Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Horton, Jr.

Dr. Tommy HortonTommy Horton is the eldest son of Tom and Alice Horton, and was Addie Horton's twin brother. He is also the brother of Mickey, Bill, and Marie Horton. He is the father of Dr. Sandy Horton, and the ex-husband of Kitty Horton. Tom and Alice had thought that their beloved son Tommy was dead. He had married his sweetheart Kitty before going to the Korean War, from which he had never returned, leaving his wife Kitty to care for their daughter Sandy. The U.S. army had reported Tommy as MIA.

In 1967, Bill Horton met Dr. Mark Brooks, who was taking care of his friend Mary McCall. After Mary died, Bill invited Mark to come to Salem with. He did, and Mark got a position at University Hospital. Soon, he fell in love with his research assistant, Marie Horton. Meanwhile, he also met with the Hortons, and found their home to be quite familiar. He knew where certain things were located. At the same time, Mark was also having nightmares about a certain Colonel Chengsu who was torturing him in a cell. Tommy had a secret; he couldn't remember his past. But this didn't stop him from becoming engaged to Marie.

Tommy recalls being a POWAt the same time, the Hortons had come to suspect that Mark was in reality Tommy Horton. Mickey secretly took Mark's fingerprints, and was astonished to find that they matched Tommy's. Eventually, Tommy remembered what had happened to him. He had been a POW in Korea in 1956, where he was horribly beaten by his captors; he had managed to escape his captor, Colonel Chengsu, when he saved the life of a Soviet soldier, Colonel Dubovic. Dubovic had taken Tommy back to the Soviet Union, and had given him plastic surgery as his reward. Naturally, Tommy and Marie broke up. Tommy now had to deal with his wife, Kitty, and meet his teenage daughter, Sandy.

Tommy and Kitty celebrate their reunionHis relationship with Sandy blossomed, and they became very close. However, his relationship with Kitty was less than rosy. At first, Tommy tried to make his relationship with Kitty work. However, Kitty had changed. She was manipulative, and definitely hiding a secret. Tommy hired a private detective to follow Kitty, and discovered that she was having an affair with Dr. Elliot Kincaid. When Tommy confronted Kitty, in front of Elliot's apartment, she faked having a heart attack. Eventually, Tommy learned that Kitty had been involved in several relationships outside of Salem, and even had a criminal record! This was the last straw, and he divorced Kitty in 1969. After this, Tommy didn't become involved in any serious relationships. In 1972, in one of the most infamous scenes in daytime history, Tommy went upstairs to his bedroom...and didn't come back down until 1975!

However, he was still without a good story, only around to perform emergency operations, and save his father Tom from a heart attack. Finally, in 1977, he began dating Linda Phillips, and the two became quite intimate. In fact, as the year came to a close, Tommy proposed to her. Unfortunately for Tommy, Linda was just using him so that wealthy Bob Anderson would propose to her. She asked for time to think about the proposal, when in reality she wanted time to get Bob to propose to her! It worked. Linda accepted Bob's proposal, and Tommy was left heartbroken.

In 1980, he said good-bye to Salem. In 1982, it was mentioned that he was living in Hawaii, where he remains to this day.
