Carrie
is the daughter of Roman and Anna Brady. She is the half-sister of
Eric and Samantha Brady, and is the ex-wife of Austin
Reed.
Carrie was born on a yacht and lived on it for over four years, until she and her mother came to Salem. Therefore she was ignorant about many things and was very innocent. Though Carrie grew up on a ship among strangers, her mother told her everything there was to know about her father, Roman Brady. As a result, she deeply loved him even though she never knew him. In the summer of 1982, Anna and Carrie finally got off the ship and came to Salem. Anna then left Carrie in the care of a woman at a hotel with instructions to bring Carrie to Roman Brady if she didn't return. Anna didn't return, so the woman brought Carrie to the hospital where Roman Brady was. As soon as she saw Roman, Carrie walked up to him and told him that she loved him. As it turned out, Anna had been admitted into the hospital because she was ill. While Anna recovered, Anna stayed with Roman. Carrie and Roman quickly got to know each other and adapted very well to one another. Carrie also became fond of Roman's fiancée, Marlena Evans. However, she innocently believed that her mother and father would live together once Anna recovered. But once the situation was explained to Carrie, she accepted the idea of having Marlena as a second mother.
While
living with Roman, Carrie was used by Anna. Anna, who actually worked
for Stefano DiMera, took advantage of Carrie's close proximity to
Roman in order to frame Roman for bribery. Using a pinwheel and a
music box, Anna programmed a post-hypnotic suggestion in Carrie so
that she would plant bribery evidence on Roman. The suggestion worked
and Carrie unknowingly got Roman suspended from the police force.
Neither she nor anyone besides Anna, Stefano, and Alex Marshall would
ever learn what she had done. Carrie continued to live with Roman and
Marlena. When Anna married Tony DiMera, Carrie spent weekends living
with them and grew very fond of Tony. Even after Anna and Tony
divorced, Carrie always held a special place for Tony.
In
December of 1983, Carrie was ice skating in the park when she slipped
and fell on the ice. She suffered a concussion as a result of the
blow to her head and fell into a coma. Roman, who was at the time a
fugitive from the law, disguised himself as Santa Claus to visit her
in the hospital. As Roman read Carrie the Christmas Story from the
Bible (which he had done for the first time the year before), Carrie
miraculously woke up and instantly recognized her daddy underneath
the disguise. She was happy to see him, and promised to not tell
anyone that he had come to see her. She soon recovered from the
accident and was released from the hospital. In November of 1984,
Roman was killed by Stefano. His death devastated Carrie, but she
managed to pull through with the help of her family. Marlena
continued to have custody of Carrie after Roman's death. In 1986,
Carrie met Marlena's friend, John Black, after John saved Marlena
from a mugger.
Now
12 years old, Carrie soon began to dislike John to a point where she
couldn't even be remotely polite to him. This made matters much worse
when it was discovered that John was actually Roman! He hadn't died,
but he'd received extensive plastic surgery. Carrie was horrified to
find out that this man she hated so much was actually her father. So
unwilling was she to believe that John was her father that Carrie
tried running away from the house, but Roman brought her home. It
wasn't until John saved Carrie's life that she began to accept him as
her father. Over time, Carrie accepted the new Roman and loved him as
much as ever. This fact helped get her through the next trauma in her
life -- Marlena's death. Also there to help her was a new friend of
Roman's, Olivia Reed. Olivia quickly gained Carrie's trust by taking
on a maternal role. She helped guide her to the troubled waters of
adolescence, buying Carrie her first bra.
During
this time, Carrie also began to take an interest in boys, namely a
high school punk named Derek Sweeney. Carrie became infatuated with
him. He simply used her to annoy Frankie Brady, a boy who had
recently been adopted by Shawn and Caroline Brady. On Salem High's
1987 Prom, Carrie sneaked out of the house to attend the dance with
Derek knowing that she was too young to be there. Derek tried to come
on to Carrie and when she spurned his advances he made fun of her.
Frankie was infuriated by this and a fight broke out between them.
Afterwards, Frankie took Carrie home and promised to keep her
presence at the Prom a secret. Frankie's heroic act that night caused
Carrie to develop a crush on him. She eventually got over it. Later
that year, Carrie befriended Abe Carver's younger brother Jonah. One
day, they decided to take a boat out on the river even though they
didn't have much experience with it. When the boat overturned, Carrie
nearly drowned. Luckily, a woman named Diana Colville passed by in
time to jump into the water and save Carrie. Diana would continue to
play a large role in Carrie's life, as she would become Roman's next
romance and Carrie's next maternal figure. Carrie and Diana would
develop a very close friendship over time.
In
the late summer of 1988, Carrie met Julio Ramírez at the
police station while waiting for her Dad. It was love at first sight.
Julio was bailing out his brother Emilio and Carrie lended him $5 to
complete the bail amount. She and Julio would continue to cross paths
until they finally formed a friendship. However, Carrie avoided
telling Julio her last name because he disliked cops (Julio's brother
Emilio had several unjust run-ins with the law, not to mention that
Roman had killed Julio's other brother, Raul.) Carrie was afraid that
Julio wouldn't like her if he found out that she was the police
Commander's daughter. Carrie and Julio grew close as she comforted
him while his mother dealt with cancer. Meanwhile, Roman's activities
began putting Carrie's life in danger. Carrie had found a peculiar
ring made up of three interlocking rings in her house. Liking it, she
put the ring on a chain and wore it as a necklace, unaware that both
her father and an unknown enemy of his were desperately looking for
it. One night while at The Spectator with Diana, someone grabbed
Carrie in the dark and held a knife to her throat. Before the person
could take Carrie's necklace, Diana threw photography chemicals in
his face and got Carrie away from him. Carrie and Diana tried to
escape from the building but the man then set it on fire. Luckily,
the firemen arrived in time for Diana and Carrie to jump out the
window and onto a net. Carrie was unhurt after the incident, and when
Roman and Diana saw her necklace they realized why she'd been the
target of the attack. Life went back to normal after this, and Carrie
and Julio continued to grow closer. However, when he finally learned
that she was Roman's daughter he told her that they could never be
friends. Carrie was heartbroken by Julio's rejection. Meanwhile,
Carrie attended a Halloween costume ball at the Donovan Manor with
Diana, both wearing matching Balinese dancer costumes. But while
taking a stroll in the gardens, Carrie was abducted by
somebody.
Carrie
was kept locked up in a room that was furnished exactly like her
bedroom at home. However, no one would tell her where she was and who
was keeping her there. One night, a man knocked on the door. It was
Orion, someone who was associated with Roman. With his help, Carrie
found a telephone and called her father. But before being able to
tell Roman details about where she was, someone took the receiver
from Carrie and hung up. Carrie was horrified to see that it was the
man who had shot her father several years earlier, Stefano DiMera.
Though Stefano tried to put Carrie at ease and make her as
comfortable as possible, he made it clear to her that he intended to
raise her from now on. Carrie's one comforting thought through all of
this was that her father would come to save her. Even when Stefano
posed to Carrie the possibility that her father, who looked nothing
like he did years ago, could be an impostor, Carrie stoically
maintained that Roman was her father and would die for her.
Eventually, Roman and several other family members did arrive at
Stefano's compound, which was on an island in the Bahamas. Along with
Steve, Kayla, and their ward Benjy, Carrie left the island on an
inflatable raft.
When
Carrie returned to Salem, she found that Julio had been extremely
worried about her. Despite this, he kept his distance because of his
hatred for Roman. Though he was willing to be friends with Carrie, he
was hesitant about taking their relationship to the next step. Carrie
eagerly waited for Julio to ask her to the Spring Dance but he never
did. She intended to go to the dance alone, but the that day she came
down with a fever. To Carrie's surprise, Julio came to her house and
took care of her. However, Carrie's fever worsened, and she developed
a rash to boot. Over the next few days, other kids in the
neighborhood also came down with the same symptoms. Diana
investigated the cause of the illness and discovered that there was
illegal waste dumping in an area near the school. Julio continued to
take care of Carrie. She eventually got over the fever but the rash
remained, which put a small crimp on her relationship with Julio. As
they were about to kiss for the first time, Julio noticed her rash
and backed away. Though he told Carrie that she was still beautiful,
the kiss would have to wait. The rash turned out to have been caused
by some toxic waste dumping nearby. After Diana exposed this in the
Spectator, Carrie healed nicely and got a part-time job at a movie
theater. Meanwhile, Roman was shot during a struggle with one Cal
Winters. After Roman recovered, it was discovered that Diana had been
the one who'd shot him. Carrie was so angry at Diana for what she'd
done that she told her to go away forever. One night, Diana did just
that and left Salem.
During
this time, Julio began to be pressured by some neighborhood kids to
become a member of the Stingrays, a notorious inner city gang. His
involvement with the Stingrays forced Roman to prohibit Carrie from
seeing him. Still, Carrie refused to accept that Julio was bad for
her and disobeyed Roman, sneaking off to see him. With Diana's
absence, Carrie's attitude problems got completely out of hand. She
talked back to Roman, hung out with a very fast crowd, dressed more
provocatively, and basically just stopped being Daddy's little girl.
Finally, she decided to run away one night with Julio. Although they
were missing for a couple of days, they never made it out of Salem.
Roman, with Yvette Duprès' help, found them in a nasty motel.
Carrie took to Yvette's friendliness, took her advice, and returned
home. Carrie really liked Yvette, and found in her yet another
maternal figure to look up to. Meanwhile, she and Julio's
relationship escalated until they finally kissed. Also during this
time, Julio's troubles with the Stingrays ended when he finally chose
to stay away from gang life. However, he then received a scholarship
to study at Juilliard. Knowing that Julio had a bright future as a
concert pianist, Carrie convinced him to go. In December 1989, Julio
and Carrie said their good-byes as he left for New York
City.
1990
was quite a year for Carrie. Porter Rollins, a low-budget film
producer, rolled into Salem with his movie crew and teen idol Chad
Webster ready to film a new movie: Wild Night of the Teenage
Vampires -- Part 2. Carrie was thrilled at the fact that there
was an open casting call for the movie and tried out for one of the
leads...and got the role! She and Sarah Horton were ecstatic at
having gotten parts in the movie...and to be working with Chad
Webster. The movie was, as you might guess, a cheap horror flick that
would be filmed in a real haunted house. But the film was as jinxed
as the script was bad. Several "hauntings" stopped production many
times. Unbeknownst to everyone, the ghosts were just illusions
created by a machine being used by Johnny Corelli. On the set,
however, there were worse problems. Teen idol Chad Webster was dating
both Carrie and Sarah. What was worse, he was a regular drug user and
just plain trouble. At one point, Carrie was caught with his
cocaine-freebasing equipment in her possession and arrested. Soon
after, a small fire occurred on the set and Roman shut down the
entire production. In January of 1991, Carrie was sent away to Europe
to join her mother, who had moved there following her divorce from
Tony DiMera in 1986.
In
early January 1992, Carrie made her way back to Salem for two
reasons. Just a month earlier, it had been discovered that the man
who had been calling himself Roman Brady since 1986 was, in fact, an
impostor. The real Roman Brady had returned after being held captive
in a Caribbean island, and Carrie wished to see him. Secondly, she
wanted to tell the impostor, who now called himself John Black once
again, how much she despised him. So, Carrie made her way back to
Salem one stormy night, during a flash flood warning, and was
suddenly encountered with John in a storm shelter. She still regarded
him as her father, but also held a lot of hatred toward him. She got
over it rather quickly after Marlena explained to her that it wasn't
John's fault that he'd believed he was Roman. In the meantime, Carrie
was amazed to see her real father, Roman, looking just as she
remembered him before his "death" in 1984. Meanwhile, she began
taking classes at Salem University.
Carrie
had changed quite a bit since she'd left for Europe. For one thing,
she was now a rebellious teenager with a chip on her shoulder (it was
revealed that Anna hadn't been the world's most attentive mother.) So
when Roman suddenly disappeared as a result of an undercover
operation, Carrie began getting into trouble, the first order of
business being getting involved with Lawrence Alamain. Carrie was
inexplicably attracted to Lawrence, and he soon caught on to her
attraction to him. Lawrence played on Carrie's feelings for him to
keep tabs on John, who he suspected of being Romulus (see
Vivian
for more information). Despite Marlena and John's warnings that
Lawrence was evil, Carrie continued to see him thinking that she was
in love with him. But Carrie also noticed that Lawrence still carried
a torch for Carly Manning, with whom he had been involved in the
past, and got jealous. To prove that she was mature and able to make
him forget Carly, Carrie decided to make love to Lawrence. She bought
condoms and a nightgown, and showed up at Lawrence's. Though he was
hesitant, she made the move and began to seduce him. Just as they
were getting too far, John burst into Lawrence's bedroom (Tanner
Scofield had seen Carrie entering Lawrence's house and alerted John)
and told Lawrence to get his hands off Carrie. Carrie tried to
protect Lawrence to John, but John finally mentioned that little
piece of information everyone had been avoiding to tell her -- that
Lawrence had raped Jennifer Deveraux two years prior. Carrie ran out
in shame, only to be confronted by Roman and Marlena, who'd also been
alerted by Tanner. Marlena finally made Carrie understand how
dangerous Lawrence was and the way he'd been using her, and Carrie
finally got over her infatuation. In the meantime, however, she chose
to move out of the house and began looking for an apartment with her
new friend Jesse Lombard.
Carrie quickly got caught up in Jesse's problems. Jesse had a very unfortunate home life with uncaring and abusive parents who were still grieving the death of Jesse's older brother, Dean Lombard. As a result, Jesse was getting into all sorts of trouble with the police, having assaulted Marlena (who was counseling the Lombards) numerous times. At one point, he was going to run away from Salem, but Carrie convinced them to stay. Finally, Jesse cooled down a bit and they moved into an apartment in one of Salem's lesser neighborhoods. Roman and Marlena weren't thrilled with her decision to live with Jesse, but there really was nothing they could do about it. Meanwhile, Carrie and Jesse were faced with annoying neighbors who played the piano too much. They also began working at a trendy clothing store, Ballistix, at the newly-opened shopping center, Salem Place. On her first day at work, Carrie's attention was drawn to a customer who chose to try out a T-shirt right in the middle of the store; the customer turned out to be her noisy neighbor who played the piano too much, and his name was Austin Reed. Carrie was immediately infatuated with Austin, and so the saga began...
While Carrie was busy ogling over Austin, she and Jesse began having problems paying their bills. Eventually, Jesse stumbled upon a gambling ring and began betting on horse races in order to win money to pay the bills. Carrie also got caught up in the ring, unaware that the object of her affection, Austin, was one of the leaders of the illegal ring. Carrie began to get more deeply involved with the ring, to Austin's chagrin, and wound up dating Austin's partner, Tim Rollins. Though Carrie liked Austin much more, Tim made it possible for her to pay the bills. Plus, she wanted to make Austin jealous.
However, Carrie's tactics didn't work. Austin brushed off her relationship with Tim and remained only concerned for a certain woman he'd known in Boston, where he'd lived before coming to Salem. Carrie assumed it was a girlfriend. And when "she" finally arrived in Salem, Carrie became insanely jealous. As it turned out, "she" was Billie Reed, Austin's sister. Boy was Carrie's face red. Still, she came to the conclusion that Austin didn't care about her and continued to see Tim. She finally stopped after he took her to a rave busted by the police. Eventually, Austin got out of the bookie business and began boxing to make ends meet. At this time, he and Carrie finally saw eye-to-eye and began dating.
By
now, Jesse Lombard had almost completely faded out of Carrie's life.
His mother Stella had gone loony tunes and tried to kill Marlena,
eventually being run over by a truck. After Stella died, Jesse and
his father Roger left Salem. To compensate for Jesse's half of the
rent, Carrie asked Billie to move in with her. Billie and Carrie got
off to a rough start, but they became good friends over time. In the
meantime, Austin was busy being manipulated by another gambling ring.
The honchos of the ring told him to throw prize fights in order to
rake in lots of money. He did this for a while and kept it secret
from Carrie, who thought all he needed was confidence. During a very
important New Year's Boxing match, Carrie sat by the ring and
encouraged Austin to win. He decided not to throw the fight and
won...angering some very nasty people.
Carrie,
however, was unaware of the danger. She was only gushing about her
boyfriend and excited over an invitation to the upcoming inauguration
party of Titan Publishing. The party, which also launched Bella
Magazine, also announced the three finalists of The Face of the 90's
contest, a much-talked about event which would place one of Salem's
beauties on the cover of Bella. To Carrie's surprise, she was one of
the finalists! Austin had secretly entered her into the contest. The
night had turned out to be a success, and there was much promise, as
Austin and Carrie were planning to go away together after the party.
Carrie, who was still a virgin, was willing to make love for the
first time with Austin. Oh but alas, this would not happen -- not
yet, anyway. As the loving couple walked out of the Titan building,
Gus Bartoli (Austin's boxing coach and the guy who was going to pay
for Austin winning the New Year's fight) ran up to them hoping to
splash a little sulfuric acid on Austin's "pretty boy" face.
Unfortunately for Gus, Austin was playfully swinging Carrie around in
his arms at the time, and the acid struck Carrie's face.
Carrie
was left with a rather ghastly scar on her right cheek which made her
feel unattractive and worthless. However, Austin assured her that he
still loved her. Sadly, Roman was angered when he realized that the
acid had been meant for Austin as a result of his involvement with
the shady gambling ring. Roman arrested Austin and was ready to file
charges against him, but Carrie interceded. She told her father to
leave Austin alone; in exchange, she would stop seeing him. So all of
a sudden, Carrie turned against Austin, blamed him for her
disfigurement, and broke up with him. Meanwhile, Carrie tried to
correct her scars with skin grafts. The first one didn't work, and
Carrie felt worthless. To make matters worse, Carrie wound up winning
the Face of the 90's contest! She dreaded appearing on the cover of
Bella with her scars, but Lucas Roberts, the son of Bella editor Kate
Roberts, convinced her to go ahead with it. He told her that girls
around the country would be inspired by her saga and inner beauty
(please!). While it was obvious that Lucas had designs on Carrie, she
still longed for Austin, who had tried to reconcile way too many
times to count.
In the summer of 1993, Carrie lost all hope of having Austin again when she saw him kissing a blonde bimbo named Brandee, a model for Bella. Hurt, she turned to Lucas for comfort. Meanwhile, after two more skin grafts, Carrie's scars healed! In the meantime, Carrie left Salem University and worked with Billie to launch Billie's new company, Countess Wilhelmina.
In the fall, Carrie received shocking news from Brandee, who had long broken up with Austin: Lucas had hired her to seduce Austin in order to keep him from reconciling with Carrie. Sami Brady, Carrie's little sister who'd had a crush on Austin, had also played a part in this scheme and corroborated Brandee's story. Carrie quickly turned her back on Lucas. However, she didn't reunite with Austin. She briefly dated Alan Harris, a 21-year old friend of Lucas' from military school. After a few short weeks, Carrie and Alan stopped dating and she finally got back together with Austin.
Austin
and Carrie slowly got into the groove of things. In the meantime,
Carrie managed to forgive Lucas & Sami for plotting to ruin her
relationship with Austin. In February of 1994 , Austin and Carrie
finally made that special trip they'd planned a year earlier: a ski
weekend at the Green Mountain Ski Lodge during which they'd make love
for the first time. Everything seemed perfect, despite the fact that
Lucas was at the ski lodge looming in the background. But as Carrie
and Austin began to get romantic, someone frantically knocked on the
door. It was Jennifer Deveraux, who was spending the weekend there
with Peter Blake. Her mother's sanitarium was burning down and she
needed Austin to take her to the airport. Austin obliged and an
understanding Carrie awaited his return. After some time, there was a
knock at the door and Carrie assumed it was Austin. Instead, she was
shocked to find a tall man clad in black, wearing a black ski mask
over his face. He forced his way into the room and attempted to rape
Carrie. Luckily, Carrie's screams scared the stranger away. The
stranger escaped through the window while Austin responded to her
screams.
Once again, Carrie and Austin's lovemaking was postponed. Although Carrie said that she was fine, the attempted rape had left her very shaken up. She cringed at the touch of any man, including Austin and her own father Roman. Austin vowed revenge against whomever had attacked Carrie. When he discovered that Lucas had been at the ski lodge that night, Austin beat up poor Lucas. Nevermind the fact that the rapist had been 6 feet tall and Lucas was a shrimp! Carrie felt that Lucas was innocent and begged Austin to stop distrusting him. Meanwhile, Carrie was asked to testify at Billie's (who was charged with murdering one Curtis Brown) trial. Lucas had confessed to the crime after suspicion had fallen on his mother Kate, and Carrie testified that Lucas indeed had been looking for Curtis Brown the night he was killed. Lucas was eventually set free, and so was Billie; the murderer had been Stefano DiMera. This trial revealed two things: Curtis Brown had been Austin's father, Curtis Reed (Austin and Billie had sworn to each other never to reveal this fact), and the possibility that Kate Roberts was their mother (she'd been married to Curtis and had had two children by him.) Kate refused to believe that Austin and Billie were her children. So Carrie showed Kate a brooch that Austin had given her, which he claimed had belonged to his mother. This helped Kate accept the fact that Austin and Billie were her children. Meanwhile, Carrie got over her phobia towards men and finally made love to Austin.
Carrie soon decided to leave Countess Wilhelmina Cosmetics. Despite knowing that Billie was her daughter, Kate refused to return the company to her. As a show of devotion to Billie, Carrie quit. She went to work at the WATB TV studio where Austin worked. In time, Billie regained power in Countess Wilhelmina and Carrie chose to return, this time as Marketing Director. In the meantime, Carrie worried about Sami, who had been secretly dating the much-too-old Alan Harris.
In late summer, Carrie discovered something awful: Alan had raped Sami. Carrie, Lucas, and Austin worked tirelessly to find a way to bring Alan to justice. However, Sami had not gone to the hospital after being raped, so there was no way to prove that he'd committed a crime. Carrie and Lucas tracked down a girl Alan had dated in military school, Elaine Parker-Marshall. Elaine admitted that Alan had raped her, but refused to testify in court. With all legal methods exhausted, Carrie decided to wire herself and obtain a confession from Alan. She went to see Alan and he held her hostage. While Austin and Lucas listened, Carrie goaded Alan into confessing to raping Sami. He did, and also threatened to rape Carrie. At that moment, Alan discovered the wire and destroyed it. Alan, who was extremely furious, began to threat Carrie with a knife. Carrie briefly managed to escape from Alan only to stumble upon Sami, who had figured out where Carrie and Alan were. Alan then captured both girls and told them that they were all going to leave town together. Fortunately, Austin and Lucas figured out where Alan was keeping the girls hostage and rescued them.
Alan was promptly arrested, and Carrie convinced Sami to press rape charges against Alan. Unfortunately, Alan's lawyer, Fred Gillane, made Sami out to be a liar. Also, Elaine Parker-Marshall testified that Alan had been a "perfect gentleman" the entire time they'd dated. Thus, the rape case was dropped. However, there was still the kidnapping charges to contend with. On the stand, Carrie was badgered by Fred Gillane to the point that her testimony hurt their case. The judge declared a mistrial and Alan was set free -- so much for justice. Carrie, who had encouraged Sami to press charges against Sami, became the object of Sami's anger. All throughout Salem, Sami was viewed as a liar and Sami blamed Carrie for her troubles. She even smacked Carrie across the face for having encouraged her to press charges.
Soon, Carrie and Austin's relationships landed on the rocks once again. Austin, who felt protective of Sami, was constantly spending time with her in order to comfort her. At first, Carrie understood Austin's actions. Despite the fact that Sami had turned her back on her, Carrie wanted the best for her. However, when it seemed like Sami always had a problem every time Carrie and Austin were alone together, Carrie got suspicious. Sami was incessantly claiming that Alan was trying to rape her, thus Austin always went to her side to protect her. One night, Carrie found one of Sami's "I'm in trouble" messages on the answering machine. Suspecting that she was crying wolf, Carrie erased the message and never let Austin know. While Carrie and Austin had a romantic dinner, Sami was at the docks...this time she really was being attacked by Alan.
Carrie
felt pretty ashamed when she found out that Alan had tried to rape
Sami that night, though Sami managed to shoot him in the groin and
escape unharmed. However, Alan summoned Carrie to his hospital room
and confirmed her suspicions about Sami. Alan knew that Sami had been
crying wolf to steal Austin away from Carrie. When Carrie finally
confronted Sami, she returned the smack Sami had given her months
earlier. Unfortunately, Austin walked in just as Carrie slapped Sami
and became so furious at Carrie that they broke
up...again.
The
relationship between Austin and Carrie remained strained. While
Carrie pined away for Austin, and vice-versa, Sami infected Austin's
life by constantly spending time with him. After many months, Austin
and Carrie managed to reunite. However, Carrie began to suspect that
Austin was shacking up with another woman, having found lipstick on
Austin's pillow. Soon after, Sami ran away from Salem for reasons
unknown. Desperate to find her sister, Carrie questioned Sami's best
friend Jamie Caldwell. Jamie informed Carrie that Sami was headed to
Los Angeles. So, Carrie went to Los Angeles along with Austin in
search of Sami. After placing "Missing" posters all over Los Angeles,
a man began to follow Carrie. This man, Tyrone Wallace, claimed that
he worked for a runaway child organization and that he had a lead on
Sami. Carrie trustingly went with Ty to look for Sami in a seedy part
of Los Angeles, only to be imprisoned by Ty. Ty, who in reality was a
pimp, wanted to turn Carrie into one of his prostitutes. Carrie tried
to escape by hitting Ty over the head with a frying pan, but he
subdued her. After some time, Ty grew angry with Carrie and decided
to rape her. Just before doing so, Austin, who had been alerted to
Carrie's danger by one of Ty's prostitutes, saved the day.
Empty-handed, Carrie and Austin decided to return to Salem. As they
were about to leave, Emily, the teenage prostitute that had helped
Austin find Carrie, claimed that she'd seen Sami in LA However, the
only one who could possibly help them find Sami was Ty, who had gone
into hiding. To lure Ty out into the open, Carrie decided to dress up
as a prostitute. It worked. Unfortunately, Ty was hell-bent on
revenge and wanted to kill Carrie. Once again, Austin saved the day
by capturing Ty and calling the police. Before Ty was sent to jail,
he told Carrie that he had seen Sami some weeks prior, but she'd
mentioned leaving Los Angeles. Carrie and Austin were going to stay
in LA some more to search for Sami, but they were forced to return to
Salem upon receiving the news that Kate Roberts had perished in an
airplane crash.
Soon
after arriving back in Salem, Austin and Carrie worked out their
differences and became engaged. Although Carrie knew that Austin had
slept with another girl, she didn't want to know anything else. She
wanted to leave the past and concentrate on the future. She and
Austin began planning a wedding which would take place in the fall.
The wedding, however, seemed cursed. Their engagement party was
halted by a vast swarm of bees. Though Carrie escaped unharmed, her
grandfather Shawn was sent to the hospital with bee stings. Some time
later, Carrie would come to realize that Marlena was possessed by the
Devil, and the swarm of bees had been conjured up by her. After
Marlena was exorcised, Carrie made her the matron of honor at her
wedding. Despite all of this, Carrie still was worried about her
wayward sister Sami. No one knew where she was. The day of the
wedding arrived. As Carrie and Austin were saying their vows, Mickey
Horton suddenly interrupted the ceremony with Sami in tow. He'd found
her outside the main hall of the church. After a joyful reunion,
Carrie made Sami her maid of honor and the wedding began once again.
As Sami was walking down the aisle, unfortunately, she fainted.
Awakening, she claimed that she was pregnant...with Austin's baby!
Mortified, Carrie realized that Sami had been the girl Austin had
slept with and canceled the wedding.
