Bo and Billie find Austin and Carrie, the goons have spilt leaving Austin bleeding on the ground. They get him to hospital where Carly says he has a lot of trauma to the head and they are not sure how it is going to go. Billie accuses Carrie saying that it was her fault and that she doesn't understand Austin - she's never had life hard. Carrie says that's not fair, she lost her father and then her step-mom, then she had to go stay with her real mom who didn't want her. She just doesn't shove it down people's throats like Billie. (Hey! A Carrie with a back-bone!) She tells Billie that she hasn't cornered the market on suffering. Billie apologises to Carrie and they hug. Then they go into see Austin who is still unconscious.
Jack comes into the house and tells everyone that Jenn has to buy the furniture to go. They do and Jenn is furious. Jack is too drunk to tell her what happened. Instead - while she is upstairs he stuffs the money in a vase. But before she goes up to bed, Jenn throws out the vase, not realizing.
Roman takes Marlena to the pub gives her some bags and tells her to go upstairs, Caroline is up there and knows what's happening. Next time we see them they are standing in line to get into the Marx Brother's festival at the picture theatre. Roman is doing a *great* Groucho and Marlena isn't a half bad Harpo. ;0) Marlena tells Roman that one of her patients might see her and then she spots a couple of candy-stripers. They are talking about how embarrassing the ‘old people' are being. Then they realize that it's Dr. Evans at which point Marlena buries her head in Roman's shoulder. ;0) Then Marlena sees John and honks at him. He looks at her and they do the mirroring actions for a few moments until John asks her if she's lost something. She honks and nods. He asks what and she pants and then whines. He says oh your dog. That's sad, he wishes he could help her but he doesn't have a handkerchief. She pulls out a handkerchief (eventually), in fact it's about 10 knotted together. Then Groucho asks John to join them as Chico. John isn't sure but Marlena pulls a wig and hat out of her voluminous pockets and they send him off to get changed. In the next scene they are in watching a Day At The Races and laughing uproariously. John goes to get popcorn and then later Marlena tells Roman that his favourite scene is coming up. She tells her he has never seen Day At the Races and she says Oh, (staring at John, a little distractedly) she mush have been thinking of Night at The Opera. After they come out Marlena goes off to get three cappuccino's and John tells Roman he is happy that they are doing okay. When Marlena comes back, Rebecca (ick) walks past and John stops her. She asks them if they are on the cutting edge of fashion and then tells Roman she wants half an hour of his time - she wants to go over tomorrow's case. Marlena tells him to go one - she'll stay here and honk at John ;0) She asks John if he's ready for the interview and he tells her he doesn't know. He asks her if she is and she says yes. He says sharing her feelings in front of everybody? She tells him she'll see when Jenn starts asking her the questions. John muses that maybe there are some memories that are better left in the past. She tells him that she doesn't think so. “Memories should stay with us. Memories are what make us who we are. And I will always have mine with me." Then Roman comes back and Rebbeca invites herself off to meet Brady. The look on Marlena's face says it all. Roman and Marlena head for home......
Skipped through most of this one.
Jack finds out that Jenn trashed the vase and has to fight with the garbage man to get it back. Later Jo comes round and he tells her how he got it, so she tries to persuade him to give it back. When he finds out that the barn is owned by the city she attempts to persuade him to turn it in to the police. He thinks about it but we all know Jack. Jenn and Phillip go to see Marlena to talk about the upcoming interview (although we don't see that). Then they go back to the studio where Phillip tells Jenn that TPTB have some questions that they want to ask. She agrees to look at them and then gets on a kick about a child care facility at work....
Austin is still in a coma. Billie and Carrie are asleep in the room when Carly comes in, in the morning. She sends him down for a cat scan and later she tells Carrie and Billie that Austin may have brain damage when and if he comes out of the coma. He comes out at the end.
Bo has to talk to Carly about Austin's accident and she tries to get him to talk about them. He asks her if she's ready to trust him and when there's no answer forthcoming he leaves. Later she is driving home when she is stopped. It's Bo and he tells her she's coming with him....
Pretty much nothing happened in this ep....
Carly and Bo had a conversation about getting married or not
Carly and Lawrence argued over when to tell Nikki....after Lawrence looked for an exquisite stone for an engagement ring for Carly.
There must have been some Jack and Jenn stuff but I can't remember....
Austin came out from the coma and seemed to be alright - apart from the badly broken arm....Roman discovered Carrie's name in the police report and headed down to the hospital to find out what's going on. Carrie won't tell him any thing and she tells him that if she has to choose between him and Austin she'll choose Austin....
Marlena is at Wings waiting on John (dinner before the hot stuff!)
when Rebecca waltzes in. She asks Marlena about Kimberly and
Marlena says she's getting better. Marlena asks if that's really why
she came and Rebecca says no. Actually, she came to talk about John.
How can she get him to..."notice me as a woman" (Rachie's comment -
it would be nice if you *were* a woman. We hate her - mean it).
Marlena is stunned. Rebecca says she'd normally never dream of
asking another woman about how to attract a man (Mar says she
wouldn't think she'd have a problem with that
John joins Mar and Rebecca at Wings and apologizes to Mar for being
late. Rebecca gives him advice on dealing with Lawrence and offers
her
services (blah blah blah) - she's flirting with him bigtime, as much as
you can flirt through shop talk. John says they can discuss it at
dinner tonight (Mar looks like she's gonna puke), then she leaves
(finally!). John and Marlena discuss Ecosystems and Lawrence.
Conversation quickly changes to The Jennifer Devereaux Show.
Marlena asks if he's ready and he says he's not really one for public
displays, but maybe it's just stage fright. She says she thinks she has
it, too, and reminds him they don't have to talk about anything
difficult or intimate - just tell Jennifer what happened and how they
dealt with it. John says that's a tall order to fill - they went through
a lot in that hole. They thought they were going to die. Marlena
admits she's been having nightmares, and once she wakes up she
can't remember what they were about. Maybe it's just post-
traumatic stress syndrome. John says he's been having dreams
himself - he can't really describe them...he can't really pin them
down. Marlena thinks this will be good for them. She tells him to
just look at her and Jennifer and talk right to them - tell them how
they feel and he'll be safe, she promises. (The look in his
eyes....wowza). He says maybe she'll be right. Maybe it will be
cathartic and they can put it all behind them.
J&M arrive at the studio and are dragged off to make-up. Jenn asks
if they have questions and Mar asks how they get out of doing it ;o)
John says they'll be just fine once they flash up the lights. Jenn says
it's going to be a ratings smash. Talking to Phillip, Jenn tells Phillip
she's reworded the execs questions and promises him a heart-
wrenching story.
John and Marlena tell Jenn they wouldn't be doing the show if they
didn't feel safe in her hands - Jenn mumbles she just hopes she can
go through with this.
The interview starts with a pretty gruesome overview of the whole
Stella ordeal. Jenn asks Marlena if her professional training was key
to her survival. Marlena said at first, she thought that would help
her convince Stella to release her, but Stella was too far gone. Jenn
asks John about his training and he says it helped some. She then
asks what it was like to be stuck in there knowing it was about to be
"blown to Kingdom Come." He says Marlena's more qualified to
answer since she was stuck in there much longer. Marlena says she
was confused and had some memory loss at times - she even saw her
sister Samantha. Jenn asks if she was on the brink of death and
Marlena just nods with a hummed, "Mmmhmm."
Out of the blue (and catching both of them off guard), Jenn says
viewers may not know John and Marlena were once married. But it
was an odd situation and they didn't get a divorce like most couples
would. Did being trapped together bond them together again?
Marlena simply says “We've always been very close." Jenn then
delves deeper - “Is it possible that you never fell out of love?" On
Marlena's discomfort, John's uncertain gaze, and Jennifer's gulp,
hoping she's doing the right thing. The scene fades.
As the interview continues, Jenn asks if they realized they were still
in love while they were trapped in the warehouse. John says he and
Marlena really want to talk about the experience and how they're
dealing with it now - not what's happened in the past. Jenn keeps
digging though, suggesting that since they were so close in the past,
maybe they flew together and let their feelings out. John says they
were just concerned about survival and getting out before the
building was levelled. Jenn presses on and asks if they had any
residual feelings for each other. John doesn't want to answer, and
Marlena agrees that it's unfair, but she would like to answer....(John
ain't too sure about this). She says if two people love each other
deeply and something happens, circumstances change and they
separate, ‘a part of that love will always stay in place.' Jenn asks
Marlena what went through her mind when she heard Stella was
dead. Marlena admits she thought she was going to die, but it wasn't
acceptance of that fact - she still had moments of optimism. Jenn
asks if she drempt of Roman coming to rescue her and Marlena says
she did - she thought about Roman, her children. She tells Jenn her
life didn't flash before her eyes. Her memories weren't chronological
- one memory would trigger another and so on. Jenn once again
pulls the questions back to John. Did she ever dream of John coming
to rescue her? Mar says it's only natural in that state that she'd have
memories of John - she even thought John was Roman at one point.
Jenn asks if John's presence seemed like a miracle to Marlena. Mar
says she thought she was hallucinating at first, and she was
overjoyed when she realized he was actually there (it is at this point
that I *really* wish I had Farnie's descriptive talents - the looks that
are flying here - WOW). Jenn asks if the whole experience was deja
vu. John says it was and Jenn goes on to explain to the audience
about Marlena's plane going down five years ago. He must have
thought it was a miracle when she showed up at his door and threw
her arms around him. John says it didn't happen like that and
Marlena says she didn't know how to tell him she was back - so she
stayed in the background for a while. Jenn then asks the question
that has them looking at each other as you can *tell* those feelin's
are *really* resurfacing now - 'How did you reunite?" John,
obviously uncomfortable, says it was on pier 29. He had been
subliminally drawn there and when he was about to leave, he heard
his name. Marlena says she was hoping to find him there. John adds
that he'd never seen a ghost before, but he thought he was looking at
one then - (he can't take his eyes off her at this point) he says even
when she spoke, he didn't believe it. Not until he held her in his
arms. Marlena looks at him briefly, then turns around an swallows
(an “is it just me or is it getting warm in here" kind of swallow). He
says he was determined to do whatever it took in that warehouse not
to lose her again. Jenn says they defied odds by trusting in that hope
and drawing strength from their love. And the interview is over.
Jenn apologizes for some of the questions being so personal and
Phillip thanks them. Jenn feels bad about what she just did to John
and Marlena and Phillip says she still wasn't tough enough.
John and Marlena talk about Rebecca and John says he's interested
in
working with her, but not interested personally. Marlena excuses
herself, Roman's waiting. John stands behind kinda stunned by the
whole thing...
(working on that brevity problem now.....so I don't *totally* lose your
attention before THE PIER!)
Marlena goes to the Pub to meet Roman who hasn't seen the show.
She's not all that disappointed. She tells him she's ‘much better live
and in person.' They talk about the case and Roman says he'll be
able to spend more time with her soon. Some man comes up and
tells Marlena she and John Black sure gave the audience their
money's worth - Roman says now he has to see it.
John's at dinner with Ickthing (Sorry - but she's growing OFF of me
more and more everytime she snivels). They're talking about
business when she mentions watching the tape of the show. She says
she realized something while she was watching it - he's still in love
with Marlena. John says she's getting a little personal - he thought
this was supposed to be a business meeting. John makes sure
shedoesn't think they're on a date and she says she doesn't -
especially after seeing that interview. She offers to get out the
sledge hammer (told you she wasn't a woman!) and tells him she'd
like to get to know him better - she'd *love* for him to correct her if
she's wrong about Marlena.
Roman's got a call from the station - he's got to go to the station.
Marlena says she'll wait up for him and he says not to - he doesn't
know how late he'll be. Marlena asks him about the gambling ring
and Roman says that hasn't gotten any futher. Mar says she'll try to
get Carrie to talk to her. Before he leaves, she tells him she's going to
take a walk and go back home.
(Little Jenn note that needs to be thrown in here - Phillip has talked
to the brass. The didn't like her ultimatum and weren't thrilled with
the interview - they told him to fire her.)
Marlena finds herself on the pier. She flashes back to that day in
1991 when she came back to who was then Roman (love that scene!).
As she turns around, she sees him standing on the steps - just where
she stood all those months ago. He approaches her and tells her it's
been a long time since they've been here together. She says it has.
He says this is where, after all those years of thinking she was dead,
he saw her for the first time. Their gazes say so much - lines aren't
even necessary. Memories are both flooding back for both of them
and the tension builds....into spinning sticks...Friday 15th January 1993
