Julie cannot help but feel guilty, since she was with Lee when the woman had her stroke. Doug assures her that Lee caused her own illness by refusing to take her medication.
After failing to see Liz, Neil meets Julie at Doug's club, by chance. She whisks him away from the bar and they dine together (Doug is with Lee). After they discuss their problems, Neil asks Julie to come to his apartment. He promises not to get fresh, but Julie refuses. After leaving Neil at the club, Julie re-enters and finds him at the blackjack table. When he spots Julie, the reformed gambler backs away from the game.
Kindred Spirits
On the campaign trail together, Liz and Don share an intimate dinner in his hotel room and drink until they are drunk. Liz asks Don if he is having problems with Marlena and he admits he is. In turn, Liz tells him about Neil's behavior. Don hugs Liz as she cries and insists she is a special woman. In tears, Liz says she cannot take any more rejection. "I, for one, think you're wonderful, beautiful, and sensitive," Don declares. In a matter of seconds, Don kisses her and they make love!
In Salem, Marlena confides to Chandler that she and Don are having problems. When he consoles her, she tells him he is very understanding.
The next day, Don wakes up feeling quite guilty. He explains to Liz that although she is attractive, he is sorry they made love. She tells him to forget it. She did not take it seriously. When Don says he feels he must tell Marlena about his indiscretion, Liz advises him not to. She will keep his secret.
Meanwhile, Chandler has hired a female private investigator to follow Don. She quickly informs him about Don's romantic interlude, but says she cannot identify the woman. Chandler asks the detective to return to Salem immediately.
Joshua's Aunt Emily dies and her lawyer visits him. The man informs Joshua that his aunt left him a farm and letters from his parents.
Knowing that Joshua's real name is John Talbot Jr., the lawyer tells him he requires proof of his identity. Joshua hands over his driver's license and asks the man to promise not to reveal his real name. The attorney agrees. He was a friend of Joshua's father, a great attorney, and knew his mother, Sunny!
A Shared Secret
When Mrs. Chisholm tells Joshua she is sorry about his aunt's death and realizes how close they were, Joshua says, "Yes, but I do have another relative and you know who it is."
After Todd finds a portrait of his mother, Sunny, he asks his father to hang it in the living room. When the man refuses, Todd angrily vows to hang it in his room. Jarvis warns Chandler to be wary of Mrs. Chisholm. She just might start talking to Todd about Sunny's death!
Maggie's "concern" for Kyle is causing her to neglect Mickey. She explains to her husband that the football player needs her friendship.
Now that her baby is home, Sally is finding it difficult to take care of her. She tells Jessica she did not realize how hard it would be. Sally worries that they will soon run out of money, but Jessica tries to be hopeful. When Sally fails to find a job, she returns to her apartment in a bad mood. She screams she cannot stand the baby's constant crying. It is Jessica who cradles the infant. When Jessica leaves (she had cut a class) for school, Sally finds herself almost suffocating the baby with a pillow! She then hugs her child and says she is sorry.
Joshua's half-brother
After Joshua receives his aunt's letters, he reads one from his mother. Tears fill his eyes as she refers to him as "my little boy Johnny." Joshua shows Mrs. Chisholm the letter. She reads it out loud. Sunny regretted giving up her husband and son to marry Chandler. But she had to stay with him because she was pregnant with his son, Todd. After she finishes the letter Joshua asks Mrs. Chisholm how Sunny died. She refuses to answer and tells him she is ill.
Chandler instructs his private investigator, Kim, to become friendly with Marlena at his campaign headquarters. He instructs her to tell Marlena about Don's indiscretion. Chandler does not want to be linked with the information. Later, Marlena and Kim chat. Marlena listens as Kim talks about her ex-husband's cheating. But she cannot bring herself to tell Marlena about Don.
Hours later, after Kim and Marlena have another friendly chat, Chandler calls Kim at his headquarters. Marlena, who walks back into the room, overhears Kim confirming Don's affair! Marlena is shocked! She does not know the voice on the other end of the phone is Chandler's. It is an ironic situation because Chandler instructs Kim not to tell Marlena about Don's infidelity--at least not yet.
Both Mickey and Chris visit Chandler and inform him of the breach of contract suit that are planning to file against him. When Chandler points out that it could hurt his election chances, Mickey and Chris cannot help but agree. Chandler is very agitated.
Todd is Chris' first customer. He asks him to repair his motorboat. Once again, Todd finds Cassie desirable. He cuts his college class to take her swimming. They return to her apartment and make love.
Sally's Decision
Sally calls Marie and tells her she decided to give up her baby for adoption. Later, she signs the adoption papers. When Jessica learns about Sally's plans to give up the baby and leave town, she is very upset and cries. Even though Sally explains she almost hurt the baby, Jessica feels they should keep her. Jessica blames Marie for Sally's decision. Awhile later, Jessica interrupts Todd and Cassie's lovemaking. She asks Cassie to arrange a date for her with a pre-med student that she met at her surprise party. Cassie promises to do her best and Todd shrugs unhappily.
Julie's curiosity about Joshua's past forces her to asks Mrs. Chisholm if Joshua knew Sunny Chandler. It seems when Joshua saw Sunny's portrait in her studio (Todd is having it framed), Joshua reacted like he knew her. Mrs. Chisholm becomes very upset and Julie changes the subject.
Later, Julie questions Joshua about his mother's friendship with Mrs. Chisholm. He remarks that Julie is acting like an inquiring reporter. She replies she realized she knew nothing about him. He tells her to accept him as he is. When Julie says that Carol is also interested in him, he explains he is not interested in a serious relationship with the blackjack dealer.
While Doug and Julie sit by the bar at Doug's club, they notice Neil at the gambling tables. Doug asks Joshua to keep an eye on him. If Neil attempts to gamble, Joshua should stop him.
Don comes home early and Marlena gives him a cool greeting. When he asks what is wrong, she cries and bluntly asks if he is having an affair. He denies it is an affair and explains he spent one night with a woman. Don tries to convince Marlena that he was going to tell her about it. Unable to control her tears, she screams, "How could you have done it?" She tells him not to touch her.
After assuring Marlena that the night meant nothing to him and the woman, Don says tenderly: "Please don't ruin everything, baby. We can put out marriage back together." She tells him things can never be the same between them. Part of her wants him to leave because she feels hurt and betrayed. But she admits she would also be hurt if he left. When Chandler asks Marlena is she ands Don have patched things up, she tells him she is impressed with his sensitivity.
Julie scolds Neil for attempting to gamble. She points out that as a doctor he should realize he is addicted to gambling. Neil explains that losing Liz is turning him to the tables.
When Lee asks Doug to live with her in the penthouse so he can help with her therapy, he refuses. But when Neil explains that Lee may not recover without Doug's presence, Doug reconsiders. When he tells Julie his decision, she becomes angry.
However, the next day, Julie tells him she understands. But now Doug has changed his mind. He will not live with Lee. Julie is more than pleased. Later, Lee pretends she has accepted Doug's decision. The lady fully intends to remain an invalid so Doug will continue to see her.
Chandler tells Jarvis about Chris' plans to sue. Jarvis has an idea: Why doesn't Chandler Manufacturing put out their own solar generator?! After copying Chris's plans, they will return the plans and rights to him. This way, they will have the generator and not have to pay its inventor! When Chandler says Mickey will sue, Jarvis assures him that the litigation would take months--long after Chandler is governor.
The candidate approves the idea. He tells Don he is going to forfeit all rights to the generator to Chris. After Mickey learns the news, he informs Chris and Leslie. They realize this means that although Chris has the generator, he is going to be broke.
When Chandler asks Jarvis if he has found out more about Joshua, his aide tells him he has someone investigating him.
A Spy?
At Carol's apartment, she and Joshua get ready to go swimming. As they walk out the door, she says she forgot the towels and goes back inside. Carol runs over to Joshua's pants and pulls out his wallet! A s she goes through it, Joshua re-enters and startles the woman. She pulled away from him before he can slap her. Enraged, Joshua yells: "I trusted you!"
The next day, at the club, Carol explains to Joshua that she was looking for his driver's license. She wanted to learn his birth date. He agrees not to fire her, but says things can never be the same between them.
Jarvis meets with the spy he has hired to investigate Joshua. Nervous, Carol tells him that Joshua is on to her! She says the name Joshua Fallon is on his license. Jarvis pays Carol well to get out of town. Chandler is surprised when Jarvis tells him about Carol's failed mission. He warns Jarvis that the woman might turn on them--if the price is right!
Joshua receives more of the letters his mother wrote to his aunt. In one letter, Sunny begged Emily to ask her brother John (Joshua's father) to help her! Joshua shows the letter to Mrs. Chisholm and asks her to red it. She reads that Sunny asked Chandler for a divorce and custody of Todd. But her refused, claiming the scandal would hurt his political future. Mrs. Chisholm points out that this is when Sunny went to the sanitarium--"because she lost all hope." Joshua then hands the woman Sunny's last letter to his aunt. Sunny feared Chandler was going to harm her because she threatened to tell about his affair with Liz's college friend!
Sunny then went on to say that her husband had her drugged and guarded. She started to grow very weak. She could only trust her personal maid. Todd was in a boarding school, Joshua's father was a hopeless alcoholic, and the aunt was ill. Joshua tells Mrs. Chisholm that this letter proves Chandler was responsible for Sunny's death. She refuses to say anything, because she has to protect him from Chandler!
Cassie and Jessica enter the disco, where they meet Todd and the pre-med student, Mark. Jessica and Mark find themselves getting along. When Todd comments on how pretty Jessica looks, Cassie becomes jealous. The next day, Cassie begs Jessica not to take Todd away. Jessica assures her she has no intention of stealing him.
Cutting class, Jessica goes on a picnic with Mark, Cassie and Todd. When Jessica remarks she feels guilty about cutting, Cassie accuses her of being too good. Todd comes to Jessica's defense, and this revitalizes Cassie's jealousy.
When Sister Marie learns that Jessica has cut several classes, she asks to speak to the girl. Marie warns Jessica not to neglect her studies--she could lose her scholarship if her grades are poor. Jessica declares she is starting to have fun and will no longer be "the Jessica who follows the straight-and-narrow path."
Joshua makes an appointment with Mickey. In the lawyer's office, Joshua asks Mickey to keep what he is about to say confidential. After Mickey gives his word, Joshua hands him Sunny's letters.
Mickey tells Joshua that is what the letters say is true, Chandler is responsible for Sunny's death. This would mean the end of Chandler's political career. Joshua wants to give the letters to the police. But Mickey point out that Sunny's word, since she was in a sanitarium, is not proof enough. If Joshua knows someone who can verify Sunny's charges, then they would have have sufficient evidence. Joshua reveals there is someone.
When Joshua enters his apartment, he is shocked to see it has been ransacked! Surveying the mess, Joshua says: "He's after me!" Searching for Joshua, Julie goes to his apartment. She, too, is shocked when she realizes someone broke in. Julie begs Joshua to tell her what kind of trouble he is in, but he says he cannot reveal anything yet.
Todd tells Joshua he values their friendship and feels very close to him. But he is mystified by Joshua's hatred for his father. Joshua admits he has a reason for disliking Chandler, but does not want to talk about it. Todd says if his father did something to Joshua, he will never forgive him.
Chris' mother is delighted when she meets Leslie. The two women in Chris' life approve highly of each other.
