October 14-25, 1985 Update

Quick, duck in here," says a fast thinking Theo to Alice, Shane and Bo. Thanks to Theo all are saved from Richard Cates, who has just found out that his prize prisoner has been sprung. When the coast is clear, the four start of the prison again, only to have Bo balk at leaving "I can't go without Michelle," he insists,"she risked her life for me." After hunting Michelle down, intent on punishing her, Richard bursts into the room, where he is met with one of Tom Horton's hypodermic needles, provided by Alice and expertly wielded by Shane.

Awakening the next morning to the smell of Alice's doughnuts, Bo, Theo, and Abe decide the next step is to have Richard arrested. Once this is done, Hope will know it is safe to come out of hiding. As Abe arrives to arrest Richard, he hears Richard say that they have found Hope. Hoping Richard will lead them to Mrs. Brady, Abe and Theo go to the location which Carver overheard Cates mention, but it is a trap. Theo gets caught on the wrong end of a shotgun and dies in his older brother's arms. Devastated by his brother's death, a furious Abe swears revenge on Richard Cates.

Determined to get their man, Abe and Peach set up shop in an ISA van outside Alice's house, watching Richard watch the Horton's. "Paydirt," Abe exclaims when he hears Richard and Graham discuss the location of the stashed heroin - Cates's summer house. "You have to try again, Brother Francis," says Hope as she awakens from yet another nightmare about Bo. Francis and Hope devise a plan in which a note is put into a loaf of bread Francis delivers this special loaf to the Brady fish market, with special instructions to Shawn and Caroline about the handling of the bread. All goes smoothly, but after Francis makes the delivery, Caroline gives half of the loaf to Alice. At home, Alice finds half the note. "I am being held at..." the note says. Much to Alice's dismay, she realizes that Caroline has the balance of Hope's message. Alice quickly phones the Brady's and finds out what the rest of the note says. As Alice prepares to tell Bo the good news, Joe one of the crooked cops who was at the fish market when Francis made the delivery, recognizes Francis's red truck. When Joe relays this information to Cates, Richard realizes that it was the same truck that picked Hope up from the scene of the accident. In a flash, Richard takes off for the monastery.

"Tony, I want to go with you." "Sorry, Anna, it might be too dangerous." And with that, Tony DiMera leaves to meet the mysterious Felicity York. On the shrouded pier, the mystery woman (whom Tony is unable to see clearly) tells DiMera, "If you want to know who killed Claus, just ask 'Alex Marshall." As Tony talks with Felicity, Alex views the video of him shooting Claus. When Tony catches up to Alex at the Salem Inn, Marshall is in no mood to chat, further arousing Tony's suspicions. However, unknown to Tony or Alex, Tracy is also receiving an invitation to a private screening. The main feature? A video of her killing her husband!

"You're used to a lot of nice things, Melissa, and I don't know if I can provide them for you," laments Pete during a quiet moment away from Tod and Amy. "if I can have you and a time to dance, I'll be the happiest girl in the world," comforts Melissa. When Tod and Amy return from paying the restaurant bill, the foursome leave Buffalo behind for bigger adventures in Boston. Once they arrive in Beantown and retrieve the pictures, they set out to unearth the meaning behind the photos.

While enjoying a picnic to relax before tackling the clues, Tod and Amy wonder off to a nearby wharf and find an abandoned houseboat. It will be a perfect base for them in Boston, the pair decides. A little cramped, but they can't complain about the rent. None of them are aware that Patch is lurking in the shadows of the grocery store as Tod and Amy buy supplies for their stay. Patch makes a quick phone call to Savannah, who orders him to get the clues and kill Melissa, Pete, Tod and Amy.

Back at Salem's waterfront, Jennifer is learning that her name can get her in to trouble, even among the punks with whom she's been hanging around. After telling one of the guys that he could find some quick cash in her brother Mike's van, the punk gets stabbed in a fight over the money he brings back. Jennifer, terrified about what could happen to the kid, goes to the only person she knows can help her in this situation--her brother Mike. Mike patches up her friend, and later has another heart-to-heart talk with his little sister. She agrees to go to his home and wait for him to show up, but when he does, he's greeted by a wild party. After kicking out all of his uninvited guests, Mike decides that Jennifer isn't ready for that much responsibility and locks her in a bedroom.

Cleaning up alone after closing the fish market for the evening, Caroline is startled by a surprise visitor. " I have always loved you," Victor whispers to her. "I can give you much more than Shawn ever will..leave him, for me." Caroline is swept away by his tender charm. "Please don't so this to me," she begs, as she slips into his arms for a nostalgic kiss. Shawn walks in and catching their embrace,, loses his Irish temper. Proud and strong, Brady belts Kiriakis than makes Caroline choose between them. Caroline realizes there is no choice--she loves he husband.. Wiping the blood from his lip as he leaves, Kiriakis murmurs deviously, "If I can't have the mother, I'll have the daughter."

Conducting his own private investigation, Tony discovers that there are tapes not only of Alex killing Claus, but of Tracy and Robert as well. Realizing that they are being blackmailed, DiMera calls Anna, asking her to meet him at the docks. He plans to tell her the news. When Anna arrives she hears her husband call to her in the fog, then...nothing. He just disappears.

Alice finally reaches Bo with Hope's note. He races to the monastery but Richard has beaten him there and is already inside, having decked a priest and stolen his robes. Meanwhile, hidden in a private room, Francis's affection for Hope finally blossoms as the young monk kisses her gently. The kiss throws Francis into great turmoil. Touched by his kindness and innocence, Hope tries to ease his conscience. "I'll be leaving tomorrow, " she says, saddened at having to say good-bye to such a lovely man, "so you'll never have to worry about kissing another girl again." After returning her gun, Francis heads for a confessional. "I've just kissed girl, " he whispers, unaware that it is Cates behind the window, posing as a monk. Richard follows Francis to his room just as Bo is coming over the monastery wall. Drawing his weapon, Richard bursts into Brother Francis's chambers. Falling across Hope's body, Francis takes the bullet meant for her. Bo arrives and chased Richard, but loses him. On the way to the hospital with a badly wounded Francis, Brady fills Hope in on what has happened. "Theo's dead," he says, the tears starting again over the loss of his best friend.

Cates's Date With Fate

With everything falling apart, Cates heads for his summer house where Abe and Shane are waiting for him. Although he knows he has met his match, Cates refuses to surrender. "Drop your gun," Abe warns his boss, a man he had once trusted as a friend. But Richard, unable to live with the shame, forces Abe to shoot him. At that moment, Marlena discovers the car and the drugs in the boathouse and realizes what kind of man Richard really is. Furious, she rushes back to the house and finds him dying. "Kevin is so fond of you," he whispers. "Take good care of him; don't let him ever be like his father," he utters before dying in Marlena's arms. Moments later, Kevin arrives unexpectedly only to find his adored father dead. Crushed, Kevin takes his anger out on Abe. "You murdered him; he was a good man," he screams. With great difficulty, Marlena tells the boy the truth--a truth that he doesn't want to hear. When Marlena offers Kevin her love, he takes refuge in it.

Together again, Bo and Hope visit Shawn, Caroline and Kimberly, who are all overjoyed. But before long, Hope wants to go back to the hospital to check on Francis. Bo shows more than a twinge of jealousy. "I thought of no one but you the entire time," Hope promises. "But he did save my life," she adds. Alone at home, the pair catches up on all the nights, afternoons and mornings spent away from each other!

Giving Tod and Amy some time together, Pete and Melissa go looking for the clue and wind up at a fruit cart in Fanueil Hall. When Tod leaves Amy alone for a second, Patch attacks her, searching for the pictures. He gets them but a returning Tod fights him. Patch retreats, leaving behind the crucial clues that will undermine Kiriakis's operation. Using the pictures, Patch figures out Pete and Melissa's whereabouts. As Patch arrives at the marketplace, Pete and Melissa see him coming and outwit him, making off with the next plaque. Patch winds up in jail.

The next morning, Melissa wakes up feeling sick. They think she's got the flu, but her condition worsens. Noticing the swelling on her back they realize she's been bitten by and insect. While Pete and Tod search for a phone to call Earl for a remedy, a feverish Melissa urges Amy to get Bo and Hope to help. Amy leaves for Salem but Tod, unwilling to let her go alone, joins Amy, while Pete keeps vigil over his love. "Someday," he tells a delirious Melissa, "We'll have our own little home but no matter how small it is we'll have a boathouse just like the one we used to meet at on the lake." As she falls asleep, Pete wipes the tears from his eyes. "I love you so much," he whispers.

Upon hearing that Cates was discovered and killed, Savannah loses her cool. "Don't you slip again," Victor warns her, out of a suspicious Chris's earshot. Trying to appease her boss, she tells Kiriakis that Patch is onto the kids in Boston and already has the pictures. When Victor leaves, Savannah seeks comfort in Chris's arms, but he doesn't hold her as tightly as usual. Something is going on and Kositchek vows to himself to find out what it is. Meanwhile, Abe begins to uncover all the corruption in the Salem P.D. He arrests two officers and from here it doesn't take long to trace the connection to Savannah Wilder. "I'm going to nail that woman," Abe swears, banging his desk.

At a party thrown by the Curtises, Shane asks Bo and Hope to announce that they are going to Miami on an investigation. He wants to see Savannah's reaction. It is indeed a big one. Even Kiriakis betrays a hint of surprise. But when Amy shows up leading them to Tod, Bo and Hope's off hand remark becomes a reality.

In another corner of the room, Emma slips sleeping pills into Kimberly's drink to prevent her from meeting Shane later. But Kimberly sees Emma's action and switches her drink with Emma's, unaware that Kiriakis is watching her. "Can she see after all?" he wonders.
