January 13, 1987 SOD Update

 

Kayla has second thoughts about leaving Patch on the pier and goes back to find him. She discovers a poll of blood where he had been standing. Hurrying after him, she discovers Johnson at the bottom of the steps, almost unconscious. Kayla takes him inside to dress his wounds and they argue about the company Patch keeps. It was her fault he got stabbed in the first place, Patch blurts out. Stunned, Kayla realizes it was the emeralds that got him into trouble. Go, Patch orders, Kayla leaves but later returns with the jewels. She couldn't stay away, Kayla admits. Seeing her desperation, Patch takes her in his arms and kisses her passionately! Kayla wants to spend the night, but Patch nixes the idea.

When Kayla returns the next morning, Patch acts cooly because her arrival coincides with a scheduled meeting he has with Werner. Kayla goes, but sensing something is up, she hides. Ms. Brady sees Werner show up and watches as Patch gives him the emeralds. Patch tells him he had changed his mind and wasn't going to make the delivery, but Kayla accidentally took the jacket that he had left behind. After Werner goes, Kayla confronts Patch. Why did he change his mind?, she asks. Johnson refuses to admit what he did was noble.

Barbara Schemes With Emma

Barbara has been pressing him to leave Salem, and he cannot deal with her, Paul tells Kim, who offers to speak with Barbara. When Barbara sees Kim coming, she carries the baby upstairs. She greets Kimberly, but pretends she must tend to Teddy as he has been quite cranky. Kim tries to talk to Barbara, but Mrs. Stewart rejects Kim's help and sends her away. She thinks Kimberly is jealous of their happiness and of their baby, Barbara tells Paul. That's not true, Paul maintains. Kim has been getting closer to finding Andrew, he points out. Paul also informs Barbara that Kim believes Emma stole her baby.

Later, Barbara visits Emma, who is delighted to keep Teddy's true identity a secret if Barbara will too. Emma suggests she take the baby out of town as soon as possible. Barbara returns home, packs some things and catches a cab with Teddy, much to Paul and Kim's surprise.

Orpheus On The Loose!

When Roman recieves a taunting not from Orpheus, Brady realizes he's in Salem! He starts to tell Marlena, but Abe suggests that they apprise Marlena's guards without telling her. At Blondies, Roman sees Orpheus and gives chase, but Orpheus gets away.

Roman decides to take Marlena and the children on a holiday. Why the rush?, Marlena wonders. Roman is forced to tell her about Orpheus and his fears for her. Maybe his idea is not so bad after all, Marlena concludes.

Meanwhile, Orpheus plants a bomb in Roman and Marlena's house. As the Brady's prepare to leave town, Shane calls Marlena and asks if she will make a statement exposing Vaughn. Marlena agrees, and invites a television reporter to Shane's where she makes her statement. When it airs on the news, Vaughn resigns. Returning home and ready to go, Roman waits in the car as Marlena gathers a few last minute things. But just as Mrs. Brady turns the last light off in the house, the bomb goes off. Horrified, Roman watches his house explode with Marlena in it!

Chris Learns Pete's Faking

Pete's therapist figures out he is faking his paralysis. After Chris overhears, he plays a trick on Pete and finds out it's true. Kositchek warns his friend that such a ploy will only drive Melissa further away. Later, Pete listens in on Melissa and Lars' phone conversation. Jannings follows his wife to the park, where he sees her kiss Lars. Melissa agrees to go back to Englund's room, but changes her mind when she spots Pete. Returning home, Pete is shocked to find Melissa sitting in his wheelchair. Husband and wife have a showdown, both realizing that their marriage is over.

Emma Goes Free!

Kimberly and Shane convince Mickey to try and have the charges against Emma dropped. By securing her freedom, Kim and Shane are sure Emma will lead them to Andrew. But, they soon learn that Emma has been declared sane and a hearing will be held. At the hearing, Emma is shocked to hear Shane testify that he forced her to confess to the kidnapping, and now he doesn't consider her statement valid. Kim, on the other hand, pretends she can't remember anything about Emma confessing to her son's abduction. When Emma asks Shane why he did it, Donovan attempts to convince her that he believes in her innocence. However, Kimberly tells Paul that, one way or another, she'll see to it that Emma pays for what she did!

Screaming for his wife, Roman tries to get into the house, but the flames are too intense. Abe shows up with the fire department and the blaze is put out. Marlena's remains are found, proving that she's dead. Unable to accept it, Roman runs off into the night. After remembering all the special moments he shared with his wife, Roman goes to Carrie and tells her that Marlena is gone.

Bo and Hope return to Salem and learn of Marlena's fate from Chris. Stunned, they hurry to the Brady house. When Hope comforts Roman, Bo feels like an outsider and leaves. Hope finds her husband and tells him that he and Roman are still brothers. She knows that Bo cares. Later, Bo goes to Roman and comforts him. The brothers embrace, and Bo tells Roman he loved Marlena too.

Patch Admits His Feelings

Patch and Kayla share a passionate moment alone at the loft. They are close to making love when Tom phones to tell them about the explosion. Kayla rushes to the fishmarket to be with Roman. Later, Patch walks Kayla home. He comforts as well as protects her, ever mindful that Orpheus may be planning yet more revenge.

Later, Caroline comes to talk to Kayla and finds Patch there, clad in a towel. Mother and daughter clash. Kayla states that nothing happened, though she wishes it had. Patch overhears Kayla stick up for him. After Caroline leaves, Kayla reiterates that she wants him. But they fight about what each of them wants from a relationship. Patch claims he's a "love 'em and leave 'em" kind of guy. Kayla cries, and tells him she's the best thing that ever happened to him. Finally, Patch admits that he does care for her and is willing to try to make their relationship work.

Marlena Alive?

Roman and the family hold a touching memorial service for Marlena. Roman struggles to overcome his grief with help from the Bradys and Hortons, but it is a difficult time. Somehow, he is determined to get revenge on the man who took his wife away from him. But Marlena may not be goen after all. She is sitting peacefully in a garden, alone. Is it a dream, or is Marlena still alive?
