April 28-May 9, 1986 Update
Hiding out from Steve and Kiriakis, John finally reaches Marlena for help. She quickly suggests meeting at his apartment, but hangs up before he can warn her not to go there. Black rushes out to head her off, but Honeycutt gets to her first and ties her up. John cleverly creates a diversion and frees Marlena, though Honeycutt manages to escape. After driving all day without any destination (they just want to get as far away from Salem as possible), Marlena and John stop at a motel. "Kiriakis knows my real identity ... that's why he wants me dead," John confesses. He tells her about the plastic surgeon whom he believes is dead. Marlena takes the time to find out for sure. After several calls, she's talking to the master surgeon himself.
Though he does not remember John's original name, he does have a photograph of him before the surgery, the man claims. John and Marlena are elated and make immediate plans to meet the doctor at his cabin in West Virginia.
In critical condition from a bullet wound near the heart, Britta floats in and out of consciousness, unable to stay awake long enough to tell Bo or Shane why Kiriakis wants her dead. Steve's only concern is Britta's life. He mistakenly blames Bo for her actions.
"If you weren't so trigger-happy to get Kiriakis ... this wouldn't have happened," Steve yells at Bo. "If she dies," Steve later vows to Las, "Bo will pay. I guarantee it." But when talking to Hope, his anger turns to sorrow. "Strange how something like this has to happen to make you realize how much you really love someone," Steve, who is in tears, comments.
Meanwhile, when Peach casually mentions that she is Kim's tabor coach, Shane is stung, though he understands why Kim couldn't talk to him. He leaves her a note asking if he can be her coach but Emma intercepts it and rips it up. When Shane doesn't hear from Kim, he assumes that Kim rejected his offer.
Kiriakis is waiting at Britta's bedside when she regains consciousness. "I advise you to keep your mouth shut," he scowls, "this little taste of death ought to help."
"Only if you promise not to harm Steven," Britta pleads. Kiriakis agrees. To Bo and Shane's dismay, Britta holds up her end of the bargain and says nothing about Kiriakis 5 incriminating statements.
Meanwhile, John and Marlena arrive at the cabin to meet the plastic surgeon. He's not there but they soon get a call from him, claiming to have car trouble. "Relax and have a beer," he says before reporting straight to Ingrid and the KGB! The waiting makes John so nervous that Marlena suggests he take a shower to calm down. John does, but when the phone rings and John rushes from the bathroom clad only in a towel, Marlena is stunned to see a tattoo on his back of the Phoenix! Terrified, she tries to slip out unnoticed, but John senses her fear. Covering, Marlena convinces him to go out for food. While he's away, she calls Bo. "John is Stefano; you've got to help me!" she cries. Bo grabs Shane and the two head for West Virginia. "We're partners or did you forget," Hope says from the back seat.
It was too dangerous for Hope to go along, Bo says, explaining why he planned to leave her behind. But it's too late to turn back, since every second counts. And nobody is more aware of that than Marlena. When John returns, she becomes so frightened that she at-tacks him with a knife! He stops her and demands an explanation. She con fesses her suspicions. But he refuses to believe he's Stefano until he sees the picture. Marlena's not waiting around though, and she sneaks away with his car keys. Realizing what she's up to, John jumps in as she hits the gas. In his effort to stop her, the car swerves off the road and slams into a tree and M~ is knocked out cold. With kindness in his eyes, John gently tends to her wounds. But when she awakens, she tries again to escape. This time, John pins her down. "I've had enough of these stupid stunts," he says angrily.
Just missing them, Bo, Hope and Shane arrive at an empty but very messy cabin. Outside, Bo finds fresh tire tracks, which they trace to the crash site. John spots the group coming and retreats deep into the forest. Broken branches and Marlena's dripping blood provide just enough of a trail for Bo and company to follow, but it soon becomes too dark to go on. They return to their car while John and M~ sleep in the woods. Feeling sympathetic, John removes the gag, but she betrays him and cries out. "Probably a wild animal," Shane figures from afar. John replaces the gag. After she's fallen asleep, though, he removes it, hating himself for what he's putting her through.
Later that night, when John is asleep, Marlena nearly kills him by bashing his head with a rock. Bleeding badly, he ties her to a tree, then leaves her there as he follows the sound of a car he hopes is the surgeon's. Bo, Hope and Shane follow the noise as well, but John lures them right into the hands of a "good old boy," named Tiny, who's operating a moonshine still. A dim-witted deputy shows up and carts the three "city-slickers" off to the county jail.
Meanwhile, out of the woods, Marlena is found by Ingrid and a KGB agent, who, expecting John to play hero, bring her back to the cabin. "I'm not on his side.. . Why would I be tied to a tree?" Marlena argues. They wait anyway. But John outsmtarts them again by dropping a piece of rubber down the chimney. Soon the cabin is filled with thick, black, pungent smoke. Ingrid and the agent flee the cottage while John crawls under the smoke and rescues Marlena. They take off through the woods. Just out of jail, Bo, Hope and Shane spot them and give chase down a river. Having stolen a raft, John and Marlena are already heading down-stream and into some white water. Bo steals a raft, but they don't get far before it capsizes!
When Peach fails to show up at the childbirth class, Kimberly learns that Shane plans to be there instead Elated, Miss Brady waits for Donovan, unaware that he's out searching for Marlena. She stays until the and of the day, still hopeful even as she walks out the door. But of course, no Shane. Terribly lonely, Kim 'visits her family and accidentally overhears her mother talking to Kiriakis. 'You betrayed me ...sleeping with my daughter," Caroline says. Afterward, Kim finally explains exactly what happened 'with victor. Caroline understands, and mother and daughter are reunited at last.
Meanwhile, Pete is hit with a lawsuit which claims he is responsible for Ted's death. Maggie reassures him that he is not to blame though Mickey admits it won't be an easy case -mainly because of Jared's prowess with the jury. Maggie makes an emotional plea to Liz to give up the case but Liz refuses. Pete has a responsibility to see that his patrons don't drive drunk. "If I don't do something, 'someone else could die," Liz argues. Jared admires her spirit Maggie returns home hurting for Pete but bearing good news for Melissa: An anonymous benefactor is funding a dance troupe in Salem. Melissa is thrilled at the prospect of auditioning (especially when someone as great as Las is the choreographer). Pete has to cover his anxiety about her wanting to get involved since he knows Kiriakis is the "benefactor." Later, at Jump!, Melissa watches in awe as Lars dances. But when he breaks down at the thought of losing Britta, she forgets about Lars the dancer and comforts him
The guilt of Tod's death and Kiriakis's pressure drive Pete to extreme measures He blasts the music at Jump!, leaves open bottles of booze strewn about, and finally, slugs 'Abe, starting a brawl. But he gets exactly what he wanted - his liquor license is revoked. But Alex informs him it's not that easy to get away from Kiriakis. The Greek has more work for Pete. Melissa is furious with her husband until Jennifer explains Pete's motive.
The next day, Melissa auditions for a place in the dance troupe but Las is so tyrannical she becomes nervous and gives a poor performance. To keep Melissa away from Jump! so that he can more easily control Pete, Kiriakis has Alex order Las to accept Melissa. Melissa is thrilled but Pete realizes that once again he's been had by Victor.
Having vowed to keep their relation-ship "strictly professional," Mike and Robin nevertheless have trouble dealing with each other when Anna wants them to work on a gala to inaugurate the new youth wing. Later, while Mike is doing rounds, a miner's daughter comes in, accusing Mike of destroying their home life by getting the mine shut down. Robin jumps to Mike's defense, but Mike happens to agree with the woman. Something has to be done. "We'll blackmail him," Mike proposes. When the doctors confront Kiriakis, though, he is more than willing to corn-ply with their wishes.
Robin's Jealous
In front of the two doctors, Victor orders Alex to give all the miners jobs elsewhere. While Robin and Mike feel it was somehow too easy, they still celebrate at Shegianigans. They have a great time until Robert and Doug make a comment about them being together! Robin goes cool. Stung by her reaction, Mike passes his pain onto Robin by asking the miner's daughter to the gala.
Savannah refuses Kiriakis's offer to stay with Kim while she regains her strength. Neil appeals to Chris to help
her out but he just can't do it, Kositchek says. Feeling guilty, Chris talks to Liz and to his surprise Liz, who feels bad because Ted caused the accident, agrees to house Savannah. Savannah can't bring herself to admit that she is the main person responsible for Ted's drunkenness and at first refuses Liz's offer. But after talking to Chris, she accepts, hoping that it will please him.
The day Britta is to be released from the hospital, Steve finds an apartment for the two of them. While he's away, Kiriakis warns Britta to leave Salem as soon as she's well if she cares at all for Steve's life. Later, when an excited Steve tosses Britta the key, she's heart-broken, unable to tell him that just when they have the chance to be happy she must leave or he will be killed. When they get to their new apartment, Britta's sullenness causes Steve to suspect that something's wrong. She manages to quiet him by making love. But late that night, Britta takes her suitcase and leaves Steve forever.
Drifting in the swift current, Bo and Shane manage to get to shore but there is no sign of Hope. They travel the river's rocky edge until nightfall. Still, no Hope. Meanwhile, clinging to a rock as the water rages around them, John makes a desperate attempt to drag a badly injured Marlena to shore. They make it safely. Marlena is unconscious and John has to revive her using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He then carries her to a secluded area.
A quarter mile upstream, Bo and Shane finally spot Hope dinging to an overhanging branch. Bo carries her to the shore but she's too weak from hypothermia to go on. Though anxious to get back on John and Marlena's trail, Bo agrees to allow his wife time to recover. In the meantime, Shane calls Peach for assistance on his watch radio. But before Peach can relay the information to anyone, she suffers a stroke. Bo
and Shane wait, assuming the ISA will move in within hours. The rein forcements never come. Bo is furious because time is being wasted, and he storms off in pursuit of the man who killed his brother. Hope pleads with him not to go. "What happens to me if you're killed by Stefano?" she cries. Bo backs down and agrees to wait .
Delirious, Marlena reaches out to John Black, thinking he's Roman and asks him to save her from Stefano. But once awake again she tries to get away. She's hardly strong enough to move, though and John catches her. When after another day of wasted waiting the ISA still doesn't show, Shane, Bo and a partially recovered Hope resume their search. Back in Salem, Peach revives enough to tell Kimberly about Shane's message. But when Kim phones the ISA, Kiriakis intercepts the call. Later, she gets on what she thinks is an ISA helicopter but is horrified to find Victor Kiriakis. They fly to the river but the gusty winds in the canyon cause the pilot to lose control. The craft crashes in a ball of fire!
