Shane's Fairy Tale

Prince AndrewIn February of 1989, Eve Donovan was kidnapped by Eddie Reed. She was missing for a long time, and her disappearance caused much grief in the Donovan household. Little Andrew, in particular, missed his sister very much. One stormy night when Andrew couldn't get to sleep, Shane decided to tell his son a fairy tale. His imaginative story centered around the missing Princess Eve, whom everyone in the kingdom was trying to find. The funny, sometimes-corny, and definitely memorable story was a chance for most of the Days cast to step into very different light-hearted roles. Shane's Fairy Tale was featured over two episodes that aired February 22 and 24, 1989.

The fairy tale was quite simple, and Shane apparently based his characters on the people he knew. The story began with the royal family -- King Shane, Queen Kimberly, and Prince Andrew -- overly depressed because Princess Eve had been kidnapped by an evil witch. They decided to put a reward out to anyone who could find her. The reward -- half of the kingdom and a small fortune -- attracted the attention of the main "bad guy bashers" in the kingdom, Sir Roman of Brady and Steve Hood. Each hero set out to find Princess Eve. The magical Wizard and Wizdress appeared to both men to give them magic talismans that would aid them in their quest. Sir Roman received a magic medallion, while Steve Hood received a magic morsel (a doughnut.) The two men left their loving women, Lady Diana and Maid Kayla, behind. Meanwhile, the evil Victor, Count of Kiriakis, conspired with Steve Hood's evil brother, Lord Jacketh of Deveraux, to: rescue princess Eve, get the entire kingdom for her safe return, and take Lady Diana and Maid Kayla as their wives. In the end, their own greed was their downfall. They stole the heroes' magic talismans and used them; unbeknownst to them, the talismans had the opposite effect when used by evil. So when they used them, they died. When princess Eve was found, she was locked in turret with no way to climb down. No one could climb up because of a spell the witch had placed. Finally, the Wizard remembered something that could help. Only the innocence of a child could conquer the witch's spell, so it was Prince Andrew who finally saved the Princess. And of course, everyone lived happily ever after.

King Shane

Prince Andrew and Queen Kimberly

King Shane, Queen Kimberly, and Prince Andrew are saddenned over Princess Eve's disappearance. Nothing cheers them up. They decide to offer a reward for the Princess' safe return.

Sir Roman of Brady

Steve Hood

Sir Roman of Brady and Steve Hood offer to find the Princess. They don't get along (Steve Hood constantly pulls down Sir Roman's visor, and Sir Roman constantly makes fun of Steve Hood's hosiery), so they go their separate ways hoping to find the Princess before the other.

Sir Abraham

Steve Hood's Very Hairy Merry Men

Sir Roman set off on his quest with his trusty sidekick, Sir Abraham. Sir Abraham was peeved because he wanted to be something more than a sidekick, so Sir Roman promised to give him a share of the kingdom. Steve Hood received help from his band of Very Hairy Merry Men (Marcus, Emilio, and Julio.) They didn't get anything out of helping Steve Hood; they were happy just rapping whenever possible.

Court Jester

The Wizard and Wizdress

The court Jester tried to cheer up the royal family with corny jokes without success. They finally laughed when she vowed to find Princess Eve, even though she was serious. Meanwhile, the Wizard and Wizdress appeared to our heroes to give them magical charms.

Lady Diana

Maid Kayla

Lady Diana (the original Lady Di) and Maid Kayla stayed home while their men searched for the Princess. However, they soon realized that they were often the ones to get their men out of jams, so they decided to go out and help. They wound up being captured by...

Lord Jacketh of Deveraux

Victor, Count of Kiriakis

...the evil Lord Jacketh of Deveraux and Victor, Count of Kiriakis. The two men, who were infatuated with the women, came up with a plan to keep them AND get the entire kingdom by following Sir Roman and Steve Hood and saving Princess Eve themselves. Their plan failed when they used the magic charms, which have a negative effect when used by evil.

Nico, Joey, and Dave

Princess Eve

Even Shane's minor acquaintances appeared in his fairy tale. Dave, the waiter at Blondie's, and Joey, the bartender at Shenanigans, were court pages. Nico, Victor's bodyguard, was Count Victor's henchman. In the end, Princess Eve was found in a turret and rescued by Prince Andrew.
