The Prologue

The story of Lexie and Jonah's attraction found its roots in the Pacifier storyline of 1993. Jonah Carver was The Pacifier, a vigilante who worked to clean up the streets of Salem. He'd capture criminals and tie them up or beat them up, leaving a pacifier around their necks. Lexie ran into him during one of the incidents, and she ended up helping him for a while. He was kicked out of medical school for his crime, but was later allowed to return to school. Lexie was kicked off the police force, but then decided to go to medical school.

The Story

After Jonah is shot during a drug bust at the Warehouse Club, Wendy decides to nurse him. For some reason which is not obvious to us, Lexie doesn't like that idea. During the time she takes care of him, Jonah and Wendy become closer and closer until they kiss. They both respond to it. Lexie comes over to Jonah's to borrow medical textbooks and after letting herself in, she catches the two at their kiss. She freezes for a moment and then snaps out of it. Later she meets Abe and seems to be upset, though Abe doesn't notice. After Abe leaves, Lexie thinks back to seeing Jonah and Wendy kiss and suddenly is startled when she sees herself kissing him in her mind. She has a very worried, unbelieving look.

Lexie and Abe meet Jonah and Wendy for dinner. Lexie is very uneasy, especially when Jonah starts telling Wendy about how he and Lexie used to dance around his apartment when he was still in med school. She excuses herself. Wendy senses something's up with Lexie, but Jonah is clueless.

Lexie avoids Jonah on several occasions. He finally confronts her about it, but Lexie doesn't give him a straight answer. Jonah also inquires why Lexie doesn't like Wendy. Lexie simply says she doesn't think Wendy is good enough for him and she moves away to hug Abe.

Later, Jonah is at Wendy's and she asks him to spend the night there. He declines, saying he'd like to take things slow. He brings up Lexie's odd behavior and wonders why is she avoiding him. At her home, Lexie dreams of kissing Jonah in bed. Abe wakes her up and she is upset. She asks him to hold her tight. Abe asks what is it and Lexie says she has a feeling something wrong is going to happen. Abe assures her everything is going to be O.K., adding that their love will only grow and so will the beautiful children they'll have. Abe leaves and Lexie fantasizes about Jonah entering her bed, shirtless. As he starts to make love to her, she gives in to it, although she keeps murmuring it's wrong. She snaps out of it and asks herself what the hell is she doing.

After Tom's memorial service, everyone gathers at the Horton Center. Jonah has recently started to get involved with the Mental Health Clinic at UH and tells Lexie he has arranged for her to assist him there. Lexie says she can't and gives no explanation. Jonah doesn't understand. Later in Salem Place, Jonah and Wendy bump into Caroline. He tells her about Lexie not wanting to work with him at the Clinic. When he wonders why, Wendy lets it slip maybe it's because Lexie likes him too much, but he doesn't get the message. Caroline does. When she bumps into Lexie later, she gives her some advice her Frankie gave her years ago, before she got involved with Victor- to leave town with Shawn before she and Victor gave into their passions. Lexie ponders. Later, Jonah joins the two. When Lexie is about to leave, Dr. Moore, who is in charge of assigning med students to different tasks at the hospital arrives and tells Lexie he has assigned her to work with Jonah at the Mental Health Clinic. Lexie tries to resist, but Dr. Moore won't take "no" for an answer. Lexie gives in and Jonah offers to show her around the clinic. They leave and Caroline remarks to Shawn (who has just joined her) that something is wrong with Lexie.

A few days later, Lexie meets Marlena at the Pub. She confides in her that she is starting to have feelings for another man, Jonah. After Marlena gets over the initial shock, she tells Lexie she'll do what she can to help her. Lexie tells her of her sexual fantasies with Jonah. She adds that she loves Abe dearly and that he does satisfy her and that's why she doesn't know where these fantasies and feelings come from. Marlena warns her what another man can do to a marriage (Marlena and Roman are starting to finalize their divorce). At Police HQ, Roman tells Abe he hopes he appreciates that no man has come between him and his wife. Abe reassures his partner, noting like that will happen to him and Lexie.

The next day, Lexie finishes her rounds for the first time. She is excited. Dr. Roger Hunt arrives and tells her tomorrow she'll be the first of the med students to do a full physical exam on a patient. Lexie gets anxious and tells Jonah. She says she has no equipment and no knowledge. Jonah offers her to go back to his apartment, there he'll give her his old medical instruments and show her the ropes. Lexie reluctantly agrees. There, she starts examining him--she looks deeply into his eyes. She is standing very close to him and is very excited. She moves away and Jonah exits the room to get something. Lexie imagines making love with Jonah. She freaks and gets ready to leave, but Jonah calls her, telling her they still have a few things to go through. He emerges from his bedroom, with no shirt on, but Lexie keeps her distance. Jonah tells her she has to touch him in order to examine him. She approaches him. Lexie is very nervous. She touches Jonah--shoulders, chest, arms. Lexie can't stand it and backs away, using tons of excuses like being tired, out of focus and all. She says she would rather have a female patient. Jonah says Dr. Hunt will definitely give her a male patient to examine the next day. He tells her to imagine she is examining someone she's physically close to, like Abe, and that will make it easier. Lexie acknowledges and Jonah teases her, asking to check for a hernia. Enough is enough for Lexie, so she thanks Jonah and leaves, with him still wondering what's wrong with her.

Some time passes and Lexie passes her exams, and with that, finishes her first semester. Abe takes her out to a club, where Jonah later arrives with Wendy. Abe presents her with gorgeous earrings and when Abe tells Jonah the good news, he hugs Lexie and she backs away quickly. Wendy notices. On the dance floor, she tells Jonah that Lexie acts the way she does because she has a thing for him. Jonah calls her over-imaginative and Wendy gets upset and leaves.

The next day, Jonah meets Austin at the hospital and tells him of the fight he had with Wendy, explaining she claimed a married woman had a thing for him. At the same time, Lexie arrives at Marlena's office, seeking her help for her problem with Jonah, which now she refers to as "an obsession." Marlena tells her she'll have to fight her desires very strongly and beware, for another man can be very harmful to a marriage (she should know). Lexie asks her to talk to Dr. Moore about removing her from the Mental Health Clinic project for an obvious reason. Marlena agrees. She gets back to the Clinic and when Dr. Moore arrives after talking to Marlena, he urges her to stay at the Clinic. Lexie inevitably agrees to stay. Later, Jonah extends his hand back and it touches Lexie. Lexie quickly jerks. Jonah decides to test Wendy's claims. He asks Lexie to go work at his apartment, as Lexie immediately declines and suggests the hospital library. Jonah says O.K. and looks oddly at Lexie.

A few days later, Jonah and Lexie both arrive at the Titan Health Club. They work out together and when Wendy arrives and sees them, she becomes agitated. She approaches Jonah and again warns him Lexie is in-lust for him, but Jonah refuses to accept that. He approaches Lexie and asks her to talk about the two of them. Lexie gets nervous. He tells her he knows why she's so stressed out around him. He says it's because she feels uncomfortable that she is in med. school and he's been thrown out of it. A smile of relief spreads on Lexie's lips and she acknowledges. Jonah approaches Wendy and explains. Although the reason sounds logical, Wendy insists Lexie wants him, saying what Lexie wants is to have "Forbidden Love" with him.

A heat wave takes over Salem and the Publisher of the Year Award dinner party is held at the Penthouse Grill. While Abe gets ready, Lexie again fantasizes about making love with Jonah. When she snaps out of it, Abe is in front of her, asking her why isn't she dressed yet. Fearing Jonah might be there as well, she says she'd rather stay home and study. Abe says O.K. and leaves. Abe stops by the hospital and invites his brother to come with him. The two arrive handsomely dressed up in tux. Lexie arrives, too, a bit later, telling Caroline, who greets her, she has decided to take Frankie's advice and spend as much time as possible with Abe. The two dance and have a good time, until Lexie sees Jonah and tells Abe she's leaving to do some studying now. Jonah notices her leaving and follows.

Power goes off all over Salem and the city is in the dark. The heat wave is in full swing. Lexie arrives at her car, just as the power goes off. Jonah gets into the car as well, wanting to talk to Lexie. She freaks again and says she has to leave, but Jonah explains the garage gate is electronically operated and so are all the exit doors. Oops, they're stuck there alone. Upstairs, at the Grill, Abe notices the two are gone and remarks to Caroline that he hopes the two are together during the blackout. Caroline tells Shawn she hopes for the opposite, as in a hot and dark night like this people give in to their passions and she hopes that won't happen. At the garage, Jonah tries to get the gate open. While he works, Lexie fantasize over him, with his shirt off. When she opens her eyes, she sees he's really with it off! It got dirty, so he removed it, he explains. Lexie advises herself to get control. Jonah gets into the car with her and turns on the radio. Over a sexy song, the announcer urges people to give in to their passions. Lexie gets hot and Jonah turns on the air conditioning. Lexie again fantasizes the two are kissing passionately. She frantically gets out of the car and Jonah exits, too, asking her what's wrong. She says it's too claustrophobic for her in there. Jonah hugs her and Lexie sniffs her shoulders; she's two steps away from jumping his bones, so she quickly backs away. Jonah asks again what's wrong and if it's him. She doesn't answer him and gets inside the car, where she dozes off and dreams Abe catches her and Jonah kissing in the steamy garage and calls her a traitor. She frantically wakes up to find Jonah next to her. She gets out of the car again and Jonah asks her yet again what's wrong. Lexie snaps at him, yelling nothing, but then apologizes. She begins to cry. Jonah sits her down beside him and relaxes her. He asks her if she could help him hook up with a sexy nurse at the hospital named Lynn. Lexie asks about Wendy. Jonah replies that they're not serious. He then exclaims that Wendy was totally wrong about her. When Lexie asks what he means, Jonah tells her of Wendy's notion that she (Lexie) is attracted to him. He adds that Abe will get a kick out of that one. No, yells Lexie, saying not to tell Abe, chucking it up to Wendy looking stupid if they do. Jonah agrees and decides to have another go at the gate.

Upstairs, Caroline asks Abe if he and Lexie spend much time together, considering their busy schedules. Abe says they try. Caroline stresses the importance of that in a marriage. Abe thanks her for her concern. Shawn overhears and asks his wife if she knows something Abe doesn't. Caroline simply replies that if Abe doesn't spend as much time with Lexie as possible, she'll spend it with someone else. Shawn suggests Jonah should talk to Abe about it, but Caroline makes a face, saying that wouldn't be a good idea. Downstairs, Jonah keeps working at the gate. Lexie watches his sweaty body work. He approaches her and asks her if she still is thinking about Wendy's suggestion. Lexie begins to cry again and Jonah hugs her. They suddenly hear a strange, imprecise loud noise and they gather it must be the backup ventilation system kicking in, but instead of breathing easier, they start to cough. Upstairs the maintenance man tells Abe that the ventilation system is all wrong and instead if pushing air in, it pushes carbon monoxide! "Oh, my God!" they exclaim, wondering if there is someone in the garage.

Jonah and Lexie duck down. Jonah gives Lexie his shirt to breathe through. Lexie gives it back to him and takes off her dress, to breathe through it. Jonah laughs--imagine what people would think if they were found right now! Lexie, for some reason, is not amused. Instead, she tells him she has something important to tell him, preparing to die, as she cannot die without a clean conscience. Meanwhile, Abe and Bo rush down to the garage exit door and try to open it, but it's no use. A second before Lexie confides in Jonah about her passions, Abe and Bo break in and haul the two out. Lexie passes out and Jonah immediately gives her mouth-to-mouth. When she semi-comes to, she kisses Jonah and when she opens her eyes and sees it's him, she pushes him away. Abe mockingly tells her she thought Jonah was him. Abe takes her to UH to get checked.

The next day, when Jonah meets Wendy at the hospital, she fumes over him and Lexie being found half-naked at the garage, after reading about it in the paper. She remarks that it must have been really hot for Lexie. Jonah tells her to drop it, saying he told Lexie about her idea and that she thought it was crazy the same way he does. Lexie arrives and Jonah asks her what she wanted to tell him before they were rescued. She says it was just that she loved Abe very much. When Marlena arrives, Lexie tells her about almost telling Jonah and adds the experience has totally gotten Jonah out of her system. Marlena says that's great. A bit later, a reporter arrives at the hospital, asking Jonah and Lexie to be interviewed. He asks what they were thinking in the last moments before they were rescued. When they answer "their families," the reporter says that's sweet, but sweet doesn't bring in the ratings. He suggests they attack this story from the point of view of two young beautiful people about to give in to their passion, as they realize they're attracted to each other. Lexie moves away, shocked. Wendy, who is close by, heard it all. Jonah kicks the reporter out. Wendy tells Jonah she is not the only one who thinks Lexie is attracted to him. Lexie experiences another sexy fantasy--she and Jonah making love at the garage.

Later, while working at the Clinic, Jonah asks Lexie to join her and Abe on a date with him and nurse Lynn. Lexie says she'd rather not. He tells her to loosen up and puts on music. He takes her hand and they dance. She imagines them in skimpy outfits, dancing sensuously. Has she gotten over Jonah, she wonders? She backs away. Later, she walks the halls of the hospital and overlooks Jonah and Lynn sharing an intimate kiss. That obviously bothers her.

Later that day, Caroline catches Lexie eyeing a sexy red dress at Salem Place. She asks her how she and Abe are doing and Lexie says, "great." After she leaves, Abe arrives and Caroline tells him of Lexie and the red dress. He surprises her with that later and takes her to a club. They're dancing sexily and when Abe gets tired, Lexie dances on her own. Jonah arrives and spots the foxy red lady on the dance floor. He doesn't see it's Lexie, as her back is to him. He tells Abe, "that girl can move!" He suddenly notices it's Lexie. Abe suggests he go dance with her. Jonah approaches her and she rubs up and down against him, thinking it's Abe. She turns around and sees it's Jonah. They dance and Lexie again is very excited. They draw closer to each other and almost kiss, only Lynn arrives and drags Jonah aside. Jonah is totally shocked. What is it, asks Lynn. After looking into Lexie's eyes, he remarks to himself that he thinks she does have a thing for him.

The next day, Jonah and Lexie are quietly working at the Clinic. They exchange tense looks. When Lynn enters, she teasingly tells Jonah he is a ladies man and to Lexie she says she has completion. Jonah exits the Clinic with her and Lexie ponders why is he acting so strangely. She panics, Jonah must know she's hot for him. Later, she meets with Marlena and tells her that her attraction for Jonah obviously hasn't gone away. Marlena warns her about her fantasies. Lexie says they're only fantasies and that she won't act on them. That's what she said about John, warns Marlena. Meanwhile, Austin meets with Jonah. Jonah tells Austin that he thinks what Wendy said about that married woman having a thing for him is true. Later, Marlena, Lexie, Abe and Jonah sit down to lunch. Jonah asks Abe to take Lexie out for dinner and splits. After Abe leaves, Lexie asks Marlena if she saw how Jonah acted. Marlena acknowledges and advises Lexie to tell Abe. Lexie refuses. Marlena adds she should talk to Abe about the things lacking from their marriage.

The next day, Lexie walks in on a half-naked Jonah and Lynn at the Clinic. Lynn gets dressed and leaves. Lexie scolds Jonah- it's a hospital not a motel! Jonah says he knows why she is so upset. Lexie makes up excuses. Jonah tells her she got upset because she was jealous of Lynn. Lexie agrees, finally. She explains that before they moved in together (after Abe threw her out), they used to fight and disagree, but she found out he was different. She explains she developed these silly, shallow little fantasies about him and when she saw him with Lynn she got disappointed. She adds she's glad Abe didn't notice a thing and that she didn't make a mistake at the garage that night that could have cost her marriage. She adds she's glad she doesn't have to be nervous around him anymore. Just as Lexie says they needn't tell Abe as he wouldn't understand, he walks in and asks what. Lexie makes up some answer and he buys it. The two leave for dinner. They go to the Grill, where Jonah and Lynn are. Lexie bumps into Jonah and asks him why he is throwing his money away at a fancy place like that. Jonah accuses her of being jealous of Lynn, again, which is still not that far from the truth. Disappointed with Jonah, she goes back to Abe and asks him to go home and make love with her.

After Lexie confided in him about her fantasies, Jonah finds himself oddly attracted to Lexie, too. He starts having fantasies about her. When he makes love to Lynn one night and calls her "Lexie," he realizes something is wrong. Lynn fumes and leaves.

A few days later, Jonah needs to leave for a mental health convention in Montana. Lexie gets assigned, too, without either one knowing the other is going. They later meet on the train and Jonah is cold and awkward around Lexie. It bugs Lexie and she doesn't get why. Her mind gets off track when she sees Celeste on the train, too, remarking that she knows that woman. At UH, Marlena asks Lynn where Jonah is and she says he's away at the convention. Marlena remarks that Lexie is too and Lynn finds it no accident. She tells Marlena she and Jonah broke up, as he's serious about another person. On the train, Jonah tells Lexie he and Lynn broke up, when she asks. She asks him to talk to Abe about whatever it is that's bothering him, but he refuses.

When Jonah returns from the convention just before Christmas, he meets Lynn at Salem Place. She demands a stop to the games and for him to tell her what's going on between him and his sister-in-law. When he replies nothing, Lynn inquires how the two ended up at the convention together and Jonah says by accident. Lynn seems skeptical. After Lynn leaves, Jonah sees Abe and Lexie kissing and imagines himself kissing her. He tells himself he can't have those kinds of thought about his brother's wife. Marlena meets Lexie at Salem Place and she tells her of Jonah's odd and distant behavior towards her during the convention. She also adds she hopes Abe isn't suspicious of anything.

A few days later, at the hospital, Jonah sees Lexie fighting with Lynn. Lexie approaches him and asks him why Lynn is giving her attitude. Jonah replies that he doesn't know and Lexie tells him Lynn accused her of planning to be with him at the convention. Jonah says he doesn't know why Lynn did it and turns to leave. Lexie grabs his arm and asks him why is he avoiding her. She tells him she doesn't have anymore feelings for him and asks him to come be with her and Abe on Christmas Day, but Jonah refuses. When Lexie asks him why, Jonah tells her he just can't and leaves. Abe arrives and asks Lexie what's going on with Jonah. She replies she wishes she knew. Later, Jonah arrives at the Pub. He fantasizes he tells Lexie he can't be with her and Abe on Christmas Day, because he has feelings for her and then kisses her. He snaps out of it, as Abe arrives and pats him on the shoulder. Abe demands to know what's going on between him and Lexie. He tells Jonah he sees the tense looks between them. Jonah thinks Abe is on to him and says it's not Lexie's fault. Abe then cuts him off and tells him that Lexie is just reaching out to him. Jonah relaxes, realizing Abe isn't on to him, and when Abe asks him to spend Christmas with them, Jonah again refuses and leaves without any explanation. At the hospital, Lynn keeps giving Lexie attitude. Lexie asks her what the hell is her problem. Lynn simply replies she doesn't like cheating woman. Lexie doesn't understand and Lynn explains she means her and Jonah. Lexie tells her she's crazy, as there's nothing going on between her and Jonah. Lynn tells her Jonah called her "Lexie." Lexie replies that they work together, so he might have been confused. Lynn says Jonah called her "Lexie" in bed, while making love to her! Lexie is shocked. She tells Lynn there's nothing going on between them and Lynn replies she may be wrong, but tells Lexie that Jonah definitely has feelings for her. Jonah appears in the distance and Lexie wonders whether or not it's possible Jonah has feelings for her...

Later, Jonah arrives at the Health Club and enters the steam room. Lexie does the same a bit later and doesn't realize Jonah is there. When she sees him there, she's all right with it, as she no longer has those fantasies about him. Jonah, however, is upset. He gets up to leave, but Lexie confronts him head on and asks him what is. When he doesn't answer, she out right asks him if he wants her. Jonah grabs her and lies one sexy kiss on her. Lexie is perplexed. She draws back and exits the steam.

Jonah keeps avoiding Lexie now for a few days. She confronts him at the hospital, saying they haven't talked since the kiss. When Jonah ignores her, she threatens to tell Abe and gains his attention. She asks him to spend the holidays with him. Jonah says he can't and Lexie warns him Abe will become suspicious. Jonah apologizes for the kiss and says it won't ever happen again. Lexie and he talk. They discuss their past mutual fantasies. They both now are over their attractions to each other, after the kiss and all.

After the two resolved their feelings for each other, they just realized they were indeed in lust for each other and that it was only a passing thing. It's not worth breaking up her marriage, Lexie decides. Jonah decides to stop his swinging ways. He asks Wendy back on a date and decides to become more domestic. He enjoys time with her and Benjamin. He tells Lexie and Abe he'd love to spend Christmas with them. He asks Wendy and Benjamin to join them, too. Never again did Lexie and Jonah feel uneasy or uncomfortable by the other's presence.
