Marlena and John are in the lounge, Sami is still hiding behind the door, listening. Marlena tells him that they just have to wait now. John asks her if they can't have the blood test for the baby done first and she says no, they can't arouse suspicion. She has to protect her family and Roman. She says she has to go to the 4th of July picnic, Roman is waiting for her. John tells her he and Brady are going to swing by there later on, but he's not real excited about seeing Roman. Marlena asks why, and John tells her that every time he sees Roman and her together he has a hard time - Roman's always holding her, or patting her stomach, and it's hard. Marlena tries to interrupt, but John tells her he can't help it, he's only human. He says that every time he sees her he can't help but think she could be carrying his child. He says he knows it would be better for everyone if this baby is Roman's, but he asks her if there isn't just a part of her that remembers the passion that they shared and isn't there just a small part of her that would like that passion to live on in their child. Marlena's eyes fill with tears and she can't say anything for a moment. Meanwhile Sami listens on and shakes her head. John asks Marlena if there isn't just a small part of her that wants the baby to be his. Marlena tells him she can't even think about that. John points out that as much as she wants this baby to be Roman's they can't ignore the possibility that it might not be. And if *he* isn't, John can't imagine himself walking away from his own flesh and blood. (The background music swells, the same music that plays when they were on the plane). Marlena avows that she knows it's Roman's. John says to prepare herself in case it's not. Then John says that even though he doesn't want to bring this up right now, at some stage the truth is going to come out about what happened between them and Roman and the whole family is going to know. Marlena shakes her head and says no emphatically and walks past John. She says just made a mistake and they can get past it, she knows they can. John says they're not talking about making love here, they're not talking about any kind of casual sex. If that were the case they never would have acted on their feelings. They're talking about *love*. They're talking about two people who were *married* to each other, a deep emotional connection that has never *died*. *That* is why she got together and she knows it. Marlena's eyes are filled with tears and she nods her head slowly and inhales raggedly. She tries to protest, saying it was wrong what happened. John says he's not *denying* that. He tells her he's tried to live his life as though nothing has happened, but if this child is his, he can't do that any longer. That's what Marlena's afraid of, that's why she keeps praying that it's Roman's. John says so what? That *is* her answer? Marlena wipes a tear away and gives a rueful smile, shaking her head. John asks her again if that's her answer. She turns to him and says "I love being married to you. I love being your wife." But she loves Roman and she's made that choice now. She belongs with him *and* with her children. And John is going to have to accept that and respect that. And what if this child is theirs, John asks. Marlena gets more upset and says until the blood tests are in they can't even speculate about that. She says she has to go no and tries to walk to the door. John grabs her and stares at her face. In tears she has she has to go now and she pushes past him and leaves the room. John follows her out and Sami walks into the room, looking upset and nauseous.
Everyone heads for the picnic at the park. Except for Shawn who goes back to the pub and discovers a crook all tied up by 'the pacifier'. Roman is cooking burgers and Carrie talks to Lucas who tells her he wants her as a friend and tells her she can't keep being scared for the rest of her life.
Bo confronts Nikki about the chowder and he lies. Carly is pissed off that Bo treated it like it was a crime by investigating it and tells him Nikki wouldn't have done that. Bo leaves the picnic and Carly, Lawrence, Nikki and Shawn-D watch the fireworks together.
Sami follows Marlena back and when she sees John turn up with Brady, she starts stuffing her face with burgers. Jamie tells her she is glad to see her eating but then she says she guesses if she had the problems that Sami has she would eat everything in sight. Sami tells Jamie she loves her dad and doesn't want to see him get hurt and as much as she hates Marlena and John for what they've done, she loves them too and doesn't want to see them hurt either. Later when she realizes she's eaten 4 plates of food, she panics. She says that as much as her life is out of control, she will have Austin and she will be thin - like Brandee. Then she realizes that to get rid of the food, she has to throw up...
Jenn and Austin get home but Jack is at work and meeting with Kate. Jenn is disappointed because it's their wedding anniversary. Jo heads down to try and talk Jack into going home but he says he has an important meeting with Kate. Kate tells him about running into Jenn in Chicago and then Jack realizes what the date is and he runs out. He arrives home with a big bunch of roses and he and Jenn have a sweet evening.
Carrie runs across a disconsolate Sami and asks her if she's sick. Sami says no but everything is terrible and then goes on to say she looks horrible and she's huge. Carrie tells her that she's not - she's very pretty and still growing up. They talk about Lucas and Carrie tells Sami that since she has talked to Lucas she is thinking about going ahead with the surgery. Later she falls asleep on the couch and has a dream about she and Austin after the surgery. She is woken by the phone - it's Lucas and she tells him she's going to call and make an appointment with the plastic surgeon tomorrow.
Caroline discusses the living will with Shawn again. He's still very unhappy about it, but she has Mickey draw it up anyway. She doesn't want any of the kids to know about the possible cancer. Meanwhile Ivan overhears part of the conversation and Vivian thinks Caroline is dying and decides that she has to move quickly.
Bo and Carly make up temporarily but then argue again over Nikki. Things are going from bad to worse.
Jack finds Kate at the pub and decides that her aim is to marry Victor and thus have part ownership of his empire. Kate leaves and Jack gets a call from Vern about the rumours regarding Carly. (Earlier Mickey told Carly he thinks Mrs. Levit is going to sue and she should get her own lawyer). He heads down to the studio to find Jenn and they end up arguing over whether Carly should treat Abby should she get sick again.
Billie makes her pitch to Victor and he accepts the deal, dependent on the legal department okaying the papers. Billie perches herself on Vic's desk and displays a good eyeful of thigh. Victor is amused but Kate certainly isn't as she walks in.
Vic tells Kate that he has made a deal with Billie and then leaves. Kate rips into Billie and tells her she knows she's running a scam. Billie says it's no such thing and then trades insults with Kate. Vic goes down to see Caroline and she tells him that she could have cancer. Later he heads back to Titan where her tells Kate there's more to life than work and to go home early.
Bo and Carly have more disagreements. Shawn-D and Nikki spend the day with Bo, but Lawrence calls Nikki after talking to Carly and lets him know in so many words to cause another incident. Nikki takes Bo's car keys. At the hospital, Caroline talks to Carly and tells her that if they can't get this Nikki situation sorted out then they should think about postponing their marriage. Carly gets paged and it's Nikki. He tells her to come home quickly - it's Bo...
Carrie and Lucas head on round to Roman and Marlena's and tell them that Carrie has changed her mind - she's going to try the surgery. They tell her that they will pay for the surgery as she doesn't have any insurance. They all have lunch later - Roman cooks pasta, but Sami binges on a big bowl upstairs and then throws it up. Marlena is waiting on news from the hospital but there is none yet. She calls John and tells him and Sami overhears the phonecall. She tells Marlena she is going to the hospital and Marlena says that maybe she'll see her there later on....
Carly gets home and Bo accuses Nikki and Shawn-D of taking his car for a joyride and writing off a fence and the front of his car. He sends Shawn-D up to his room and then tries to do the same with Nikki. Carly doesn't do a good job of backing him up. Nikki runs out when Lawrence's chauffeur comes to pick him up and Carly doesn't stop him. Bo gets angry and tells her that she's letting Nikki run their lives. She tells him that she's afraid she will lose custody to Lawrence. They argue again and Carly says he's starting to sound like all the other people who were doubting that they could make it work. Bo says well maybe they just can't. Carly says that maybe they'd better stop before they say something they really regret. She gets paged to the hospital and leaves Bo who sulks. At the hospital, Vivian decides this is the day and has Ivan page Carly. She takes some morphine, gets dressed up in her nurses uniform and toddles down to Caroline's room to inject cleaning fluid into her IV. However, Carly is a little too quick and she catches Viv about to do her dirty deed. She yanks back the curtain and Viv turns round. Carly is stunned when she realizes who it is.
Vic comes to John's to talk about business but sees that John's mind is somewhere else. John tells him about the paternity tests and says he doesn't know if he is prepared or even able to let another man raise his child. Rebecca arrives and suggests they do something. John says that actually the sitter will be there soon, he has some personal business to take care of - some shopping. Rebecca invites herself along with him and they run into Marlena and Carrie who have been shopping for maternity wear at the mall. Marlena says she's just about to call the hospital and Rebecca says that they have to get back to work anyway. John demurs and says they have some time, why don't they sit down and have a coffee. They head off to Johnny Angels while Marlena calls the hematology lab. Frank tells her the results are in yet and when she asks about her personal code, he tells her what he's been using, of course, Sami is conveniently at the lab to hear this exchange. She asks Frank if he can give her a lesson on haematology and he gives her a text book. She takes it away and finds out John and Roman's blood types, and then works out that if the baby has type O blood (both J&M are type O) then the baby is John's. However Roman is AB (this week anyway ;0>), so if the baby is either A or B, then it's Roman's. Back at the mall, Carrie decides to Sit with John and Rebecca so Marlena sits with them. Kristen and Alice turn up and join the party too and Kristen tells John that one of his shirts got mixed up with her stuff the weekend that they turned up at the cabin together. Rebecca is not pleased at this turn of events and Marlena looks a little concerned that John hasn't told her about this. Kristen and Alice eventually leave and John takes Marlena aside on the pretext of showing her where they are going to put the Bella magazine stands. At the hospital, Sami heads back down to the lab when she sees Frank leave. In the lounge a nurse tells Frank that the bloodwork results have just been entered into the computer. In the lab Sami is checking it out.....
