February 1-5, 1993 Updates
Monday 1st February 1993
(Friday 5th September 1997 in NZ)
Carly comes into Nikki's bedroom and overhears Kim working the truth out (and wow! It only takes Bo another month to work it out!!). Kim and Carly talk about this revelation, but hey I don't really care about it so I skipped through it . Later they go down to the pub (well, doesn't everyone?) Kim tells Carly that she did the right thing not telling Bo. He would have had to choose between his job and her son. Carly says she couldn't do that to him. (Yeah, yeah).
Sami calls Carrie and after a little persuading, arranges to come over to Carrie's apartment. She asks about Carrie's boyfriend who is at that moment down at the Pub asking Caroline what he should put into the entry essay for Carrie's Face of the Nineties competition. Later they do a whole lot of setting up talk when Sami dribbles on about how great Roman and Marlena's love is an epic love story (blah blah blah .) Of course when he leaves she bumps into Austin for the first time.
Billie tells Bo that she will tell him who she *thinks* shot Abe. She tells him about talking to Lexie and then calls up a friend of Cash's to find out where he is. It seems he's at Casey's Roadhouse.
Marlena, Roman and Caroline all stand, staring at John in shock. Shawn comes over and asks what's going on. John tells him he and Brady are leaving Salem. Maybe for good. They all find reasons that he shouldn't go but he overrides their reasons. They ask when he is going. He says not right now he'll see them tomorrow. Marlena is thrown for a loop and Roman puts his arm around her saying that they never know, he could change his mind. Later they are about to leave for home when Roman gets the call from Bo to say that he has a lead on the guy that shot Abe. Roman tells him to wait, he will join him. Marlena tells him to go but to be careful. He leaves and Caroline brings out Brady's Mr. Huggy Bear and says that John has left it behind. Marlena decides to drop it by the loft on the way home.
Roman gets down to the pier and finds that Billie is there too. He can't believe that Bo has agreed to let her come too but Bo tells him they can't argue about it, there is no time to waste. They head to Casey's where Billie tips them off to Cash coming in. They arrest Cash and find drugs and a gun on him. As they take him out he sees Billie and realizes that she was the one that ratted him out.
At the loft, John is sitting on the couch playing with Brady (who is *so* cute) when there is a knock at the door. He opens it to find Marlena with the bear. She tells him that is why she came over but then says that she doesn't know why she thought that she needed an excuse. She just wishes she could stand there and tell him. John puts Brady to bed and comes back down. Marlena asks him why he's leaving town. He tells her that he told her all that at the Pub. She asks what the real reason is and he tells her she knows what it is. She says that maybe she just has to hear it and he says that maybe it's just better that she leaves now. Of course she can't, she can't take control where he is concerned and she can't leave. He can though and he is. He is running away from her and his feelings for her. He is leaving Salem just to get away from her. She asks if there is any changing his mind. He wants to know if that was what she really came there to do. She doesn't know if he can really run away from his feelings, and of course he won't know till he tries. She asks him why he can't try it right here. He has been trying but it's not working. How long can a man like him go on pretending. (Hmmmmm .) She is a little stunned and says that she didn't realize this was so hard on him. On us? he says. Yeah , on us. John tells her that has realized that he is the kind of man that when he loves, loves forever. He doesn't lose those feelings. (No, he just loses his BRAIN). He says that he will knock down any roadblock to get to it and he used to think that was so great. Better than men who floated in and out of romances never experiencing any great passion or pain. But now he has experienced that pain, he would quite like to trade places. Marlena, who is standing behind him tells him that his passion and his commitment to those he loves is what makes him who he is. He says he never expected for this to happen so soon after Isabella, can she explain that one to him. Marlena tells him she doesn't have an answer for it. Again he tells her she has to go *right now*. With tears in her eyes, she asks if he's going away and with a struggle, he says it's what he has to do. She nods and says that she will say goodbye and wish he and Brady luck. He says thank-you and they turn away from each other. Before she takes a step however, Marlena's tears begin to fall She whispers that she can't. She can't be in the same room with him and say goodbye and pretend it doesn't matter. She turns and says that she can't pretend it isn't ..breaking her heart. She can't face weeks, or months .or never seeing him again. She pleads with him, saying she can't face that. The tears are spilling down her cheeks and holds out her hand to him. He turns and says that if he even *touches* her He reaches his hand out to her shaking one, but cannot touch her and pulls it away. He tells her that he chooses to stay . And she looks relieved until he adds with his decision to leave Salem. He tells her he is going to need her help though. After several moments, she nods through her misery and taking up her purse, she slowly walks to the door and exits the loft.
Tuesday 2nd February 1993
(Monday 8th September 1997 in NZ)
Roman goes to see Abe at the hospital. Lexie tells him there's no change, and she's been there all night. She's scared that he won't make it. Roman says he will. He's got to make it. Roman tells Lexie to take a break - he'll sit with Abe. Lexie hesitantly decides she *could* use a cup of coffee, so she leaves. Roman tells Abe he's already made it through the toughest part - not to give up now. He's always been a fighter and he'll fight through this, too. They want him back. Abe sputters a little as Roman watches in amazement....
Bo thanks Billie for sticking her neck out for Abe. Billie says she's freaked - Cash saw her. He knows she ratted him out and he *will* try to find her. Billie says Cash saw her behind the tree when Bo and Roman dragged him out of the bar. Bo says she should have left when the gettin' was good. Bo says he'll protect her and Billie says she doesn't need his help (before stomping off). Carrie and Sami come up and say they just heard Abe was shot (what??? That happened like *forever* ago!). Bo says he's still unconscious and Roman's in there with him now.
Kim tells Phillip that one of her patients told her something that she might have to tell Bo. Phillip asks if it was a criminal and Kim said no, but she might have to tell Bo for Bo's sake. Says what she knows will effect a lot of people. Phillip tells Kim she has to stay out of trouble with the law - after all, she has the murder charge around her neck. Sandra comes up and tells Phillip that she's working on a expose on the murder at the Alamansion. She's heard that Bo's trying to prove Lisanne's death wasn't an accident. She heads off, gloating how he'll produce what she wants him to since it's her show (yeah, yeah, yeah). Phil starts grilling Kim about the murder and about her patient, making her quite uncomfortable. She says she can't go to the police straight away.
Carly finds Jenn (in the rain) at Salem Place and tells her Kim knows 'her secret' (about Lisanne's death). Jack sticks his head under the umbrella - "What secret?" Jenn tells Jack they were talking about a secret recipe (in the rain?? - aha! Jack pointed that out!). He was hoping for some kind of a secret that might help the Spectator. He reminds them that the Spectator *was* the first to break the story of Abe's shooting. He heads off to the hospital to interview a doctor and leaves Jenn and Carly to try to figure out what to do. Carly says Nikki's still not ready to find out about her and Lawrence being his parents. And she hopes Nikki doesn't find out more about Lisanne's death.
Austin sees an old college friend at Salem Place - friend's working at the Spectator now. Austin tell him he's working on the essay to enter Carrie in the Face of the '90s contest and that he needs someone to take the pictures. Since the friend's a photographer, why doesn't *he* give it a whirl...but the pics have to be taken secretly - Carrie doesn't know he's entered her.
Jenn drops by the studio to bring the stage manager a present and Sandra catches her, bein' a *twit* and gloating about the show (hate her, mean it). One of the crew tells Jenn (after Sandra leaves) that Sandra is Hades on Wheels. Jenn sees what she has lined up and almost freaks when she sees the Alamain mansion murder. Alice is talking to Sami when Caroline comes up. Caroline goes off to take Lexie some chowder (well, take her *something* - this being Caroline, we're *assuming* it's chowder). Sami and Carrie talk about "the guy" and "the guy" neither realizing that the "guys" they're talking about are the same "guy" (Austin).
Jonah comes in (JONAH!!!) and finds Lexie. He apologizes for not coming sooner. Roman comes in and tells Lexie there's someone asking for her. "Abe?" and she takes off running.
Kim finds Bo in the hospital just as Carly walks up and tells him she has to talk to him about the Gardner case (as we fade on Carly's *stunned* and *horrified* expression - yawn) Kim asks Bo how far he's willing to pursue the case. He says until he finds out the truth and she asks even if that jeopardizes her relationship with Carly? Bo nearly freaks asking why all of a sudden she's on Carly's side. Bo says he's given Carly every chance to be honest with him. He knows Kim knows more than she's telling when she tells him to give Carly another chance with Carly. Carly tells Kim she needs to speak with her in private and Bo accuses her of keeping *everything* a secret. Carly tells Kim not to tell Bo about Nikki. Kim says that Phillip pointed out she can't keep something that deals with a crime a secret. Carly says it wasn't a crime - Kim says a woman died. Kim's late for an appointment. Toodles. Bo and Carly chit-chat (not so friendly on Bo's side....he's a bit miffed). Jenn calls Carly and tells her to get down to the studio as fast as she can (a *doctor* can just *walk out* like *that*?)
Jack comes to the station where Roman is now working and tells him he wants more info on the shooting. Roman 'no comments' everything Jack says and throws a yammering Jack out of the office and into Billie - calling her "Miss Fender Bender '93". Roman tells Billie to have a seat and tells her he wants to reward her for her cooperation. To her dismay, no money, but he will talk to her probation officer and see if he can get her sentence reduced. Roman answers a call about Tony Becker and Billie drops her purse so she can eaves-drop. As she leaves, she says for the *bazillionth* time that she's got to get that money. EW! Rebecca comes into Roman's office and they shop talk about Abe's shooting - the bullet pieces were too small to analyze and there's no way they can prove attempted murder.
Oh, listen to the *cheezy* music as Sami runs headlong into Austin - totally smitten and unable to speak. Abe's awake and talking to Jonah and Lexie. He asks Jonah about med school and he says it's goin' pretty good - wishing it was a little more challenging. Abe coughs as he laughs and suggest Jonah go for his law degree at the same time. Sami barges in and Abe gives her a great big ol' hug (awwww). Austin's pal finds him at the hospital (does *everybody* in Salem have radar?) and Austin sends him out to snap Carries pic. Caroline comes in, tells him he's a bright man and asks him about the essay (so she's in on it too!) until Carrie comes in and asks him about his physical therapy. He suggests they go for cappuccino.
Back at the studio, Carly shows up and Jenn tells her about Sandra's planned expose of the Alamains. Also that Sandra smells a scandal and she'll keep pushing until she pins it down. Carrie and Austin show up at Johnny Angel's and Carrie asks why he's dragging her out in the rain. She takes off to buy another round of cappuccinos while Austin darts off to the bushes to talk to the camera dude who tells him to make her smile more. Austin darts back to the table and tries to make her smile and such....They kiss, he hugs her, and signals to Mr. Camera Dude to stop. Phillip is flipping out because of Sandra. Carly's worried he can't stop her. Jenn's not so sure either. But she knows Sandra will drag Nikki into this. Jenn tells Carly to get to Bo before Sandra - but she's got to do it *now*.
Rebecca tells Roman they can't pull the charges off. Bo knows Billie heard it and tells her he'll make sure she's safe. She scampers off, able to take care of herself. Rebecca tells Bo and Roman they can plea bargain and at least get some time out of it. Sandra shows up at the police station and confronts Bo. "Maybe we can help each other." (insert rolling eyes here)
Now *everybody* is huddled around Abe and Alice comes in saying Abe has to rest - Dr's orders. Caroline tells Sami it's time for them to have a heart to heart. Lexie says Sami's always one to get in trouble - Jonah says she's full of spirit. Lexie says he likes the finer things now, doesn't he (and *how* did we get on *this* topic?). He says he guesses so. <shrug> I know there was more to this show, but my computer decided to go all googly on me and not work so let's just suffice it to say it was rather insignificant other than Caroline telling Kim and Phillip that John was leaving town. Kim immediately had to go off and find Marlena....so *that's* why she was so unlike herself earlier.
Wednesday 3rd February 1993
(Tuesday 9th September 1997 in NZ)
It's a *Mar* day! (and Mar's *last* day as an untarnished woman!)
Carrie and Sami are at Carrie's apartment. Carrie's carrying on about how romantic the day with Austin was - window-shopping in the rain (oh, yeah - drooling over clothes you can't have while getting drenched by a downpour. Sets the mood *real* quick). She can't wait for Sami to meet him and invites Sami to dinner that night. Sami reminds Carrie it's Roman and Marlena's anniversary and she doesn't want them to have to miss another one. Carrie suggests they throw a party. After donning all Carrie's make up and sticking a bow in her hair making her look like a rather ill Minnie Mouse who's been caught in a paint explosion (okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a tad), Sami heads out. Carrie isn't far behind as they go out and run around town (Sami runs into Austin once) trying to find decorations and such for the last-minute party. Sami calls Kim to invite her to the party - almost being caught by Roman (who says she looks...um....different). She runs into Jonah and invites him, then she and Carrie are back at the pub for hot cocoa (Carrie's treat? It's the *pub* - no one, especially no self-respecting Brady, pays at the pub!). Jonah's comes in - he's bought a new jacket to go clubbing tonight. Sami says she thought he was going to the party for her parents. He says he is...the *real* action in the clubs doesn't start until later. Sami says she knew that. She really did (cute little snippet there).
Larry and Ivan fret over another issued search warrant and Larry wraps the cat up in a rug and head out to the boondocks to dispose of it.
Marlena's in her office when Kim comes in for a session (hey, I thought Kim was just going to find her - and Kim said earlier in the last episode that Mar's sec'y had called to cancel her appointment because something came up....oh well. So be the world of Days....*anyhoo*....) and Kim immediately mentions John's leaving town. She asks Marlena if she's upset about it and Mar says nope. She *knows* him so well. He may say he's leaving, but he won't do it.
John shows up at Larry's house - says he stopped by to say goodbye.
Kim says Marlena's denying her feelings for John and about his leaving. Mar says no, she knows how John thinks and he's *not* going to leave town. Kim says she talked to Caroline and John was serious about leaving. Marlena says *Fine* Kim (you can tell she's a wee tad miffed through the whole scene). John could leave, but not permanently - everyone who loves him is here in Salem. She can be so sure because she was married to him. Kim points out that recently, they were stuck together in a warehouse. Mar asks 'So?' and Kim poses that maybe John's leaving town because of his feelings for Marlena and hers for him. Mar immediately denies it and Kim asks again *why* he would leave then and uproot Brady. She replies that "You know what? People move sometimes." Kim says, right, but John's not like everybody else. Marlena agrees and says he's special. He's going though a lot of confusion right now and he'll realize that leaving is unnecessary (gee, Mar, irked at Mr. BrAlaBlack much?). She says she'll wait a couple of days and talk to him when things calm down...and he'll realize he needs to stay with... 'all of us'.
John says he and Brady will be gone indefinitely and he wanted Larry to hear it from him. He tells Larry he knows it's all he can do to keep from jumping up and down and clicking his heels, and he *still* planes (oops, Freudian slip there) to donate part of the profits from Alamain Industries to charity. Victor will be handling everything in his absence. Larry says when he comes back maybe they can become better friends. John says he doubts it and all this talk about brotherly love makes him nervous here - they're *not* your typical brothers. And when he thinks of the family he's leaving behind in Salem - he doesn't think of Larry and Viv, he thinks of (Marlena and) the Bradys. (Well, *he* didn't say Marlena - *somebody* had to!).
Kim reminds Marlena she and John didn't get a chance at emotional closure to their marriage and that could come back and haunt them. Marlena slams a file drawer and Kim says oookay, maybe she doesn't wanna hear that right now. Marlena says John and Brady aren't the only one who will suffer when they leave - what about her family? What about her kids who John practically *raised* (practically? she was dead from ages really young to 6ish then they totally *skipped* the years from 8-16...looks like John did a whole HECK of a lot of the raising....)? (What about Marlena???) She *has* to talk to him and convince him he can't go. Kim says Mar should talk to him, but not to kid herself - maybe John knows best...maybe he's doing the right thing by leaving town. Mar ain't thrilled to hear that. Kim says fate's been cruel to Mar and John, but she has to let him go - it's the best thing. maybe the distance will help. Mar says Kim's getting carried away - she loves Roman...her *life* is with Roman and *nothing* is going to endanger that (for the next hour at least). Kim says Marlena's confused - she loves them both. Mar goes momentarily ballistic, slamming her hands on her desk - "*DON'T* tell me how I feel!" She immediately apologizes for snapping at her - she guesses she's just tired. Kim begs Marlena to let John go...not to stop him and not to let him long for her anymore. Because if he stays, it's just a matter of time before one of them gives into temptation. Marlena says "Listen, John and I are not *addicted* to each other you know." Kim says Marlena knows she's right - let him go...before it's too late (but she' *can't*. She *can't* let him go! She loves him too much! She *wants* him too much! She can't live without him!!! But back to the actual show)
John's playing with adoraBrady when Roman comes to the door. He stopped by to talk about Bo's investigation into Lisanne's death...and since John's Larry's brother.... John asks why he's really here. Roman says he wanted to clear the air between them before he leaves. John says he's leaving tonight - something came up (can you say *Marlena*???). John and Roman talk - John says any man with half a pulse would have been a little resentful of the situation Roman was put in...and of John assuming his life. Roman says John was a better man than he could have been in the situation - John stepped aside and let Roman have his life and his family back...and he admires him for that. (WOW what a great scene) He wishes John the best and John returns the sentiment. Roman asks if John's told Marlena about the change in plans and John says he'll call her later. John asks Roman to take care of Doc and the kids. He's glad Roman and Marlena are happy - and that everyone can count on him. Roman tells John not to worry he'll take care of them all (can we SCREAM at Reilly now for killing *this* Roman??? *This* is the real Roman! *This* is the Roman we *adore*!! Then Reilly turned him into FauxRoWayne which was just an evil curly haired one and *then* into Fauxman - the anti-Roman! ACK!)
John stops by the pub with Brady to say goodbye. Caroline asks if he's doing the best thing - John says he is. Says he's said goodbye to everybody, Lawrence, Roman.... Marlena? Nope he's about to take care of that. He leaves Brady with Caroline (baby nurse will pick him up in a couple of days time) after saying a rather touching goodbye and I love you. As he starts to leave, he sees Marlena (in that *coat* that he's gonna rip off of her in a little while!) outside the pub. She debates on going in, then decides against it. John hides behind the frosted window and watches until she's gone.
Marlena shows up at the police station (something was going on in there before she came on, but I missed it - whoops!). Ickthing excuses herself and leaves Marlena with Roman ;) They kiss and he offers to take her out for an evening together, but one bit of bad news. Marlena asks "I'm buying?" ;) and Roman says, no...John's leaving earlier than planned. She asks when and he says tonight. He gets a phone call and has to leave as Marlena stands there kinda stunned.
John finds a note under the door - info about the flight tonight. Phone rings - answering machine picks up - it's Marlena....she can't believe he'd leave without saying goodbye. She wants to talk before he goes. Please. She's at the office - just call him. He almost picks up the phone, but doesn't. In her office, Marlena decides (*outloud and to herself*) that she can't risk him not getting the message, so she grabs that great rippable coat and leaves. Marlena shows up at the loft and knocks on the door. She says through the door that she knows he's home - she's not leaving until they talk.
Thursday 4th February 1993 and Friday 5th February 1993
(Wednesday 10th September and Thursday 11th September 1997 in NZ)
Da Plane! Da Plane! Here come da plane!! (Part une et part deux)
Marlena knocks on the loft door and (maintenance man??) comes up and lets her in (this is *not* a safe building - Marlena could be some psychopath for all he knows!). She walks in.
John and Victor get on the plane and Vic tries to get him to reconsider. He stares out the window at the rain that looks like it may delay things for a while. (Oh, just *admit* it - you're *willing* her to come to the plane! It's that psychic connection you two have!!!)
Victor's unsettled about how fast all this is going. John tells him it's just something he's got to do - he can't go on in Salem anymore. Vic asks if it's because of a woman and John says no...it's a decision he's come to on his own. Vic is *positive* there's a woman involved and tells John walking away isn't going to help. He tells John to talk to her and tell her she wants to stay in Salem, but that he can't under the circumstances.
Marlena's in the loft and comes down from upstairs - his clothes were all gone. She asks dude what flight he was on - she couldn't imagine him leaving without saying goodbye. The dude says he needs to go check on the boiler, so he leaves Mar in the loft - she needs to make a phone call (oh *great* move there Einstein...leave a strange woman in a missing tenants loft!). Marlena starts to call the airport, but before she gets through, she finds the piece of paper with the gate number on it and realizes he's really gone.
John says he can't explain it. Victor says going to Europe isn't going to help him forget her. He knows - he's been there. John says, well, they're...they're different people (really? I thought John and Vic were one and the same!!). Vic's ticked because John's taking Brady away and tells John that he can avoid this kind of goodbyes - just don't leave! John says nope - not gonna happen - he's going to Italy. He's going to visit IzzyB's grave, put up a stone. Vic tells him to go to her favorite church, say a prayer and light a candle. He hugs John and tells him God speed and leaves. John sniffs. Then he picks up the phone to call the tower.
Marlena's *DRIVING TO THE PLANE*. Oh. She's actually driving *home* when a barrage of flashbacks flood into her mind - the night RoJohn proposed to her in the hospital in '86, Christmas '92 when she gave him the watch, the night before the interview with Jennifer ("Memories should stay with us - Memories are what make up who we are - and I will always have mine with me"). She says she can't and does a really long u-turn to, surprisingly enough, turn around.
John's talking to the tower who tells him the storm's grounded all flights - airtraffic controller dude will keep him informed. John sits down and fiddles with the phone and his wedding ring when he dials....he starts to leave a message on RoMar's machine (more for Marlena than for Roman since they've already said goodbye). He tells her he's leaving for Europe tonight and will be in touch once he's settled in, but it might not be for a while, so he just wanted to say goodbye and.... and he hangs up and stands up and *there she is*. On the plane with him. And he's *stunned*.
Marlena says she's glad she got there before it's too late - he can't leave like this. He says it's best. But he doesn't know why he's saying it's best - it's not best. He asks why she came here and she asks if he's sure he's doing the right thing. He's says she's sure. "John look at me." "It's not going to make any difference, Doc." "I just want to see your face. Surely you'll allow me that, won't you?" "Allow you?"....
Okay. I'm getting *way* too into this thing to summarize and watch. You guys *know* the routine by now. And if you don't, have a look in the '93 section of J M Scrumpfest (http://www.john-marlena.com/scrumpfest/scrumpfest.html) It's *all* in there. Every last little juicy detail. WOWZA.
But in case you're a little slow and haven't memorized it breath by breath and move by move, let me summarize it up quite quickly (unless you'd like to call NZ and have Rach and I recite it word for word). She goes to the plane - tries to convince him not to leave - he says he has to - she says he can't...she can't live without him...she needs him (though she *means* to say she *WANTS* him)...they're sobbing and all angsty - he's freefalling - he touches her hand - flames, flames, sparks, fire, electricity, heat, steam, smoke, LIFT OFF and badabing badaboom, they do it until they're blue in the face....or at least until she's pink in the cheeks and purple on the lips. There's a loverly after glow where the looming guilt for Marlena begins and John asks the question you *wish* he'd remember 4 years later - "Now that we have opened up our hearts, are we ever going to be able to close them?" Answer: NO! But you won't remember that when you're bonking that Kritter, will you now, Mr. BrAlaBlack??
Marlena returns to the house, glad to see that the light's aren't on...guess that means nobody's home. Wrongers! Surprise party for hers and Roman's anniversary. Marlena's thrown for a *major* loop and stammers around, not *quite* sure how to deal with a celebration of her marriage after she just tarnished her halo. Well wishes from the familiy have her near tears and desperately attempting to keep her composure (they all think it's surprise). Let the guilt trip begin! She does a lot of head shaking and nodding as she looks like she could throw up. Sami asks if she forgot today was her anniversary and you can just *hear* her screaming "Oh, GOD! I just bonked JOHN on my anniversary!" Yeah, I'd say that was a bit of a whoops.... Roman tells Sami to let her mama catch her breath. Caroline comes over and grabs Sami ("Samiii, Samiiii, bip bip bip bip" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA). Roman tells Marlena she looks more surprised than he was when he walked in. (Well, gee, Roman, that *could* be because you didn't just bonk Taylor...on your anniversary...and come home to a housefull of happy people celebrating your long, happy, and oh so faithful marriage). Caroline, Sami, and Carrie bring out the cake iced with "Roman and Marlena 4 Ever". Sami tells Roman and Marlena that it's time for them to cut the first piece (though Marlena looks like she'd rather be cutting her wrists). They cut the cake - Roman helps a trembling Marlena and suggests they split one. He feeds her the first bite and asks how it is. She says it's really good (yeah, it got the taste of John out of her mouth, so *that* is a definite plus). Roman tastes it and announces they *finally* have someone who can cook in the family.
Marlena manages to get away for a split second and almost loses it before Kim scares the bejeebers out of it. Kim says it's not just the surprise party, is it? It's the fact that John left today, isn't it? (Well, you see, Kimmy, remember that 'temptation' think you were talking about earlier? Yeah...well....that kinda....fell apart.) Partygoers call for a speech and Roman toasts his beautiful (yeah...), loving (yeah...), and ever faithful (wellll......) wife (as a crack of thunder is heard from outside - and that's *never* a good sign) who through their many years together (many? Let's see....81 until....um....84 - that's 3. Then 91 until....this is 93 - that's another two years - Ooh! 5 years is MANY??) has made him the happiest man in the world. She says she loves him - she just loves him so much. (and she does...she *really* does....she just kinda loves John, too. But it'll be another 4 1/2 years before Susan tells her you can do that).
Phillip tells Kim he wants their marriage to be just like Roman and Marlena's (you mean he wants a guy to come in, think he's him for 6 years, then have Kim's heart split for the rest of her life?) Marlena tells Roman that she loves him and he says he knows she loves him. But she wants to make *sure* he knows how much and that he never forgets. Roman says he's reminded of that everytime he looks at her, everytime he touches her, he knows how much she loves him. They *kiss* as she fights back tears. He says he never thought he could love her more than he did on the day her married her, but tonight, he realizes that he loves her more everyday. She has made him one very lucky guy. With that, she lowers her head, virtually sobbing. Roman pulls her close and hugs her as we see John walking up to the front door....
Okay. Summary finished. There were other people, but with these two going at it like it's going out of style and with this powerhouse combo of acting, they're just very bad patterned wallpaper and annoying fly-buzzes of background noise.
