Prologue:
The story actually began in 1990, when Hope was presumed dead. She was a passenger on the Cruise of Deception and was taken by Ernesto Toscano. A magician, he put her into a large metal cage that hung over a vat of acid. After saying her goodbyes to Bo, there was a flash of light and "POOF!" Hope was gone from the cage, as was Ernesto. Bo and the other Salemites assumed she was dead.
In 1994 she came back after being found in Stefano's mansion in New Orleans, however he claimed he found her wandering the streets with amnesia and scars, so he paid for the surgery, and nursed her back to health with an assumed name, Gina. In 1995, Hope recovered her past except for the four years she was missing. And in 1998 when she thought Bo fell in love with Billie, who was pregnant, she decided to investigate her past alone. She found a woman named Lili who knew Hope as Princess Gina, who had disappeared in 1990 briefly and disappeared again in 1994. Bo found a girl named Greta, who happened to be Gina's daughter, living in a swamp in the Louisiana bayou, ashamed to show her scarred face. Greta revealed that Gina had died in 1990! Also that Hope was not the one in the cage that exploded, it was Greta, which meant Hope never had surgery, nor was in a hospital. Greta had stepped into the cage at the last minute and had been scarred by the acid. After it was reveled that Billie had lied to Bo about the baby, Bo & Hope reunited, not only more determined to find more about Hope's past, but to become a family again. But Stefano had other plans, including a kidnaping...
The Story:
Shawn Douglas began noticing some of his mother's interesting talents, such as humming tunes she didn't remember ever hearing and creating detailed copies of paintings she didn't remember ever seeing.
After Bo received a harrowing call from Shawn-Douglas' kidnappers, he was convinced Stefano was responsible for his son's abduction. Fearful for her son's life, Hope visited church, where she prayed for Shawn-Douglas' well being. Later, Hope was devastated when Bo informed her that the ransom exchange backfired. To make matters worse, the kidnappers phoned and announced that Shawn-Douglas was dead. Concerned that not enough was being done to find Shawn-Douglas, Bo arranged to go out on his boat to search for his son himself. Abe arrived and revealed that a body had been found in the river. However, Abe added that it wasn't Shawn-Douglas. Shortly after, Hope and Bo discovered their son lying unconscious at the DiMera mansion. After he was revived, Hope and Bo made plans for the three of them to sail on Fancy Face II. In a poignant moment, Bo requested Alice Horton's permission to marry Hope. He also broke the news to Billie. The pair would finally be reunited!
Meanwhile, Hope was stunned when she suddenly recalled her involvement with Stefano during her four-year absence from Salem. While heading home during a severe blizzard, Hope's car spun off the road.
Stefano, who had been waiting to completely change Hope back into Gina finally succeeded, as the appropriate satellite was lined up and Dr. Rolf proceeded with the transformation
Hope was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a slight concussion. Bo was relieved when Mike agreed to release her. When Stefano learned of the accident, he rushed to the hospital to determine whether Hope was really Gina. Soon after, Bo proposed to Hope and she accepted. But as they started to kiss, Hope suddenly mistook Bo for Stefano and slapped him. Confused by her response, Hope returned Bo's wedding ring and said she wasn't ready to make a commitment. Soon after, Hope told Stefano that she remembered being an art thief for him. She also recalled that Stefano hid the artwork in Jonesy's townhouse. Worried that Hope would blab the truth to everyone, Stefano started to strangle Hope. During the struggle, Hope suddenly became Gina. As they playfully toyed with each other, Vivian discovered their antics and told Bo and John. Stefano asked Gina to adopt Hope's personality as a way of keeping everyone from learning the truth. Later, Gina informed Stefano that she was eager to return to Europe with her cohort, Father John Black.
Stefano promised Gina that once she completed the forgeries, he would take her to Europe. Meanwhile, Bo made plans to take Hope to Europe. Soon after, Gina had a memory of John and decided to find him. Spying on Greta in the hospital, Gina had a memory of her daughter as a newborn infant. When Greta discovered Gina, she posed as Hope and offered to comb Greta's hair. While Gina is combing Greta's hair, she tells Gina that she feels like she's with her mother.
John agreed to go under hypnosis (with Marlena) to learn more about his past. Greta tried to help John regain his memory by reminding him of a dance he shared with Gina. But when John appeared upset, Marlena insisted he regain consciousness. Later, Marlena asked John if he remembered anything he said while under hypnosis and he answered no. Soon after, John admitted that the woman he recalled looked like Hope. John added it was time he put the experience behind him and he promised to focus on his relationship with Marlena, which delighted her.
Bo informed Roman that Hope rejected his marriage proposal, while Billie eavesdropped. Later, Bo invited Hope to join him in Europe, but she declined the offer. Shortly after, Hope asked Lili to help her re-create a red dress that Gina had once worn. John arranged for Greta to have dinner with him, Marlena, Hope and Bo. Hope arrived wearing the red dress, which prompted John to remember Gina wearing an identical dress. Meanwhile, Greta had a memory of her mother. Stefano was enraged when he learned that Gina was dining with John, Marlena and Greta. Later, Gina, posing as Hope, stepped up her efforts to persuade John to accompany her to Europe. When responded that he couldn't, because of Marlena, Gina resolved to get rid of Marlena.
Bo and Greta left for Europe to uncover information about Hope/Princess Gina's past. In Capri, they learned that Gina used to paint for hours on the hotel balcony. Thugs jumped Bo after he and Greta fished for information at a restaurant Gina frequented. Bo tried to persuade the police chief for a search warrant for the hotel because everybody he questioned about Gina wouldn't reveal any information.
Hope/Gina pleaded with John to look deeper into his past. She then tried to convince Marlena that John could have a family somewhere else. John created a romantic evening for Marlena, but she couldn't help being distracted by Hope's words. John assured Marlena that he was a priest then, and that nothing could ever come between them again. Later, Marlena caught John comforting Hope in an embrace. In one of her memories, Hope/Gina saw John remove his clerical disguise and embrace Gina in a passionate kiss. Stefano explained to Dr. Rolf that he sent John to the seminary as a cover, but he never became a priest. When Bo telephoned from Italy with more information about Gina's past, Hope convinced Stefano that she had to go to Europe to buy special paints for the forgeries. Shawn-Douglas wanted to go to boarding school, and Hope/Gina agreed to it. Meanwhile, Alice was shocked that her granddaughter sent her son away without first consulting Bo.
In Capri, Bo searched the hotel computer and confirmed that Gina stayed at the Capri Hotel eight times, but that John was never registered there. Meanwhile, Hope/Gina secretly observed Bo, while outside on a ledge. Unknown to Bo, Gina altered the records and deleted John's name. Shortly after, Hope/Gina met with Stefano and said that Bo and Greta were close to learning the truth.
Bo and Greta returned to Salem. Bo was outraged when he learned that Hope had sent Shawn-Douglas to boarding school without first consulting him. Later, Bo stumbled upon a photo of a woman who looked like Hope in a compromising position with Stefano. When Bo showed the photo to Marlena and John, he observed that Stefano and Hope did look close at the mansion. Later, Bo stormed into the mansion, carrying the photo, and demanded that Stefano explain. Hope/Gina pretended to be angered by Bo's behavior and ripped the photo into tiny pieces. Bo asked Hope to return home, but she refused. Later, John told a stunned Bo that he thinks Gina was in love with him. Meanwhile, Gina/Hope visited Billie and explained that she wasn't marrying Bo because she was convinced he still loved Billie. In an attempt to jar John's memory, Gina/Hope took him to Tuscany, hoping it would remind him of Capri. Suddenly, John recalled toasting Gina with champagne. Marlena arrived, and Hope/Gina quickly explained that she was trying to help John remember his past, but Marlena didn't believe her. With Hope/Gina's help, Marlena put John under hypnosis and he recalled giving Gina a gift. When John began suffering from a terrible headache, Marlena pulled him out of the trance. Soon after, Gina recalled being passionate with John. Later, in Salem Place, Lili and Lucille joined Bo and Hope/Gina. Lili revealed that painting was a secret passion of Gina's. Intrigued, Bo asked when Lili's art collection was stolen. When Lili responded that it was in 1992, Hope/Gina became upset and fled. Confused by Hope/Gina's behavior, Bo wondered if Gina was involved in the art thefts.
Hope/Gina asked Greta if she was in love with Bo. Greta answered no, believing that she was talking to Hope. Gina also asked if Greta knew the whereabouts of a missing compact. Later, Greta told Billie that Hope questioned her about the compact. Billie asked Greta not to reveal that she had it. Meanwhile, Hope/Gina saw them together and noticed the compact in Billie's hand. Soon after, Hope/Gina invited Billie to lunch and said she wanted them to be friends. While taking a walk, they were being watched by Vivian's nephew, Nicholas Alamain, who recognized Hope as Princess Gina. A mugger tried to steal Billie's purse, which ended up in the river. Billie was upset because the compact was in her purse. Shortly after, Hope/Gina, wearing scuba gear, pulled the compact out of the river. Hope/Gina showed John the compact, but he had no recollection of it. Later, Bo presented Hope/Gina with a bouquet of flowers. But the romantic moment was quickly killed when they started arguing about Stefano. Bo accused her of being under Stefano's spell. Angered, Hope/Gina responded that she wished she really were Princess Gina. Hope/Gina blackmailed Rolf into turning John back into the man she once knew. Rolf said he could do it, provided he could coax John into the secret room in the DiMera mansion. Meanwhile, Bo offered Vivian a deal. If Vivian helped him find out what Stefano's plan is with Hope, Bo would insure that Victor forgave her before she died. Vivian agreed to the proposal. Vivian was delighted to be reunited with Nicholas. Vivian privately confided to Nicholas that she wasn't really dying.
In an attempt to expose Stefano, Vivian conspired with Nicholas and Bo. Meanwhile, Gina became nervous when Stefano ordered her to complete the forgeries before the end of the day. Gina asked Stefano if he would bring back the old John. Instead, Stefano instructed Rolf to turn John back into the Pawn. When Greta saw a painting from Jonesy's townhouse, she thought it looked like Princess Gina's work. In a tense face-off with Gina, Marlena demanded that she halt the search into John's missing years because he was no longer interested. Shortly after, John met with Stefano and said that Marlena's deal with him to save Sami was off. When Stefano commented that he doubted Marlena would go back on her word, John warned him to stay away from her. Later, Marlena was alarmed when she found John, in a trancelike state, preparing to jump over the penthouse balcony. When John was struck by another migraine he nearly lost his balance, but Marlena rescued him. At Vivian's dinner party, Nicholas flirted with Kate, not realizing who she was. Meanwhile, John announced his plans to marry Marlena, which disturbed Gina and Stefano. Later, Bo confided to Greta his suspicion that something was going on between Gina and Stefano. Shortly after, Stefano was outraged to discover that Gina hadn't completed the forgeries. Soon after, Bo and Greta broke into the townhouse and looked at the seascape painting, not realizing that Gina had painted over the Gauguin beneath it.
Later, Bo visited Lili and asked if it was possible that Hope and Stefano were working together. After Bo showed Lili an intimate photo of Stefano and Hope together, she wondered if it might be true. When Bo took the seascape painting to an expert, he suggested that another painting was hidden underneath. When Gina learned from Greta that Bo was seeing an art expert, she raced off. Bo tried to follow Gina, who had run a red light, but was stopped by the police. When Bo arrived at the townhouse, Gina hid and watched him. She fumed over his interference. Later, when Bo encountered her, Gina pretended to be Hope. Bo accused her of painting over a valuable piece of work. During the confrontation, there was an explosion, Bo and Gina pulled art out of the house. Suddenly, Gina "remembered" that she left a painting inside. Inside, Gina quickly replaced the Gauguin with her forgery. Meanwhile, Stefano plotted to sabotage John and Marlena's wedding. Gina was angry that Bo interfered in the art forgery scheme. Gina, pretending to be Hope, asked Bo why he was so interested in the art. Bo theorized that Gina painted over it. When an explosion occurred, Bo and Gina pulled the art out of the townhouse. Gina pretended there was one painting left inside and used the opportunity to switch the Gauguin with her painting.
Before their wedding, John presented Marlena with a gold locket that had their wedding date engraved on it. Marlena wanted Carrie to be part of the wedding party, but she declined because Sami was already involved. Eric agreed to stand up for John. Later, John confided to Marlena that he's been plagued by disturbing memories. Meanwhile, Rolf showed Gina the device that she would use to transform John. Gina added that she would use her compact to render John unconscious. To keep suspicion off of himself, Stefano arranged a flight to Europe. Right before the ceremony, Gina arranged to meet with John privately. After revealing that Stefano left town, Gina gave John a portrait that she painted of him. Gina, however, wasn't able to transform John because of complications. Soon after, Gina arrived at the wedding ceremony, followed by John. Marlena and John pledged their eternal love, which prompted tears from Gina. In the bathroom, Billie overheard Gina proclaim her love for John. As Marlena and John prepared to board a private jet for their honeymoon, Gina overheard that they were going to Hawaii. Later, Bo found a note from Gina saying that she had left town. He worried that she left to join Stefano in Europe. In a talk with Greta, Billie and Eric about Hope's unusual behavior, the group finally realized that Stefano had transformed Hope into Gina several months ago. Aboard his own jet, Stefano was outraged to learn that Marlena and John were wed. He directed his pilot to return to Salem. When the jet landed, Bo confronted Stefano about Hope.

In Hawaii, while walking on the beach, John and Marlena spotted a drowning woman. John jumped into save her, but was shot with a tranquilizer gun, dragged out to sea by a man and placed aboard a submarine. Moments later, Gina also boarded. On the shore, Marlena called for help. When John awoke, he saw Gina and thought it was 1985. They shared a passionate kiss. Seconds later, John recalled being told by Stefano that he would be transformed into Roman Brady. After John thanked Gina for rescuing him from Stefano, they made love, with Gina seducing him every step of the way. Bo's confrontation with Stefano was interrupted by a call from Marlena, who told him about John's disappearance. When Stefano learned that Bo was enroute to Hawaii, he followed. At the hotel, Marlena ran into Stefano, who insisted he didn't know where John and Gina were, but added he intended to find them. When John's ripped, bloody pants washed ashore, Marlena worried that sharks had attacked him. Meanwhile, Stefano boarded the submarine, where he found John and Gina. Furious, John attacked Stefano with a knife, but was stopped by Stefano's thugs. As John was dragged away, he instructed Gina to get the letter he sent her in Paris. But Gina was baffled. |

Gina wasn't happy to find Bo in Paris. Bo said he wanted to learn more about Princess Gina's life.
At a Paris cafe, Eric suggested to Greta that they visit the house where she grew up. Greta pulled out the compact that Billie gave her in Salem.
In the castle, Princess Gina became emotional imagining that she lost the compact John had given her. In Salem, Nicholas visited Dr. Wu to obtain a device that would help his aunt. Vivian admitted to Stefano that she wasn't dying and that she knew about his townhouse and the treasures inside. Stefano, who was stunned, expressed hurt that Lexie was in on the plan. Vivian agreed to keep Stefano's secret, provided he divorce her. Vivian added that she wanted his Titan stock and the townhouse. Lexie told Abe about her deception, which upset him. Meanwhile, Vivian informed Kate that she was no longer dying. Nicholas told Vivian he secured the financing for Kate's Internet venture. When Vivian expressed surprise, Nicholas insisted he was trying to help the company. Later, Nicholas visited Victor and revealed that Vivian wasn't dying. Furthermore, she was divorcing Stefano. Victor told Nicholas to inform Vivian that Kate would run Titan. Kate wasn't pleased to see Nicholas in Victor's room. Later, Kate shared with Vivian her and Victor's plans to marry after his recovery. Later, Vivian visited Victor's doctor who revealed that his recovery wasn't going well.
At dinner in Paris, Bo presented Gina with a compact similar to the one Billie found. Gina was stunned. They were soon joined by Greta and Eric. Greta said she believed that her mother went insane after losing John. Gina insisted that wasn't what happened. Later, Eric told Bo about the key he found in the compact. Bo suspected it belonged to a safety deposit box. Bo, Eric and Greta went to the Faversham bank, and gained access to the box. Inside, they found cash, jewels, passports, false I.D.s for both Gina and John, and two deeds, one to the house Greta grew up in, and one outside the city.
In Paris, Stefano surprised Gina and said he spared her life so that she could steal the last Renet. Gina insisted that it may be difficult because Bo followed her to Paris. Stefano handed Gina a potion created by Rolf and directed her to slip it to Bo.
At the castle, Princess Gina's right-hand man, Kurt, announced that there were visitors in her apartment (Bo and Gina).
Bo told Gina about his discovery and accused her of kidnapping John on his honeymoon. Bo also said he believed she wasn't Hope. Gina denied it. Later, Gina slipped the potion into Bo's drink. Next, Stefano and Rolf transformed him into the Pawn. Later, Stefano kissed Gina and Bo didn't react. Stefano then transformed Bo back into himself.
Kurt allowed Greta and Eric to tour the castle. Upstairs, he told Princess Gina to stay hidden in her room, per Stefano's orders.
At the Amberg cemetery, Greta wept at the sight of her mother's headstone. Eric, however, suggested it wasn't proof that her mom was actually buried there.
Marlena and John returned to Salem, where they were greeted by their adolescent daughter, Belle. John learned from Vivian that Stefano was in Europe. Gina called from Paris and asked if John and Marlena were okay. John ordered her not to phone him again. John told Marlena and Belle that he wanted to go to France to help Bo. Marlena reluctantly consented to John's trip.
Princess Gina knocked Kurt unconscious and watched as her daughter Greta slept.
After having a nightmare in which John and Bo were in a fight, "Gina" finally realized that she still had feelings for Bo. She resisted Stefano's command to give Bo more potion but was eventually forced to continue the dosage until she got back the last Renet. Meanwhile in Paris, Bo continued to suffer from a string of dizzy spells and sickness. He convinced John that Hope was "Gina" and that Stefano had complete control over her. As part of their plan to get Hope back, John broke "Gina's" heart and told her that Marlena was the only woman for him. Later, Bo informed Julie, Doug, and Alice about Hope's transformation and asked for their cooperation. The real Hope began to shine through when Doug, Bo, and Julie began to jog her memory by reminiscing about the past. The team continued to work on "Gina's" memory but Stefano was determined to stay in control. When he commanded "Gina" to give more potion to Bo, the real Hope refused! Bo was thrilled when he saw the real Hope return and he promised to protect her from Stefano. Bo convinced a skeptical "Gina" to go through with Stefano's plan to steal the last Renet so that they could put him behind bars. Doug and Julie, however, were concerned when Bo told them of the risky plan involving "Gina" at the Harrimans' party. A playful game of hide and seek heated up when Greta and Eric shared their first kiss. Kurt planned on telling Greta about her mother but she and Eric returned to Salem before he could tell her the truth. In Salem, Greta expressed her gratitude to Eric for his help. Later at the hospital, however, Greta was crushed when she saw Eric hugging Nicole. Later Nicole feigned being extremely drunk so that Eric would escort her home. She confessed her love and tried to seduce Eric but he didn't fall for it.
Bo was captured by Bart (in disguise) and dragged to a remote warehouse to be burned alive. Bo used his credit card to cut himself loose and made a valiant escape. Meanwhile, "Gina" secretly lowered herself into the Harriman gallery and switched the Renets. Bo tried to convince "Gina" to help him nail Stefano for art theft by she was still under Stefano's influence. The Harrimans accused Bo of stealing their art work and he was promptly arrested. Later, "Countess Ilse" (Princess Gina) confronted "Gina" and tried to warn her about Stefano. She urged "Gina" not to hand the painting over to him. "Gina" rocked "Ilse's" world when she informed her that John was married with children and that they had once had an affair. "Ilse" made "Gina" promise to never reveal their connection. Later, Princess Gina sneaked into the secret control room and stole the disk containing all of Hope's memories. This was all part of her plan to do away with "Gina" and Stefano in order to win back John for herself. Meanwhile, "Gina" was confronted by a hologram of Princess Gina who attempted to convince her to join forces against Stefano. Bo entered the room and a confused "Gina" finally decided to let Hope shine through. Bo was overjoyed by the return of his "Fancy Face." The two made up and agreed that they never wanted to loose each other again. Later, Hope revealed to "Ilse" that she was no longer "Gina." She proposed that they set up a meeting with Stefano and invite the ISA to arrest him. "Ilse" was furious with the changes to her plan and Hope was stunned when she lifted her veil to reveal herself as Princess Gina! With the truth exposed, Princess Gina urged Hope to reveal the whereabouts of the painting but Hope wouldn't budge. Princess Gina bludgeoned Hope on the head with a sharp object and knocking her out cold. Later, Stefano discovered that "Countess Ilse" was involved with the stealing of the painting. He tracked her down and was stunned to discover that "Ilse" was really Princess Gina. She gave him an ultimatum: He could keep Hope, or his precious Renet. Stefano moved to the wall and tore down a painting to reveal Renet's "Spring Morning" hidden beneath. His delight turned to horror when Princess Gina set the painting on fire and doused him with turpentine. He was set ablaze and Princess Gina escaped to the turret were Hope was being held prisoner. Hope pleaded with Kurt to release her but he didn't give in.
Meanwhile, Princess Gina and Stefano came face to face on the bridge and began a battle to the death. Unbeknownst to Stefano, Princess Gina survived the ordeal and, acting as Hope, she phoned Bo and Shawn to informed them that she was back in Salem aboard the Fancy Face II. Overjoyed, Bo traveled to the boat and the two shared a meaningful reunion. Shawn, however, was upset by the lack of attention she showed him and stormed off. Hope attempted to hitch a ride on a cargo plane back to Salem but she didn't have any money. She left a message for Bo and when Princess Gina overheard, she called Kurt and ordered him find Hope and detain her. Later, Hope escaped Kurt's clutches and dove into a turbulent river. Meanwhile, Stefano and Rolf made the final preparations for the "transformation." Despite Rolf's warnings that the satellite signal could be too strong, Stefano O.K.'d the plan. The transformation began and Hope was zapped unconscious in the river. Later, Kurt recovered Hope's half-drowned body and she awoke unable remember anything! Kurt told her that he was her husband and tried to nurse her back to health. Later, Kurt reluctantly called a doctor to check up on Hope but refused to take her to the hospital. Therese and Claude confronted Kurt with a picture of Hope in the newspaper and finally realized that he was married to Princess Gina. Later, a suspicious Claude called the police.
Meanwhile in Salem, "Hope" rejoiced as she felt the transformation. When she came face to face with Marlena, the woman who stole her John, she was enraged. After cutting off all her hair, "Hope" confronted Marlena with a pair of scissors. John interrupted "Hope's' attack and she confessed that she was going through hard times. "Hope" took up Marlena's offer for therapy. Under hypnosis, "Hope" lied and told Marlena that she had an affair with John before their wedding. Later, "Hope" was crushed when John told her that he truly loved Marlena. After Bo and "Hope" shared a kiss, he enlisted the help of Shawn to get "Hope" back 100%. During another session with Marlena, "Hope" continued to lie about her involvement with John. When she realized that she could never have John, however, "Hope" decided to become Hope Williams so that she could be a family with Shawn and Bo. Meanwhile, Stefano removed the bandages from his face and traveled to Salem to get confirmation on "Hope's" survival and transformation. As Bo and "Hope" got ready to chaperon the high school dance, I. S.A. agents arrived and began questioning Lili about Gina Von Amberg. They questioned "Hope" about the painting and she fainted. Back at the castle, police interrogated Hope about the stolen paintings and she stated that she was not Princess Gina and that this was a case of mistaken identity. Kurt urged Hope to run from the authorities and she demanded to know what was going on. After looking in Kurt's wallet, Hope was shocked to learn that he was single. She tried to get her memories back but Kurt locked her back in the turret before she realized what was going on. "Hope" finally told Greta that she was her daughter and proved it by showing her a dried flower that Greta had given her years ago. She informed Greta that the real Hope was dead and tried to concoct a logical explanation. She made Greta promise to keep her identity a secret. Later, Bo and "Hope" made love and Bo noticed that something wasn't right. He considered proposing to "Hope" thinking that that could repair the strangeness in their relationship.
Meanwhile, "Hope" packed a small gun in her purse and went on a mission to find Stefano. As Hope, she confronted Stefano at gunpoint and told him that the real Renet still existed and that he could have it if he left town forever. She led him to the Renet but Kurt and Hope attacked them both. Later, Hope found herself locked back in the turret with an unconscious Stefano! When Stefano revived, he tried to strangle Hope but she convinced him that she wasn't Gina. In a touching moment, both Hope and Stefano fashioned a small Christmas tree and prayed for their release. Later, Stefano made a makeshift transmitter from an old phonograph and sent an S.O.S. message to anyone listening. Meanwhile, Hope kept her faith in Bo. Eric noticed that something was troubling Greta and reassured her that he wasn't interested in Nicole. Later, Nicole sabotaged Eric's romantic picnic with Greta by placing a condom in the basket. Greta was totally shocked when she discovered the condom and left very upset. Later, she confronted Eric about the condom and he denied any involvement and promised to always be up front and honest.
Meanwhile, Shawn voiced his concerns about his "mother" to Marlena and John. Marlena hypnotized "Hope" and discovered that she had a severe split personality conflict. Later, at the Christmas gathering, "Hope" shocked everyone by asking Bo to marry her. After a heartfelt speech, Bo proudly accepted. Unhappy with the proposal, Shawn refused to be in the wedding and contemplated joining the merchant marines. After a bonding father/son moment, Shawn told his father that he would like to speak to "Hope" alone. Later, Marlena told "Hope" that she was in no position to get married and the two women argued. The day of the ceremony, "Hope" threw Marlena out of the room and revealed to Greta that she had a gun under her dress. John attended "Hope's" wedding and Bart and Rolf followed in disguise. After the ceremony, everyone traveled to the reception at the penthouse grill. John mentioned to Marlena that he was having strange memories with "Hope."

Meanwhile, Shawn overheard "Hope" calling Kurt to check up on things. Realizing that things weren't working out, "Lili" convinced "Hope" that her only choice was to divorce Bo and take Greta back to Europe immediately. Before she could leave, however, Shawn asked to have a word with her on the balcony. "Hope" pulled out her gun and ordered Shawn to jump over the ledge! When Marlena entered, "Hope" turned the gun on her and, when Marlena refused to jump, "Hope" shot her. Bo struggled to get the gun from "Hope" and she was shot in the process. |

Craig and Lexie operated on her ruptured aorta but it didn't look hopeful. Bo lashed out at Marlena in anger and frustration and blamed her for withholding information about "Hope's" emotional state. Bo and Shawn were at odds over "Hope" but decided to come together for her sake. At church, Doug and Julie were devastated as they prayed for their daughter. At the hospital, "Hope" tried to tell Shawn and Bo her real identity but was dead before the truth came out. Marlena and John were blown away by news of "Hope's" death and Marlena decided to give up her practice. John was determined to find out what happened during "Hope's" sessions with Marlena so he stole her confidential client file. After "Hope's" death, Victor and Abe joined forces to track down Stefano. They discovered that he was in Europe and vowed to go after him. Lili tried to convince Doug and Julie that "Hope" was really Princess Gina. Knowing that the real Hope never had her appendix removed, they call the crematorium to examine "Hope's" corpse. When the body was examined, Lili detected a faint scar giving Doug and Julie hope. Finally, the DNA results came in and confirmed that the body indeed belonged to Princess Gina. Still locked in the turret, Hope sensed that Shawn was in danger and became more and more desperate. Stefano succeeded in contacting a radio station with his transmitter but was cut off before he could get help. When Kurt opened the metal door to give them food, Stefano grabbed his arm and tried to get the keys but was stabbed in the process. Hope gave Stefano a bracelet from Bo so that he could repair the transmitter. Later, Hope became violently ill and begged Kurt to let her see a doctor. Secretly, Hope feared that she was pregnant. These story twists paved the way for most of the stories to this day such as the "Who's the Daddy" and "Terror in the Skies."
