Little Johnny is rushed to hospital, Bo is held against his
will, Hattie visits Dr. Rolfe, John & Marlena argue some more and
Brady puts his knife to good use.
Episode #8909
Directed by Randy Robbins
Tape Date: 9/18/00
At The Hospital
Hope rushes Johnny to the emergency room. Dr. Maxwell finally arrives
and takes over. Hope blames herself for Johnny's problems, citing the
drinking while she was Princess Gina. Lexie tries to console her, and
flashes back to a conversation with Stef when Marlo died. She swears
if Stef had any hand in this entire affair she will cut him out of
her life. (And how long will it takes Lexie to accept what she
already knows as fact?) Dr. Maxwell comes out, saying he has to
operate, Lexie says she will assist. Hope takes Isaac, tells Shawn to
go call Grampa Shawn as he will know how to reach Bo.
At The Penthouse
Marlena is dressing as quickly as she can, John starts sniping at
her, but she insists on accompanying him to the hospital. She wants
to leave a note for Belle, but John says call Belle & Brady from
the hospital. They continue arguing in the car as John takes a
shortcut (always seemed the hospital was so close to their
digs...guess not) thru a bad neighborhood. Of course they run out of
gas, and the auto club refuses to come because of the late hour and
bad neighborhood. John furiously grabs the phone and threatens the
person on the other end. He decides to try to siphon gas from a
nearby parked truck. The argument continues, (the recent episode
under the bedcovers is very much forgotten) as John tells Marlena to
"make yourself useful - say a prayer". She brings up Brady and the
fact he carries a knife. She saw it on his dresser. John accuses her
of searching Brady's belongings. She refers to families in Colorado,
whose sons shot their classmates. And when the police came to search
their rooms, weapons were found in very plain sight. This takes John
back a bit, but John says he, too, carries a knife....it comes in
handy at times - as he just cut the hose to the windshield wipers to
use to siphon the gas. Just then the auto club arrives.
At Dr. Steiner's Office
Rolf is playing with a Frankenstein mask, muttering that Bart always
calls him Dr. Frankenstein (very apt title), so on Halloween he is
really going to show him! He puts on the mask, as Hattie comes in,
and frightens her. He makes up a silly excuse for the mask, then
proceeds to scold her for not losing more weight. She tells him how
much she jogs and how much water she drinks, and he says,
sure......to wash down all the donuts you are still eating. She
mournfully replies she is down to just one a day! LOLOL. Rolf begins
to try and bolster Hattie's low self-esteem, talks about the inner
beauty which will outshine Marlena's. Hattie says her "wrong side of
the tracks" knowledge and speech cannot match Marlena's, and Rolf
says she has to work on it. He gives her pills to speed up the weight
loss, and she says she is putting herself completely into his hands.
(ooh, big mistake, Hattie)
In Ireland
As Jen and Abby hide in the alley, they see the two thugs attack Bo
and take him into an adjoining building. We see Bo hanging like a
sack of potatoes with a rope around his waist - it gives way and he
falls to the floor. He appears to be in some sort of pit. Ian comes
along and spots Jen and Abby, and wants to know what she is doing
there. They converse a bit (Jen's Irish accent is back - she
evidently is using it only on the locals) and he hires her back. Jen
returns to the pub. Inside, Abby is doing homework as Ian comes over
to the table. She blurts out about seeing a man hurt. Jen covers,
calling the guy a troublemaker that was taken care of. Ian takes Abby
to the park (even though it is dark outside -!!!!) and Jen goes back
out to the alley to spy. Bo comes to and jabbers with the 2 men, who
are playing checkers. He begs them to let him out, saying his son is
to be christened, his family needs him, his father would not be too
happy with this. They just laugh, as they intend to let him stew for
a bit, and realize the error of his ways, before they release him.
Jen, watching through a window, says aloud Gran would never forgive
her if she did not help Bo, and why did he have to come there to
interfere in her life.
At The Railroad Tracks
Belle cannot free her foot, and Brady finally realizes she is not
joking around. He tries unsuccessfully to free her foot as the train
comes closer and closer. (For all the conversation, that train must
have been moving at 2 miles per hour, the engineer would have to had
seen them, and could have easily stopped the train). He brings out
THE KNIFE, cuts a pulley, and extracts an iron bar to try and move
the track. Belle still cannot pull her foot out, and begins to panic.
The train is nearly there, and as she begins to pray, he realizes his
hand is covered with oil, and he gets more, slathers her foot,
finally frees it. The train arrives, big closeup of the side of the
train and ....freeze frame. Fadeout.

Johnny undergoes surgery, John & Marlena find Belle and
Brady and take them to the hospital, Jen takes food to
Bo.
Episode #8910
Directed by Phil Sogard
Tape Date: 9/19/00
Brady pulls Belle out of the track and the train passes by. They both
lie unconscious in the area next to the track. Belle has something on
her foot (oil or blood?). Brady wakes up and realizes Belle is
unconscious. Her foot is fine and he tosses her tennis shoe away. He
realizes the back of her head is bashed in though, so he picks her up
and carries her to help. John is a jerk to both the road emergency
guy and Marlena. While waiting for the gas to be put in, John calls
Hope and she tells him about the hole in Johnny's heart and how he's
in surgery. Hope is crying so hard it's difficult to talk as John
assures her all will be okay. Now underway again, he finally updates
Marlena as to what Hope told him on the phone.. We see Brady come out
of the bushes onto the roadside holding Belle and trying to flag down
help. Marlena sees what looks like an accident and John refuses to
stop, telling her to call 911. We see Brady come out of the bushes
again (?) carrying Belle and this time John and Marlena stop. She
wonders what Brady did to Belle while he tells her they have to get
Belle to the hospital and don't have time to talk. John drives as
Marlena climbs in the back seat with Brady and Belle.
Shawn can't reach his grandparents and Hope is beside herself. (where
are Doug and Julie? We didn't hear about them leaving town and Julie
was there the other day) Lexie assists in Johnny's surgery. They find
more damage than they expected while operating. The specialist
arrives to assist and Lexie is relieved and leaves. Shawn comforts
his mom. Brenda (who was watching Isaac) reports to Lexie that
Isaac's sleeping in the lounge. Lex tells Hope that Johnny's holding
on, but how there was more damage than expected. The doctor is an
expert, but Lexie doesn't give her false hopes of the prognosis. Hope
wants to go to the chapel and Lexie tells Brenda where they'll be.
While Hope is praying, she tells God that if he needs another Angel
in heaven, that Johnny is an angel. She doesn't want him to suffer,
but is thankful for every minute she's had with him and realizes that
he was given to them for a purpose. Shawn breaks down and tells God
he's prayed so many time for a sibling. He needs Johnny as much as
Johnny needs him. Hope thanks God for two wonderful sons. Hope and
Shawn cry together and light a candle while Lexie prays for God to
give them strength. Shawn goes to talk to Lexie and she tells him
that he and Johnny will always be brothers, no matter what. She tells
him he can be an honorary brother to Isaac too (uh, how about REAL
brother to Isaac). The surgeons are not very optimistic about the
surgery's outcome, saying it's the worst they've ever seen. Shawn
stays in the chapel and prays after Hope and Lexie return to the
hallway.
Bo remembers his conversations with Hope and Pop while in the pit. In
their room, Jen watches as Abby says her prayers that her daddy won't
forget her. Jen evades questions from Abby about if Jack's going to
return to them. Privately, Jen tears up saying it was Jack's decision
that things are this way. She worries about Bo and is torn what would
happen to Abby if something happened to her while helping him, but
leaves to go get some food for him at least. She brings him some
bread, water and cheese and talks to him without being seen, using
her Irish accent. Instead of being grateful, Bo lashes out at her for
not helping him out. She tells him to stop snooping around and to go
home. Jen criticizes him for being so far from home while he's got a
sick baby and he wonders how she knew that. Oops. He interrogates her
and says her voice sounds familiar. Jen panics and tosses the food
down to him and runs. She (loudly) thanks Mrs. McGowan for watching
Abby (a sound sleeper apparently) and worries about Bo and thinking
about Gran. She tells Abby as soon as they're (Salem) ready to find
out, they're going back to Salem. Bo chows down the food Jen brought,
remember Hope's threat to kick his butt if he missed Johnny's
baptism. He apologizes out loud to Hope and said they'll have to
delay the baptism.
Enroute to the hospital, Marlena asks Brady what he did to Belle
(who's still unconscious). John hands the cell phone to Brady and
tells him to call the hospital so they can be ready for them. They
rush Belle in on a guerney and Brenda tells them she took the call
and Dr. James will see Belle in Cubicle 1. John watches Marlena rush
off with Belle and Hope rounds the corner. She's worried about
Johnny's not been baptized yet and asks John if he'd stand up with
her in Bo's absence if Johnny survives the surgery. She doesn't want
to delay it any longer as the credits roll.

Austin & Greta have humility, Philip climbs a trellis,
Kate & Victor make plans and Roman pays Nicole an official
visit.
Episode #8911
Directed by Roger Inman
Tape Date: VARIOUS
In That Garden.......
The King of Hearts asks Greta if she is ready to carry the Messenger
child. He rants on about love and benevolence, and says "What we
suffer for is a test of love" and holds up a crystal prism. Greta
claims she is not worthy, and the K of H makes some reference to
traveling thru gorges, meadows and reaching the ocean whereby the
dumping of treasures is mentioned. He then says his ride is there and
he is "beamed up" (ala Star Trek's Scotty, LOLOLOL) to what looks
like a space ship. Ausdum - sorry, Austin says they must be true to
who they are. The earth shakes, rumbles and up comes a marble
pedestal with an envelope on it. Greta opens it to find "humility".
One more virtue earned. (Sincerely hope this ENDS the "Greta carrying
the messenger child"). A big wind comes up, hands encased in red
gloves appear shuffling cards. The voice of the King of Hearts tells
them to pick one. As Greta takes one, the rest disappear and the
pedestal recedes into the ground. She reads the card aloud - they
have earned another rest, which they will need in order to accomplish
the next task. (And if you believe the "rest" thing, you are as
gullible as these
two).
At The Wesley Home...
Chloe never saw Philip and is back in her room. She flashes back to
her conversation with Nancy about Philip and contemplates calling
him. Philip is at the playground basketball court, and thinking of
Chloe. His cell phone rings, and it is Chloe wanting to talk to him.
He races over, climbs the ivy vines to her bedroom window, suggesting
he come inside her room. At first she closes the window, but then
opens it again after he tells her he won't come in. She tells him
about confiding in Nancy about Philip's serenade. At first he seems
upset, but really does not mind. As he reaches in to try and take off
her glasses to see her gorgeous eyes, he falls to the ground. He is
o.k. (amazing), she comes down, and tells him what she wanted to do
when he sang to her. She pulls him into a big kiss.
In Italy.........
Sami is back at the villa (my goodness, just a day in the hospital
for all those injuries). Brandon helps her into bed, and Sami asks
Angela to get her some soup so she can thank Brandon privately for
saving her life, assuring Angela he is just her friend and she loves
Austin in Salem. Angela passionately kisses Brandon before leaving.
Sami thanks Brandon for saving her, and tells him how she feels. How,
when facing death before she felt alone, but this time she had her
best friend with her. They express love for each other, but then she
says she loves him as her best friend. Brandon tells her he feels the
same (liar) and then about Kate & Victor being at the restaurant
when he brought her in, drinking champagne and seemingly celebrating
something. Sami figures it was her "death". (Amazing how these
"lightbulbs" come on).
Back at the villa, Victor & Kate discuss Lucas giving up custody
of Will to Sami. Kate does not think it will stop Sami, but Victor
thinks Sami will accept....a bird in the hand, etc. Kate mentions how
Lucas seems changed, and Victor realizes he is drinking again. He
guess Lucas probably told Nicole the whole Franco story when drunk.
Kate goes to the restaurant to "chat" with Angela. Kate puts on quite
an act, as she preys on Anglea's sympathies, insinuating Victor
mistreats her. She then gives Angela some very motherly advice about
Brandon, telling her what a skirt chaser Cassanova Brandon is back in
Salem. A real user. Angela inquires how Brandon could be using her
and Kate replies, " Has Brandon been asking a lot of questions about
your old boyfriends?" (Ah, Angela finally gets a clue)
Back In Salem........
Roman shows up at Nicole's door, flashing his badge. They trade
delicious insults back and forth. He asks about Franco's murder and
what she really knows. Nicole dances around the truth, mentioning her
"article". Roman asks her then what exactly is her "theory" about the
murder. The phone rings, and it is Victor. Nicole goes in another
room, saying it is a business call. Victors asks about Philip and
Nicole asks when the troops will be home. He says soon, and she
abruptly hangs up on him. She thinks for a minute, then hits upon
aplan to deal with Roman. She pretends to fear living in the Kiriakis
mansion, claiming she is afraid Lucas may kill her! Just then Lucas
walks in, saying "Kill you....what the hell are you talking about?"
Fadeout.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19,
2000**
Salem Univ. Hospital treats Johnny and Belle and Sami
prepares to head back to Salem.
Episode #8912
Directed by Phil Sogard
Tape Date: 9/12/00
Welcome Home Lucas (Not)
Thinking Nicole is telling Roman of his beating her, Nicole covers by
telling Lucas he didn't hear the whole conversation and she was
telling Roman that he would kill her if she said anything. Roman says
he would have had the truth out of Nicole about what really happened
to Franco Kelly (yeah, right Roman!)if Lucas hadn't gotten home. In
Italy, Sami and Brandon plan to connect Kate and Victor with Sami's
mishaps. Aha, Sami realizes the call forwarding may be the key. She
calls Lucas (on his cell phone) and when he answers it, tells him she
knows he's in Italy with Kate and Victor and threatens to call the
police. He saves her the trouble and hands his phone to Roman. Lucas
grabs Nicole and pulls her out of the room to talk while Roman's on
the phone. Henderson brings Will in just as Sami asks about him. She
tells Will she'll be home tomorrow and they'll go to Salem Place for
his Halloween costume. (When she told him she would be getting on a
big plane to get home I was waiting for Will to say he just got off
one, but she talked so fast and didn't give him time to say it.)
Roman offers to pick her up at the airport, but she tells him
grabbing a cab is easier. Lucas sends Will off for chocolate chips
cookies with Henderson (does the kid eat anything nutritional?
Nothing like a sugar rush before bedtime, right?) and then orders
Roman to leave. (hey, say hi to your grandson Roman!) Roman isn't
sure Nicole wants him to leave yet, but Lucas doesn't give Roman an
option.
After Roman leaves, Nicole demands Lucas tell her everything. Doesn't
take much persuasion as he tells her about Italy and then how he shot
Franco to protect his mother from Franco. He then mumbles something
about Sami going off the cliff and Nicole picks up on that.
Italy
Kate and Angela continue their interrogation of each other. Angela
has Kate's number (atta girl!) and doesn't believe what she's saying.
BUT, she thinks KATE'S in love with Brandon (ROFLMAO) and going
through a mid-life crisis. Kate laughs at that and tells Angela to
open her eyes. If Brandon is so in love with her (Angela), why is he
still with Sami. Angela leaves, threatening to tell Brandon
everything she said and doesn't want anything more to do with
Kate.
Sami is packing and determined to go home. Brandon can't talk her out
of it, but threatens to marry Angela if he has to. After her
encounter with Kate, Angela returns to Brandon and Sami (without the
soup, whatsupwithat ;-) and sees a suitcase being packed and wants to
know what's going on. Brandon tells her Sami has to return home and
being she's not well enough to travel alone, he's going with her, but
would be back in a few days tops. Naw, Angela decides to go to the
U.S. with him and save the RT airfare for the wedding.
Salem University Hospital
While Brady waits outside the hospital for news of Belle, Hope briefs
John on Johnny's condition and he tells her about Belle being in the
hospital as well. The two hug to comfort each other when Marlena
returns from Belle's side to find them embracing. That goes over big.
Hope sees Marlena and embraces her too and they both hope the best
for each other's child. Marlena (and John) rush off to be with Belle
while Hope returns to Lexie and Shawn. Hope tells them about Belle
being in an accident and Shawn gets very emotional, especially after
hearing Belle's doctor is a neurosurgeon. He tells them he and Belle
were just working on Mimi's house the other day and fearless Belle
was on the roof. They had talked about doing another habitat house
together over Thanksgiving. He wonders what happened and hugs his
mom.
The waiting is driving Hope crazy and she vents a little about how Bo
left with so much going on. A nurse runs into the OR and Lexie goes
to investigate. It was a Code Blue on another patient Lexie returns
to tell Hope.
Dr. James tells J&M he's all but ruled out that Belle has any
spinal injuries, but she has a depressed skull fracture. They're
going to do a CT Scan next. Marlena assure John, who's ready to fly
in another doctor if need be, that Dr. James is the best there is.
Brady overhears Marlena tell John that he (Brady) tried to kill Belle
after John mentions it was an accident. While John knows it was just
an accident, Marlena demands a police investigation. (I can't believe
no one insisted on an explanation of HOW Belle was injured for
treatment purposes if nothing else). Dr. James returns to tell them
Belle won't have any paralysis or speech problems, but there are some
complications. Belle has some swelling in her brain and Dr. James
recommends drugs to reduce it. There are some risks, but John tells
him to do it. John goes to radiology to get a copy of the cat scan
results (they'll just give them to anyone?).
Shawn runs into Brady at the soda machine and asks what happened to
Belle. Brady doesn't answer and Shawn gets even more upset as Brady
walks away. Shawn finds Marlena alone and reassures her that Belle is
tough. He reminds her about a winter 8 years ago when the flu was big
and everyone in school got a flu shot from the nurse. Belle
volunteered to show everyone how it was no big deal and Marlena
smiles and wipes away tears as he recalls the incident. He tells her
how he prayed for Belle and knows it will be okay. Marlena gives him
a big hug and tells him how he's been such a good friend to her
daughter. She tells him she'll pray for his brother too.
With test results in hand, John finds Brady back by the soda machine.
He asks what happened and Brady is upset John didn't ask how he was
first. John reminds him Belle's unconscious and demands to know what
happened. Brady cops a 'tude and walks away with John in pursuit.
John returns to Marlena and she tells him the drugs didn't work and
they're taking Belle up to surgery (Brady hears from the background.
They didn't give the drugs much time to work, did they?). (Is John
going to assist in the surgery now?)
Hope sees a nurse showing the surgeon just coming out of surgery
something (test results?). He glances quickly up at Hope across the
room and looks back down again at the report glumly as the nurse
shakes her head. (wouldn't that be like not talking about patients in
the cafeteria and elevator? By the way, there was actually a sign in
my hospital's elevator reminding staff not to discuss patients in the
elevator).
Outside the Kiriakis mansion, Roman calls the station and checks out
for the day. Inside Nicole grills Lucas. He tells her everything was
an accident. She tells him an "accident" is throwing a red sock into
a load of white ones. Lucas threatens Nicole if she tells anyone
about this; she WILL be on his hit list and struts out of the room to
call Mommy, cellphone to cellphone (glad I don't have THEIR phone
bill). He tells Kate about Sami's call and Roman being there. Will
rushes in with a huge cookie and Kate tells him hi. Lucas holds Will
while Kate tells him he has to give Sami custody of Will. He tells
her never and hangs up and hugs his son as the credits roll.

NOTE FROM LINDA
We've gotten MANY emails from you all wondering how come Abby is the
right age while Belle, Brady, Shawn and Philip are now teens. Perhaps
being out of the country saved her from Rapid Aging Syndrome (RAS).
Maybe it was that Salem water or tea? We don't know either folks,
guess we should just be happy there will still be a kid in Salem,
haha.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20,
2000**
Thumbs up performances to both Lauren Koslow (Kate) and
Kristian Alfonso (Hope).
Episode #8913
Directed by Phil Sogard
Tape Date: 9/22/00
Kate's Academy Award Performance
Kate is holding the Codicil to Victor's Last Will and Testament, as
she weighs her options. She is thinking back to telling Lucas he must
give up custody of Will as Victor enters. He announces that they are
returning to Salem and she informs him that she isn't going and says
that Sami has won and is sure that Roman will be waiting at the
airport with handcuffs upon their arrival. Victor asks what about
their relationship. She goes off into a tirade and talks about when
he had his stroke, she stood by him day and night. She was loyal and
faithful to him every step of the way. In return, she received a slap
in the face. In an act of rage, she rakes everything off the table to
make a point. She asks if he is like all other older gentlemen and
asks if he wants someone fresh and new and accuses him of not loving
her anymore. He tells her that they belong together for the sake of
their son. Eventually he asks her to come home with him, as he holds
out his hand - she hesitantly takes it. Was Kate being truthful - or
was it all an act? You decide. Either way Lauren Koslow shines in
these scenes. If you are a fan of Lauren/Kate, you don't want to miss
these scenes...lots of dialogue, lots of emotion.
Brandon and Sami's Performance
Kate's acting isn't the only performance going on. As Sami packs to
return home, Brandon again sweet talks her and tells her that he
loves her. Angela arrives and Brandon advises Sami it is time to act
her heart out. Angela is packed and ready to join them on their trip
to the U.S. She wants to live with Brandon, but he objects, leaving
Sami to offer her a place to stay. Angela is so touched, she asks
Sami to be her Maid of Honor. Sami accepts and Angela is thrilled.
Sami reinforces Angela, telling her that her Brandon is trustworthy
and loves her very much. Brandon tells Angela that he was only
interested in the tape to clear Roberto's name. They convince her
that releasing the tape will also result in making that horrible Kate
Roberts suffer. You can tell that Angela likes the idea of that.
Little Johnny's Swan Song
In Salem, all the action takes place at the hospital. John and
Marlena find out that the drugs didn't work on Belle so they rush her
off to surgery to try and relieve the swelling of her brain. Brady
hears from the background and rushes off to be alone. Shawn finds him
on the rooftop and again demands to know what happened to Belle.
Shawn talks about how angry he was at one time and can identify with
him. Brady gets offended that a "dumbass punk" like Shawn would offer
him advice and storms off. Marlena asks John why Brady won't tell
them what happened, which leads to another argument as John defends
Brady. Marlena informs him that if Belle survives, she never wants
Brady near her again. The doctor returns and tells them that there is
a good chance for full recovery, but they have induced a coma and are
pumping her full of drugs to reduce the swelling. Marlena asks John
to hold her as she cries. She tells him to go and check on little
Johnny as she goes to the chapel and prays for strength. She prays
for Belle and for Johnny as well. She comments that it isn't fair for
the innocent children that have to suffer for their sins.
Meanwhile, Hope and Lexie are together when the doctor tells Hope
that the baby is holding on, but if he survives the surgery, he is
not strong enough to recover. Hope falls to pieces, but then regains
her strength and talks about how strong the Bradys and Hortons are
and that they will never give up. Brenda brings out Issac and Hope
asks to hold him. She cuddles and kisses him as Lexie watches.
Thanking Lexie, she tells her that energized her. Lexie offers
encouragement and Hope asks her if she would return to the OR to
observe. This would make her feel like a little piece of her was with
him. Of course, Lexie agrees. John comes by and Hope gives him an
update, telling him that she is optimistic, despite what the doctor
said. She asks him to stand in for Bo during the Baptism and he
agrees. She tells him that she is grateful for all he has done. In
the OR, the doctors are having a rough time with the surgery. The
baby's heart rate drops and then he flatlines as Lexie watches in
horror. They try to revive him, but end up losing him. Lexie leaves
the room and falls to pieces.
As she leaves the chapel, Marlena finds John talking to a priest. He
informs Marlena that Johnny isn't doing well at all and about Hope
asking him to stand in for the Baptism. John tells Marlena that he
needs to talk with Hope (to tell her the truth?) and wants Marlena
with him. After they leave, Brady wanders into the chapel and at the
altar, says that he doesn't get this whole "God thing". He asks if
God is so loving, how come bad things still happen to good people. He
tells God that he is doing a lousy job and refuses to pray and
leaves. Back in the waiting area, Shawn has rejoined his Mom as John
and Marlena also arrive. Lexie comes in and tells them the bad news.
Hope falls apart, right into John's arms as Marlena, Shawn and Lexie
all are in shock. Hope sobs uncontrollably in John's arms as the
credits roll.
