The Coronation storyline saw the crowning of Princess Greta Von Amberg. Nearly all the citizens of Salem witnessed this triumphant moment, but a shocking turn of events resulted in a horrifying massacre of gun shots as four of Salem's citizens were marked for death. Greta's Coronation was a much hyped storyline, often times compared to the Moldavian Massacre on the hit soap "Dynasty." Several characters and storylines from Days of Our Lives came together for one huge royal event and had their lives changed forever, brought on by a passion for hate, greed, jealousy and revenge.
Prologue
Soon after Princess Gina Von Amberg is laid to rest, Gina's daughter Greta receives news that she is to inherit the title of princess. Greta is instructed to travel to a Parisian castle with a man of strong character. Austin was the man that Greta chose as her companion and after arriving at the castle and being greeted by the nasty Charles, Austin and Greta are teleported into a bizarre virtual reality "Garden of Eden". Austin and Greta are confronted with a number of challenges involving Austin's deadbeat father Curtis, a serpent, an evil version of Sami dressed as a witch and many other strange apparitions. After Austin and Greta successfully pass all of their tests in the "virtual Eden" world, Greta receives news from Ingrid Mitchell that she is to be crowned Princess at a lavish coronation. Virtually the whole of Salem is invited to this event. Greta finally stands up to Charles and banishes him from the castle. Charles then vows revenge against Greta.
Meanwhile, Sami is still battling with Lucas over custody of their son Will. With Brandon's help, Sami is trying to bring down Kate and Lucas and to prove that they were behind Franco's murder. After traveling to Italy to investigate, Sami and Brandon meet the head of the Moroni clan, Vincent and his daughter Angela. Angela had in her possession a copy of a tape with an incriminating confession from Kate regarding her part in Roberto's confession. Brandon is in love with Sami and will do anything to help her, even going as far as to propose marriage to Angela in order to get his hands on the tape but Vincent later gets possession of the tape. Sami, Brandon and Angela travel to France for Greta's coronation and Brandon and Angela plan to wed in Paris, with Sami as a witness. Sami is informed that Ingrid excluded Sami from the guest list due to her scheming ways, but that doesn't stop her. In fact, she manages finds a way to disguise herself as one of the guests on the list.
Kate knows that she is in trouble if the tape is exposed so she formulates a plan to make sure she has plenty of money to hire the most expensive lawyers to defend her. She has Victor unknowingly sign over his estate to her in the event of his death. Nicole found the codicil that Victor unknowingly signed and tells Victor everything. Victor and Nicole figure out that Kate is trying to kill Victor in order to get his money. They are both right, but Victor and Nicole manage to formulate a plan of their own to bring down Kate and Lucas. Kate had seduced Moroni in an attempt to get her hands on the confession tape. She also asked Vincent to put a hit out on Victor at the coronation. Kate and Moroni travel to the coronation and so too do Victor and Nicole.
Before the coronation, Kate meets with the hit man Sal and offers him extra money to take out Sami. Meanwhile, Vincent finds out that Brandon is in love with Sami and orders a hit on him. On top of this, Charles plans to open fire on Greta after she is crowned princess. So it seems that a killer night is ahead for the citizens of Salem, with Victor, Sami, Brandon and Greta all marked for death.
A plane full of Salemites travel to France for Greta's coronation including John, Marlena, Bo, Hope, Jennifer, Belle, Mimi, Chloe, Shaun Douglas, Phillip, Lily, Stefano and Lexie. There is tension on board between John, Marlena, Bo and Hope about the paternity of Hope's baby. Everybody on board is alarmed by the growing closeness between Stefano and Lexie and the guests on board can't help but believe that Lexie is turning into a DiMera. Stefano meets Chloe for the first time and Stefano is almost brought to tears by Chloe's beautiful voice when she sings Opera.
Upon arriving in Paris, Victor tells Phillip all about the codicil. Phillip confronts Kate but catches him in Moroni's arms and runs out. Chloe comforts Phillip during this painful time while Victor and Nicole enlist his help in their secret scam against Kate. Jack makes a surprising appearance in Paris (dressed as a waiter) to confront Jennifer so he can see his daughter Abby.
THE NIGHT OF THE CORONATION
In strolled Bo and Hope, marveling over the beauty and lavish design of the Coronation. Royal music played as everyone danced happy waltzes. Royal couples from all over the globe came to share the evening! Lord and Lady Sheraton. Dukes and Duchesses. The Contessa. John Black also arrived, but the lovely Marlena wasn't on his arm. She was at a hotel room due to marital problems. But with the need for a good evening, she eventually made her remarkable entrance as well. Kate and Vincent arrived with plans of murder on their mind, and Victor walked in with Nicole in a barely-there dress across her shoulders. The teens also arrived...Chloe, Phillip, Shawn, Belle and Mimi. They were so impressed with the sight of a Royal Coronation! Marveling over the beauty, the teens set off on their own adventure of talks about love-making and deception. But they weren't the only people with their own chit-chat.
Stefano DiMera and his daughter Lexie Carver arrived at the Coronation as well. Stefano was trying to coax Lexie into moving to Paris, which was the site of the Coronation, so that she could escape her problems in Salem. Perhaps having such fun at a gala would be enough to woo her into making Paris her new home. The crowd continued to grow as Jack Devereaux made his appearance disguised as a waiter, planning to surprise his ex-love Jennifer Horton, who was also in attendance. The music continued to play and the drinks began to flow as the minutes ticked by for the final crowning of Greta Von Amburg as the Princess. In walked Brandon, with his new wife Angela on his arm. They were carrying the infamous tape with the proof that Kate meddled with murder information that could place her behind bars. But the tape would do no good unless they could relay it to Sami...and she wasn't invited to the event, so she was forbidden to enter!

But Sami had a plan. She dressed up in disguise as an old woman! Her disguise was completed with a huge black gown and a face-mask. This appeared to work, because she slipped right in the Coronation without a problem! Now all she had to do was wait for the moment of Greta's crowning and Angela would finally give her the tape that she had been waiting for.

In the back room, Greta was beginning to grow nervous. She was speaking with Austin about how her life was about to be changed, and he offered her comfort. But she was right. Her life was about to be changed...and she had no clue how! A mysterious man named Charles was waltzing around the Coronation with a gun, planning to murder Greta so that he could inherit all of the Von Amburg family treasures instead of her! The proudest moment of her life, the crowning, could have also turned out to be the most terrifying.
Back out in the Coronation, Bo and Hope were dancing gallantly with the royalty. John and Marlena spun around the dance floor, finally giving themselves a break from their marital woes. They enjoyed watching their daughter Belle in such a beautiful pink dress standing with such poise. Speaking of Belle, she was growing jealous that her crush, Shawn Douglas, was spending more time with her best friend Mimi than her. This resulted in a sad confrontation that left Belle spouting a rude comment to Mimi as she turned and walked away. It's too bad that she had no clue what was about to happen to Mimi, or she would have never acted as rudely as she did.

Kate and Vincent were dressed in their best, waiting for the moment that their hired hitmen would aim their guns and murder Victor...as well as Sami if they had the chance. But Sami was in disguise, so the chances of her being shot were slim. However, as time progressed, Kate began to have a change of heart. She realized that murdering people is wrong and urged Vincent to call off the hit. However, it was too late, as his hitmen were all in their positions. But Kate wouldn't accept that! Her sudden change of heart caused her to think about haulting the Coronation in order to stop the killings. But Vincent couldn't have Kate revealing him as a meddling hitman, so he had her drugged and tossed out in the bushes beneath the entrance. |

Meanwhile, Jennifer was in for a surprise when she realized that the man posing as a waiter wasn't really a waiter after all...he was her ex-lover Jack Deveraux! She was immediately shocked that he would go to such lengths to surprise her and try to bring them back together. But apparently his lengths were too far, because it did nothing more than upset Jennifer. They immediately got into an argument, turning into the reaction of oil and water. So they decided that a Royal Coronation wasn't the place to fight, so they left the event just before the crowning. They stood outside bickering just before they walked away to leave. In the process, Jack took one last sip of his drink and tossed it in the bushes as it hit a drugged and passed out Kate's face. Jack and Jennifer walked away, as Kate was secretly awakened by the splash. When she finally came to her senses, she realized that she had been drugged and had to get into the Coronation before blood was shed!

The minutes ticked by as the trumpets finally sounded and Greta made her way down the long carpet with her red cape draping behind her. She was wearing a stunning white gown, and her hair was up in an elegant, yet simple style. She approached the front of the room and stood on a raised platform, where Austin held her crown on a pillow. The crowning was about to begin, but before it could happen, Greta and Austin had an announcement to make: there wasn't really any money for an Orphanage! It appears that there had been a mistake and in the outcome, no money could be able to be used for an Orphanage. Greta was crushed, because the only reason that she had gone through everything to become crowned Princess was so she could build an Orphanage with Austin. So due to this, she and Austin asked that everyone at the event donate money for the children, so that they would be able to still continue with their original plans to build an Orphanage. Everyone in attendance agreed, and within minutes, they reached their quota of one million dollars! With that out of the way, the crowning could continue. |

Everyone stood huddled around, watching Greta's beauty in awe. Marlena and John stood together with smiles across their faces. Bo and Hope were deliriously in love, but had left the ball early. Vincent stood in the crowd with an evil smirk on his face, knowing about the murders that were about to occur. Sami stood at the back of the room, waiting for the moment of crowning so that she could get the tape from Angela and Brandon, who were standing together nervously. About that time, Kate came stumbling back inside, realizing that the crowning and murders were about to take place! She quickly rushed to Vincent's side one last time and begged him to call off the hit. Too late. The trumpets sounded and the crown was placed on Greta's head as she smiled with happiness.

The Bloodbath
"By the perking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes," Stefano DiMera spoke to his daughter Lexie. He felt evil in the air.
Suddenly, from the back of the room, Charles aimed his gun and shot!
POW! POW! He shot Greta twice! In fear, Austin hurled his body over top of hers for protection.

Everyone at the Coronation dropped to the floor in fear as they heard the shots. The next guns to go off were the hitmen that Kate and Vincent had hired. One man was stalled away in an air vent, and other men had machine guns rampaging the event. |
POW! Bullets flew across the room, riddling everyone they came in contact with!
Suddenly, Victor was shot! He was shot right in the front of his body as blood gushed from his wound and Kate stared in horror with her hand clasping her mouth! His mistress Nicole Walker rushed to his side as the bullets continued.
But there was a problem! For some reason, the hitmen were killing other people than only Victor! They were going insane and shooting EVERYONE!
One man was completely riddled with bullets.
Mimi was shot as Shawn laid his body protectively over hers.
Belle was screaming in the back with a group of children.
Stefano and Lexie were brought down in a huge pile of people, hovering and covering for their lives.
John picked up an object from a table and tried to hurl it at one of the shooters but one of their bullets caught him in the chest instead! He was shot too as he fell backwards onto the floor with blood gushing!
The hitmen continued to laugh as everyone screamed and shouted, wondering when the insanity would be over.

Angela and Brandon stared at the madness with fear as she noticed a hitman aiming a gun at Brandon! To protect him, she pushed her body in front of his and got shot in the back! She took a bullet for him as blood rushed from her body. Sami saw this from across the room and rushed around, wondering where the tape was! But she tripped and collapsed to the floor. |

Suddenly, Marlena was splattered with blood on her face as she laid in a pile of wounded people as the bullets continued to shine in the air!
"BELLE!" Marlena screamed, looking for her daughter, "BELLE!"
One final shot and the hitmen rushed away.

Greta was shot. Mimi was shot. Victor was shot. John was shot. Angela was shot. So many people were shot, injured and dead. |

Moments passed and everyone waited for safety before finally lifting from the floor to find their loved ones. Greta laid at the front of the Coronation with tears streaming down her face as blood dripped down her beautiful white gown. |

John was shot as well, as he tried to nurse his injury on his own, by remembering his past as a war veteran. |
Victor was shot as well, as Nicole cried over his seemingly lifeless body. Mimi was passed out on the floor with a bullet wound.

And Angela was shot too, as she laid in Brandon's arms crying. She was so happy to be married to him, and looked forward to a bright future with lots and lots of children. But that was cut short because she was shot. With her final words, her eyes closed as her body fell limp in Brandon's arms. Vincent, Kate and Sami watched as they hovered over the scene. As soon as Angela met her final breath, their arguments about the tape began again. |

"Give me the tape!" Sami spouted.
What would happen?
The Aftermath of the Coronation
Greta, Mimi and John manage to survive their
injuries. Greta almost died as she lost so much blood. However, her
life was saved as Sami's blood type was a positive match and donated
some to her. Greta lived thanks to Sami. Greta opened the Orphanage
with the help of Austin. Mimi was placed in the hospital to recover
from her injuries. Thankfully, she survived. John was hospitalized as
well as his health waivered. However, with the strength from his wife
Marlena, his daughter Belle and his son Brady, he survived the
trauma.
Marlena and Belle keep vigil at John's bedside but Brady is anxious when he hears the news of his father's shooting. Brady arrives in Paris to visit John, but is confronted by Marlena, who tells Brady that he does not want him to cause any trouble since John's condition is delicate. Brady and Marlena get into a verbal argument and after Brady taunts Marlena, calling her a tramp, she snaps and slaps him hard across the face. Brady tells John that Marlena hit him and John is furious. In a fit of rage, John starts coughing up blood. Despite this setback, John's health returns to normal, but there are still rough seas ahead for him, Marlena and Brady.
Sami is now on cloud nine since she has the tape and can use it as ammunition against Kate and Lucas to get custody of Will. Sami confronts Austin and tells him the truth about Kate. Austin is furious with his mother for nasty deceptions and wants nothing more to do with her. Sami then realizes that she has the same blood type as Greta and donates blood to save her life. Nicole confronts the Salemites at the hospital and tells them all that Victor has died! Kate and Lucas are ecstatic since they now have the money to get themselves out of legal trouble, although Kate feigns grief in front of Phillip. Phillip presents his mother with Victor's ashes, but Kate is upset with him because she wanted to see Victor's body one more time. Chloe begins to suspect that Phillip is hiding something and it is obvious that he is still in cahoots with Nicole. Back in Salem, Sami confronts Kate and Lucas with the tape and Sami is finally awarded custody of Will after Kate and Lucas reluctantly cave in. Kate and Lucas meet with lawyer Gene Briscoe to sort out the details of her inheritance.
Gene is secretly working for Victor, who is still very much alive and well. He wore a bullet proof vest at the coronation and staged his own death. Victor bides his time and allows Kate to be seduced into a false sense of security but he and Nicole soon bring Kate down. His death wasn't sad news for Kate, who was really thrilled when all was said and done. With Victor's death, she could have all of his money and power! But it wasn't quite as simple as that. While sleeping in the mansion one night, Victor appeared to her as a ghostly vision. It was revealed that Victor had only faked his death! He was actually alive! Kate was horrified at the truth of him faking his death, so she tried to have him killed again by setting the mansion on fire. However, Victor survived the fire as well and left Kate out in the cold. He stripped her of her fortune and left her living in the maid's car. Victor had a new mansion built for him and his new love Nicole.
Soon after Sami wins custody of Will, she concentrates her efforts on getting her romance with Austin back on track, but Greta vows to protect Austin from Sami's seduction....
Jack and Jennifer eventually reunited somewhat when they bought a house to live in together with their beautiful young daughter Abby.
