Prologue:
After losing Austin to Carrie, Sami searched for a new beau. She met him, and his name was Franco Kelly, a man with a hidden mob past and a fake green card. Franco was looking for a woman to marry so that he could stay in the US if the truth about his fake green card was ever revealed. So he began dating Sami and charmed her with rooftop dinners and nights of passion, never telling her that he was just with her to stay in the US.
Meanwhile, Kate was looking for a way to destroy Sami's life as revenge for the lies that Sami had told in the years before. So after months of looking for ways to get revenge on Sami, she met one of Franco's old mob friends, Roberto. Through talking to Roberto, she figured out that Franco was only with Sami to stay in the US due to his fake green card. Kate didn't know how to use this information to destroy Sami, though. But she found out soon enough. Franco proposed to Sami, and Sami accepted. Franco would now be able to live in the US, fake green card or not. After Kate found out about the wedding, which would take place at her home, the Kiriakis Mansion, she figured that she would reveal the truth about Franco's deception to Sami on the wedding day to embarrass Sami, eventually destroying her. But an interesting turn of events began...
The Murder:
The wedding day came soon enough, and lies and deceit were in the air at the Kiriakis Mansion. Suspense was high, as the hours were counted down to the wedding. Meanwhile, Austin began having suspicions of Franco, also. Although Sami had hurt and lied to Austin in the past, he still felt the need to protect her. So he decided to do some investigating on Franco before he was to let Sami marry him. Austin took a drive down to Franco's hotel room, where Franco was supposed to be getting ready for a wedding. But when Austin arrived outside Franco's door, he heard Franco having sex with a woman. That woman's name was Candy Lace, a woman who he had met at a bar a few weeks before. Austin rushed out to the Kiriakis Mansion guest house to tell Sami the truth. Austin arrived to see Sami in her wedding dress, happy about her upcoming wedding. Just as Austin started explaining to Sami that Franco was cheating on her, Franco arrived at the Kiriakis Mansion living room, where he ran into Kate, who was happy about bringing Sami down in a few hours. Meanwhile, back at the Kiriakis guest house, Austin told Sami the truth: Franco had been cheating on her, and he may have a secret past in illegal actions. Sami ripped the veil off her head and ran out of the guest house in search for Franco, while yelling once to Austin, "I'm going to kill that bastard!"
Back at the Kiriakis living room, Kate told Franco that she knows the truth about his fake green card. Franco was furious. Kate also told him that she was going to tell Sami the truth, to bring them both down. As Kate got on the phone to call Detective Agent Raskin, Franco grabbed a fire poker, held it over his head, and thrusted to strike Kate in the head with it. But before it hit Kate's head, a shot came through the foyer doorway, shooting Franco in the chest, killing him. The shooter was Kate's spoiled son, Lucas. Lucas had just come to the Kiriakis mansion to take kidnap his son, Will (Which is a different storyline altogether). Lucas saw that Franco was about to strike Kate, so he grabbed Sami's gun, since he knew where she hid it, and he shot Franco. Kate was stunned. It was only Kate and Lucas in the room, with a dead and bleeding Franco on the floor in front of the couch. Kate knew that Lucas would be caught, so to save her son, she pushed Lucas out of the house, telling him not to say anything. While Kate was telling Lucas this, Sami stumbled in the living room, not seeing Kate and Lucas, and passed out at the sight of Franco's dead body. When Kate arrived back at the living room, she saw Sami passed out. Kate had to think quickly. So she dragged Sami's body into the foyer doorway, where the shots were fired. She put the gun in Sami's hand after wiping off the handprints, and she put the fire poker back. Kate rushed upstairs, so that she wouldn't be seen when the body was found. Meanwhile, Austin, who was outside, knew that Sami was mad about Franco's deception of her, so he rushed into the living room with Carrie before Sami did something she would regret. They arrived to find Franco's dead body, and Sami passed out with a smoking gun in her hand. All the police arrived, as Sami awakened. Sami couldn't remember anything from the past few hours, but the police figured Sami killed Franco. Sami, who was frustrated about not remembering killing Franco, was determined to get herself off the hook, since she wasn't certain whether she was the killer or not.
Sami was put through a trial, and found guilty. But Sami couldn't bare being in prison, nor the thought of execuation. So she agreed to go on the run with Austin. They were on the run for a few months where they stayed in a woman's secluded house. This woman was Tracey Simpson, who believed Sami was innocent. They hid out for months, having close encounters with police, and Mike and Carrie. But they were eventually caught. Austin was freed through a dead with Sami and the DA, but Sami would be executed.....in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Lucas was feeling guilty about him and his mother framing Sami, for a crime that he committed. But Kate was determined to keep Lucas's mouth shut. So to get Sami off the hook to keep Lucas's mouth quiet, she blackmailed Roberto, Franco's old mob friend, into confessing for the murder (as he lay on his deathbed), saying he's the one who shot Franco. Roberto agreed, and called the station confessing. The police station were just calling the execution chamber to stop the execution, but it was too late. All of the execution drugs were already injected. Meanwhile, Lucas burst in the room, also confessing of killing Franco. The guilt was just too much to bare for him. But both Roberto and Lucas's confessions were useless now, the execution drugs had already been injected. For hours, Sami's family prayed to God that he gives them Sami back. The prayers worked. Sami came back to life. Her family's prayers were answered. Sami was now alive. But there was still a problem: Who was telling the truth about killing Franco? Roberto, or Lucas? The police decided to believe that Roberto was the real killer. Roberto later died. Lucas and Kate were off the hook, as was Sami. The truth has never been revealed about who really killed Franco (Which it was really Lucas) but everyone still thinks that Kate and Lucas were involved somehow. Shall the truth forever be buried.
