one point Roger painted a portrait of Marlena to thank her for her help, but Stella slashed the portrait and said (furiously): You slut, I wont let you take my husband, you are soo beautiful, you use that beauty to get what you want, well I won't have it"
Stella came onto Roman, who clearly was not interested. John Black noticed Stella was on the edge but didn't think anything would result. Stella bought a gun and then crumpled Marlena's picture. She found out Marlena had a doctor's convention in Atlanta, so she donned "Marlena's voice" and booked her name on the flight. John and Roman concluded Marlena was missing, but Stella had already created a note saying that Marlena was gone. John said to Roman, "Roman, it doesn't look like Doc's handwriting."
Marlena faced Stella's wrath and she had a gun...
Stella: Well Dr. Evans, you could not help me deal with my
son's death, now I want you to feel that pain.
Marlena: Stella, we can get you some help, I can help
you...
Stella says angrily: No LADY, you need help, you are evil,
trying to trick my husband, teasing him, and he paints a portrait of
you, which by the way (LOL) I tore to shreds....
Marlena frowns, and tries to escape, but Stella grabs the gun and
pushes her (Marlena falls into the boiler pit in slow motion)
Stella screams "How are the rats down there" - and Marlena wakes up to find a snake. It bites her hand and Marlena gets a welt, which becomes infected. Eventually Marlena crawls out of the hole, and sees a used answering machine. She records her voice "Help John I'm in the pit," but Stella soon grabs her and has the gun on her. Marlena hides the answering machine and Stella throws her back down into the pit. In and out of consciousness, Marlena is visited by the ghost of her twin, Samantha, and they reminisce about their childhood.
Stella decides she wants to end this - she goes to a telephone booth and decides to call Abe Carver and tell him where Marlena is, but a truck skids on the ice and hits the pole. Then a homeless man picks up the answering machine and runs into Carrie, who accidentally picks it up. John hears the message, and goes to the pit and hears Marlena's cries. Four men are outside ready to demolish the building.

Abe and Jesse see a dying and bloody Stella and she tells them where Marlena is. John goes to the pit and a beam falls on him. Then there's a big explosion and John is beside Marlena. Thinking they are gonna die, they pray their last rites, but Abe has rescuers rescue them. John is injured with a broken knee, and Marlena has scratches from trying to escape and the infection from the snakebite. |

John and Marlena recover and Marlena says her peace to Jesse and Roger Lombard. Carrie says goodbye to Jesse, and Roger and Jesse leave Salem after Stella's funeral.
