Melissa
Anderson is the natural daughter of Jim and Linda Phillips, the the
adoptive daughter of Bob Anderson and sister of Mary Anderson. Later
on, she was adopted for by Mickey
and Maggie
Horton. Melissa is the ex-wife of Pete Jannings. Currently, she is
married to an unknown man and has at least one child with him. For
most of her tenure in Salem, Melissa was plagued with a messy love
life, learning and maturing with every mistake she made along the
way.
In
November of 1971, Melissa was born in Salem to Linda Patterson, who
was secretary to Mickey Horton. Linda, who'd had an affair with
Mickey, tried to pass Melissa off as his daughter in order to keep
him from reuniting with his then-wife Laura Horton. It was eventually
revealed that Melissa's father was actually Linda's estranged
boyfriend, Jim Phillips. After Linda married Jim, the three of them
moved to Boston. In 1975, Jim Phillips died of a heart attack. Linda
returned to Salem with Melissa and tried to use her in order to win
back Mickey Horton. When it didn't work, Linda returned Melissa to
her grandfather Cliff in Boston. In 1978, a young Melissa was brought
back to Salem by Linda following her engagement to the wealthy Bob
Anderson. Bob, who was endeared by Melissa and smitten with Linda,
proceeded to adopt Melissa. Though everything seemed right for some
time, especially after Linda announced that she was pregnant.
However, Melissa accidentally overheard Linda and Neil Curtis
discussing her fake pregnancy -- it was only a ploy to stay married
to Bob. Heartbroken, Melissa told Mary, who in turn told Bob.
Following this discovery, Bob disinherited Linda and began divorce
proceedings. Linda harshly blamed Melissa for the divorce and called
her ungrateful, claiming that everything she'd done had been to
provide a better life for her. The divorce took a toll on Melissa
because she loved Bob as a father. Bob loved Melissa as well, and
made sure that one of the conditions of the divorce was that Melissa
would continue to live with him. Overjoyed at first, Melissa soon
changed her mind. As she was saying good-bye to her mother, who was
to leave Salem, Melissa realized that she couldn't live without her
mother and decided to leave Salem with her. After leaving Bob a
letter telling him that she would always love him, Melissa left Salem
with Linda. However, as soon as they left Salem, Linda dropped
Melissa off in a Boston boarding school and left to live her own life
in New York.
In
1982, Melissa ran away from boarding school and returned to Salem
upon receiving news that her sister Mary had died. In her will, Mary
left Melissa half of Anderson Manufacturing, the business that had
made the Anderson family wealthy. After Linda unsuccessfully tried to
gain control of Melissa's shares of Anderson, she left Melissa in the
care of Mickey and Maggie Horton and left Salem. Melissa soon began
dating Oliver Martin, a thief she'd met while on the run. Melissa was
attracted to Oliver but was weary of his unusual activities. He had a
theft record and prior involvement with drugs. Eventually, Melissa
came to trust Oliver and that the fact that he had changed his ways.
However, his troubled family's past and his shady friends were a
constant obstacle in the relationship. Meanwhile, Alex Marshall
pursued to buy her shares of Anderson; Mickey's advice was to not
sell them, so she didn't.
In
1983, Melissa broke up with Oliver when he seemed to lose interest in
her. After a year of living with the Hortons and actually being cared
for (something Linda didn't exactly do), Melissa proclaimed Mickey
and Maggie to be her Mom and Dad. Following this, Mickey legally
adopted Melissa. By this time however, Mickey and Maggie were
divorced. Melissa sided with Mickey and took great offense to Maggie
dating Don Craig because she wanted her parents to get back together.
And she especially took offense to Don, who seemed to have dated just
about every woman in Salem. It took a very long time, but Melissa
finally came to terms with Don and Maggie's relationship. In the
meantime, she took dance classes and worked part-time at
Shenanigans.
It was here at Shenanigans where Melissa's life took at turning point. One November night, she stumbled upon Pete Jannings, a gang member wanted by the police, stealing canned goods from the pantry. Fearing he'd be caught, Pete kidnapped Melissa and drove out of town. Pete had acted out of desperation, not to actually harm Melissa. After getting caught in a snowstorm, Melissa told Pete to stop at her mom's farmhouse which was nearby. While stuck in the farm, Pete opened up to Melissa about his past and the reasons he'd joined the Vipers. At the same time, Melissa told Pete about her troubled childhood. The two found that they had a lot in common and connected that night. Unfortunately, Melissa remained scared. The police had found them but were afraid to come in because Pete might hurt her. When she got the chance, Melissa knocked Pete over the head with some firewood. The police then came in and arrested Pete.
Melissa defended Pete to the police and to Mickey, telling them that he never would've harmed her. Fortunately, he avoided jail and was released into Chris Kositchek's custody. Now that he lived with Chris, Pete was given a job at Shenanigans and had constant contact with Melissa. Even though they wanted to begin seeing each other, Mickey and Maggie were completely against Melissa even talking to Pete. So they saw each other in secret, which came to be a big problem because the Vipers were against Pete "wasting" his time around Melissa. They wanted Pete to become more active in the gang and leave the straight life he was now leading. Meanwhile, Mickey discovered that Melissa was dating Pete and tried to put a stop to it simply because they thought he was a dangerous hood. Melissa saw Pete anyway. Meanwhile, Melissa's dancing career got a big boost when she was invited to participate in the nationally-televised hospital benefit concert at Salem Concert Hall. Her routine was part of "Swan Lake", conducted by a very impressed Stefano DiMera in disguise.
The pressure that the Vipers placed on Pete got greater until Pete had no choice but to rejoin the gang and participate in a fight against a rival gang. Melissa was scared for him and wanted him to leave the Vipers, but he couldn't. Fearing for his life, Melissa went to Mickey and begged him to stop a gang fight that was about to happen. Mickey went ahead with Melissa's wish but when he showed up at the alley where the fight was occurring, he was accidentally shot in the stomach by Pete. Although Mickey survived the attack, he made Melissa promise at the hospital that she would stop dating Pete for good; otherwise, he'd tell the police that Pete had shot him. Melissa reluctantly agreed.
However,
Melissa wanted to continue seeing Pete in secret. In an effort to
keep the promise with Mickey, Pete pushed Melissa away. Thinking that
the relationship was over, Melissa delved into her dancing and began
seeing other guys. During this time, Eugene tried to help Melissa out
with her love life, or lack thereof, by presenting Rick Paige to her.
Rick was a nice enough kid, but Melissa could only think of Pete.
After weeks of avoiding Pete, they finally accepted that they
couldn't stay away from each other and declared their love for one
another once again (a pattern that would repeat itself again and
again.) Melissa and Pete believed more and more that they belonged
with each other and began making plans to run away together so that
they could live a happy life together. Unfortunately, they needed
money to do that so it would be a while before they could both earn
enough. Needing the money, Melissa at last decided to sell her half
of Anderson Manufacturing to Alex. The company's profits were
negative anyway. Even though the sale of shares resulted in a great
deal of money, Mickey, who handled the sale, placed it in a trust
fund that Melissa unfortunately could not access. Pete, however,
promised Melissa that they'd have enough money soon since he had
gotten a second job. When Melissa asked him what job that was, he
told her he was a waiter but refused to tell her where.
Meanwhile, Melissa was shocked when her mother returned to Salem. Linda apologized for her past behavior and promised that she had changed her ways. Still harboring resentment against her mother, Melissa told her mother exactly how hurt she had been by her behavior, but wanted to give her a chance. After a couple of superficial visits, Melissa finally realized why her mother had returned and that she hadn't changed at all: she wanted her half of Anderson! When Melissa told Linda that she'd gotten rid of her shares, Linda flew into a rage. Meanwhile, Melissa was offered the chance to perform in a national dance troupe financed by the Hathaway Bank. For her first dance recital, she asked Daphne DiMera to let her use a necklace with a large crystal pendant. But on the night of her performance, two thugs attacked her trying to steal the necklace. Luckily, Pete rescued her. Unbeknownst to her, Melissa was in possession of a valuable Prism that many people were looking for. She eventually gave it back to Daphne.
During this time, a male strip joint called "Beefcakes" began soaring in popularity which was mainly due to their star attraction, a masked man. Posters of this masked stripper were handed out all over Salem, including Shenanigans. One day, Melissa's friends decided to go see this guy and persuaded Melissa to get a fake I.D. in order to go to Beefcakes. When they went to see the masked man take his clothes off, Melissa was so disgusted with the place that she left. Meanwhile, Pete's job seemed to be working out very well because he soon bought a hot red sports car. But when he took Melissa out for a joyride, he drove recklessly and crashed against a tree. To make matters worse, the car turned out to be truly hot -- as in stolen property. Mortified, Melissa blew up at Pete as he was being arrested because she felt that he had thrown away their relationship. However, Pete was able to prove that he hadn't known about the car being stolen. Melissa forgave him. Soon after this, on Halloween, Melissa and her friends decided to go back to Beefcakes to see the masked man again, even though she felt embarrassed going there. Melissa cheered the guy on... until the last part of his act when he took off the mask. It was Pete! Horrified, Melissa left the club. Later on at a party, she angrily broke up with him. But in the days after this, Melissa began to change her mind and decided to forgive him. While searching for Pete, Melissa received a call telling him where he was. But when she reached his room, what Melissa found was Pete asleep in his bed...and her mother next to him! That was truly the last straw. The next time that Pete saw her, Melissa berated him for sleeping with his mother. However, Pete hadn't slept with anyone; he had been drunk and Linda had set it up to look like they'd slept together. Furthermore, he had never met Linda! The night that Melissa supposedly found him in bed with her he had been in the company of Madame X, the owner of Beefcakes. Meanwhile, Melissa also confronted her mother, accusing her of having slept with Pete to get back at her for selling her shares of Anderson. But Linda simply denied everything, and even created an alibi for that night with Alex Marshall. Since both Pete and Linda swore that such a thing had never happened, people began to think that Melissa was losing her mind.
To get away from Pete, Melissa quit her job at Shenanigans and found work at a flower shop making flower deliveries. Little did Melissa know that she was innocently delivering massive amounts of cocaine -- the flower shop was merely a cover for a drug operation run by the shop's manager, Barry Reid. Pete constantly warned her to stay away from Barry because he was not to be trusted (Barry was Pete's sister's abusive ex-husband and an ex-con.) But Melissa was too stubborn to listen to his warnings. Some time after Christmas, Melissa accidentally found out the truth when she picked up an order of flowers and a packet of cocaine fell out. Although she kept quiet about this at first, Melissa finally reported this to the police when she discovered more cocaine in her deliveries. But when she heard that the police were looking for her, Melissa panicked and hid at the burnt ruins of her family's legacy in Salem, the Anderson Manufacturing plant (which had exploded on New Year's Eve). While at the plant, she overheard Alex and her mother discussing the way they had blown up the plant to collect the insurance money. She also heard Alex call Linda "Madame X". This caused Melissa to realize that Pete hadn't known that Madame X was her mother Linda (as Madame X, Linda had always worn a veil.) Later, Barry was arrested and he denounced Melissa as a willful participant in the drug operation. When Melissa heard this, she decided to leave Salem. Before doing so, she stopped at a grocery store and stole some food items. She was caught by the girl who was working but the girl, Ivy, let her go out of pity. Later, Ivy followed Melissa to the Anderson plant and invited her to stay with her for a few days. Melissa, going by the name of "Mary", accepted Ivy's offer. As "Mary", Melissa gave Ivy advice, such as pursuing a boy she liked named PJ. Unbeknownst to Melissa, PJ stood for Pete Jannings. Soon after, Melissa realized that she needed to leave Salem. She finally contacted the only person she knew wouldn't turn her over to the police: Pete. First, Melissa apologized for not having believed in him about his involvement with Linda. Then, Pete agreed to give her money to get out of Salem as long as she promised to go stay with Maggie in New York. Then, they parted ways in tears, admitting once again that they loved each other.
But instead of going to New York, Melissa merely went to the other side of Salem, which was mainly an impoverished area. Staying in a cheap motel, Melissa wrote to Pete about the supposedly wonderful life she was leading in New York dancing on Broadway. However, Pete noticed that the envelope was postmarked from Salem. In no time, Bo Brady found Melissa and brought her back to her family. For her involvement with Barry, Melissa received one year's probation from the judge. With this nightmare over, Pete pursued a relationship with Melissa once again. She was reluctant to date him since she still felt guilty about the way she'd treated him. After all, he had told the truth about Linda and he had been right about Barry. In the end, she decided to give it another try, even after Pete confessed to have dated someone else during her absence. Meanwhile, Melissa looked up Ivy and told her about her good fortune. As it turned out, Ivy was also on cloud nine because PJ had made love to her. When they finally realized that they were both in love with the same person, their friendship was ruined forever. It turned out that Ivy was not only the girl who had dated Pete, but that she was pregnant as well! Wanting to take responsibility for the child, Pete stood by Ivy and married her. Although Melissa still loved Pete, she promised Ivy that she would stay away from him. Meanwhile, Melissa began teaching ballet classes to young children at the Anderson plant. But when the time came to demolish the place, she had to move the classes to the Body Connection, where Pete worked. Ivy furiously accused Melissa of going after Pete, but she eventually accepted (reluctantly) her presence there.
Seeing
Pete & Ivy's marriage as the end to her relationship with
Pete, Melissa tried to move on. She soon met Todd Chandler, who
heavily flirted with Melissa while making Pete extremely jealous.
Seeing Ivy married to Pete and expecting his child wasn't exactly
thrilling for her either. One night at Maggie's farm, Melissa and
Pete finally confronted the truth. During a major argument, Melissa
and Pete at last admitted that they needed one another and made love.
After a night when only the two of them existed, Pete and Melissa had
to come back to reality. Ivy's pregnancy was advancing, and Pete
needed to be there for her. Reluctantly, Melissa and Pete agreed to
stop seeing each other.
Despite
this pact, it was impossible for them to avoid each other. Part of
Melissa's community service was to teach dance classes to a group of
girls at the Body Connection. Meanwhile, Melissa continued to report
to her parole officer, Ian Griffith, who also counseled her on her
situation with Pete. Ian's supportive and sensitivity was misread by
the impressionable Melissa and she began to think that she was in
love with him. It soon became more than obvious that Ian harbored an
attraction toward Melissa as well. Pete noticed this and once again
developed an extreme jealousy. One day, Melissa was at Ian's office
with one of her dance students when a disturbed man named Jake
Sellers decided to take them hostage. While she was held hostage,
Pete rushed to the police station to help Melissa. Jake was
eventually arrested and Melissa survived the incident unscathed, and
Pete's concern for her didn't go unnoticed. However, Ian counseled
her following the incident, expressing his concern for her at the
time, and she took much more notice of his feelings for her.
Convinced that she loved Ian, she tried to seduce him by inviting him
to her house for a counseling session while wearing a negligee.
Frighteningly, it almost worked. Ian confessed that he found Melissa
"sexy", but resisted his impulses. Melissa only felt ridiculous after
her stunt. Yet, Ian's attraction to her only intensified so he
stopped being her probation officer, and they began to spend a lot of
time with each other. Toward the end of her Senior year, Melissa
asked Ian to her Prom. However, they stayed at home. Once again, they
almost love but stopped at the last moment. Some time after her high
school graduation, Melissa and Ian attempted to make love once again
at his apartment. This time it seemed like they'd actually go through
with it. But as they were about to do it, Dale, Ian's wife (whom he'd
conveniently forgotten to mention) walked in on them! Humiliated,
Melissa left Ian in tears and turned to Pete for comfort. She finally
realized the mistake she would've made with Ian. Though she didn't
admit it out loud, she still loved Pete.
In
the summer, Melissa innocently found a way to get herself in trouble
once again when she and Pete took some pictures together. When it was
picked up, she found that there had been a mix-up; the photos she
had, which were numbered, were of odd things, such as lights,
fountains, newspapers, roses, glasses, etc. It didn't take her and
Pete to realize these were clues to something big, especially after
someone tried to kill them in order to get them back. They tried
going to the police but they realized that even they couldn't be
trusted when they saw the man who'd tried to kill them plotting with
a police officer. With their lives in danger, Melissa and Pete ran
away from Salem. Not knowing what else to do, they decided to follow
the clues they had in order to resolve the mystery behind them. The
first clue led them to Los Angeles, where they needed to locate the
first clue inside a Hollywood soundstage at the Pick-Vanoff Studios.
In the search for whatever it was they were looking for, Melissa and
Pete accidentally wandered onto a taping of the gameshow "Deal Me
In." After the show, they were late getting out of the studio and
were locked in, forced to spend the night together inside a lone
soundstage. Trying to avoid her feelings for Pete, Melissa found the
sound system and decided to dance. Pete secretly watched as she
danced, and they finally came face to face with the fact that they
still loved each other.
However,
Melissa refused to act upon her feelings because she knew that this
wouldn't last forever. Pete and Melissa continued to run, with their
next stop in Dallas. There they dodged bullets once again but managed
to team up with Todd, who claimed to have come looking for them. Pete
immediately didn't trust him, and he was right; Todd was working for
Savannah. The next set of clues were hidden in an elevator at an
office building. Wearing disguises, the threesome searched for them,
unaware that another hitman, Bob McBride, was on their tail. Just
when Melissa found the clue, she came face to face with McBride...and
his gun. As he was about to shoot her, Todd jumped in the way and
saved her. All three of them managed to escape from McBride, but Todd
had been seriously wounded. They managed to make it to an isolated
farm where the owner helped to care for Todd. After he recovered,
Todd confessed that he had been working for the enemy but had decided
to help Pete & Melissa instead. He informed them that the clues
they were looking for led to a very important treasure sought by
Savannah's big boss, Victor
Kiriakis.
The
next set of clues led them to Chicago, where the group had to avoid
the police. Apparently, an APB had been placed which accused them of
everything from grand auto theft to attempted murder. The group all
got temporary jobs at a Carnival to make some money. The carnival
owner's son liked Melissa but she ignored him, which only made him
angry. While there, Pete and Melissa grew close once again and
exchanged their first kiss in ages. Unfortunately, the carnival
owner's son saw them kissing and decided to report them to the
police. Todd was arrested, but Pete and Melissa helped him escape.
After getting the next set of clues, the group moved on to the last
leg of their adventure: Boston. On the way there, the group stopped
at a farm and were soon joined by a girl who helped them out of a
jam, Amy Roberts. Although Todd, Melissa, and Pete tried to hide the
true purpose of their trip from her, she eventually realized that
something strange was going on. In Boston, Pete and Melissa went off
on their own to search for their last clue. While doing so, they
continued to grow closer, returning to the innocent relationship that
they'd once had. While in Boston, they were stalked by Patch, one of
Savannah's men, who tried to kill them in order to get their clues.
Managing to dodge him, the group found the following set of clues and
returned to Salem. Once there, they contacted Shane, who told them to
give their clues to Bo and Hope
Brady. They would take on the treasure hunt from now on in
Miami.
Although
the search for the treasure was now up to Bo and Hope, Pete and
Melissa stayed hidden until Victor could be brought down. They only
contacted Ivy, so that Pete could finally meet his son, Charlie. At
this time, Pete asked Melissa to marry him. But seeing Charlie with
Pete, Melissa began to think that their relationship was wrong; she
didn't want to break up Charlie's family. But in the end, she came to
the conclusion that Charlie would be worse off having two parents who
hated each other. So when Pete asked the question again, Melissa
joyfully accepted. Soon after this Victor was finally arrested, along
with all of his flunkies. Amy, who also turned out to be a plant, was
also arrested just before she tried to kill Todd, Pete, and Melissa.
With the danger finally behind them, Pete and Melissa eagerly planned
their marriage. Pete and Todd bought Jump! and the Body Connection,
and Ivy finally granted Pete a divorce. On Valentine's Day, 1986,
Pete and Melissa were married in a double ceremony with Maggie and
Mickey.
For their honeymoon, Melissa and Pete planned to go to the mountains to ski. But on their wedding night, a masked man broke into their cottage, knocked Pete unconscious, and tried to rape Melissa. Luckily, Pete came around just in time to save Melissa and drive the maniac away. In the process, the man stole Melissa's negligee. They deduced that the man was a serial rapist who had been stalking the women in and around Salem University Hospital. Unfortunately, neither Pete nor Melissa had been able to see their attacker's face. Refusing to be deprived of a honeymoon, Pete and Melissa quickly changed their plans and went Bermuda. Upon their return, however, they began arguing over the management of Jump! Pete inexplicably wanted to acquire an alcohol license for the place. Melissa was dead against this not only because Jump! was a teenage club, but also because she knew that Todd was an alcoholic. Knowing that Todd didn't want his illness to be known, Melissa (or anyone else) told Pete this. But Pete was set on serving alcohol at Jump! One evening after a particularly bad argument, Melissa walked out on Pete and went to the club to dance off her frustration. When she arrived at Jump!, she found the place empty. Thinking that everyone must've gone home, she headed for the dance floor. But as she began to dance, Ian Griffith came out of the shadows holding the negligee that had been stolen from the honeymoon cottage. He was the Hospital Rapist. Again he attacked her, but this time John Black and Pete arrived in time to subdue him. A deranged Ian was immediately arrested. All this time, he had been raping women in the hospital to release the frustration over the affair he and Melissa had almost had a year before.
After Ian was put away in prison, Melissa and Pete continued to have differences over the management of the club. Finally, Pete's decision to serve alcohol had a disastrous effect when Todd fell off wagon and died while driving under the influence. Melissa was devastated by Tod's death because she felt she could've prevented it. Despite this, Pete continued to serve alcohol. Melissa didn't know it, but Pete was being pressured by Victor Kiriakis into doing so. Meanwhile, Melissa decided to focus on her dance career once again. The acclaimed dancer Lars Englund had chosen to set up a dance troupe in Salem, and Melissa wanted to be a part of it. However, Lars was an extremely irritable and egocentric twit. At the audition, he intimidated Melissa so much that her performance was jittery; worse yet, he deemed her unskilled and pathetic after less than 30 seconds of dancing and told her to go away. Poor Melissa was dismayed at her terrible audition. But just as she was coming to terms with the fact that she'd never be in a dance troupe, Melissa was called back and was told that she had made the troupe! Melissa figured that perhaps Maggie, who was on the Salem Arts Council, had persuaded Lars to give her a chance. But in reality, it had been Pete who had arranged for Melissa to be accepted by talking to Victor. Victor was funding Lars' troupe and he had threatened Lars with pulling all funding from the project if Melissa wasn't accepted. In any case, Melissa was determined to show Lars that she was a good dancer. And she did.
Melissa
quickly showed Lars what a fool he had been when judging her when she
and Lars were invited to dance at the Statue of Liberty Celebration
on the 4th of July. Their success in New York caused Melissa to
become Lars' leading partner, which meant working very closely. The
long hours of practice and the passionate nature of the performances
soon began to have an effect on both Lars and Melissa. As they became
closer, they developed a powerful attraction to each other and
kissed. While Lars was quick to admit that he wanted Melissa, she was
reticent because she loved Pete. However, she and Pete continued to
have problems over the management of Jump! and illegal dealings that
she discovered were being made through the club. Melissa was also
jealous of Ivy's lingering presence in their lives. As Melissa's
marriage to Pete became more strained, she began to give in to her
feelings for Lars. But during this time, Melissa was taken hostage by
a disturbed man at the hospital who wanted revenge against Mike. In
the mess that followed, Melissa was shot by the man. Although she
wasn't seriously wounded, Pete's genuine love and concern for her
made her feel even more guilty about her attraction to Lars. One
night while practicing a very sensual routine, Melissa and Lars
segued into a deep kiss. While kissing, Pete walked in! Fortunately,
Lars made it seem as if it was part of the routine. Pete did not
freak out about it, but it did give him reason to have suspicions.
Meanwhile, Melissa finally admitted to Lars that she had strong
feelings for him.
As
Melissa accepted her feelings for Lars more, Pete became more
suspicious of them. Though Melissa was not having a sexual affair
with Lars, she was carrying on an emotional relationship with him.
During this time, Pete suffered a crushing accident while helping Bo
unload some cargo at the docks. The accident caused Pete to lose the
movement of his legs and he became bound to a wheelchair. The need to
tend to her injured husband, compounded by the guilt of her
relationship with Lars, convinced Melissa to end it with Lars. She
stayed by Pete's side as he struggled with his paralysis.
Unfortunately, Lars refused to be kept at bay and coaxed Melissa into
meeting him in secret. Soon, he invited her to his apartment.
Although Melissa almost accepted, she noticed Pete spying on
her...and he was standing on both legs! Realizing that Pete had been
faking his paralysis to keep her by his side, Melissa blew up at him.
During their fierce argument, Melissa lambasted Pete for the lies
he'd told her regarding his criminal activities, his lingering
feelings for Ivy, and his paralysis ploy. Likewise, Pete berated
Melissa for pretending to love only him when in fact she was in love
with Lars. Melissa and Pete tearfully came to the conclusion that
their marriage was beyond repair. In December of 1986, after ten
months of marriage, Pete and Melissa divorced. Pete then left for
Ohio to begin to a new life with Ivy and Charlie. Before leaving, he
vowed to Melissa that he would always love her.
