Vic can't understand why Kate has refused his proposal but she tells him that she has realized in the last week that she doesn't want a marriage that is a business transaction, she needs someone who will love her. Can Victor give her that? He can't tell her he loves her right now and he leaves as Lucas arrives. Kate decides it's time to tell him the real truth and reveals she was married before he was born. She tells him she was young and in love but once she was married, he started gambling and got into drugs and then he started beating her, the last time so badly he almost killed her. Then she tells him she had two young children. She tells him she met his father and was happy for a while but then her husband found out - that was when he beat her so badly and he left her, taking the kids. She says that she looked for them for ages but when she eventually found out what happened to them she found they had died in an accident. Lucas is stunned and anguished over his mothers grief. Victor comes back and Lucas leaves. Vic tells Kate he now realizes that he doesn't want a business transaction either, but he doesn't know if he is capable of the love she wants. However he does want her and he wants to marry her. Kate says she doesn't want to rush into it but Vic tells her they don't have time to mess around, not if they want a family. Kate is shocked - she didn't realize that was what Victor wanted. He asks her again if she'll marry him and provide him with an heir, to which she answers yes. In LA Bo tells Billie not to go away, he'll be right back. Billie gets upset, thinking she looks awful and strips off her dress. Bo comes back to find her all upset and in her underclothes. He apologises and tells her that he thought she looked spectacular and he didn't mean to hurt her feelings. He helps her back into her dress and pulls out a necklace, telling her that's why he went off. It's diamond and sapphires and he tells her it's on loan. He puts it on her and the matching earrings and tells her she looks perfect. Billie can't wipe the grin off her face and she savours the moment, especially once he calls her a princess. They head to Malco's party where Malco dances with Billie, much to Bo and Malco's girlfriends chagrin. Malco decides to get the hired man to come and meet Bo but his girlfriend tells him not to trust them - they're phonies and she can prove it. John and Kristen spend the whole episode rocking around the lake in dinghies while someone throws buckets of water at them. Eventually Kristen rocks hers so much she falls out, and John happens to find her washed up on the shore. Dammit - she's still alive and he gives her mouth to mouth until she starts breathing again. (Did I say dammit yet?) She wants to know how he found her (I want to know *why* myself) but he tells her not to talk. Of course before you can say Eeeewwwwww, they're doing the tongue tango. (Pass the barf bucket. That has to be the most *disgusting* thing I've seen yet. And I've seen John kiss Rebecca. Yes...It's worse. But there's even worse to come......)

Yep. John and Kristen are still swapping spit. (Or kissing, or making me exceedingly nauseous - whatever you prefer.) That is, until she pushes him away, whining that "this is wrong". You got that right. John tells her they have to get back to the cabin but she can't walk so he has to carry her (Oh how very convenient.) She tells him that he saved her life. (His very first act of Duh-dom obviously). Blah blah blah. They spend the episode staring into each other's eyes for long moments until they get carried away and have to do that old spit swap thing again. Kristen has another attack of the guilts but seems to get over it very quickly. John slips into temporary dementia as he tells her she's so beautiful. They light a fire and then progress to the bed in quick smart time. The rest is far too painful to relate. I'm sure you get the general drift anyway. Roman, Marlena, Abe and Lexie get back to Roman and Marlena's house after Richie's funeral. They're all pretty quiet. Abe follows Roman out the back where they shoot hoops. (Is a basketball hoop on the garage an obligatory fixture of American life??) Jonah rolls up to join them just in time to hear that Roman wants to leave the force and Abe wants to quit the neighbourhood. So he finds the ladies inside and makes the comment that if the Pacifier was still around maybe Abe and Lexie wouldn't have to leave the neighbourhood. Abe and Lexie leave, meaning that Roman can now tell Marlena about his plan to quit the force. Marlena is not surprisingly, surprised. She is even more bemused as Roman tells her that John offered him a job. Marlena looks rather unsure about the whole thing. As well she probably should. Carrie talks to Marlena (earlier) about the feelings Lucas seems to be developing for her and the fact that she's still hopelessly devoted to Austin. Well, okay, she doesn't *say* that, but come on, who is the kid trying to kid? Of course Lucas inconveniently arrives just after Marlena advises Carrie to tell Austin how she really feels (wow - now *there* is some advice that *no-one* in Salem will take for the next 57 years.). He drags Carrie outside and cries on her shoulder about his brother and sister that he never knew he had but now he knows but they're dead problem. Billie and Bo play dumb over the bimbo's accusations and she points out that they act more like brother and sister. So they spin into a nicely choreographed dance that's supposed to prove something. What, I'm not quite sure, but I guess it looked good. Billie decides to visit the little girls room, but before she goes, Bo lays a big smacker on her, just a little more persuasion for his mate Malco. It seems to work, but alas, Billie runs into dear daddy at the lift and tells him to get out or he's in deep shtick. He gets out. Malco gets mad. Bo gets madder. Bo speaks without moving his teeth and then he and Billie skedaddle. Back at the Ritz-Carlton, Bo takes the earrings and necklace to put in the safe. But he tells Billie that they're gonna continue having fun until they catch this gunman. Oh goody. However will I cope with the excitement??

John and Kristen wake in the morning and kid around in bed. John gets up to make them breakfast and then suggests that they head back to Salem after that. Kristen doesn't want to but John says they'll run out of food soon. She heads off into the great unknown (I was hoping she'd get sucked up by a patch of sinking sand, but then I never get what I want so this time was no different.) John finds her by the shore and she tells him this can't carry on back in Salem (if only). He tries to persuade her by leaping on top of her. I can see his brain cells dying already. A stranger arrives in town. (It's Peter - no great surprise there huh?) He visit's Kristen's apartment but she's not there. So he goes to the hospital but is told she's out of town. So he calls John's office. Hey, guess what Petey? He's out of town too. Kate tells Lucas about her impending wedding plans and then heads off to the hospital to ask Marlena to be her matron of honour. However, when she gets back to Titan, Vic tells her he wants to marry him tonight. Kate, smart one that she is, surmises that the haste is due to the fact that Victor wants to get his hands on the Spectator. Marlena talks to Kim on the phone and tells her the guilt is tearing her apart )get used to it babe...not about to go away any time soon...) Roman comes down but doesn't overhear. It's time for Carrie's second op and Marlena and Roman head over and pick her up. They take her to the hospital and Lucas stops by. So does Brandee and she threatens to tell Carrie the truth about Lucas's manipulations if he doesn't get her some modelling jobs at Titan...
(Tuesday 14th April 1998 in NZ)
Lucas heads over to Titan where he suggests to Kate that Brandee would be a good model for the Milan shoot. Kate agrees and says she'll have her booked. Lucas runs off to tell the blonde but later Kate is told by her secretary that they've already booked someone else. Kate says oh well, she's sure it wasn't important. Meanwhile Brandee is heading off to Titan to get the details and is warning Lucas that it better pan out or Austin and Carrie will know the truth about the cabin. Carrie has her second op. Austin has some more tests for his and Abby's op. They meet. They stare. Usual stuff ya know. Jenn wants to help them get back together but they both are saying that it's over. Bo and Billie are having breakfast and one of Malco's men tells them he's found the hitman and he will be picking them up in an hour. Bo heads off to take the jewels back to the store and Billie tries but fails to get hold of Curtis. Bo comes back with a small pendant for Billie to thank her for all that she has done. She tries to call Curtis again but finds out he left the club half an hour ago. Malco arrives and takes them to a place where they are supposed to meet with the gunman. Vic arranges everything for the wedding and gets Kate to sign a pre-nup agreement. She tells him she's not signing over The Spectator until after they are married. Katerina sees Vivian at the door and wants her to come in and talk to her. They make small talk and then Lawrence takes Vivian outside and tells her he is going to make her pay for what she has done (again). He heads back inside and Katerina tells him that she had a dream about someone coming between them and it seemed so real. And then she tells him that they had a son in the dream and he was doing everything to get them back together. She wants to know why her dreams are so sad. Lawrence holds her for a while and then she starts coughing. The nurse comes in and checks on her and tells Lawrence that her only hope is Dr. Wu to get back with the healing herb. Meanwhile, downstairs, Vivian is downing the brandy and fretting about Lawrence's possible murderous tendencies. She decides that she has to get a good lawyer who can say that the herbs made her temporarily insane. Ivan mutters that maybe it was *permanently* insane. She promises Ivan that if he sticks by her she'll find some way to protect them both. She moons over the fact that she let Victor get away and decides it's time to go see him again, however she gets to Titan and walks in on Victor and Kate kissing.
(Wednesday 15th April 1998 in NZ)
Kate and Victor see Vivian and Vivian sees the engagement ring. They tell her they're getting married tonight. Kate leaves and Vivian tries to tell Victor that *she's* the one he's really in love with. Vic tells her he loves her as a friend and he wants her to be happy. She tries to talk him into running away with her but he's not having anything of it. He goes off and Kate comes back and Vivian (ever the bitch) tells Kate that the marriage won't last. She adds that the affaire that she and Victor had was intense and passionate and erotic and that he really loves *her* (Hahahah...gotta love Viv!). She leaves Kate feeling a little shaken. Back at LaAlamain she decides that she has to fins a way to get rid of Kate. Carrie is already up and about and ready to go home (but she just had a *skin graft* this morning!!) Lucas asks her to go to the wedding and she accepts. Brandee turns up at the hospital and tells Lucas that her name is not on the list for Milan and unless he gets it on there she's going to tell Carrie and Austin all about his little schemes. Lucas races over to Titan but Kate is getting ready for the wedding. She tells him there's nothing she can do - the contracts are sitting on the desk waiting to be signed. Lucas decides a little contract swapping is in order. However, Brandee has followed him to Titan and is preparing to tell Carrie everything. At the cabin, John persuades Kristen that this can carry on back in Salem. She says only if it stays a total secret. He agrees - for now. But when she gets back to her apartment - Peter is waiting there for her. She tells him she just works with John Black and Peter says if she ever got involved with him, the family would get very upset as would her fiance. Kristen tells him not to worry - her wedding will go off as planned this time. John heads back to Titan and finds that Vic is getting married and wants him to be his best man. John accepts and asks Vic to send an invitation over to Kristen. She turns up and is talking to John, but Peter is close on her heels. The gunman isn't Curtis and Billie shakes her head discreetly. Bo says that he won't do when it turns out he hasn't worked for 18 months. Malco tells him their deal is over and Bo goes back to see Ozzie. Ozzie gives him photos of Malco's contacts and says that Curtis is the only one who doesn't have an airtight alibi for that day. He also tells Bo that he is known to hang around at 'Round Midnight. Meanwhile Billie is there and finds Curtis is stoned. She threatens to turn him in but he starts crying. She tells him she'll help him and goes off to call a drug clinic. Curtis says to himself that there's no way he'll go into a drug clinic. He has another drink, but Bo comes down the stairs and says he wants to talk to him. However Billie walks out from the back and Bo sees her....
