Stefano realises that Lexie has let John know he is there & disappears before John, Abe & Rene get to her. They search the grounds but cannot find him. John decides to return to the ball & force the couples who are dressed like Stefano & Marlena to unmask themselves. As Lexie questions one couple they tell her a daughter should be more loyal & warn her that Stefano punishes those who would keep her from him. As John, Kristen, Abe & Lexie serach the chateau for Marlena the alarm goes off. They race to the crown room to find the crown is gone. They cannot understand how it disappeared as Rene was the only one who could turn it off.
Marlena senses that Stefano is worried about something but does not know why. He takes her outside but she wants to return to the ball (so she can pass her letter to Belle to someone). Stefano agrees to if she dances with him, which she does. When Stefano leaves to take care of something, Marlena sees her last window of opportunity to escape & slips into the garden unseen by Paul. Stefano meets with Rene who hands him the stolen crown.
Hope & Bo are shocked to discover that Franco has organised a surprise engagemnt party for them. Alice, Mickey, Maggie, Jen, Peter, Jack, Sharon, Shawn-D, Shawn & Caroline are all there to wish them well. They wonder why Bo & Hope were at the warehouse in the first place & Hope covers by saying she & Bo were out for a walk & saw Franco come in so they followed him in. Bo & Hope continue to argue as to whether Franco is the man who attacked Jill. Bo is relieved when he learns that Franco's next assignment will be in Milan but is disappointed when Franco later announces that Titan wants to do another campaign with he & Hope.
Jen seems uncomfortable seeing Jack with Sharon. Peter is insecure as he hears Alice & Bo discuss Jen's feelings. Jack tells Hope he has a good time with Sharon but he still loves Jen. When Peter hears that Mickey & Maggie cannot use a gift certificate for a dinner at Salem Club he suggests they give it to Jack & Sharon. When Jack asks Sharon to dinner, Peter makes sure Jen sees this & comments on how close they are.

Stefano is pleased with himself for outsmarting John & stealing the crown. He thanks Rene (who turns out to be someone wearing a rubber mask) for his work. Paul announces to Stefano that Marlena has slipped away. Stefano is furious & orders Paul to search the chateau & find her before she finds John.
John, Abe, Lexie & Rene (who was knocked out by the imposter) search the building for Marlena & Stefano. John tells Kristen to keep an eye on the monitors. She sees Marlena in one room & sends John to another room. Marlena realises Stefano's men are everywhere & tries to find someone she can trust. She literally bumps into Kristen. She accuses Kristen of working with Stefano & blames her for John's death. She leaves Kristen before Kristen can tell her that John is not dead. John sees Marlena walking down a corridor & calls to her. She turns & cannot believe John is alive & in front of her. They are both emotional as they embrace & John says he is taking her home. Marlena's joy turns to pain when Stefano injects a needle into John's shoulder leaving him unconscious. Stefano takes John & Marlena back to his underground lair. He locks Marlena in her cage. She begs to know if John is okay & whether he will live. Stefano tells her John's fate will be decided tomorrow.
Kristen sees John collapse on the monitor. She, Abe, Lexie & Rene race to the corridor but arrive too late. They see John's earpiece & realise Stefano now has both John & Marlena. Kristen is very worked up about this & Lexie cannot calm her down.
Austin & Carrie are looking forward to their trip although Austin still won't tell Carrie where they are going. They go to the pub to say good-bye to Shawn & Caroline & Kate. Sami & Lucas try to plot a way to stop the trip. Mary stops by & offers to do some laundry for Sami. Sami tells Lucas how much she appreciates Mary's friendship. Lucas tells Sami he has a plan. They go to the pub so Austin can see Will before he leaves. Just as Carrie & Austin are about to leave, Sami makes the announcements he is having Will's christening next week (while Austin will be away). Austin tells Sami it will have to wait until he gets back but Sami says all the arrangements have been made. Carrie suggests they postpone their trip but Austin is adamant that they go & the christening will be postponed.

Carrie realises that Austin does not want to miss Will's christening & suggests they postpone their pre-wedding honeymoon. Kate overhears Austin & Carrie telling Shawn & Caroline of their decision to postpone the trip & leaves. Lucas delivers the christening invitations to Sami (which she told Austin had already been printed) & they discuss whether Austin will cancel the trip. Mary drops by to tell Sami that she had a dream that something wonderful would happen to her. Sami asks Jamie to be Will's Godmother. When Sami & Lucas stop by the pub & hear of the trip being postponed they are pleased until Kate arrives & says that she has arranged for the christening to happen today so that Austin & Carrie can still go on their trip. Sami cannot come up with any reason to postpone the christening so it goes ahead with Jonah, Jamie & Carrie as the Godparents. Lucas tells off his mother for interfering again & ensuring Austin gets everything he wants. After the christening Lucas suggests it is time they take off the gloves & start getting even.
Bo has a dream that Franco is attacking Hope. He asks Hope not to sign any contract with Titan until he finds the proof that Franco is guilty. At Titan, Hope discovers that they want her to sign the contract today & many people are depending on this assignment. She tells them she needs to talk with Bo first. Bo questions a friend of Jill's but learns nothing to proove Franco is the man. At the boat, Hope tells Bo she needs to sign the contract but Bo says he forbids her from signing it.

Hope is angry that Bo ordered her not to work with Franco. They have the same argument over whether he is innocent or not. Bo leaves to go to the station & Franco visits Hope. He tells her he is leaving Salem as he needs to go where there is work. He tells her how he has bought some of the Titan staff gifts & Hope wishes Bo could see how truly caring Franco is. When Bo returns, Franco says good-bye to Bo & thanks him for his friendship. Bo is still determined to proove Franco is guilty & Franco overhears Hope & Bo talking on this matter.
Marlena asks Stefano to tell her how John is & to see him. Stefano cryptically tells her that John's fate will be decided today. He brings in a TV monitor so Marlena can watch John in his cage (which is somehat smaller & nowhere near as lavish as Marlena's). John wakes up & demands to see Marlena. Stefano tells Marlena she is about to understand what he meant by John's fate being decided. A whole group of oddball people enter the room. Stefano explains these are the people who live underground. Stefano is their king & Marlena their queen. They are trying John on charges of treason, trespass & murder. John tries to escape but is brought into the room. He sees the trial as ridiculous & refuses to participate in it. Stefano testifies against John acusing of murdering Tony, stealing Marlena's love & trespassing in this underground world. The jury find him guilty & sentence him to death. Marlena is is aghast but John tries to reassure her.
Abe, Lexie, Kristen & Rachel await news from Rene about John & Marlena. Rene says the police were unable to find any clues but they did find Marlena's letter to Belle. Kristen tells them she remembers Stefano telling her about the underground tunnels & they agree that is where Stefano has taken them.
Abe doesn't let Kristen join the search. Abe & Lexie are refused help from the police but when Abe threatens to go to the media, they reconsider. Kristen recalls Stefano showing her the entrance to the underground world & goes out on her own to find John.

Marlena demands that she be allowed to speak on behalf of John. She makes an emotional speech detailing John's virtues. Stefano intimidates the jury into adhering to their guilty verdict. Stefano tells John his death sentence will be carried out within the hour. He is taken to his cage & Marlena begs for John's life even agreeing to sleep with Stefano in exchange for John's life but Stefano will not be moved. John says a prayer for Marlena's safety & is brought to another room. Stefano brings Marlena & she asks to be able to speak with John. She tells him that she loves him & always will. John tells Marlena to be strong & not to give in to Stefano. Stefano reveals a guillotine & orders his guards to place John's head in the guillotine.
Kristen finds the door to the underground world & is startled when Rachel enters behind her. Rachel explains she followed Kristen from the hotel. Together they find the passage & start down it. Part way down the tunnel, there is a cave-in & both are left lying unconscious on the ground.
Abe & Lexie receive permission to search the tunnels & Rene offers to help them. They go to the hotel to tell Kristen of the latest but are surprised to see she & Rachel are gone.
Vivian awakens to find Ivan in bed beside her. She is horrified & Ivan is delighted. For a while they believe they must've slept together (although neither remembered doing so) but a hotel maid explains that she found Ivan passed out on the floor & some hotel employees put him in the bed. Vivian is relieved. She is determined to find Stefano so he can sign the affadavit. A passing remark of Ivan's leads Vivian to believe that Stefano is hiding in the Parisian underground. She & Ivan search for the place where she met with Stefano as she believes this is the doorway to the underground.
