January 1989 Updates
January 3, 1989
Kim and Shane get Eve's letter in the mail, and
learn she's run away. When Eric gets sick, and Roman has no
babysitter, Diana offers to work from the house. Shane calls
Roman about Eve. Jo finds Jack on the pier and tells him how she
and Angelica were worried about him, since nobody has seen him.
Diana learns her paper is in deep financial trouble, as Vern
tells her the story on Jack would save them. Kim talks to Jake
about Eve, and he has no clue where she is. Nick goes to his
apartment and sees Eve there, as Shane comes and finds her there.
Nick listens to them talking, but Eve won't tell Shane what is
bothering her. Diana meets with a perspective investor for the
paper. Jake fills in the others about their problems with Nick's
death. Shane brings Eve home as he and Kim try to figure out what
is bothering her. Nick searches his place, looking for something
very important to him, but everything is gone. Diana unknowingly
sells 51% of the paper to Jack.
January 5, 1989
Roman tries to get around the bet with Diana. Shane and
Eve talk again to the insurance investigator about Nick's
accident, as he tells her the story she told him doesn't check
out. Mike and April continue to grow closer. After the man
leaves, Shane asks Eve for the real story, since this could lead
to someone going to jail. Roman wants to end the bet by getting
married, but Diana wants a big wedding. Mickey talks to Eve about
Nick's death, as she dodges telling him the truth. Roman learns
he can't get a marriage license, since Marlena was never declared
dead. After drinking one to many beers, April crashes Mike's van
into his garage wall. Eve fills in Jake about what is going on,
as he tells her to stick to their story, or he'll hang her out to
dry, as Shane sees them talking and wants answers. Mike finds
April and tells her she has been drinking. Shane tells Eve he's
going to find out exactly what happened to Nick that night.
January 6, 1989
As Adrienne lays asleep next to Justin, he tries to
figure out a way to send her away. When he goes to get out of bed
and reaches for his wheelchair, he falls. Shane tells Kim he's
going to Nick's accident site, as Eve says he can't. Kayla talks
to Steve about O'Ryan coming to get Benji. Shane tells Eve they
have to learn the truth, and he heads out. Kim asks Eve to be on
the panel of her next call in show about adoptions. Jen gets a
letter from Frankie, letting her go. Adrienne tells Jo Justin
wants her to leave, so she is.
January 9, 1989
Diana goes over the wedding plans with Roman, as he says
things have changed a bit. Kim and Shane go with Eve to talk to
Mickey, as Jake arrives with his big shot lawyer father, and he
and Shane argue. Roman finally tells Diana they should have the
death certificate by the end of the day. April and Mike talk
about her accident, as she insists she has no drinking problem.
Mickey talks to Eve and the other kids about Nick's accident.
Diana meets her new partner, Jack. Shane questions Eve, and she
says it was Jake's idea, and tells the truth, as Jake and the
others put their own spin on it. Mickey tells them a crime was
committed, and one of them may go to jail. Shane levels with Eve
about what could happen, as he and Kim try to reassure her
everything will work out in the end.
January 13, 1989
April hides her drinking from Mike. Kim tries to get
romantic with Shane, but he is distracted by the photos of Nick's
accident site. Roman calls Diana from Florida, but doesn't tell
her about the latest complication in acquiring a death
certificate for Marlena. Jen and Eve talk about the investigation
into Nick's death, as Jake watches them. Roman is told he needs
to prove Marlena was in that plane when it crashed. Kim talks to
Shane about a new case he really wants to take but turns down
because of his family responsibilities, as Eve comes in and tells
him to take the case. Diana shows Roman the wedding date,
February 9th, as Roman tells her that is his and Marlena's
anniversary. Emilio watches Jen working out at the community
center.
January 16, 1989
Kim and Shane spend the day together in New York before
he leaves for his assignment. Diana and Roman celebrate the end
of their bet. Steve has a hard time getting a job, as Kayla walks
in on his phone call. Steve decides to change his image with a
new wardrobe. Kim and Shane share a romantic bubblebath, that
turns into a water fight. After Steve helps a customer at the
clothing store, he is offered a job. Jack and Diana argue about
an article for the newspaper. Since Carrie is sick and can't go
to the dance, Julio brings the dance to her. Shane surprises Kim
with a romantic candlelit dinner with their own personal
violinist... He later carries her to the bed to continue in
private. Steve goes home looking like one of the Blue's Brothers,
with his new wardrobe, as he tells Kayla the news. Roman asks
Diana to have a practice wedding until they can have a legal
ceremony.
January 18, 1989
Kayla learns Jack stopped the newspaper article about
the high school and the kids are coming down with a rash. Steve
gets a letter from Nick telling him he's fine. Roman sets the
surprise wedding in motion. Kim tries to break the newspaper
article to Eve about her involvement in Nick's death. Steve
starts his first day at work and it doesn't go well. Eve sees
Jake and tells him off, as Kim watches. Kim and Eve talk about
dealing with their pasts. Diana is caught by Jack and some ad
executives with her hair in rollers and a mud pack on her face,
but she cleverly covers by saying it's part of a beauty scheme
she's trying to uncover for her readers, and is able to save face.
Score: Diana 1, Jack 0. Diana goes home and Roman tells her about
the wedding.
January 24, 1989
Kim and Eve discuss the hearing, as Eve is surprised to
learn it's scheduled so soon. Nick drives to a place he calls
home. Roman gets a registered letter from Florida, as Diana comes
downstairs, but he's unable to tell her the contents with all the
interruptions. When a patient is choking, and Mike is unable to
help with his one hand in a cast, he shows April how to save the
man.. Kim tries to console Eve, as she feels she's been nothing
but trouble since she came to town. Kim gets an assistant at the
radio station. Eve is confronted by Jake and his father with an
offer. Nick hears about Eve's hearing. Roman and Diana go to the
lighthouse. Kim meets her new assistant, Adam. Roman shows Diana
the letter, verifying Marlena was on the plane when it crashed.
Nick looks for a way to help Eve, and calls Kim at the radio
station, but when Eve picks up the phone, he doesn't say a word.
January 25, 1989
Kayla checks on the reoccurring rash Carrie has. Steve
hears Nick's brief message on the machine. Eve hands the phone to
Kim, when Shane comes in the door, back from his assignment, as
Nick listens, then hangs up. Nick then calls Steve back and asks
him to meet with him. Eve tells Kim and Shane of her plan to
plead guilty and get a suspended sentence, as they try to
convince her to just tell the truth. Nick talks to Steve about
Eve's situation, and Steve tells him to resurface. Shane figures
out Eve spoke to Jake's father, and has a meeting with him and
tells him off for talking to Eve all alone. Neil tells Angelica
he doesn't feel their marriage is on paper only anymore. Adam
saves the day for Kim, when a guest backs out at the last minute.
Steve realizes Nick is in love with Eve. Shane and Kim tell Eve
to stick to the truth, as she wonders what a jury will think.
January 27, 1989
Steve has a customer at his new job, Jack! Eve dreams
that Nick came to see her, and told her he's alive, as she wakes
up and finds Shane is there with her. Kayla and Alice tell Roman
and Diana the rash Carrie had from school is because the water
was contaminated, as Diana goes to work on a story for the paper
on it. Kim and Shane go to court with Eve. Steve throws Jack out
of the store after taking all he can from him, then quits before
he can be fired. Steve tells Marcus what happened and how he's
going to pay back Jack. Diana pulls a fast one on Jack. Jake puts
his spin on the events with Nick. Eve goes on the stand and tells
the truth. Mickey tells everyone the grand jury has reached a
decision.
January 30, 1989
Steve practices how he is going to tell Kayla about
losing his job. Kayla and Alice go snooping on the dump site and
get arrested. Mickey reads the grand jury's decision: all the
kids are being charged with 1st degree murder in Nick's death.
Nick, who is weaker, hears the news and tries to find a way to
help Eve. Nick calls Steve for help. Kayla and Alice make a
statement to the press about the landsite before they are locked
in jail. Kim and Shane bring Eve home, as Kim learns there may
not be a radio show, in light of what has happened with Eve.
Steve gives Nick 48 hours to come forward, or he'll tell everyone
he's alive. Kim talks to Eve about her situation with Emma, in an
effort to show Eve she's not alone. Shane receives Nick's letter
telling him maybe Nick's death wasn't an accident or murder, as
Shane tries to figure out who sent it.
