Sami
Brady is the daughter of Roman and Marlena Brady. She is the twin
sister of Eric Brady. She is the half-sister of Carrie Brady,
Isabella Brady, and D.J. Craig; the latter passed away before Sami's
birth. Sami is also the mother of William Reed and the ex-wife of
Austin Reed. Sami originally loved her sister Carrie and her mother
Marlena very much. However, certain circumstances led Sami to turn
her back against them, and evolve into manipulative vamp.
Samantha Gene Brady was born on October 19, 1984. She was named after Marlena's deceased sister, Samantha Evans, and Marlena's best friend, Eugene Bradford. A few months after her birth, she and her twin Eric were kidnapped by Stefano DiMera. He was exacting revenge on the Bradys for causing his own daughter Megan's death. He planned to raise Sami and Eric and turn them into DiMeras. Fortunately, Bo Brady prevented this. Sami and Eric grew up thinking that John Black was their father, Roman Brady. Their mother Marlena had died when they were still infants. In 1991, this changed when Marlena and the real Roman Brady resurfaced. Although apprehensive at first, Sami and Eric accepted their new father and welcomed their mother; however, they also liked their "uncle John". In 1992, when they were still no more than 9 years old, Sami and Eric were sent to their grandparents' home in Boulder, Colorado after their mother went missing.
In
January of 1993, someone skulked around Salem, watching the Bradys.
When an intruder tried to get into the Brady home, Roman pulled out a
gun and threatened to shoot; it was Sami. She had run away from her
school in Colorado and come back to Salem. What was more surprising
was that she was now 15 years old! When asked why she had returned,
Sami explained that she'd become homesick. Marlena and Roman decided
to let her stay. Soon after settling in Salem, Sami became infatuated
with a piano player at Wings, Austin Reed. However, she was unaware
that he was her sister Carrie's boyfriend. When she found out, she
was mortified. Yet, she was determined to make him fall in love with
her.
At
a Titan Publishing party in February, Sami discovered something that
would tear her family apart. Straying away from the party at the
Penthouse Grill, Sami went down to the Titan Offices and witnessed
John and Marlena make love on the table in the conference room. She
was upset with her mother, and feared for her father's feelings if he
ever found out. A troubled Sami kept what she saw a secret. Although
she began to lose respect for Marlena, she did not tell her that she
saw her affair with John. But it would continue to haunt her, as
Marlena found out two months later that she was pregnant. Desperate
to tell someone her predicament, Sami confided in her best friend,
Jamie Caldwell.
To forget about her troubles regarding her unborn sibling, Sami focused on making Austin fall in love with her. She tried to get close to him by asking him to give her piano lessons. Austin, being the nice guy that he was, agreed to it. Sami was disappointed when that scheme didn't lead anywhere. Her plans picked up steam when she met newcomer Lucas Roberts. Lucas desperately wanted Carrie's affections, and the two teamed together to break them up. Sami and Lucas pretended to be dating in order to make Austin and Carrie jealous. However, that plan also failed and they "stopped dating."
Meanwhile, Marlena and Roman had blood tests done on the unborn child. Sami became aware of this, and panicked. If that baby was John's, Roman would be devastated; Sami wanted to spare her father the pain. Since Sami was a candy-striper at University Hospital, she decided to find out for sure who the father was. She studied hematology texts, and even sought a doctor's advice on how to interpret blood samples. With this knowledge, Sami discovered that the baby was John's. She went ahead and altered the samples so that they would reveal Roman as the father.
At the same time, Sami and Lucas came up with the perfect plan to drive a wedge between Austin and Carrie. Carrie was somewhat disfigured at the time, as months earlier she had suffered burns on her face as a result of acid being thrown at her. The scars on her face caused Carrie to be very insecure about herself and her relationship with Austin; she feared Austin would stop loving her. She had driven Austin away, but Austin still believed that Carrie loved him. Lucas hired a Bella model, Brandee, to seduce Austin. Sami was very excited about this plan, despite Jamie's concerns. Curious to know how she kept such a fine figure, Sami and Jamie discovered that Brandee was bulimic. Shortly thereafter, Sami also began bingeing and purging thinking that Austin would love her if she had a better figure. Meanwhile, the Brandee plan worked. Carrie saw Austin and Brandee kissing. Carrie and Austin temporarily broke up, and Lucas was conveniently there to comfort Carrie. Meanwhile, Sami increased the quality time she spent with Austin.
By December, Sami began to feel the pangs of guilt. She hated what she and Lucas had done to Carrie. Meanwhile, their scheme unraveled by itself. Brandee was fired from Bella and sought revenge against Lucas, for he had promised her a lifetime job. She burst into the Brady Pub and told Carrie and Austin what she'd been hired to do and by whom. Sami backed up Brandee's story, and Lucas was made out to seem like the bad guy.
Sami's
bulimia continued to get worse. Even though she no longer was after
Austin, she strove to get a perfect body. In addition to the constant
vomiting, Sami also worked out constantly at The Titan Spa to the
point of exhaustion. Soon after Marlena gave birth to baby Belle,
Marlena noticed something was wrong with Sami. However, Sami would
not tell Marlena; in addition, she became extremely hostile toward
her mother. A short time after Belle was brought home from the
hospital, the doctors asked to do another set of blood tests on her.
Sami panicked. The night before the blood samples could be taken,
Belle was kidnapped from her crib. Someone had climbed through the
window using a ladder and taken her. Unbeknownst to everyone, Sami
had kidnapped her own little sister.
Sami
kept Belle hidden in Jamie Caldwell's house; the Caldwells had an
apartment above the garage they did not use. Meanwhile, Sami planned
to get rid of Belle. She absolutely refused to let Roman be hurt by
the truth of Belle's parentage. Posing as Nancy White, Sami met with
a crooked lawyer named Steven Miller. He was a middleman in the black
baby market. Sami went to him to sell Belle. After Steven found a
couple who wanted to buy a child, Sami began to feel guilty. Yet, she
decided to go through with it. The night she went Chez Vous to meet
with Steven Miller and Belle's prospective parents, she was shocked
to see John and Kristen there! They had posed as the couple to find
Belle. Able to sneak out of the restaurant before she was found out,
Sami quickly packed her things and went to the airport ready to board
a plane to Florida. But, John and Kristen got to her before the plane
could take off. After Roman was informed of his daughter's part in
kidnapping Belle, he made her attend sessions with Dr. Matt Dorman, a
psychiatrist at University Hospital.
Once
Belle was back at home, everything seemed to be normal. The doctors
no longer wanted to give Belle a blood test, so there was no danger.
But Sami was still angry at her mother. Marlena, who had caught on to
Sami's bulimia, finally confronted her. Sami told her that she was
there the night John and Marlena had slept together. She also told
her that Belle was John's baby; that's why she'd kidnapped her.
Marlena was devastated by this and tried to comfort Sami for having
to deal with such trauma by herself. But Sami refused to have
anything to do with her. Marlena pleaded with Sami not to tell Roman
and she agreed; but not because she'd asked her to, but because she
did not want to hurt her father.
The day of Belle's Christening, all hell broke loose. In front of the entire congregation, Marlena tearfully confessed that she'd had an affair with John. Later, Stefano DiMera came to the Brady home. He showed a disbelieving Roman photocopies of Sami's diary pages, in which she wrote about John being the real father of Belle (Stefano had stolen her diary from her locker at the hospital after overhearing a conversation between Jamie and Sami.) Roman asked Sami if what the diary said was true and she nervously admitted it. Marlena then left the house, to Sami's joy.
During
this time, Alan Harris, who had briefly dated Carrie, surprised Sami
by asking her out. She eagerly accepted. "I can't believe it! A guy
just asked me out...a CUTE college guy," she said to herself. She was
not aware that Alan had tried to rape her sister Carrie just a few
days prior. Her dreams were dashed when Marlena refused to allow her
to see Alan. Alan was 21, and Sami only 15; although Roman was angry
with Marlena, he agreed that he was much too old for her. She
secretly continued to see Alan over the next three months. He would
take her to frat parties and get her drunk. Sami didn't know that
Alan was bad news.
On May 29, the inevitable happened. Alan asked Sami to come to his apartment and cook him dinner, which she gladly did. After dinner, Alan took out his camera and asked Sami to let him take sexy pictures of her. At first, she agreed and innocently played along. But when he asked her to take off her clothes, she refused to. Alan then pinned her to the couch and raped her. As an upset Sami was leaving his apartment, he taunted her saying she liked it. Sami was ashamed and disgusted with herself and sought Jamie's help. She advised her to press charges, but Sami couldn't do it. She did, however, get tested for a pregnancy and AIDS; they both came back negative.
Sami tried to get Alan to turn himself in, but he refused. She eventually told Lucas, Carrie, and Austin about the rape. They told her that it was much too late to press charges against Alan because they had no evidence. Carrie decided to wear a wire and extract a confession from Alan. Carrie soon became missing. Although the police checked out Alan's apartment, Carrie was nowhere to be found. Sami figured out that Carrie was at his apartment and went to rescue her. The botched up rescue attempt resulted in both Brady girls being tied to a chair by Alan. He planned to leave Salem with them. Sami tried to seduce Alan in order to escape, but she only succeeded in making Alan angrier. He'd had enough of her and grabbed a knife, ready to kill her. Fortunately, Austin and Lucas burst into the apartment and saved the day.
Although Sami didn't want to, Pat Hamilton, Carrie, and Marlena convinced her to press rape charges against Alan along with kidnapping. However, there was no evidence that Alan had raped Sami; she had not gone to the hospital or the police immediately after the rape. Pat Hamilton, who confessed that she had been a rape victim once, warned Sami that it would be a tough battle. Yet, Carrie and Lucas discovered that Alan had raped another girl, Elaine Parker, while attending Fairfield Military Academy. Carrie found Elaine, now married and going by the name Elaine Parker-Marshall, and begged her to testify at Sami's rape hearing. But at the hearing, Elaine said that when she had dated Alan he'd been "a perfect gentleman" (Alan had made threats against Elaine, whose husband was a minister.) The case was dismissed, and Sami became angry at Carrie for giving her the false hope of victory. However, Carrie continued to encourage Sami and said that Alan wouldn't be able to weasel his way out of the kidnapping charges.
Unfortunately, he did. At the kidnapping hearing, Alan's lawyer badgered Carrie to the point that she made Sami sound like a liar. A mistrial was declared as a result of a dead-locked jury. Furthermore, the tabloid The Intruder published all the details about the hearing and called Sami a liar, humiliating her. All her friends at school stayed away from her, and no guys would ask her out; they teased her saying that she might accuse them of rape. Sami blamed Carrie for all of this and slapped her. She also blamed Marlena, who had begun to rebuild their relationship together. She was determined to get revenge on both of them.
Things got a little better for Sami and Marlena after Sami's 17th birthday. Marlena gave her a diamond pendant she'd always admired since childhood. Sami was touched. However, Sami sought revenge against Carrie. She devoted herself to win Austin away from her once again. She was jealous that Carrie had him to comfort her, while Sami had no one (yeah, right.) In the beginning, Sami asked for Lucas' help in her mission but he wanted no part in it. Thus, Sami worked alone, using her rape as bait. She continuously begged Austin to spend time with her because she was scared of Alan. Nicely enough, Austin was there for Sami every time he wanted to spend time with Carrie. Lucas saw how this was working and decided to join forces with Sami.
On one particular occasion, Lucas lured Carrie to lunch with him. At the Shawn & Caroline's house, where Sami was staying, Sami told Jamie to go out for pizza. Sami proceeded to wear black clothes and a ski mask, knowing that Jamie would see her from the street. Jamie called Austin, and when he arrived to rescue Sami from her attacker, she sat in a corner with her shirt torn and looking rather upset. This plan worked, and Austin began to spend more time with Sami. Meanwhile, Lucas called it quits with Sami. He couldn't believe the disgusting lengths she'd go to to break up Austin and Carrie.
For
a few months, Sami's plan worked. Every time Austin and Carrie would
try to spend time together, Sami would call Austin acting upset.
Carrie began to suspect Sami of crying wolf, and so did Alan. Her
plan would come back to haunt her. In mid-January 1995, Sami called
Austin from the docks wanting him to come see her. But Carrie
answered the phone and never gave Austin the message (he was out
buying wine for a romantic dinner with Carrie). Instead, Alan showed
up at the pier brandishing a gun, with the intention of raping Sami
once again. He knew that Austin wouldn't show, and he knew that Sami
had been crying wolf. Nevertheless, Sami was not about to let herself
be raped again and successfully pried the gun away from Alan. As she
pointed it at him, he continued to move towards her, convinced that
she didn't have the guts to pull the trigger. Too bad for Alan. Sami,
cornered at the end of the pier, shot Alan in the groin! Although
this seemed like a heroic way to fight back, Sami was crucified by
The Intruder, which published the headline "Sami Brady Bobbittizes
Alan Harris!" However, Alan got the last laugh. Before leaving Salem,
he told Carrie that Sami had been crying wolf the entire
time.
Carrie confronted Sami with this, but she denied it. Angry, Carrie slapped her! Unfortunately for Carrie, Austin walked into the room as she slapped Sami and became furious at her. Later, Austin broke up with her. Sami was delighted. Sami tried to seduce Austin by wearing a negligée, but Austin blew her off. Depressed, Sami went to the Cheatin' Heart. There, she was harassed by some drunks but was saved by Lucas, who had also gone there to drown his sorrows. Together, they went back to the Countess Wilhelmina offices and slept together. While they were having sex, Austin peeked in and saw Carrie's shirt on a chair (Sami had been wearing it), and wrongly deduced that Carrie and Lucas were sleeping together. When Lucas told Sami that Austin saw them, Sami was overjoyed. Lucas wanted to tell Austin the truth, but Sami threatened to press charges of statutory rape against him if he did.
Sami was determined to get Austin into bed with her. While helping rebuild St. Luke's Church (which had been burned down), Sami had an interesting conversation with a nurse from University Hospital, Lynn Burke. Although Lynn mostly spoke of her dislike for Jonah Carver and Wendy Reardon, she also mentioned a friend of hers who had used the drug Validan to get a man to make love with her without remembering the next morning. This piqued Sami's interest, so she stole Lynn's key to the Pharmaceuticals room in the hospital and took a bottle of Validan. While Austin was out one night at the Cheatin' Heart with Jonah, Sami slipped the drug into Austin's beer. Then she waited for him at his apartment wearing a negligee and Carrie's perfume. A very out-of-it Austin arrived home and made love to Sami thinking that she was Carrie. Austin reacted with disgust the next morning and apologized to Sami, who had obviously enjoyed it. Sami told Austin that he had professed his love for her, but he said that wasn't true. He asked her to keep this a secret from Carrie.
After
this incident, Sami decided to seek advice from her ill mother.
Marlena was in the hospital fighting a case of anemia. Of course, she
was really by the devil. So it came as no surprise when MarDevil
goaded Sami into trying to sleep Austin again. Sami followed her
mother's advice, and Austin rejected her. He said that he only liked
her as a friend. Mortified, Sami decided to run away. After informing
Jamie of her plans, Sami caught a train bound to Los
Angeles.
Three
months passed with no sign of Sami. She was living on the streets of
Seattle, Washington with a friend named Ashley. Sami attempted to
return to Salem, but when she arrived she saw Austin and Carrie
kissing. Convinced that she had no life in Salem, she went back to
Seattle. There, she discovered that private investigator was
following her, and that Lucas had hired him. She decided leave
Seattle by stealing a car, but she crashed it and went to the
hospital. At the hospital, the doctors discovered something that Sami
apparently pretty happy to hear. While recuperating, the owner of the
car decided to press charges and Sami was arrested. With Ashley's
help, Sami tried to escape the hospital inside a food cart, but was
caught and sent to jail. There, she was informed that John Penetta,
the owner of the vehicle, had decided to drop charges and that her
bail had been paid. Sami and Ashley met her mystery benefactor when
this person invited them to a scrumptious dinner at the finest hotel
in Seattle. It was Vivian Alamain. For some reason, she had arranged
for Sami to return to Salem in the morning. Devious Sami didn't want
to wait and got her ticket changed for that very night, to Vivian's
chagrin. After an emotional good-bye to Ashley, Sami flew home. She
arrived just in time to witness Carrie's bachelorette party through a
window. Jamie saw her and spoke with her, telling her that her entire
family had been worried about her. Sami, however, decided not to make
her appearance just yet; she wanted to ruin Carrie and Austin's
wedding.
The
next day, Sami watched the ceremony from the vestibule of the Church
waiting for the right moment. Unfortunately for her, Mickey Horton
found her and announced to everyone that she was home. Carrie was so
happy to have her sister back that she asked her to be the maid of
honor. Before that could happen, Sami "fainted". When she came to,
she began to frantically ask about her baby. In a separate room in
the church, Sami confessed to Carrie and Marlena that she and Austin
had slept together and now she was carrying his child. The wedding
was off, and Sami's mission was complete.
Sami tried to get Austin interested in her through her baby, unsuccessfully. So she manipulated Jamie into telling Austin that she was going to have an abortion. Sami went to the abortion clinic not really intending to get rid of the child. But the doctors there gave her some powerful drugs that knocked her out, so Sami was not awake to stop the abortion from taking place. Fortunately, Austin came rushing in and stopped the procedure.
At this time, nurse Lynn became a problem. Lynn had decided to find out who was the "slut" who had ruined Carrie's life. Afraid that Lynn would remember their conversation about Validan, Sami had Lucas hire Lynn to do a promotional shoot for medical utilities, and quickly sent her away to Chicago. With this threat out of the way, Sami focused on spending time with Austin. Her plans were almost ruined at "A Night of Magic", an event held at the Penthouse Grill. One of the persons in attendance was John Penetta. Sami convinced him to pretend not to know her. However, she heard him speak of a Sister Mary Vivian who looked exactly like Vivian Alamain. Sami figured out that Vivian hadn't just helped her in Seattle out of the goodness of her heart and blackmailed her into getting her a job at Titan. She used this job to keep an eye on Carrie and Austin. Sami and Lucas successfully kept the couple apart, for a while anyway.
Vivian
got sick of being blackmailed by a little girl, and decided to ruin
things for her. She arranged for Carrie and Austin to go to a
conference at their special place, the Green Mountain Ski Lodge.
Desperate to keep Austin and Carrie from making love, Sami stole
Lucas' BMW and raced to the lodge. But the weather was bad and Sami
wasn't a very good driver, so she crashed. She was unharmed. The
incident did nothing to break up Carrie and Austin. Sami was alone.
One night, Sami became very melancholy. She returned to the old Brady
home to seek comfort without telling anyone. She hoped Austin would
become worried and come looking for her. In her old bedroom, Sami
went into labor. However, she had no phone. Luckily, Austin and
Carrie found her in time to call an ambulance. At the hospital, Sami
suffered complications and had to have a caesarian. She gave birth to
a boy, who was eventually named William Robert Reed after Austin's
sister Billie and his late mother, Kate Roberts. Soon after his
birth, Will was discovered to have a heart irregularity and was kept
in an incubator for a week. Soon, both mother and child were fine and
returned home.
She convinced Austin to let her stay with him because her grandfather Shawn had the chicken pox, which would be harmful to Will. But still, Austin made time for Carrie. Sami used New Year's Eve as an opportunity to break up their relationship once and for all. She knew that Lucas was drunk and passed out in Carrie's apartment, so Sami slipped a tab of Validan into Carrie's champagne. After Carrie passed out, Sami placed her in bed with Lucas. They thought they'd slept together. After Austin found out about Carrie's infidelity, they completely broke up. Carrie began dating Lucas once again, and Sami was on her way to scheming her way into Austin's life.
Sami convinced Austin to let her move in with him. Now that he and Carrie had broken up, and Jonah was living with Wendy in a separate apartment, Austin had enough room for both Sami and their son. In January, Austin was shocked to find out that his mother, Kate Roberts, had not died at all. Kate had been living aboard a Spanish freighter and had made her way back to Salem. Austin and Sami presented Kate with her grandson, and Kate reluctantly welcomed Sami into the family. In reality, Kate felt that Austin could only love Carrie and tried to bring them closer together by making them work together. Sami knew what Kate was up to and resented her for this. In turn, Kate discovered that there was a connection between Sami and Vivian and began to spy on her. Indeed, there was something going on between the two. Vivian was blackmailing Sami into posting her bail (Vivian had been arrested for Kate's attempted murder.) However, Sami didn't have to do this since Kate went ahead and bailed Vivian out. Soon after, Kate arranged for Vivian and Sami to be alone together and overheard them talking about the way they had broken up Austin and Carrie. Kate confronted them and told them that she'd tell Austin & Carrie about their devious plans. But when the time came, Sami and Vivian covered up their prior connection with numerous lies that both Austin and Carrie bought. Austin apologized to Sami for the way Kate had treated her and promised to provide her with a good life. Sami lived a delusional life with Austin. She felt that Will was the bond that would bring them together. This wouldn't last, however.
In
May, a series of events began Sami's downfall. First, Kate began
hounding Jamie, knowing that Jamie knew the truth about Sami. Kate
had actually convinced Jamie to tell the truth, but Sami and Lucas
convinced her to keep her mouth shut. Though she thought she was in
the clear, Sami was now in a bigger mess. Nurse Lynn Burke returned
to Salem to tell Austin everything. While in Chicago, Lynn had
figured out that Sami had drugged Austin with Validan. She only
returned now because she was out of a job; Kate had terminated the
job Lynn had been doing in Chicago. Sami and Lucas struggled to keep
Lynn quiet and gave her $10,000 to do so. Lynn was happy with her
money...for a day. She quickly spent the dough at Salem Place in
clothes and jewelry, and continued to blackmail Sami & Lucas.
Lucas promised Lynn more money as soon as he turned 21 in July and
was able to access his trust fund. Lynn thought that was too long to
wait and decided to tell Kate all about Sami's actions. She figured
that Kate would pay her nicely for her information. However, Kate
lost her fortune right before Lynn told her (Victor had had a stroke
and Vivian was still Mrs. Kiriakis), so there was nothing Lynn could
get and stayed quiet. Sami & Lucas breathed easier for about two
seconds, because soon Kate recovered her fortune! Sami and Lucas
schemed to keep Lynn away from Kate by posting police guards outside
of Victor's hospital room, where Kate was devoted to stay. Lynn
outsmarted them by becoming Victor's personal nurse! One fateful
evening, Sami was blown out of the water. Lucas, Kate, Austin,
Carrie, and Sami assembled in the Kiriakis living room, where Kate
exposed Sami's lies. This time, she had proof. Lynn entered the room
and announced the way that Sami had drugged Austin with Validan. When
Sami tried to disprove Lynn, a guilty Jamie entered the room. She
backed up Lynn's story. There was no way that Austin and Carrie could
disbelieve the angelic Jamie. Austin viciously told Sami to move out
and to leave Carrie and him alone!
Sami
defiantly held her head up high and moved out of Austin's apartment.
Rather than return to her grandparents' house or live with Marlena,
Sami got her own apartment in a seedy building. Austin and pretty
much everyone else in Salem protested her move into such a bad
neighborhood, but this is exactly what Sami wanted. She hoped that by
putting herself and Will in a dangerous situation Austin would want
her back (sound familiar?) She staged various mishaps in her run-down
apartment, and Austin cluelessly went to her rescue. Austin remarked
several times that this place wasn't safe, and extremely disliked
Sami's neighbor, Mary Brook. She was an eccentric kook who lived with
dozens of cats and showed special interest in Will. Sami stressed
that Mary was her friend and a loving woman. Sami should've listened
to Austin, because Mary soon kidnapped baby Will.
Austin,
Carrie, and Sami were able to track Mary and Will to Paris, France.
After a series of dead-ends, they discovered that Mary had taken Will
to a hotel on the coast of Brittany. When they got there, Mary
avoided being spotted even though her room was right next to Carrie
& Austin's. When they finally found Mary, it was too late: she
had already sold Will to a French couple. After a tiresome search,
the couple, Gerard and Michelle Bernard, gave Will back to the
authorities. Despite this, all was not well. The French government
refused to give Will back to a single mother! For Will's sake, Austin
agreed to marry Sami in order to let the French think that Will would
have a loving home environment stabilized by two parents. Sami was
overjoyed at this but pretended to be doing it only for Will. They
were married in Carrie and Austin's hotel room using Abe &
Lexie's wedding bands. The entire event was captured on video to show
Judge DeBont that it was real. Despite the videotaped wedding, Judge
DeBont ordered two social service agents, Simone Berte and Claude
Beauchamp, to keep an eye on Sami and Austin to make sure they'd
married for love. In the meantime, Sami and Austin could not leave
France with Will. Another judge, Judge DuBois, considered making the
couple live in France for six months to make sure they loved each
other. Although Sami was willing to make that "sacrifice," the judge
ultimately chose to let Sami and Austin return to America.
As
soon as they returned to Salem, Austin filed for divorce just as Sami
was afraid he would. She tried to hang on to Austin by seducing him
at the Green Mountain Ski Lodge one weekend. But when Carrie walked
into the room and saw Sami trying to seduce Austin, she hit her! Sami
had Carrie arrested for assault and eventually attained a restraining
order against Carrie which forced Carrie to stay at least 100 feet
away from Sami and Will. Sami engineered all sorts of silly
situations to have Austin be with Will, and thus unable to be with
Carrie (because of the restraining order.) Then, Sami tried to move
into the Kiriakis mansion with Vivian's help. Unfortunately, their
plans failed. Soon, Kate began legal proceedings to have Vivian
kicked out of the house, and custody of Will given to Austin.
Desperate, Sami decided to blackmail Kate. She went to Kate's bedroom
and rummaged through her things until she finally found something
valuable inside the closet. In a white envelope, Sami discovered
scandalous information that would make Kate a very hated woman. With
this information, Sami convinced Kate to let her stay at the mansion
and give her a job at Titan.
For
months, Sami thought of ridiculous ways to use her position at Titan
and at the mansion to break up Austin and Carrie, to no avail. On New
Year's Eve, Sami discovered that Austin and Carrie were going away on
a romantic getaway and decided to crash it by stealing Austin's car
and going to their hotel. Instead of crashing the getaway, she
crashed the car. When Austin went to the impound lot to pick up his
car, Sami warned him that something had been wrong with the car and
that's why she'd crashed. Austin refused to listen and began to drive
away. However, the car unexpectedly went into reverse and backed into
Sami. Sami ended being hit against a wall and fell into a coma. For
an unbelievably long time, Sami did not recover. People rallied to
her side to bring her out. When she finally woke up, she had amnesia.
She believed that she was 16 years old. She began to remember the
past four years of her life when she saw her son Will. She also
remembered her wedding to Austin and believed they were happily
married. In the end, Sami was released from the hospital. She had
paralysis in her legs, but the doctors believed it to be temporary.
At this time, Sami was also heartbroken over the fact that her father
Roman died while on a mission for the ISA. Meanwhile, Sami moved in
with Austin. Unbeknownst to her, Austin was only playing the faithful
husband for fear that the truth would shock Sami back into a coma.
But speaking of shocks, that's exactly what cured Sami of her
amnesia. While ironing, the faulty iron electrocuted Sami and she
regained her memory and use of her legs.
However,
she kept this miracle a secret. Only Lucas recognized that Sami was
back to normal. He convinced her to keep quiet and feign amnesia so
that they could break up Carrie and Austin once and for all. This
time, the plan was to make Austin believe that Carrie was interested
in Mike Horton because the two had been rather chummy as of late.
Meanwhile, Kate discovered that Sami was faking her amnesia and
threatened to tell. Sami, however, once again held the blackmail
material over Kate's head. The envelope, which Kate had been unable
to find while Sami had been in a coma, had been hidden inside of
Sami's childhood doll, Molyanna. Sami once again used the blackmail
information to slither her way into the Kiriakis mansion. While
arguing with Kate one day, a photo fell from the blackmail envelope
onto the floor. Victor, who was in a wheelchair, saw the photo and
immediately had a stroke which left him comatose. The photo had been
of Kate - she had been a prostitute sometime in her past.
Nevertheless, Sami kept quiet about Kate's past in order to continue to blackmail her. Things were going fine, also, with the plan to make Austin believe Carrie and Mike were falling in love. But Sami received a horrifying shock one day when she discovered a mistake in Will's medical records. Upon further investigation, she realized that Will was not Austin's son...he was Lucas'! Sami tried to alter Will's medical file in order to cover up this information but was unable to do so. However, no one suspected the truth. Meanwhile, Roman turned up in Salem - he wasn't dead at all! However, he was dying of a synthetic virus he'd been infected with on a mission in the Middle East. Sami convinced her father that she and Austin were very much in love and engaged to be married; she also told him that Carrie and Mike were gushing with romance. Since Roman's condition was so delicate, no one could risk shocking Roman with the truth, so everyone played along with Sami's lie. By now, Austin was the only one who still believed Sami had amnesia; everyone else suspected otherwise. Even Eric, recently returned from Colorado, sensed that Sami was lying about one thing and covering up something else. At this time, Kate tried to tell Austin everything about Sami, but she pulled out another trump card from the blackmail envelope: proof that Kate had brought Franco Kelly to Salem to break up Bo and Hope Brady. Kate remained quiet for fear Austin and Billie would hate her as a result of her machinations.
Sami
and Lucas' plan finally worked. Austin, believing that Carrie and
Mike were in love, decided to propose to Sami and have a family. Sami
joyously accepted and began wedding preparations. However, the
wedding was halted by Carrie. She and Eric had discovered that Lucas
was Will's father, not Austin, and that Sami had recently tried to
cover it up...proving that she'd faked the amnesia. In front of the
entire church, Carrie punched Sami and Sami was kicked out. Later
that day, Carrie and Austin tied the knot in a shotgun wedding with
all the trimmings, while Sami stood outside a window and tearfully
watched the entire event.
Still, Sami hoped to get Austin back and decided to sabotage the honeymoon. After getting a job as Mike's personal assistant, Sami discovered that the honeymoon was in Rome. Knowing that there was a medical conference in Rome, Sami made arrangements for Mike to go; secretly, she also booked a flight and a room for herself. Once in Rome, Sami skulked in the background disguised as a nun. At one point, Franco, who was also in Rome on a photo shoot, ran into Sami and recognized her. To keep him from telling anyone about her presence, Sami threatened to tell Bo and Hope that Kate had hired him to break them up. Holding that over his head, Sami also forced Franco to help her sabotage Mike's relationship with fellow doctor Debra Thomas so that he wouldn't forget his feelings for Carrie.
Once
back in Salem, Sami began trying to make Austin jealous using Franco.
In the process, however, Sami slowly began falling for him. Although
she still wanted revenge against Carrie, Sami started to forget about
her original plan and started spending a lot of time with Franco.
While working on a publicity campaign for Bella Magazine called "New
Faces", she fell in love with him and they wound up sleeping
together. Meanwhile, Sami used Eric as her photographer and launched
a friend of his, Nicole Walker, as the star model of the
campaign.
Lucas, who knew that Sami was blackmailing his mother but didn't know with what information, became more embittered toward her. To get him out of the way, Sami tried to convince everyone that Lucas was an alcoholic and an unfit father. Thus began a battle between them in which one tried to destroy the other...but neither succeeded. Meanwhile, Franco proposed marriage to Sami and she accepted. While he wanted a quick marriage, she wanted a large vent. Sami was oblivious to the fact that Franco, who had been seducing her all of these months, merely wanted to marry her to obtain a green card.
By this point, Lucas' drinking problem had become a reality. One day, Sami witnessed Lucas accidentally drop Will while playing with him. Claiming that Lucas was drunk, Sami took Will to the hospital and claimed that Lucas had hit Will. After filing child abuse charges against Lucas, Sami sought full custody of the child. Although the abuse charges were eventually dropped, Sami did receive full custody. Sami used this entire matter in order to split up Carrie and Austin, and it worked. While Austin firmly believed in Sami, Carrie maintained that Sami had lied about Lucas.
