The Story:
On April 13, 1987 an unknown woman arrived at University Hospital, badly beaten and with multiple internal injuries. Robin Jacobs performed surgery on her, then asked Mike to come in and take a look at her. Robin was very troubled about how what happened to the woman. Mike immediately recognized her as an old friend from college, Diana Colville. Diana began to speak of the incredible danger she faced. Mike and Robin had no idea their patient had brought an interesting trail to Salem.
The ISA and the Salem police department were desperately looking for a top secret computer disk that had been stolen from the ISA main office in Washington D. C. The contents of the disk were very dangerous and therefore the American public could never learn what was on it. The disk came to town with the mysterious Hans, who had tracked the Donovans on their honeymoon in May 1987. While trying to approach Kimberly on a pier, Hans was shot by an unseen sniper. He was rushed to the hospital and operated on by Robin Jacobs, but did not survive. After his death, Diana found a photo of Hans and her late fiancé, James, medical researcher. Shane and Kim learned that Hans was also a scientist. Meanwhile, Robin learned that Hans had a computer disk when he was brought to ER. While she was alone in her office making a copy of it, she was shot by an intruder who grabbed the copied disk and fled, not knowing that it would not be of any use for him without of the code that was on the original disk.
At the same time, Mike was busy performing research in a lab, making incredible progress. He was also working with the original disk, trying to find out what was on it. There was a gala to celebrate his work and honor the work of the hospital. The night of the gala, a bomb was placed in the lab. Someone intended to kill Mike and destroy his research, but instead, Steve and Kayla were trapped in the explosion. In the days they were trapped, Steve finally declared his love for a delirious Kayla as he nursed her injuries. After the accident nothing changed between them, when Steve denied that anything emotional went on in the rubble.
In late May, Steve, who was still known as a shady guy, was approached by Senator Harper Deveraux and some of his cronies. They told Steve that the Senator was working on something very important and he needed to fake his own death. Steve was reassured that it was all legit, with blanks in the gun, but it was all a plot. An evil guy named Kai was really trying to bump off the senator. When Steve fired his gun, the Senator was struck by a real bullet that put him into a coma. Kai was actually working for Victor, who was trying to find the disk.

Steve went on the run and Harper lay in the coma in University hospital for many months. The FBI and the Salem PD were both after Steve. Of course Kayla wasn't going to let Steve disappear without her, so she soon joined him on the run. They spent some time in a "honeymoon hotel," but had shots fired at them and they kept moving. Adrienne was also determined to find her brother before anything could happen to him. Along with Justin, who was persistent in his pursuit to win Adrienne's trust, Adrienne discovered Steve and Kayla in Colorado claiming that an FBI Agent, Ed Daniels, had framed him! In order to clear Steve's name, the foursome traveled to Los Angeles to search for information on Dr. Simon Hopkins, who Steve also suspected of being part of the plot. They all ended up at CULA (California University in Los Angeles) where they discovered a link between Simon and Harper. They needed to infiltrate the offices of a company called Kava Chemical to find out more about it. Kava Chemical just happened to be in Salem. After they all returned to Salem, Adrienne and Kayla managed to get Justin and Steve inside Kava by flirting with the guards there. They also convinced Diana, who was involved with Kava, to help them. |

After the crime which Robin barely survived, a lead brought the police, then controlled by Roman Brady and Abe Carver and ISA agent Shane Donovan, to Salem's very own Victor Kiriakis, who was already known to the police for all the dirty deeds he had pulled in the past . The main suspect was Ed Daniels, a shady business man involved with Victor and Phillip Colville. Roman and Abe were looking for leads to nail him and all the men behind Ed once and for all, but it seemed like all of their plans were destined to fail.
Diana still feared for her life. She moved into the loft with Kayla where Robin and Mike could check on her often. A news reporter, she started her own investigation on the case, because she was sure that Daniels had also been involved in the death of her fiancé James. Diana was sure that he was killed because he had too much information about the disk, information that could have brought Daniels and his partners behind bars for life. She was shocked to find out that her fiancé had been an impostor working for her estranged father, Phillip. The story became more and more dangerous everyday and the lives of several famous Salemites were threatened.
The police and Diana were sure that Daniels and his men were behind this deeds as well. The problem was that Ed was a very careful man who never left any real evidence that would be proof enough for a judge to send him to jail. Ed had to go to trial for the attack on Harper. Kayla and Steve Johnson, who had also worked for Victor and with Daniels in the past, should be the ones to testify against him. Both Victor and Daniels were aware of the damage Steve's testimonial could cause both of them and were already planning to take care of him their way the night before the trial. All three of them shocked and surprised when Steve told the Judge that Ed was a good man, that he did not commit a crime in his entire life. Even though Kayla testified that Daniels was a shady man, it was of no use, because her story was based on what Steve had told her about it and Steve on the other hand said that he had been lying to Kayla all along.
As a result of Steve's testimonial, Daniel remained a free man. No one in the Brady family understood Steve's motives to testify for Daniels. Victor and Ed were doubting about his sudden change of mind, but they trusted him again. They didn't know that this had been the plan of the police all along. The police were still trying to find the disk and they figured that if Steve would play the loyal friend of Kiriakis and Daniels, they would take him back into his organization where he could spy on them and pass the information to the police. Unbeknownst to Victor, he had played directly into the hands of Roman and Abe. The case then was officially closed to keep the press, especially Diana, from snooping around and to give the police some space to work undercover on their secret investigation. Victor developed an interest in Diana Colville and found her a place to live as a motive to spend some more time with her. They began to date, despite Roman's warnings he had given her about the man. Diana mistakenly believed in Victor and all the tales he told her. One night they dated, their car was attacked and both of them were almost killed in an accident over a high cliff. It was obvious that someone else was interested in the computer disk that was now in Victor's hands. Steve succeeded in stealing the disk from him and brought it to Shane Donovan, who kept it in a safe in his house. Daniels and Victor learned that the ISA had the disk and ordered Steve to kill Shane and get it back to them. This way, they wanted to check Steve's loyalty and to make sure that Steve would not hesitate, Daniels came to the house with him. Steve could convince them that it would be better just to steal the disk, because if Shane would be found dead, the polices first guess would be them. The plan was running perfectly, but after they had the disk, Daniels disappeared with it, leaving no note to Steve. Steve then got the order from police man Roman Brady to get the disk back, but Shane proposed to use someone else to trap Victor, who had already become suspicious of Steve.
Shane's proposal was Diana Colville, who would be the perfect candidate in his eyes, because she had become very close to Victor and he would not suspect her to turn her back on him. At first, Diana strictly refused to spy on Victor, but all the accusations had made the news reporter a little suspicious and in a moment alone in Victor's house she broke into his safe, wanting to prove to Roman that she was right. But in it she found a document that finally resolved her questions about James' death: Victor had ordered to kill her fiancé! This fact made her change her mind and she agreed to do anything to get Victor to the only place he belonged: prison. Diana now collected information about the man and gave it to the police. Victor wasn't hard to trick, because Diana soon found out what his number one weakness was and appealed to it: women. She began feigning and attracting to Victor, willing to go as far as she had to to nail him. She saw her big chance coming when he invited her to a business trip to Greece. Roman, who had started to develop deep feelings for Diana even though they fought every time they met, secretly followed them to keep an eye on this pretty lady. In Athens, they met a mysterious woman dressed in black, later called the Lady in black, who was involved with Victor and the disk. It seemed like she had been the one also interested in it and was also responsible for the accident Victor and Diana had had in Salem. The woman was Victor's arch rival and she got her hands on the disk before he could. Kiriakis vowed revenge against her. Roman and Diana followed Victor to one of his meetings in a café. Victor gave the disk to a Greek friend , who was later murdered for the disk. It was now possessed by the Lady in black.

After the murder, Victor and Diana rushed back to Salem, where Victor thought the woman had taken the disk, but they returned to Greece shortly afterwards for the wedding of Victor's nephew Justin to Adrienne Johnson. The wedding took place in Nafplion, the place both Victor and Justin were born. Almost everyone in Salem went with them to see them walk down the aisle, including Kayla and Steve, Kim and Shane and Josephine Johnson. |

Roman was assigned to the disk investigation and became Diana's bodyguard during her stay in Greece. The night before returning to Greece, Roman spent the night at Diana's place, teaching her everything she had to know in this dangerous situation she was put in. She was given a special taping device that would record every conversation she would have with Victor for the police. Roman could hardly keep his eyes and hands off Diana that night, and his attraction for her grew deeper and deeper. He tried all he could to keep her from going to Greece, because he was seriously worried about her well-being, but Diana would hear none of it. She reminded Roman that he was the one who told her to get as close to Victor as she possibly could for this investigation, should she now forget about that because he wished it? Roman did not have an answer for it, because he was still running from his feeling and denying them, and so he had to let her go.
In Greece, Victor tried all he could to get the disk back, and his actions became more and more dangerous for the people he loved most. His nephew Justin Kiriakis was attacked in a market the day before his wedding to Adrienne; a deed of the Lady in Black to scare off Victor once and for all. But Victor's interest in the disk was too great and he kept on following the lady. He had to have the disk, no matter what. They always met at an old fortress in Nafplion where Roman and Diana followed them several times, but every time their meetings were over and they tried to follow the Lady, she seemed to disappear somewhere in the fortress. One evening after one of these meetings, Roman and Diana found themselves locked in on of the rooms of the fortress. They were forced to spend the night alone together. It was at this moment that the pair realized something special was happening between them. They couldn't deny the sexual tension between them any longer and made love.
Meanwhile, the Lady developed an interest in Diana when she realized that she and Roman were also hot on her tails. Roman was beaten up by her men and the Lady told him to get Diana away from Greece and this disk business as soon as possible. Now, Diana was not only watched by Victor, who had started to doubt her motives, but also by the Lady, even though she had no idea what her true identity was. The whole situation had made her confused and Roman told her she could stop her involvement in the case if she wanted to, but Diana resisted. No matter how afraid she was, she would not give up until Victor finally got what he deserved. Diana decided to stay in Nafplion and she and Roman developed a new plan to trap the Lady. In a restaurant where she was sure the woman had followed them, Diana faked a food poisoning and was taken to the hospital. The police were sure that sooner or later, the Lady would show up there to check on Diana so she could identify her . Their plan worked. The Lady showed up, but became suspicious, and left before Diana got a chance to take a close look at her. After their plan had failed, Roman and Diana concentrated their search on the fortress where one day, Roman was attacked again by the men of the Lady in Black when he discovered that she, not Victor, was mining the rare and valuable mineral that composed the disk. When they were running of, Roman shot the Lady . As she fell to the ground, her wig fell of her had. At that point, Diana let out a screeching scream. She recognized the woman immediately. It was her long lost mother, Serena! Diana, who had not seen her mom for six years, blindly trusted her and believed in her innocence, because she was so glad she had her back. She felt sorry for her, because as a result of Roman's gunshot wound Serena had been left temporarily paralyzed.
Roman saw through Serena's act and vowed to press charges against her. She denied any involvement with the disk that was still missing. That almost destroyed Roman and Diana's young love. The last night in Greece, Roman and Diana were both drawn back to the place where they had made love for the first time and made love again. But in the morning, Diana left to be with her mother. Unbeknownst to Diana, Serena had made a deal with Victor: he would make sure that Serena did not have to go to jail if she would give him the code for the disk that was still in her possession. Victor then told Diana that he would get her mom off the hook if she agreed to be his bride. Diana was torn between her feelings for Roman and her loyalty towards her mom. She reluctantly accepted his proposal, not knowing that Serena knew about her motives to get married. When Roman heard about Victor and Diana's engagement, he was in shock. He knew in his heart that Diana loved him, so why on earth was she engaged to Victor?
Victor made sure the wedding was an intimate affair at the Kiriakis mansion, but he invited one special guest: Roman. Of course Victor wanted Roman to see it all with his own eyes. Roman arrived and immediately got drunk as the wedding party waited for the justice of the peace to arrive. Diana continued to hide upstairs, taking her own sweet time to get dressed for the event, hoping it somehow wouldn't happen. In Greece, Roman had given her a whistle. He told her to blow it anytime she needed help. She pulled it out one last time and blew it. Just as he had promised, Roman appeared to help Diana. But he took things a step further, kidnapping her from the balcony of the bedroom and taking her away to an old cottage where he handcuffed her to the bed, hoping she would finally come to her senses.
Diana was able to run away and she went back to Victor, where she overheard her mother say that she would do anything to get Diana to marry Victor in exchange for her freedom, but that she was not willing to give the disk to him. Diana was heartbroken and went back to Roman for comfort. Even though she hated Victor more than ever for treating her like a tool, she decided that the only way to bring him and his entire organization down was if she pretended to be in love with him again in order to get new information out of him. So she went back to Victor who kept her like a prisoner in his house. Diana soon found out the reason Victor wanted her to stay away from his business: Daniels was back in town and he arranged a meeting with Victor and Serena. Diana passed the information on to Roman, who had climbed the high walls of the Kiriakis mansion to see her and followed Victor to his meeting on the pier. When he arrived there, Victor and Daniels were fighting about Serena and the disk they were so interested in. Phillip Colville, who had also shown up after hearing that his former partner was back in town, was shot by Victor Kiriakis. He later died in the hospital in the arms of his daughter. Diana then backed out of her engagement to Victor and vowed that she would never let her mother be a part of her life again because she had lied to her one time too often. Serena, who was still followed by the police because of her involvement with the computer disk, offered Victor the code for the precious thing, but later decided that she would not go for the deal. Instead, she went to Roman and offered to give back the disk, if he in return talked Diana into forgiving her. Diana had a hard time accepting her mother back in her life after everything she had done to her, but she finally gave in and the lost computer disk went back to the ISA station in Washington, where it was hidden away and never mentioned again.
