Bo
Brady is the biological son of Caroline Brady and Victor
Kiriakis, although Shawn
Brady raised him. He is the half-brother of Roman, Kayla,
and Kimberly
Brady, and of Phillip
Kiriakis and Isabella Toscano. He is also the adoptive brother of
Frankie and Max Brady. He is the father of Shawn-Douglas and Georgia
Brady. Bo is the husband of Hope
Williams and the ex-husband
of Billie
Reed.
The
youngest of the original Brady children, Bo was also the rebel of the
clan. In the Spring of 1983, he finally made his way back to Salem
after spending 4 years in the Merchant Marines. First referred to by
his family as Marcus Aurelius (Aurelius would turn out to be Bo's
middle name), Bo arrived on his motorcycle and headed straight to the
police station to give his brother Roman a belated wedding present.
It was clear that there was sibling rivalry between Bo and Roman, and
it flared up when it was discovered that Bo's present -- a microwave
-- had been reported stolen. Bo managed to avoid any criminal charges
for having bought a stolen microwave. He soon settled in Salem and
began working with a washed-up, cigar-smoking private investigator
named Howie Hoffstedder. The first case that he helped to resolve was
the murder of Trista
Evans' mother.
Meanwhile,
Bo hit on every woman he laid eyes on, including Roman's wife
Marlena.
One night while leaving Shenanigans, a young woman chased after him
asking for a ride home. The girl seemed preppy and lived in a very
ritzy neighborhood. Though Bo didn't realize it at first, he had just
run into his childhood sweetheart: Hope Williams. Bo was a couple of
years older than Hope, who was 17 and finishing high school, and he
took delight in treating her like a child by calling her "Little
One." A competitive, but flirtatious, relationship surged from this.
To show Bo that she wasn't a child, Hope gave Bo the best kiss of his
life at the 4th of July Celebration's Kissing Booth. Though the
sparks flew, neither one would admit that they were attracted to each
other.
In the meantime, Bo and Marlena became good friends. She tried to resolve the animosity between him and Roman, with very little success. She only succeeded in finding out why they were so angry at each other. When they were growing up, their father Shawn was injured severely and Roman had to take control of the family while he recovered. In doing so, Roman had to deal with Bo's unruly teenage behavior. Bo still resented what he perceived as Roman's need to control his life. While he and Roman could be civil to each other, the resentment remained underneath.
Toward
the end of the summer, a curious incident occurred that finally
awakened Bo's feelings for Hope. One day while helping Marlena out at
her Teen Crisis Center, a teenager faked a suicide attempt that
caused Marlena to be late for a weekend trip to the mountains with
Roman. To help her out, Bo offered to drive her to the mountains to
meet Roman. When he and Marlena opened the door to Roman's cabin,
they found him kissing Hope. Bo's immediate reaction was to punch
Roman! As it turned out, it had been Hope who had kissed Roman
because she had a crush on him. Bo was angry at Hope for pulling such
a stunt. But while he disguised his anger as brotherly
overprotection, it was obvious that he was jealous. His jealousy
became even more apparent some weeks later at a party at the DiMera
mansion, when a whiney snob named Brett Fredericks hit on
Hope.
That
night, the party's hostess, Renée
DiMera, was murdered. A large
sum of money was offered to catch her killer, and Bo and Hope worked
together to find out who it was. They didn't succeed. Meanwhile, Bo
was hired by Neil Curtis to find out how Liz Chandler was doing in
prison. Earlier that year she had been convicted of attempted murder
and had been placed out of anyone's reach in a maximum security wing
at the state women's prison. To help a worried Neil Curtis (who
believed that Liz was being abused), Bo, Doug
Williams, Chris Kositchek,
and Danny Grant worked on a plan to infiltrate the prison. The result
was a scheme in which Bo and Danny pretended to be Hollywood film
producers Stan Elliot Resnick (that's Bo) and Chip Ellingwood (Danny,
of course), who were making a documentary on prisons. Hope
accidentally found out about their scheme and decided that she wanted
to tag along too. Bo warned her to stay away, but she went anyway and
pretended to be "Elliot's" wife. All that time, Bo and Hope had to
share a room together; Bo realized that he was developing feelings
for Hope at this time. The caper ended before things could get more
serious. But with their help, Bo, Hope, et al were able to get Neil
access to see Liz and uncover corruption among the prison's
guards.
At
around this time, Bo got on the bad side of Pete Jannings, a member
of the gang The Vipers, who was receiving therapy from Marlena. As a
result of a very silly argument about Marlena, Pete promised Bo that
he'd be sorry for messing with him. Not long after this, Bo was
hideously beat up by Pete's Viper friends after Bo tipped the police
on a crime that Pete was going to commit. He was found by Hope, who
dropped everything in order to take care of him while his wounds
healed. This was the first time that they recognized that they cared
for each other. Not long after this, they began dating.
Meanwhile,
Renée's murderer turned out to be serial. Worse yet, the fifth
victim was murdered by someone who looked exactly like Roman.
Furthermore, the murder was committed right in front of Marlena! Bo
vehemently denied that Roman could be capable of murder and defended
him to anyone who suggested otherwise. Despite his resentment, he
loved his brother. Even after an overwhelming amount of evidence and
witness accounts suggested that Roman was the killer, Bo believed he
was innocent. However, most of Salem thought he was guilty. Before
Roman could be convicted, Bo hatched a plan to get his brother out of
prison. Working with Alice Horton, Bo laced one of her doughnuts with
a drug that would induce a sort of heart attack. Alice delivered the
doughnut to Roman in jail, and he promptly suffered an attack that
left him barely breathing. Meanwhile, Bo snuck aboard the prison's
ambulance and knocked out the guard that was with Roman. Then, while
the ambulance was briefly stopped because of Alice had conveniently
stalled her car in the middle of the road, Bo quietly escaped with
Roman. No one was the wiser. And now, Roman could work on finding out
who was trying to frame him.
As
expected, Bo's secret involvement with Roman took a toll on his
budding relationship with Hope. After being stood up for their first
official date, Hope was so hurt that she wouldn't talk to Bo.
Fortunately, she forgave him. With her 18th birthday coming up, Hope
asked Bo to be her date at her party. Bo accepted, even though he was
not anxious to attend such a formal event. In spite of everything, he
and Hope had a good time and shared a kiss. To let Hope know just how
much she meant to him, Bo gave her a very special gift: a poetry book
given to him by his father just before he went into the Merchant
Marines. However, Hope was more excited about the expensive cashemere
jacket she'd gotten him and carelessly tossed the book aside. Bo was
so angry at her insensitivity that he stormed off. To try to forget
about Hope, he danced and kissed another girl named Janet Nelson; he
even invited her back to his apartment. He couldn't forget about
Hope, though, and told her to go home. When he returned to his place,
Bo found Hope there. She had realized the significance of his gift
and apologized for her behavior. Still hurt, Bo admitted that he
loved Hope. Elated at his admission, Hope also said that she loved
him and asked him to make love to her. They were on the bed taking
their clothes off when someone came pounding on the door. It was
Doug. A shirtless Bo hastily broke away from Hope and opened the
door. When Doug saw what Bo and Hope had been up to, he suffered a
heart attack. He barely survived. Because of the way it had happened,
Hope felt responsible for his heart attack and vowed to stop seeing
Bo.
