Background

After it was revealed at Billie's trial that Kate was still married to Curtis Brown, Victor dropped her. Kate rapidly divorced Curtis. Blissfully happy, Vivian decided to move in for the kill. She planned a trip to the Greek Isles and planned surprising Victor with it. She, of course, was sure he'd say yes. Only, a desperate Kate turned to Caroline and asked her to talk to Victor. Caroline did. She reminded him of his faith and love to family and love and Victor decided to take Kate back. Kate rejoiced and hurried to make wedding plans, but Victor stopped her, telling her to wait, adding he'd marry her only after she had his baby. Victor took Kate back, while mischievous and resourceful Vivian decided she had to take care of that.

The Story

Victor and Kate decided to get pregnant using the in-vitro fertilization process. They turned to Dr. Layton, an expert in the filed. They arrived at his office to start inducing ovulation. Dr. Layton told them Kate's blood pressure was high and so they should wait a few days. Kate was disappointed, but Victor assured her a few days wouldn't matter. They left and Vivian and Ivan arrived. Vivian introduced Ivan to Dr. Layton as her fiance. She told him she'd like to get pregnant with Ivan's baby, using the in-vitro process. The doctor exited the room to get the paperwork and Ivan got really excited that he and Madame would have a baby together, but Vivian slapped him across the face and brought him back to reality, telling him that was only a cover up for her to be able to snoop around the doctor's office, as she wouldn't let Kate have Victor's baby.

After getting her hormone shot from Ivan, Vivian and Ivan went to Salem Place. Vivian called Dr. Layton and set an appointment for that day, at noon, before Kate's. Victor arrived and told Vivian he'd hoped he didn't hurt her when he told her he was getting back together with Kate. Vivian responded he didn't and he added that he really hoped she'd find someone. To herself, Vivian said he could bet his life she would...After he left, Vivian ordered Ivan to bring her the book she had about in-vitro fertilization. She explained she needed that, to be sure she knew what she was doing at the doctor's lab, where she'd make sure Kate wouldn't have Victor's baby.

Meanwhile, Dr. Layton called Kate and asked her to come earlier to her appointment. Vivian arrived for her appointment and the doctor took some blood for tests. He asked Vivian to return later for the results. Vivian went outside to Ivan and complained she wasn't left alone for a second to fish around for Kate's file. Ivan told Madame he felt the hormone shots she was getting were making her too hyperactive. A young orderly passed by and Vivian checked out his assets, remarking young men nowadays are very healthy looking...She later bumped into Laura at Salem Place. Laura told her she heard Victor and Kate were back together again. She asked Vivian if she was throwing in the towel and Vivian assured her Kate would very soon get on her broomstick and fly far, far away.

Kate arrived to get another ovulation inducement shot just as Vivian returned for her test results. Amazed to see her there, Kate asked Vivian what was she doing there and assured her Victor would never take her back, when she deduced Vivian was there to ruin her and Victor's plans to have a baby. Vivian decided to tamper with Kate's tubes at the lab and to do so, she informed Ivan they would keep up the charade of being a couple.

A few days later, Kate and Victor arrived at Brady's Pub. They talked about their future son. They said that both of them would get a second chance with that child, as they both had missed out on a lot of their children's lives. When Kate started thinking about Billie, Victor calmed her mind and asked her not to think about that and to concentrate on the baby. Kate asked him what would happen if she didn't have a baby. She asked him if he would go back to Vivian. Victor reassured her that he was not interested in Vivian and asked her to stop 'what ifing'. Kate remarked that she had a bad feeling about Vivian and that she knew she was out to harm her. Victor reminded her again to take it easy and said he'd go over to the hospital to talk to the doctor about her working. Victor left as Kate asked Caroline to talk to her. Kate told her of her suspicions concerning Vivian, as Caroline reassured her to think only about Victor and her family and not of Vivian.

Victor arrived at Dr. Layton's office. He was amazed to find Vivian there. He asked Vivian if she was there to sabotage things for him and Kate and when Vivian just mumbled, he yelled Kate was right. Vivian relaxed him and told him that after their talk, she realized she had a lot of love to give someone. Dr. Layton came out and asked Vivian how was his patient doing. Victor was amazed and asked Vivian if she was pregnant, but Vivian told him about wanting to have a baby and explained Ivan would be the sperm donor. Victor congratulated her and promised he wouldn't tell anyone. After Victor left, Vivian inevitably got an ovulation inducement shot and Ivan again got excited Vivian would have a baby, but she assured him she didn't want to spend nine months being as fat as a blimp, only to have small screaming infant. Kate arrived at the hospital and Victor told her the doctor said she could keep working as long as she took it easy. Vivian eavesdropped and told Ivan she now knew how to stop Kate from having Victor's baby.

A few days later, Kate and Victor were at Dr. Layton's office. The doctor prepped Kate for the procedure. Outside, Vivian arrived and the nurse told her that the doctor would be with her shortly. She gave Ivan a plastic cup, telling him they'd need his specimen and pointed at a door behind him. Ivan panicked, as Vivian ordered him to get inside the room, work his imagination and to let nature do his course. After he came out of the room, he told Madame that he had thought of her in her low-cut black dress. Vivian asked him to spare her the details, as she approached the door and listened in on what was going on inside. Inside, the doctor had just finished the procedure on Kate, and was putting Kate's fertilized eggs' dish in the refrigerator. Victor and Kate left. Vivian was asked in, and later the doctor finished the same procedure on her, and put the same dish next to Kate's in the refrigerator, each one separately and accordingly labeled. Dr. Layton left the room, to let Vivian rest, so she took Kate's dish out of the refrigerator and told Ivan she'd pour it down the drain.

At home, Victor gave Kate a baby album. He left and Kate started writing in it about the procedure and how she felt. At the doctor's office, Ivan grabbed the dish from Vivian's hands and asked her what she thought Victor would say when he found out she murdered his son. Vivian returned the dish to the refrigerator, as a nurse came in and the two left. They bumped into Victor at Salem Place. Victor told Vivian he was glad he met her, and presented her with the same baby album he gave Kate. Although hearing Kate got the same thing, Vivian smiled and thanked Victor. He told her he was very excited about the baby and added that the woman who bore his son would be the one most close to his heart.

Victor returned home and read what Kate wrote in the baby album. She wrote about how happy she was she was given a second chance with a child and with love. Victor added something of his own--he wrote to the baby that he hoped one day he'd know how important he is to him. Kate hugged Victor and they kissed. Meanwhile, Vivian arrived at Dr. Layton's office. Ivan tried to dissuade Vivian from destroying the eggs. Vivian shushed him and then her eyes lit up. She recalled what Victor told her about the woman who bore his child and told Ivan she finally knew what to do with Kate's eggs.

At home, Kate complained to Lucas that Vivian is so ubiquitous, but was ensured by him that once she'd marry Victor, Vivian would go away. Victor arrived home, and Kate and Lucas jumped on him singing Happy Birthday and gave him a present and a nice cake. Victor thanked them saying he forgot it was his birthday. The present was a first edition of some book. Vivian stormed in and kissed Victor. She gave him a baby tape recorder one a mother wears around her stomach, as the father tapes his thought and stuff he wants to tell the baby in, as a present. Vivian handed Kate a present for the baby, saying that'd be a peace offering gift- a silver baby rattler. Kate smiled and to gloat, told Vivian that she and Victor were very happy to be having their baby boy. Victor walked Vivian to the door, where he again told her that the woman that bore his baby, was the one most close to his heart and where he promised not to tell Kate about her trying to get pregnant, too. Outside, Vivian met Ivan and told him that she got what she wanted and that they need to get to Dr. Layton's lab quickly. Inside, Victor recorded his first message for the baby, which was that the woman who bore him was the most important and loved by him. Laura sneaked into Dr. Layton's office and looked for a prescription. She found one, and hearing noises, so hid in another room (Laura was anxious she wouldn't be able to handle everyday pressures, so she stole prescription slips to get anti-depressant pills). Vivian and Ivan came in, as Vivian told Ivan, who asked what was she going to do, that she was going to be playing God. As Ivan told her that playing God was wrong and as Laura recognized Vivian's voice and listened, Vivian told Ivan what Victor had said about the woman that bore his son, and that she planed to connect to Victor. She picked up Kate's and hers eggs dishes, and as she looked at Ivan maliciously, she smiled and told him she was going to get pregnant with Victor's baby.

The next day, Vivian and Ivan arrived to Dr. Layton's office. He said he had to go and introduced them to a doctor Burkhardt. Dr. Burkhardt asked Vivian in to the examination room. He explained he'd double-check the egg dishes to see that she'd get her eggs and not someone else's. Vivian started panicking. The doctor reached for the dish, but then his beeper went off. He excused himself out and Vivian called Ivan in, telling him about her switching the labels on hers and Kate's egg dishes, that way so that Kate's egg dish was now labeled Vivian Alamain. She also told him about the doctor wanting to double-check. Ivan tried to dissuade Madame from going ahead with her plan, but Vivian told him she didn't come so far to stop now. Outside, Victor and Kate arrived all anxious and excited. Dr. Burkhardt asked them to wait. Ivan spotted them outside and further tried to get Madame to forget about her plan. He suggested he'd switch the labels on the dishes back, so that they would be correctly labeled and they leave, but Vivian smiled at him, telling him not to do so. She told him that with his help, she'd be implanted with Kate and Victor's embryo, betting her eyelashes at Ivan. A bit later, Vivian told Ivan she had just switched the labels back, so that Kate's eggs would be labels Kate Kiriakis. She told Ivan that he would have to create a diversion for her to re-switch the labels. Ivan was again reluctant, but Vivian told him they'd be a family with him as "Uncle Vania" and he was sold. Dr. Burkhardt reentered the room and checked the eggs. After seeing everything was in place, he approached Vivian to start the procedure. Then, Ivan falsely fainted and fell to the floor. While the doctor attended to him, moving in the speed of light, Vivian jumped off the chair and quickly changed the labels back, creating yet another hilarious Vivian moment. She returned to her chair and the switch succeeded, as Dr. Burkhardt didn't notice a thing. He started the procedure on Vivian.

A bit later, the procedure was through and Vivian was ecstatic. She told Ivan she already felt Victor's child in her. Outside, Dr. Layton told Victor and Kate he'd check their eggs' dish to see they get theirs and then would be with them. He went inside the examining room and examined the eggs and then cried out a disbelieving No, saying nothing like this has ever happened to them.

Dr. Layton was shocked and confused, as Victor kept yelling who ever was responsible for this, would pay. Dr. Layton explained to Vivian the embryo might have not clung to the uterus wall yet and so could be transferred out of her body. He asked her to agree to see if that was possible. Vivian inevitably agreed. Dr. Layton exited the room and told Victor and Kate the other woman agreed. He went to litigate with his colleagues. Inside, Vivian ordered Ivan to check in the book how long it takes for an embryo to cling to the uterus wall. Later, the doctor returned and told Victor and Kate a meeting had been set and he'd have to fly out of town for it. Ivan told Madame it takes two days for the embryo to cling after looking for it in the book. Dr. Layton entered the room and asked Vivian to meet the woman that her embryo had been planted in her, but Vivian of course, refused. He asked Vivian to go home and rest.

Two days later, Kate dreamed of Victor leaving her because she didn't give him a baby. She woke up and said she must get her baby back. Meanwhile, Vivian dreamed of her and Victor in bed talking about their newborn son. Dr. Layton arrived and told Victor and Kate that he had spoken to the specialists and that something could be done, although it was a long shot. He explained that they first need to have the other woman sign a consent form. Victor got upset and said to give the woman whatever she wants, just get her to sign! The doctor replied he'd try his best, and left. Vivian meditated in order to prepare herself for the baby. She kept humming as outside, Dr. Layton arrived. Kate phoned him on his cell-phone and told him that Victor had faxed the meeting transcripts he held to a Dr. Depula in Europe. Dr. Layton acknowledged, saying Dr. Depula was a great doctor and told her he'd call her after speaking to the woman. Victor got on the line and told the doctor that their baby was very important, threatening he'd sue him if he didn't set it all straight. The doctor entered Vivian's and told her of the meeting and of the possibility that the procedure would work. Vivian kept acting surprised, shocked and devastated. She said she wanted a baby. Dr. Layton handed her the form and asked her to sign. Vivian yelled at him that she couldn't decide just now. Dr. Layton looked at her, asking her to relax and left. After he did, Vivian smiled and told Ivan that she wished she could see Kate's face when the doctor told her that the other woman hadn't sign the form.

Dr. Layton arrived to Victor and Kate's and broke the news to them. They were both shocked. The doctor said that the lady was obviously upset and that was why she was not thinking clearly. As Kate started sobbing again, Victor yelled at the doctor that he made this error and that he needed to rectify it, as he asked him for the woman's name. Dr. Layton looked back at him, but didn't answer yet. Victor responded with an angry look and asked for the woman's name again, only more loudly this time.

The next day, Vivian and Ivan arrived to Dr. Layton's office. The doctor told Vivian he'd check to see if she was pregnant and if the embryo attached itself to the uterus. Outside, upon learning the other woman was inside the examining room, Kate burst inside, shocked to see Vivian there.

Kate accused Vivian of trying to sabotage, yet again, her relationship with Victor. She said she knew who the other woman was and that she had done something to her. Vivian acted as though she didn't know what was going on. As Kate said Vivian was always out to hurt her, Dr. Layton came in and said that he saw they'd already met. When Kate asked the doctor what did he mean, he told her that Vivian is the other woman. Kate was astounded! She then threw a fit, accusing Vivian of knowing the embryo was hers and planing everything in order to get Victor back. Kate got further upset and tried to hit Vivian. In the way, she overthrew Ivan onto the doctor's desk and almost attacked Vivian, but Dr. Layton stopped her, reminding her that her son is inside that woman. Victor arrived and to his astonishment too, Kate told him of Vivian. As Kate kept accusing Vivian of malicious plans, the doctor asked Vivian if she was willing to cooperate. Vivian didn't answer and said that a child was very important to her. Kate screamed that she demanded a test to be done, to check if the embryo had attached itself to the uterus wall.

Tow days later, Vivian arrived back to the doctor's office to have some blood drawn for the tests. Victor and Kate were also there. The doctor took the blood and Kate angrily told Vivian she was going with them to Brady's Pub to wait for the results, as she didn't want her out of her sight. They later arrive to the Pub and Victor told an astonished Shawn and Caroline the whole gloomy story. Later, the phone rang and Shawn was informed by Dr. Layton that the results were in. A courier arrived later and handed Victor the envelope with the results.

Victor opened the envelope. It read that Vivian was pregnant. Kate got frantic and got up to hit Vivian. Victor stopped her, as Vivian sat down, saying she was weak and Ivan fetched her some water. Kate kept accusing Vivian of master planning the whole thing. She screamed that she wanted her baby back, inside of her. Vivian faked a swoon and Victor grabbed her. After Vivian came to, Kate applauded her and called out "Bravo!" Victor grabbed Kate and took her aside. He explained that their baby was inside Vivian, and upsetting Vivian, was upsetting their baby. Kate said they have to make this right and that she needed to carry the baby to term. Victor replied that he loved her and that he'd try finding a way to correct the mistake. Victor went to phone Dr. Layton, as Lucas arrived and hugged his mother. Kate asked him to tell Victor she went out for air and went outside, where she met Austin. Austin hugged her and Kate told him the whole sordid affair. Inside, Vivian gloated. She told Ivan that she had succeeded and that it was only a matter of time until she had Victor. Dr. Layton arrived and informed everyone that transferring the embryo could be hazardous to it. He added that in good conscience, he couldn't be a part of it. Seeing there was not much hope, Victor turned to Vivian and asked her if she was willing to carry his and Kate's baby for him. As Vivian answered she'd do what ever Victor wanted, Kate broke down in tears. Kate screamed she wouldn't let that happen and vowed to find a doctor who could transfer the embryo. Victor went after the upset Kate, as Vivian faked another swoon and Victor grabbed her in his arms. Kate irately looked at Vivian, called her a witch and stated that she would not let her win!

Conclusion

Eventually, there was nothing Kate could do. She flew to New York and talked to specialists, but was told nothing could be done. While Kate was away in New York, Vivian took advantage of her absence, and wormed her way into the Kiriakis mansion. At first, she told Victor that the carpets at the Alamain mansion were being cleaned and it took along time for them to dry and the chemicals were dangerous, so Victor moved her into his mansion. When Kate got back, she was enraged to see Vivian there, but Victor told her Vivian was carrying their baby and would stay there. Kate and Victor signed Vivian to an agreement that stated Vivian would give them the baby once he or she was born. Kate didn't want Vivian in her house, so Vivian threw herself down the stairs and so, bought herself more time inside the mansion, as Dr. Layton told Victor Vivian couldn't climb up and down stairs and poor Vivian, said she didn't have a ground floor bedroom in her house, and of course, the Kiriakis mansion has several. Inevitably and persuaded by Victor, Kate agreed to let Vivian to stay at the mansion until the baby was born. "It's going to be a long nine moths," remarked Kate and was right, as now Vivian was closer then ever to the enemy's stronghold and could destroy Victor and Kate's upcoming marriage, from within, but that's a whole other story...
