Note: I am not a fashion critic (and don't claim to be) but I
will try to describe some of the outfits characters are wearing
as they prepare to go to the dance. (I KNOW that's what a lot of
you are interested in). So, Linda or Barb...if you want to add...just
jump right in there. Also: I haven't been much a fan of the Brady
Black character, but Kyle Lowder does a "thumbs up" job
on this show. I think it's the first time we have seen his
humorous side. The scene with him and Nicole had me LOL! Best
Dressed Awards go to Chloe and Shawn.
The Dance, The Dance, The Dance!!! It's all about the
Dance!!!
Kate, is getting ready at Fay's house as she gets ready for the
dance. Fay second-guesses Kate's decision to attend as Kate talks
about how all the self-righteous snobs will be there, John,
Marlena, Bo & Hope and that they want to make her puke. (Hmmm,
Kate, didn't you USED to be one of the so-called self-righteous
snobs?) She tells Fay that Philip is the reason she is going and
Fay asks what she is really up to. Later, She assures Fay that
Philip will suffer a few moments of embarrassment, but he WILL
survive. Later, Kate has on her gawd-awful orange-yellow- brown
dress and her hair is a mess (up, like she wears it at the diner)
with a flower stuck in it for good measure. (Quite honestly, Fay
looks better in her bathrobe). Fay is troubled over Kate's plan.
Nicole is getting ready as Victor joins her and grabs for her.
She jumps up, not wanting him to mess up her hair or make up.
Personally, I think it was because she was afraid if he touched
her, her "dress" would just unravel and fall off. Well,
Nicole has changed her mind and decided to "go for some
color" as she isn't wearing that black number she had on the
other day. If you thought that was a slutty outfit, just wait.
This one is an electric blue halter, mid-drift, slits everywhere
outfit that would surely make the cover of Skank Wear Daily. (Very
inappropriate for a high school dance, IMO). She assures Victor
that she will keep an eye on Philip and Chloe, that is if she can
keep her eyes off his "handsome grandson" but she DOES
promise not to corrupt him (what a ho!) She promises Victor some
"adult playtime" when she gets home. Philip is also
getting ready, having flash backs of how beautiful Chloe looked
last year. He starts thinking about summer again and gets upset
that Chloe wouldn't tell him what she is doing.
Victor and Nicole join him and he is horsing to get going. They
question him about his relationship with Chloe and he mentions
that Chloe has plans for the summer to make money, but won't tell
him what. Nicole says that sometimes the secretive types are the
ones you have to watch out for. Victor tells Philip he is so
proud of Philip for being protective of Chloe and makes him a
deal. If he promises to pull up his grades next year, he will let
him go on the school trip. (He's only doing this because Chloe
isn't going). And if he does pull up his grades, he won't
interfere with him and Chloe anymore. Philip tells him he will
think about the trip and thanks Victor for being such a great dad.
Nicole gets a bit misty as they hug and mentions her own dad.
Philip and Nicole leave to pick up their dates. After they are
gone, Victor says that Kate's plan won't work and that Chloe
won't get her hooks into his soon either.
Over at the Brady House...Shawn comes downstairs in a nice purple
shirt (even looks like he got a haircut) and Hope helps him with
his tie. She looks nice in a rose colored halter dress with a
large collar. He comments on her new dress and she tells him that
she is a chaperone for the dance. He is shocked, as he didn't
know this. She jokingly tells him that she will be looking over
his shoulder and this makes him even more nervous about her going.
Jan, Jason and Mimi pull up outside (much to Jason's dismay).
After Mimi goes inside, Jason questions Jan about what they are
up to. She doesn't tell him but does tell him that when it is all
over, Chloe will be embarrassed. Mimi (who is dressed in a
pinkish/rose shimmery dress, nice) comes in chattering. Hope
excuses herself but can tell that Mimi is upset. Shawn asks what
did he do NOW? He compliments her and says they can now go over
and pick up Belle. She goes off on a tangent about being a tag
along she doesn't plan on holding the ring box when he proposes
and will NOT be there in the delivery room. Well, this adds even
more to Shawn's nervous state and wants to know what she is
talking about. She tells him that she and Belle had a fight and
that she isn't going with them. He tries to get her to change her
mind, but she won't. She is going with Jason and Jan instead. (Earth
to Mimi HELLO? you won't be a third wheel for Shawn and Belle,
but WILL for Jan and Jason? I'd choose S&B, at least they
would be NICE to you). Shawn worries about her hanging so much
around Jan. She tells Shawn for the umpteenth time, she isn't
going with them and she doesn't want to see Chloe before OR after
the dance and storms out. After she is gone, Hope asks
whatsupwither? Shawn doesn't know, but Hope assures him that he
did nothing wrong and encourages him to have a good time. Cute
exchange between them as he still doesn't want her to go. He
finally says she can stay for half an hour. She says two, so they
finally compromise on an hour.
Back in the car, Jason speeds along as Jan tells him that she
paid too much for her dress (although we don't see it) for her to
get killed on the way to the dance before anyone sees it! They
both berate Mimi (who is now crying) for making them late to the
dance. Jan continues to rag on Chloe and Belle as Jason wants to
know what is going to happen. Mimi is really feeling guilty now
and says that she will end up losing all her friends over this.
Jan asks who needs Belle, the twink when she can have her, the
bitch goddess of Salem High. Jan promises Jason that they will
ditch Mimi at the dance and they will have fun after.
Over at the Black Penthouse. John and Brady are also getting
ready. Brady tells John that he is expecting trouble at the dance
as they talk about what happened last year. He tells his dad that
he thinks Jan and Mimi are up to something to embarrass Chloe. (Sorry,
but I just don't remember what they were wearing. Brady is
dressed and ready in a suit, but John still has on what he had on
the other day, I think). He explains that after helping Belle
with her hair, Marlena wasn't feeling well and went to bed. Brady
is glad that John will be there to help stop any trouble. Brady
talks about Victor disapproves of Philip dating Chloe and John
gets the idea that maybe Brady is interested in her? Brady gets
all flustered and denies it, saying that Chloe is just a kid and
HE needs a woman. (My, my Brady, thou protest too much). He and
John decide to head to the kitchen for ice cream and (as John
says) "suck it all down before the girls get their hands on
it."
Upstairs, Chloe and Belle are getting ready. Belle is a nervous
wreck and is having trouble putting on her lipstick. Chloe says
it is because Belle is nervous about her first official kiss.
Chloe talks about her first kiss with Philip and other assorted
girl talk. Belle says it sounds like Chloe is in love, which she
quickly denies and tries to change the subject. She says that all
love stories end in tragedy (and uses Titanic as an example). She
points out John and Isabella's relationship as an example. She
says that even Nancy's situation ended in tragedy because she (Chloe)
was born. She says that she never wants to fall in love. Chloe
says she wishes she could be normal and Belle says she isn't AB-normal,
just unique. Chloe looks for her pantyhose and can't find them
anywhere. Belle reminds her that they left some bags downstairs.
So Chloe rushes down (in her slip, I guess it's a slip, not sure,
but it is really skimpy). While down there, Brady returns and
watches her (in slow motion, none-the-less) and looks as if he is
in a trance. Ha-ha, Brady, is your ice cream melted yet? As she
heads back upstairs, she stumps her toe and he continues to
watch, without speaking. She finally notices him and is
embarrassed and rushes upstairs. After she leaves, he groans
"oh, boy" and falls/flips backwards over the sofa.
After Brady gets up and composes himself, John returns to the
living room as Philip and Nicole arrive. John gets one look at
Nicole's "outfit" and tells her she looks lovely. As in
a daze, also tells Philip he looks "lovely" as well (ROFL).
Philip notes that Brady's eyes look as if they are going to pop
out of his head. Nicole comes on to Brady (sniffing his cologne)
as John butts in between them. The exchange of the day comes next.
John reminds Nicole that she should check Brady's ID, he isn't
old enough to drink yet. Nicole: But, he IS old enough to vote.
Brady: And I'm old enough to go to war, so, I THINK I can handle
a woman. (ROFLMAO!!) John rushes upstairs ot get ready and check
on Marlena before leaving. (Sorry, but I don't buy that. If it
were MY daughter and she were going on her first date, I'd be
down there on my deathbed taking pictures). Shawn and Hope arrive
as Philip calls for the girls and they head down. Belle is first.
I don't like her outfit at all. It is gold Capri-type pants with
a gold wrap-around top. (Not very flattering on her, IMO). Chloe
gets the "best dressed" award in a long flowing light
blue strapless gown. (Blue is definitely her color.) Shawn and
Philip are both speechless. Hope has to re mind them to give them
their flowers. (Funny how both girls flowers perfectly match
their outfits, even though the guys didn't know what they were
wearing). John returns (fast dresser) and is surprised to find
Hope there. He explains about Marlena and she explains that Bo is
working. Everyone heads out the door as Hope comments on how
sweet they look. Hope tells John that since Marlena isn't going,
that will give them a chance to talk, it's fate. He offers his
arm and says "shall we" as they head out as well. John
looks back inside as he shuts the door, with an unsure look on
his face and the credits roll.

TUESDAY, JULY 3, 2001

Getting to and at the Last Blast.
John and Hope drive in his SUV to the dance. He calls Marlena to
see how she's feeling and tells Hope that Marlena is still sick (he
just saw her before he left, did he expect a miracle within 5
minutes?). Hope asks again about Princess Gina and he reminds
her, once she knows, she can't go
back.
Kate drives while her dress unravels and her car starts making
noise. We next see her kicking the car, now dead, complaining
about her cheap shoes. A car pulls up nearby and she looks a
little fearfully at the driver who approaches her. It's Roman to
the rescue. She tears into him for scaring her and tells him to
leave her alone, which it appears he's going to do as he walks
away. Of course he doesn't and the two verbally spar until she
tells him she's heading for the dance at the high school. Small
world, so is he (more chaperones then teens there!)
The teen fab 4's (TF4) arrive at the dance hearing oohs and ahhhs.
Philip wishes Chloe happy one year anniversary. Jan and Jason
arrive and we see her long blue gown. Shawn takes Belle's hand
and they walk to another area of the dance. He again tells her
how great she looks and she reminds him he already told her she
looked "wow" at the penthouse and how he looks pretty
"wow" himself. Kevin's live camera pans the room and
the video is shown on his big screen. Susan joins Kevin (who
needs a new battery in the camera already) as he complains she's
late. As she starts to head off for another battery, he tells her
how nice she looks, brightening her spirits. Some rude teens
comment loudly how the camera adds pounds so that Susan hears (man
I'd love to be chaperone there and give those kids an attitude
lesson!)
Jason is anxious to go to his car for a drink and he and Jan try
to tell Mimi how much drinking does for you (yeah, drink and
drive and you're dead) which at least Mimi knows and tells them.
Other teens watch Belle and Chloe on the big screen and wonder
which will be Queen, Belle in her royal gold or Chloe. Kevin
overhears Mimi and Jan talking (Mimi's trying to talk her out of
exposing Chloe) and she turns on him, accusing him of
eavesdropping and then looking down her dress. When Jason
returns, she tells him that and he starts harassing Kevin until
Mimi tells him that Jan was lying and says she doesn't know why
she hangs out with them. She returns with an empty bottle that
she had found and emptied from Jason's car. He angrily goes off
for more as Mimi and Jan argue about their plan. We see the TF4
dancing in the background. Shawn requests a slow song and tells
Belle it reminds him of her. The song is "I'll Be" by
Edwin McCain. (Thanks to whomever it was that emailed the title
to me :-)
The Salem High guys drool over Nicole. She quickly dismisses them
after telling them she's older and to call her Mrs. Robinson, LOL.
She asks Brady why do guys always admire her physical traits and
not her brains or personality (well, duh! Kate can always lend
her a dress and maybe they would ;-) Brady reminds her Victor
sent them to listen, not talk.
Chloe spots Brady (and Nicole) and figures Victor sent them to
spy on them. Philip's not worried after what his father said
earlier and they dance. She feels sorry that Brady has to stand
on the side lines watching everyone dance, not knowing if he will
ever be able to himself. Philip gets a little angry/jealous that
she's thinking about Brady as we see Brady watching them like a
hawk as Nicole picks up on his interest for Chloe. Jan knows
Mimi's sore spots and comments how Belle's dancing with Shawn and
she's not.
John and Hope arrive and he finds a quiet parking spot. She tries
another approach of getting the information from him. If she
knows what happened, she might be able to deal with the situation
better and make more time for him to be with JT. For example if
she and Bo went away for the weekend, his godfather could babysit
him. John asks how she can use their son as a bargaining tool and
she denies doing that as the two's eyebrows get a work out. She
tells him she's ready to hear now, but he's not ready to tell her.
(why is she so adamant about hearing about the sub sex?, does she
want "details?")
Mr. Woods asks the TF4 about their summer plans and Chloe still
refuses to tell them what she's going to do for $$ for music
school as it's too embarrassing. Chloe changes the subject by
taking Philip off to dance and Belle sees Mimi and goes to talk
with her. Belle convinces Mimi she only wants what's best for her
and Shawn agrees as he joins them. Mimi hugs Belle, telling her
she loves them and if anything happens tonight she doesn't mean
to hurt them. Belle clues in on that and demands to know what
Mimi means. Mimi denies anything will happen.
Susan videos as Kevin announces the dance contest. Off camera
Kevin asks Susan to be his partner and she refuses and walks away.
Later he starts singing "You and Me against the world"
to her until she agrees out of embarrassment. She tells him
everyone was laughing at them and he acknowledges that, saying
they survived it too, didn't they?
Nicole asks Brady to dance with her and he agrees to. The rude
teens suggest going to the Hudson Street Diner after the dance
and after they walk away, Philip tells his friends that he's got
to get his mom out of there before they arrive.
Not to worry Philip as Kate and Roman arrive. (Why is Roman a
chaperone to a dance where he doesn't have any kids at the
school?) John and Hope go into the dance and are greeted by their
children. The kids go on about JT and John gets uncomfortable,
but tells Belle it's because she's his baby and look how
beautiful and grown up she is. This leads to hugs with both
parents (how many kids would do that in front of their peers at a
dance?). Belle pulls Shawn into dance to a favorite song of hers
and Hope tells John she will honor her promise and have him a
part of JT's life. He will honor her promise and tell her
whatever he remembers.
Jan pulls Mimi into a back room and shows her some slides she
never saw before and wants Mimi to be the one to put them in the
projector (c'mon Mimi, get tough and tell Jan to do it herself).
Philip and Chloe are having fun dancing as he spots Kate and
Roman enter. He's furious seeing her and what she looks like. Jan
belittles Mimi and tells her to remove the last five slides in
the projector and to put them in. Of course Mimi agrees. Brady
and Nicole dance as she helps him. Once they get talking he does
pretty good. Chloe spots Brady and Nicole dancing and watches
them. Belle tears up watching them dance as well as Shawn
comments how great that is and how great the night is.
Jan keeps Kevin distracted as Mimi changes the slides, but Brady
sees Mimi in action as he looks concerned as the credits roll..
