January 29-February 2, 1996 Updates

Monday, January 29, 1996

Ê On Monday, Celeste tells Stefano that Lexie is her child. Stefano is stunned, and wonders who the father is. Celeste says "Not even the father is aware he has a child, and that's the way it must stay." Later, Celeste tells Lexie that she will take her father's identity to the grave. Stefano feels for Celeste, but right now he's more concerned with Marlena. [She lashes out at him when she asks him for advice about her situation, and all he can do is babble on about Marlena and how he's going to have her. Earlier he had a bad dream about John being found innocent and leaving court in the arms of Marlena. Stefano makes arrangements to travel and tells his pilot that Marlena will be with him (willing or not).] Sami creates a happy home life for Austin. He finds himself at ease with this new life, but realizes he doesn't know very much about Sami. He coaxes Sami to open up about herself, and is struck by the tough times she's had. [He gets her to describe her dreams, which include getting married in a big wedding (like Carrie) and having a nice home and a family. She fantasizes about marrying Austin. Austin assures her that she can still have that -- she's a wonderful person. Sami says no one will want her now, though she emphasizes that she loves Will. Austin leaves for work. At Titan, Carrie admits to Lucas that she's still not over Austin. Lucas thinks it's time to move on, but Carrie doesn't think she ever will. Later, Sami drops by with Will to bring Austin the lunch he forgot. He invites her to join him for lunch in the park.] Unfortunately for Sami, Carrie and Austin must go on an overnight business trip together. In search of Hope, helicopter and dog teams have been brought in and soon the copter spots a body. John, Kristen, and Abe spring into action and find that it's Bo. He's not dead, just unconscious, but his condition is serious. Mike steps in and revives Bo. In his groggy state, Bo's first worry is still Hope. The ranger comes in to say he's sorry, but they're calling off the search.

Ê On Tuesday, Bo is still determined to find Hope, but Mike knows it would be certain death for Bo in his weakened condition and refuses to let him leave the shelter [Mike gives him a sedative so he is easier to control.] The ranger returns to remind the search party that there is nothing more they can do. Bo polls the room and it seems that everyone thinks that he should accept the fact that Hope is dead. Vivian and Victor are growing closer, now that Vivian has started being more honest and less manipulative. Ivan is glad to see this change in Vivian but whispers "You still have one hidden secret from him, and that's the fact that you played a big part in Kate's death." Vivian is well aware of that, and knows it's the one thing she could never tell Victor. He loves Kate, and would never forgive her. And even if he could, they would spend the rest of our lives in prison. Ivan can't argue that point. [Vivian and Victor are about to have a lovely dinner at home when Caroline stops by with Shawn. John called them, and they've come to tell Victor about Bo. Victor quickly arranges to have his private jet fly them all to Aremid. After Victor leaves, Vivian peeks into Kate's old room. It's like a shrine. Everything has been kept the same as it was. Then Vivian has a vision of Kate coming after her with a knife.] Meanwhile, Jose agrees to help Kate escape tonight. [Victor, Caroline, and Shawn arrive in Aremid and ask what they can do. The ranger says it's not a matter of manpower or money. Hope has been missing too long. Bo is still certain Hope is alive.] Austin turns down the chance to go with Carrie on that business trip. Carrie is hurt, and doesn't care that Lucas has stepped in to take Austin's place. [Once in New York, they find that they must share a hotel room. Austin calls and Lucas answers. He learns that they are staying together, and quickly ends the phone call. To thank Austin for not going on the trip, Sami makes him a special meal. She runs into Jamie while grocery shopping and brags that Austin canceled a business trip to stay home with her. They're like a real family. Jamie still thinks Sami is delusional, but Sami believes it won't be long until Austin is hers. In New York, Carrie decides to take Lucas up on his offer of dinner. She can't mope around forever.]

Ê On Wednesday, Hope is buried beneath a blanket of snow, but she's alive. [Jennifer is back at the Blake house recovering, but insists she wants to go out and help find Hope. She collapses and agrees to let Peter go find out what is going on. To cheer Jennifer up, Jack brings Abby to her.] Back at the shelter, Bo's friends have told him time and again that it's wrong to continue to have faith that Hope is still alive [which is a bit unreasonable considering how many other people have been thought dead but weren't really.] But Bo is still having a tough time accepting this, and he goes off by himself to pray for advice from God so he will know what to do. Bo gets the sign he's been looking for [he hears Hope's voice calling to him] and vows to return to the mountain to find his beloved Hope. [Victor tries to explain to Bo that he's hearing things. He went through the same thing when he lost Kate. Due to the instability of the mountain, the rangers will arrest anyone who tries to continue the search.] But as Bo is about to take off, Shawn-Douglas runs in, terrified at the thought of losing his Dad as well as his Mom. Bo realizes this is tough on the kid, and tries his best to comfort his son. [Shawn-Douglas makes him promise he won't go out on the mountain and die. Bo promises.] John uses this opportunity to sneak off to find Hope. Peter realizes John is gone and is furious. He immediately casts a vote to bring John back and put him in jail. [Earlier, Kristen again begged John to run while he had the chance, before Peter had him put back in jail. Victor also offered him a new life and new identity elsewhere. John refused. He doesn't find Hope, but the police find him and bring him back.] When Bo hears about this, he cries "As long as John was out there, I felt there was a chance. Now it seems it's over." [Bo prays again, just to find Hope, alive or not, so he can hold her and kiss her one last time.] Someone just found Hope in the snow [she had poked an air-hole through the snow (apparently she wasn't buried so deep.)] The stranger carries her into a cabin. Hope seems to be alive, but her ultimate fate is still very much up in the air.

Thursday, February 1, 1996

On Thursday, Austin and Sami continue to play house and bond over the baby. Later, Austin tucks Sami in for the night and she drifts off to sleep, confident that she's getting him to fall in love with her. Carrie and Lucas are in New York, but Carrie is depressed about not having Austin in her life. Lucas works hard to make Carrie's night on the town fun, and he's pleased when Carrie refers to their evening together as a date. [They are pleasantly surprised to discover that they know a lot about each other. (For example, Lucas is able to guess Carrie's favorite color and favorite ice cream, and Carrie knows Lucas' favorite sport is hockey.)] Stefano continues to plot to spirit Marlena away after the trial is over. [He calls Judge Walker again to make certain Kristen is put on the stand and forced to say she has doubts about John's innocence, and John will be found guilty and sentenced to death.] Meanwhile, Marlena has a close encounter with the woman in white, who murmurs that "dead men talk" [the woman points to the Blake house. Marlena turns to look, and then the woman disappears.] When Marlena asks Stefano what this means, he tells her to forget about it [she's just a deranged old woman.] But Stefano is upset, and later tells Celeste that they must keep the mysterious woman from doing anything to save John. [The woman frets over what to do to help "Johnny". Stefano still has Tony's journal, which is what she meant by "dead men talk".] Lexie tries to find out who her biological father is. Caroline knows Celeste was involved with a man, but she can't remember who. [Kristen asks Peter to let John out of jail for a few hours so he can be with his family after the tragedy of losing Hope. He reluctantly agrees.] Peter tells Kristen and John that there is evidence coming in from Salem [Tony's safe-deposit box] that will prove John had a motive for killing Tony. [John insists that Caroline, Shawn, and Victor return to Salem. They don't need to stay for the trial. John knows he's innocent, and tomorrow Kristen will tell everyone that she believes he did not kill Tony.]

On Friday, [John's trial resumes. Kristen has a nightmare about testifying, and goes to John with her fears (though she doesn't admit she has doubts about his innocence). She feels better when John explains that all she needs to do is introduce reasonable doubt that he is the killer. Kristen is confident that she can do that. She talks to Peter, and he agrees to go easy on her. Judge Walker overhears them, and tells Peter that he cannot give preferential treatment to witnesses. He *must* ask Kristen if she believes John could have killed Tony. Peter stalls as much as possible, and is saved when Tony's safe-deposit box arrives.] Peter introduces the new piece of evidence, a tape Tony made before he died. It's eerie to hear Tony talking from beyond the grave about his fear of John. Listening to that tape for just a few minutes provides the one thing the case against John lacks, and that is motive. All are shocked, but none as much as Kristen, who now fears John could have murdered Tony after all [since he wasn't dying (as far as *she* knew) when he made the tape.] Bo is overcome with grief when Alice calls looking for Hope. Bo can't explain over the phone, but his heart breaks at the thought of Alice hearing the news. [Shawn and Caroline say they will tell Alice when they return to Salem. Bo wants to stay in Aremid and find Hope (her body at least) so he can bring her home.] When Alice is finally told of Hope's demise, she, like Bo, refuses to believe it. [She calls Bo and tells him she doesn't feel in her heart that Hope is dead. Tom will send Bo a sign that Hope is alive.] Bo goes with Shawn-Douglas to say good-bye to Hope, looking for closure and a way to begin healing. [They lay a wreath of flowers near the area where they were fishing a few short days ago. Shawn-Douglas spots a bird caught in the bushes, and Bo rescues it. Shawn-Douglas wants to keep it and take care of it, but Bo tells him he must let it go, and Bo releases it.] But in the end, Bo still can't bring himself the fact that Hope is gone. He returns to the wreath of flowers and finds the bird there. Is it a sign?] Miles away, Hope is warm in that cabin, but she's barely conscious and completely unaware of where she is. The mystery man tends to Hope's injuries. He's none other than Jude St. Clair. [Hope continuously calls out to Bo, and tells him how much she loves him, but it is Jude she is speaking to.] Ê
