On Monday, John and Kristen watch Marlena's plane take off. Both are
emotional, but for different reasons. John, because he thinks Marlena is safe;
and Kristen, because she knows that she's betrayed John's plan by giving the
number of the plane to Stefano. In the meantime, Hope, Bo, and Abe find out
from Benny's tape that Stefano could be in town. They race off [minus Hope,
whom Bo growls at to stay behind] to tell John, praying that they are not too
late. [The plane is at the end of the runway when Abe and Bo arrive at the
airport and instruct John to tell the airport officials to bring the plane
back. Marlena and Rachel are confused when the plane slows down and turns
around, and Stefano (who is hiding) gets very nervous. Bo, Abe, and John
search the plane and find Stefano's pilot cap and fake moustache. He managed
to slip out unnoticed. Luckily he finds Celeste, who decided to wait around
to make sure Stefano's plan worked. She drives him to his safe house, while
Bo and Abe comb the area for him. Bo won't even look at Hope. He thinks she
should have told him about her potential lead, regardless of whether he would
have laughed at her for believing Benny. Lexie doesn't think Hope is at
fault since the lead went cold and she had nothing concrete, but Bo is a
blockhead.] Lucas and Carrie are beginning to adjust to living together.
[Carrie daydreams of Austin and burns the toast, setting of the smoke detector.
This alerts Austin and Sami next door, who walk in to find Carrie and Lucas in
a compromising (though innocent) position.] Knowing that Lucas is with Carrie
upsets Austin, but he does his best to cover in front of Sami. Kate finds out
about the new living arrangements. [She realizes she hadn't even thought about
where Lucas would live now that Vivian is at the house. Austin tells her that
he has decided to stay with Sami.] She's not happy about it, but she keeps
out of it. After all, her life is a mess, so who is she to lecture to her
children? [Kate apologizes to Sami for her harsh accusations a while back.
Lynn calls both Lucas and Sami demanding her money *now* or she starts talking
to Kate about what they did to keep Carrie and Austin apart. She tries to
call Kate at Marlena's, but the phone is busy (Kate is talking to Marlena at
Kristen's); so Lynn decides to go in person. Rachel worries that it will be
difficult for Marlena to be near John and Kristen again. Will she be able
to keep quiet about Kristen's scheming? Elsewhere, John can't understand
how Stefano found out what plane Marlena was on. Then he remembers that he
told Kristen.]
Tuesday June 4, 1996
On Tuesday, John wonders how Stefano knew what plane Marlena would be
flying on. Kristen has an uneasy feeling that John knows she told him, and
considers coming clean with John once and for all. [She claims to only vaguely
remember their conversation, since she was half-asleep. Then John comes up
with the theory that Stefano somehow eavesdropped. Rachel tries to convince
Marlena not to go to John about Kristen's schemes. She's concerned about the
baby. Marlena at least agrees to think it over, and goes outside, where she
runs into John.] In the meantime, Stefano continues to lay low, knowing the
police are searching all of Salem for him. Celeste tries to convince him to
give it up and admit that he will never have Marlena. In an uncharacteristic
turnaround, Stefano agrees with her. Celeste is glad that Stefano is finally
coming to his senses, but she doesn't realize that Stefano's new plan will
upset her even more. [He intends to get to John through someone else close
to him -- Lexie. Celeste implores Stefano to leave Lexie alone, but he
refuses. He plans to mold her and teach her his ways, and then she can help
him get Marlena. He has Lexie followed, and upon learning her location, goes
to see her. Celeste swears she will turn Stefano in, and rushes to Abe for
help.] Now that Vivian is the new mistress in the Kiriakis mansion, she
intends to make some changes. She starts by turning the house upside down
[hiring decorators to give it a completely new look], and if any servant
refuses to pledge total and complete loyalty to Vivian, they will be out the
door. [Henderson is the first to go. He was keeping an eye on Victor for
Kate, and she's very worried about his health and recovery. Vivian is sure
she can get Victor to love her again. Lucas sticks to Kate like glue so
that Lynn can't get to her. Sami meets Lynn, who gives them until 2 pm to
get her $100,000. Desperate, Sami forges Kate's name and heads to the bank
with Lucas. Rachel overhears Kristen and figures out that she was the one
who told Stefano which plane Marlena would be on. Kristen promises not to
do anything bad ever again (yeah, right) if her mother will keep silent.
Because she loves her daughter and is concerned for the health of her baby,
she agrees. However, she's concerned that Marlena will go to John. Kristen
goes to speak with her, and panics when she's not in her room. She's outside
with John, who notices that she is distracted. "Is there something you want
to tell me?" he asks. As a matter of fact, there is.]
Wednesday, June 5, 1996
On Wednesday, Lexie finds herself alone with Stefano, who admits
that he's leaving town, and intends to take her with him. When Lexie makes
it clear that she has no intention of going anywhere with him, [he plays up
their "bond" as father and daughter and] Stefano reveals that he has been
acting behind the scenes the whole time. He tells Lexie that he sent her
flowers and champagne, and even arranged it so she would win those beautiful,
expensive, and _real_ pearls [she rips them off her neck in defiance]. "Oh,
and I almost forgot," adds Stefano with a sneer, "I also arranged for Jonah
to get back into med school." Stefano tries his best to convince Lexie that
he can make her life truly remarkable. In the meantime, Abe, John, and Bo,
acting on a tip from Celeste, race to the site where Lexie and Stefano are.
[Abe is suspicious of Celeste, but isn't willing to take the chance that she's
telling the truth. When they arrive, Lexie is alone. Apparently Stefano got
a phone call and rushed out without her. Marlena was about to tell John
about Kristen's schemings to keep them apart when she was interrupted; first
by Kristen, who plays on Marlena's guilt about punishing an innocent child
(her baby), and then by Abe, who got a lead on Stefano (so John rushed off).
Despite Kristen's manipulation, Marlena makes no promises about not talking
to John.] Sami and Lucas go to the bank with Kate's forged signature on that
document enabling Lucas early access to his trust fund. But their plan hits a
snag when the bank official calls Kate to the scene. Now Lucas must come up
with a suitable explanation. If not, his goose is cooked. [Sami saves the
day by explaining that Lucas wanted the money to help his mother, since she's
out of a job and on her own. She's touched, but insists that Lucas leave the
money in the trust fund alone. Lynn is not happy about this turn of events,
but Sami informs her that she'll just have to wait. Lucas is afraid that
Sami is pushing her luck. Kate learns from Mickey that he may have found a
way to legally stop Vivian. Kate fears that by the time Victor is well,
Vivian will have already destroyed Titan industries. Hope tries to get
involved with the search for Stefano, but Bo still won't have it. She
accidentally gets involved when she runs into Stefano in the park. Hope
shoots, Stefano runs, and Abe, Bo, and John catch him. It gives John great
pleasure to put Stefano in jail. Kristen is nervous that Stefano will tell
John that she told him which plane Marlena would be on. He quietly assures
her that her secret is safe, and she will repay him sometime. Since Hope
technically violated rules by keeping info on Benny's Stefano tapes to
herself, she will be disciplined. Bo, as officer in charge of the case,
must decide what actions to take. Hope is floored when he tells her that
she is now suspended from the police force.]
Thursday, June 6, 1996
On Thursday, Bo tells Hope that she's been suspended from the police
force, effective immediately. Hope can't believe her ears, and she can't
believe that Bo is doing this to her. It's such a tense scene that it leads
you to wonder if their relationship is strong enough to weather this storm.
[Hope is led to believe that others pressured Bo into making the this decision,
and she apologizes for being upset, since she *did* ask him to treat her as
he would any other cop. But when he mentions her now doing something less
dangerous, Hope sees that Bo got just what he wanted. She tosses her badge
at him and leaves.] John, Kristen, and Marlena share another awkward night
at the DiMera mansion. Kristen is on edge, not knowing if Marlena will stand
by her original promise to keep quiet about the letter until after her trip to
San Francisco with Rachel. [She has abdominal pains again, but tells John not
to call the doctor. John decides to spend more personal time with Kristen,
and arranges for a lovely dinner for them. Marlena can't bear to hear it,
and excuses herself. She then tells Kristen that she will not tell John about
her schemes until after she returns from San Francisco -- IF she no longer has
intimate relations with John. Kristen is furious but Marlena is unyielding.
This is the only way for Kristen to buy time. She invites Marlena and Rachel
to her and John's dinner, and doesn't eat much. John offers to 'make her feel
better', and Kristen is forced to put him off. She claims to be having 'mood
swings' and he shouldn't take it personally; but she would like him to stay
in a guest room tonight. John is very confused, but does as she wishes.]
Vivian is busy securing her position at Titan and the Kiriakis mansion when
Kate hears from Mickey. [Vivian has a massage, and gets her hair and make-up
done. Dressed in a black negligee, she goes to see Victor. The nurse forces
Vivian to leave because her presence clearly upsets him.] After Mickey tells
Kate that the news is good [Victor had filed papers that allow Kate to retain
half of the power of attorney as guardian of Philip], Kate hurries over to the
mansion, eager to make her announcement. [Vivian is all set to call the police
to have her thrown out, but Kate shows her the papers and informs her that
she's moving back in. She rushes to Victor's bedside, and his condition
instantly improves. Hope returns to the boat after being fired, and packs
up her things. Bo is shocked to see that she is leaving, but Hope says she
needs time alone to think things over. Bo receives a package -- it's Hope's
engagement ring. He was about to ask her to marry him.]
Friday, June 7, 1996 Updates
On Friday, Stefano is arraigned, and asks Peter to be his lawyer.
Jennifer is upset about this, but Jack is pleased because he thinks Peter
will finally be showing his true colors. Peter knows Stefano could expose
all his dark secrets, but Peter also knows that if he agrees to represent
Stefano, Jennifer will never forgive him. [He also reminds Stefano that he
knows a lot of damaging information about him too, so if he's going down,
he's taking Stefano with him. Stefano pleads not guilty to all charges,
and is denied bail.] Marlena insists that Kristen not sleep with John, or
she will tell him all about Kristen's dirty little schemes. [Kristen plans
a 'going away' party for her mother and Marlena. She'll be glad when Marlena
is gone so she can be with John again. She blames it on fluctuating hormones,
but Kristen knows she can't keep John out of her bed without arousing his
suspicion. Both Rachel and Peter tell Kristen that she must tell John about
keeping the letter from Marlena, but she refuses.] Later, Marlena finds out
that Kristen knew the number of the plane she and Rachel were on [she and John
were discussing how Stefano figured it out since John was the only one who
knew, and he said that he told Kristen], which can only mean that is was
Kristen who told Stefano. [Kristen overhears the conversation and sees
Marlena's reaction to the news, and panics that she will figure it out.]
Austin, Sami, Lucas, and Carrie are pleased to see Kate is back in the
mansion, but Lucas and Sami also realize that they must keep Lynn from
finding out that Kate is back [she left her job when Vivian took over, and
Kate wants to re-hire her.] They offer to send Lynn on a cruise to get her
out of town. Lynn knows what the two are up to, and decides to make them
sweat a little before giving them her answer. [She accepts their offering,
but then runs into Henderson, who informs her that Kate is back at the house
and wants her to be Victor's nurse again. Kate observes Carrie and Austin
together and sees that they still have feelings for each other, but when
confronted, Carrie asks her to leave it alone. Kate wishes there was
something she could do. Hope stays with Alice, who encourages her not to
give up on her relationship with Bo. Hope calls Bo at work, but he says
he's too busy to take the call. She figures he knew it was her calling
and didn't want to talk with her, but he didn't know it was her. Later
she sees him on TV briefing the press on Stefano's arraignment, and
misinterprets his comments regarding her suspension. Communication is
not in the Salem dictionary.]
