Bo runs into Carly at the medvan stall in Salem Place. He asks about Nikki and Carly tells him they had a funeral for Zeus at sunrise this morning. She asks about Shawn-D and Bo says he's good. Later he tells her that he is getting Ivan down for a polygraph test today and he should know who killed Lisanne by the end of the day. After he leaves Carly is stressing out about the whole thing when Jenn turns up. She takes Carly back to her house where she eventually squeezes the truth out of her about who she is protecting.
Billie decides in her bid to find her money, to put a classified in the Spectator. She gets it in for the morning edition and Jack, in his first day back reads the proof sheet and realizes it is for him. Meanwhile in Julie's office, she gets a phone call. She calls Alice, Tom Mickey and Maggie together and tells them that she got a phone call from a friend of Doug's in Switzerland. He said that Doug had been in an accident and wasn't responding very well. They all tell her to go and they (very touchingly) all say goodbye. (LOVE Julie. This was JERK's very FIRST mistake.)
Carrie wakes up Austin with breakfast and a steamy kiss or five. Billie arrives and the phone rings so Carrie leaves the apartment. Austin receives a package containing boxing gloves and realizes that Gus sent them. Later he is down outside the pub when Gus stops him. Don't really know what happened at this point due to the itchy ff finger. I'm assuming Gus told him he wants him to fight again. Maybe. Anyway...later Austin is back at the apartment, reading the very first issue of Bella....and I am assuming about the Face of the '90's contest (ff finger again) when Carrie comes home. He stuffs the magazine under the couch and (I am in ff again)....
Marlena comes in from the hospital and she and Roman talk about Sami and her unexpected high-dive from the window. Roman is distressed that he could have shot his daughter. Marlena tells him not to think about it, he didn't. She asks if Sami is awake yet...he doesn't think so, her door is still closed but in fact she is listening at the kitchen door. They talk about the Carrie/Austin situation for a few moments before Sami makes her entrance. Marlena asks her why she came home and she says because she was homesick. She wanted to sleep in her own bed. They are upset that she wanted to go to private school and spent only a few weeks there after they paid tuition and board but she tells them she doesn't want to go back. She asks Marlena how Carrie is....is she happy and Marlena says yes she is, and heads over to phone her. Later Sami manages to avoid more questioning about her homecoming when the doorbell goes. She races over, moving astonishingly fast on her sprained ankle (as Mar notes) and is thrilled to see it's Bo. Bo wants Roman to sign the appropriate forms for the polygraph test but Roman won't. (Being as this incarnation of Roman can be a little pig-headed ;0)) Marlena tries to approach Sami once again but Carrie arrives with some bagels for her little sister. After a tense semi-silence with Marlena and her father, Carrie and Sami go into the kitchen. When they come out Carrie has managed to pull a stuffed panda-bear out of thin air for Sami (clever those Brady's!). Roman wants Carrie to come over for dinner...alone. She ain't having a bar of it and she leaves. Marlena (in extremely and almost irritatingly persistent mode today) asks Sami AGAIN why she came back. Sami wants to wash her hair. Marlena tells her it can wait. Roman, just off the phone tells her to go ahead. Mar is not thrilled. But Roman suggests that maybe they can let Sami stay....
Bo gets permission to call Ivan in for a polygraph test. They ask him about the cat and he reacts a little. But he doesn't fail the test they can't prove that he was lying or telling the truth. However once Ivan and Lawrence leave, they discover the change in heartbeat when they asked about the cat.
Carly talks to Jenn for a while longer and then heads off to the hospital. Jenn heads down to Jacks office and asks Vern to pull up the Lisanne Gardner file.
John comes over to the house to see Sami. He tells her she just can't skip out on her responsibilities. Roman and Marlena paid for her school and she can't just skip out. Marlena tells him that she's been telling Sami the same thing and John tells Sami he knows she's not a quitter. They talk about Eric, Sami says how much he loves it in Colorado and how well he is doing in school. She tells John that now Eric says he is glad that John used to yell at him to do his schoolwork. John says he didn't used to yell, and he turns to Marlena and asks did he? She nods her head and says yes (and how would she know?) Then Sami says that Dad used to yell too but not as much. They take her down to the hospital where she has an x-ray on her ankle. It's just strained and while Marlena is checking on a patient, she tells John that when Marlena and Roman were in Colorado, things were strained between them and Marlena was having bad nightmares. She says it must have been awful for Marlena in the pit but then tells John that even though it was awful, she is glad he was there for her. Marlena calls Roman to confirm their dinner date at Chez Vous (where, incidentally, John and Rebecca have also arranged to have dinner. Ugh!)
Earlier at the station, Roman had gotten a call from an informant about a drug shipment coming in but Abe offers to go instead since Roman has plans. He gets down to the wharf where Cash and another guy are having a fight. He manages to get in the way when a shot is fired. Back at the station, Roman is told a man has gone down. When they tell him it's at the pier he realizes Abe was there and grabs his jacket to get down there
Julie calls Alice from Zurich. They won't tell her where Doug is. She is in what is supposed to be his room but he is not there. Alice tells her to go down to the desk and demand to see him. While she is on the phone, Doug walks into the room. He sneaks out and when she turns around he is sitting in a wheelchair in front of her. She tries to convince him that he should be in a major medical facility but he tells her he wants her to nurse him. Unfortunately for him at that moment a nun comes in and takes away the wheelchair, leaving him standing in front of his not so pleased ex-wife, He tells her it was the only way he could get her over there and tells her that he can't stand it without her. He says he can't believe she divorced him that last time and she says he was the one that signed the stupid divorce papers first. Then he asks her to marry him again and she says she can't, she already married him twice and she can't make that mistake again. She won't leave Salem and all her family and Doug asks her if she is happy. He says if she is he will book tickets on the plane home. She tells him that he should book the tickets then, but before she leaves he gives her a gift which he tells her not to open until she gets home. When she is gone he picks up a picture of her and starts to sing 'the most beautiful girl in the world'. As he puts the picture down he hears the music. In the doorway Julie is holding a silver music box. She says that he knew that she wouldn't wait till she got home to open the gift and he says that he hoped she wouldn't. She wants to hear those words again and he asks 'for the last time'? She tells him, no, for the rest of her life (Awwww ..)
At the Brady Pub, John meets with Victor. Vic sees him looking at his wedding ring and asks him if he is thinking of taking it off. John says he is not sure and Vic tells him he will know if and when the time is right. He tells John that he has decided he wants someone to go to Italy and check on some charity organizations he and Isabella contributed to and asks John if he knows of anyone suitable. John just might
Sami is helping Marlena get ready when she points out that a pair of earrings on the dresser go with her outfit much better than the ones she has on. Marlena says she knows but she doesn't feel like wearing them tonight. Sami asks if she wonders how she knows so much about her jewelry. Marlena presumes it was because she used to play dress up when she was gone. Sami tells her that sometimes John used to let them look at her jewelry and he used to tell them the stories about the pieces, saying it might help them feel closer to Marlena. She says that John told her that he gave those earrings to Marlena on a date, but she can't understand why Marlena doesn't wear them more. Marlena gives in and puts them on.
Roman gets down to the wharf and discovers that Abe has already lost a lot of blood. The paramedics get him to the hospital and he is taken straight into surgery. Lexie (one that I have never seen before) arrives and Roman tells her that it not looking good, Abe has lost so much blood. He tells her it was his fault, he should have been there and not Abe but Lexie tells him he cannot blame himself. Later Carly and another doctor come out of surgery and tell them that they had to close up Abe before they got all the shrapnel out and he is touch and go. Rebecca is down there, organizing in her own obnoxious way and at the same time both she and Roman realize that they are missing dinner with their respective partners.
Funnily enough those respective partners are seated at adjoining tables at Chez Vous. Marlena tells John how Sami helped to pick out her outfit. He asks if it was the whole outfit and she self-consciously touches the earrings and tells him that yes it was the *whole* outfit. He says he remembers the first time he gave her those earrings .and the first time he took them off. He apologizes for bringing that up and they decide to have a drink together while they are waiting for Roman and Rebecca. They decide they like the new restaurant but Marlena says she can't give them a good grade on their service. John reminds her of the little restaurant they used to go to all the time called Dino's (?) where the service was appalling. Marlena laughs and asks him why they kept going back. He says he thinks it was just a good excuse to stare into each other's eyes. He apologizes once again and Marlena says that they promised not to do thin. They promised to be just good friends. They are not entirely through with their conversation when the call comes from Roman that Abe has been shot. Together they race for the hospital
There was some stuff with Nikki and Viv and Lawrence and Carly and Kim .which basically culminated in Nikki telling Kim about how he pushed Lisanne and Kim working out that it was he who killed her.
Commissioner Samuels wants Roman to take over Abe's job and Roman asks Bo to take over the field investigation. Marlena and John rush to the hospital where Marlena comforts Roman. Alice asks John if he's okay noting that he has had more than enough tragedy in his life already. John tells her he is fine and then sees Roman and Marlena together again. Icky Bicky comes up behind him and tells him that Roman and Marlena are lucky to have each other. (Yeah rub it in why don't you?) She disappears and Roman goes off to do some work. Kim arrives and takes Lexie off to a private lounge, which leaves John and Marlena alone. They turn to each other at the same time and ask how the other is doing. John says he is holding up but he is worried about her. She and Abe are such good friends and she is busy being strong for everyone else. Marlena says she will be fine she has to be for Roman.
Roman goes to see Abe and talks to him, telling him he has to live. Marlena comes in and he says that it should have been him. She tells him it shouldn't have been anyone. Just then the pitch on Abe's monitor lowers and Marlena says "on my god!" She rushes out of the cubicle and calls Carly in. Carly tells Roman that the coagulants are working and Abe's condition is stabilizing.
Bo takes Billie down to the pier and tries to talk her into telling him whose turf the pier is. He wants to know because he thinks whoever it is, is the one who shot Abe. He almost gets her to crack but at the last moment she tells him that she can't tell him anything. Bo goes after her while Cash, who is lurking under the pier watches them go.
John goes to see Victor and tells him that he wants to go to Italy himself, but tells him that he is going to need more than a couple of weeks, probably several months, or more. Vic gets upset and tells him he has rearranged his business so that he can be near his family. John says he didn't realize that they meant that much to him, but that he feels as if he needs to get away from Salem. Victor notes that he is fiddling with his wedding ring and asks John what he is funning away from. When John doesn't answer, Vic asks if he's running away from a woman. John tells Victor that he doesn't want to discuss it but this is for the best.
Roman and Marlena walk down to the pier. Roman wants to look for clues. Marlena tells him that he is part of the reason that Abe is pulling through. She says that people have to have the will to live. She knows that because when she was down in the pit the thing that got her through was her incredible love for him and the kids. He walks around the pier while she looks out over the water, but her eyes fill with tears as she has unexpected memories of her and John on this pier after their interview, declaring their love.
They go to the pub after where Caroline brings Brady out. Marlena takes him and feeds him the rest of his bottle. Roman thinks she looks great with a baby in her arms. She tells him that he can't even manage Samantha. He smiles and says that they are cute when they are that age. She says that this one is. Caroline comes out and tells them that she thinks he looks like *both* John and Isabella., Isabella's mouth and John's sensitive eyes.
Billie goes to the pub and gets sidetracked by Cash who warns her not to open her mouth that the pier is his territory. He leaves and then Lexie comes out and thanks Billie for helping her at the hospital and says that this won't be over till they find the punk who did this. Billie goes down to the pier and finds Bo. She says that she doesn't know why she is being so stupid as to help him but she thinks she knows who shot Abe Carver.
Back at the pub, John comes in and sees Marlena, they say hi and he explains that he has come to pick Brady up. Roman brings him over and says that he's been trying to persuade Marlena to have another baby. A *look* is exchanged between John and Marlena that would peel paint off the walls. Caroline tells him that they always love to look after Brady and Roman chimes in saying that if Caroline can't that he can bring Brady over and they will look after him, it might give Marlena some ideas. Marlena smiles with some embarrassment until John tells them that they better get the hugs in while they can because Brady won't be around much longer. All three (especially Marlena) look a little shocked when he says they are leaving Salem.
